Pig & Wheel in Mendip

Stopped en-route here for the nature reserve at Ham Wall . We both enjoyed our lunch very much as the prices were reasonable , and the amount on our plates exceeded our expectations . We had the pork & lamb roasts between us , which we found to be an excellent Sunday lunch . We hope this business thrives as it deserves to , with good and friendly staff , and have recommended it to our son who lives not far away .

Consistently a great Sunday lunch here. Food is presented well, plentiful and always hot. Excellent value for money.

Visiting in January means that you won’t see the pub at its best, and has a rather bland appearance. But don’t be fooled, this is a gem of a place. 6 of us had meals from the breakfast (at 1p.m.) to the Scampi which was perfectly cooked. We also had a burger and fish and chips, and every meal was superb. The two lads serving were happy and attentive which added to a great lunchtime. The premises seem to have been recently updated, I really like the wooden panelling. Would thoroughly recommend it. If I were owner I might consider changing the sign from Eating House to Restaurant as the former suggests a truck stop rather than the quality gastro pub that it is. 👍

We had our Christmas party at the pig and wheel last night. There were 15 of us and all of us commented on the quality of the food. The food was delicious, well presented and all home made. Nothing was too much trouble and the added touches at the end were lovely. The portions were incredible. Would highly recommend the food here and will be returning.

We had our Christmas party here , the food was absolutely perfect no left overs from any of the 15 of us that were there , no waiting at the bar to be served the waitress came to the tables to make sure we were all well looked after .. sally the waitress was worth her weight in gold .. just a great night all round .

The Pig & Wheel is a wonderful restaurant. The Sunday lunch is outstanding. My husband and I have been quite a number of times this year and we are never disappointed. Dale and Tracy are lovely hosts and their staff are very courteous.

Visited the pig and wheel for a last minute evening meal on a rainy Monday evening, I believe the gentleman behind the bar may of been called del? We were received with a really warm welcome and a lovely introduction the the menu, we felt really welcome and at home. The food was simply stunning and it was clear that it was fresh produce cooked really well. The food was honest and really enjoyable. The wine selection was impressive, I only wish I had time to sit and drink more. The sticky toffee pudding was incredible which I had with the best pistachio ice cream I’ve ever had. We can’t wait to visit again! Really cost pub, with honest food that’s great quality and value.

I discovered this little gem of a place 2 weeks into a 4 week business trip and wished I'd found it on day one. A straight talking, no nonsense owner who in all honesty, couldn't have been more welcoming. His lovely partner who ran the kitchens, was more than accommodating and produced fantastic breakfasts and main meals. The rooms were cozy ,very clean and had amazing scenic views. The bar was friendly and welcoming by both owners and regulars...I wish I lived closer...this would be my local. On a side note regarding the previous negative review made... ....I was the ONE person present at breakfast on said morning and had just left the premises when he pulled up. There were no others at breakfast that morning. The open sign was not on and the only reason the door was unlocked was so I could depart. My suggestion is you try the Pig and Wheel for yourself...I think you'll find the food, cider and company worth the visit.

I have Crohn's disease and one symptom when problematic can be urgency. I was desperately looking for somewhere when I drove past a large road -side sign saying OPEN. I drove in, and sure enough the front door was wide open and people were around. I obviously intended to purchase a drink so as not to just use their toilets, but there was no one around and the toilets said 'Out of Order'. I walked down to the restaurant part with staff getting ready to prepare breakfast for their guests (it's also a hotel). I tried to explain but got aggressive treatment from a man with grey hair and beard. Every time I said I have Crohn's, he said he has 'no friends'. And people like me have ruined their toilets, even though I explained my intention was to buy a coffee too. He was saying they're not open. He was rude and aggressive and I highly recommend avoiding these low life nasty people. There was a woman present who looked concerned as soon as I mentioned Crohn's, but she didn't have the 'guts' to say anything -over-dominated. Being a hotel, bar and restaurant, they would have had many toilets I could have used! In fact, the place is one big toilet.
