Born and bred scouser and have frequented Allerton Rd many a times since 1999! I've been to many a cafes in Allerton over the last 20+ years and they ranged from very very average to a bit pretentious. There are only 2 establishments on Allerton Rd I believe are excellent in terms of value for money, quality of ingredients, quality of service and general atmosphere- Pierre Griffes is one of them. Strangely enough I remember the cafe that was here before Pierre Griffes and it wasn't good at all (had been there a long time), and I spotted Pierre Griffes months ago. The multiple times I've seen it since, I've never felt compelled to go in for whatever reason - until today......! It was a very rainy Sunday and i noticed that there were a few tables available and thought, better now than never. I love the French theme inside - nice and subtle. Chairs are incredibly comfortable with great quality decor overall. Menu had a good range of food - and kept things simple which I like (it is the French way....). I had the Salmon and Cheese Omlette and my mum the Egg Royale. We were serviced by a very sweet, unassuming and super friendly young lady. Perfect service, as she knew how to strike the right balance between giving us space and privacy and ensuring we were OK. My omelette was seriously impressive. This isn't your average omelette that anyone can throw together, this is a French omelette which is totally different- and miles better. Well seasoned , fluffy, the right thickness and had a subtle lightly grilled texture on top - as a French omelette should be. Served with a simple salad garnish, two slices of baguette and side serving of 2nr butters (I appreciated the fact I got 1 per slice - i can't begin to tell you how much it does my head I to be given one small bit of butter for 2 slices of bread.....lol). My mum's poached eggs looked great - they actually looked like poached eggs too! (Some places poach their eggs in a tightly wrapped cling film, so only feels like you've got a yolk!). I'm proper fussy when I eat out nowadays, whether that's Allerton Rd, Lark Lane (I've lived off Lark Lane for 8 years and most places on the lane are either average, and/or overpriced), and it's so refreshing to come across the triangular gem - value for money, quality of ingredients and great service. You do get some pretentious places on Allerton Rd or the Lane where you're paying like £15 for eggs royale, which is obscene regardless if it tastes very nice or not. I want to feel relaxed in a venue and not feel like I'm hanging out with Instagram, middle class, BMW drivers 🤣 The atmosphere is great at Pierre Griffes as everyone is normal and nice haha. It's simple, delicate and relaxing. Whenever I find a gem, I do go out of my way to make a long positive review, because I really want the world to know I've found a great place that ticks all the boxes. Especially if it's an independent business, they need all the support they can get. I'll be going back again 100%.

This is not an experience of food nor service this is checking their website and menus in order to find a good French Restaurant to celebrate a special birthday and again a special marriage. The food we can see does look good but the menu itself illegible. Can't make out their full menu so not able to book as we are not able to see if there is anything we would like fir all courses. Just a point to allow people to understand what is available. Menus are displayed clearly outside every restaurant so it should be the same on the Internet to save a journey to read the one outside.

Beautiful little bistro. Called in today for a full English, food was exquisite and perfectly cooked, black pudding was the best I've ever tasted. staff very welcoming and service was prompt and efficient, atmosphere was laid back and relaxed. Menu was very reasonably priced and if the quality of my meal was anything to go by then I can't wait to try other dishes on our return visit. 10/10.

First time trying and the experience was below average. Waited about 20 minutes for someone to take our order, another 20 for 2 soft drinks to arrive and about an hour for 2x breakfasts. Food was okay, but the service was shocking- chaotic, surrounded by dirty tables that no one cleaned and some attitude from the waitress. Awful lot of waiting for some average breakfast that costs £30. Maybe was an off day but not impressed.

It looks ok. But there is no smell of food in the place. And after placing my order, I know why. The cheapest products have no scent. The yolk is almost tasteless. The cheapest coffee beans roasted to form coal. Not worth your time if you are looking for tasty food.

Maybe the owner brags about top coffee blends, but the hot chocolate was worse than Nesquick, tasteless and watery. The eggs were cooked correctly, bacon was extremely crispy and salty, but the hollandaise sauce was tasteless, I had two slices of dry baguette, disappointed overall 😒.

My boyfriend and I recently visited for breakfast, and I was excited to try their eggs Benedict. My boyfriend ordered the eggs royal. When our dishes arrived, I was disappointed to see that there was no hollandaise sauce on either of them. 😔 I get that mistakes happen, but the fact that hollandaise sauce is an essential part of eggs Benedict and eggs Royal seems like a pretty big mistake to make twice, as it's listed in the description of both dishes on the menu, and not something the customer should feel embarrassed about mentioning is missing from their dish. I politely asked the waitress for some sauce, but she seemed a bit distracted and simply nodded her head and went to ask the kitchen. A few minutes later, I checked to see if she was coming back with the sauce, but she was behind the counter on her phone. 😐 I waited half an hour to give her benefit of the doubt, and asked another waitress for the sauce, and she apologized for the delay. She quickly brought me a side of hollandaise sauce, and I was finally able to enjoy my breakfast, which was delicious. 😋 I understand that mistakes happen, but I was really disappointed by the lack of attention from the first waitress. I was especially frustrated that she was on her phone while pretty obviously ignoring my request. Overall, the food and coffee were really tasty, but the service was no bueno. It's not hard to smile and apologize for the mistake. **Rating: 3 out of 5 stars**

Visited this place last week for an impromptu dinner. The restaurant was not busy which was great as I was after a relaxed atmosphere for spending time with my friend. Upon getting seated the atmosphere was a bit strange as the two FOH staff members seemed to be very young and not entirely comfortable with the hospitality environment. We have ordered cocktails and I hoped that would be a dedicated bar staff however, that was not the case and the two staff members tried their best to figure out the recipes and work together. Naturally in took them a very long time to do this but we waited patiently. In the end of the drinks arrived as a wrong order and my drink was extremely sour and I’ve asked for it to be amended which staff happily did, however even with the changes I didn’t manage to finish it as it just was not great. I would like to emphasise that the low rating is not for the errors, but because staff were clearly put in a compromising position with not enough bar training which is just unfair and creates poor customer experience. We also got a two course dinner and the mains were okay if not a bit bland, however the deserts were lovely. I was surprised that my experience is clearly in the minority here so perhaps we just caught the restaurant on a bad day, and hopefully this is not the typical quality.

I really wanted to love this place, as my Dad was French Classically trained and has sadly passed away, as I have so many memories of all of his French dishes, which were amazing!!. However, for a random Wednesday afternoon- things were quite disorganised and at times chaotic, and two very young girls were trying to manage everything and clearly out of their depth unfortunately, and would both disappear for periods of time- leaving most customers including us, wanting better service and in fact I imagine people left sooner because service was so slow- we went to Baltic Bakehouse for dessert in the end, as we were just wasting our time constantly waiting. We ordered the French onion soup and steak baguettes and fries, which were ok, they were all served at the right temperature and the food was out pretty quick, compared to the rest of the service. However the ‘steak’ was casserole beef, and appeared to have been cooked with some of the French onion soup- as it tasted the same. I love a Beef bourguignon and I’m sure it is lovely as a sandwich, however it’s not a steak baguette or what we ordered. Plus the meat was not as soft or tender as if it had been slow cooked for a long period, so it was difficult to eat. So either they should serve actual steak as per the menu or slow cook the beef for a better result, in my opinion. I’d be interested to know what we would have been served has we ordered the steak frittes. Like others, I think it has real potential here but does need a rethink on the food and actually communicating with customers if substitutions are to be made and give them the option to change their order. Plus god bless those young girls with zero clue or confidence with what they were doing, and god forbid they had to deal with a difficult customer. The price range is fine, if you are actually served the dishes as reflected on the menu:

If you want a night of sitting in your coat and eating below average food, whilst drinking cheap wine, this the place for you. The decor is nice and the food is relatively cheap, however, if you’re sat near a window it’s absolutely freezing due to poor insulation and apparently no heating. If you’re sat near the kitchen, you can see the chef chinning pints at 8pm whilst cooking your frozen mussels in front of you. The service wasn’t bad but I found it slightly strange that the waiter was wearing gym clothes. Fair play to the waitress for having the balls to incorrectly correct the wife’s correct pronunciation when she ordered the moules. She’s braver than me. All in all, you get what you pay for but this restaurant could be so much better

We'd been waiting to try Pierre Griffes for quite while so booked a table for a special birthday. I spoke to the owner (I presume) and booked a table for 4 people, I requested 8pm but he asked if we could do 7.30 instead. On the day on the meal itself, I spoke to him again and increased the booking to 6 people. After parking up we arrived at the restaurant at 7.38. The staff were taking tables in, the lights were dimmed, and it was clear they were closed! The remaining staff were shocked to see us and asked if we had a booking. They disappeared into the kitchen, and I could hear a bit of panic going on between them, wondering what they could do and who could they ring. The owner or manager were not present and more importantly neither was the chef who had gone home! The staff member then tried to blame us by saying the chef had probably gone home because we were late (8 minutes)! Insult to injury. I don't blame the young staff who were put into unprofessional situation, although any customer service training would have told them not to try and pass the buck in this situation. We stood in the road ringing around restaurants with the impossible task of trying to find a table for 6 on a busy Friday night. The evening was upsetting, stressful and of course ruined for all of us. I thought the owner would have rang over the weekend, or even Monday, to apologise but no. Too late now.

The bistro has a fantastic location in a sought after area, the overall design of the building looks appealing and will benefit from regular walk ins. Unfortunately there are a number of issues here which if left unaddressed will cause problems for the business. I would strongly recommend that all staff receive retraining on the basics of waiting tables, the service was slow and the girls seemed out of their depth (although I don’t think this was their fault). Why not help them with putting table numbers out and clearly visible?! The toilets were a surprise and a bit of a let down, seems like The opening was rushed and potentially cash was a bit tight?. Ultimately all of these small things could’ve been forgotten if the food itself was good and consistent. Unfortunately for the price point it was mediocre and at times disappointing. Starter of camembert was fine but the overall feel was as if this food could’ve been prepared in my own kitchen and there was no flare or anything to make it original or unique. I appreciate that this is a restaurant in it’s early days, and there is of course plenty of time to tweak and adjust the menu. However, For this price point the restaurant really does need to justify; why would you why would you spend £20 for a main here? The bread with my starter was cold in the middle, and the mussels were far too salty and had slightly odd flavour potentially a tarragon that didn’t, in my opinion, work with the dish. I love French food! I wanted to love it here, but guys you need to sit down and go through the menu and try the food. It’s all basic stuff that most people can cook in their own kitchens so it needs to be special.

Just had dinner here and I know they only opened this week but staff didn’t have a clue. All teenagers with no hospitality experience. Don’t even know what the soup is then forget to come back and tell you. Offered dessert as your entree plates are taken away. Cutlery not consistent on any table, and mostly back to front and watched customers get mains and not been given cutlery. A young waitress dropped a spoon on the floor in front of customers waiting to be seated and still put it on the table for them to use. Disgusting. Also no staff wearing masks as they walk round or when placing food down right by your face. Didn’t see any sanitising happening between customers either Customers are left waiting at the door for way too long, the reservation book is by the kitchen and then seems to be more confusion about who’s sitting where Food way to expensive for what it is. Works out about £25 for 2 courses of below avg food. My main was £17 for a bowl of undercooked new potatoes, I had to leave more than half as it was horrible and tedious to eat. It had 3 slices of grey ham which was heavily salted and that’s it. No ones come and checks on you, the owner is sat at the biggest table on his phone the whole time with a laptop open which is pretty disgraceful right in front of customers. He’s not teaching his staff how to do their job and not even checking on customers or their experience when it’s been open for only 3 days. Was really looking forward to this place and some French food but not sure how they cam compete with the likes of caveau in Woolton that has a 3 course menu of better French food for less. I know they are trying to keep costs down but not having one staff member that has any hospitality experience is just silly. No one looking after certain tables so everyone going wherever

Underwhelming. Refused to give coffee cup at 4pm when drinking in cafe, had to use takeaway cup. There were cups out but presumably there was no one to wash cups up. Also pretty unhelpful when needed to access the toilet.

I had a really bad experience at this hotel as as I arrived, my room was not ready and the big guy in reception made me feel very threatened as he came across very aggressive and had a frightening look on his face. When I arrived to my room. One bed was not made The manager was very helpful, but the big guy was honestly scary to even look at. He should be sacked from this job as has know hospitality I don’t really leave Reviews or like to put a place down, but I had to put this up as the experience was that bad. I never experienced this experience in any other Premier in your as I am a truck driver and I stay in Premier Inn a lot, but this was the worst so far.

Building is beautiful, spotless, customer service was good. They dont give out multiple keys for each room which made me feel safer actually. The only HUGE let down was the spas hygeine practices or lack of. The therapist was very good, again, the building is stunning especially the spa part but considering how much you're paying and realising they don't change the towels between each client on the massage beds, no wonder they are a dark colour. So you're literally laying on and under towels that have been used on every single other clients oiled and naked body that day. Not to mention the towels are extremely thin too. I work in this industry and I know that too many high end spas don't change their towels between clients, if at all for days, all just to keep costs down and this place is exactly the same. Disgusting when you're paying nearly £100 or more for a massage. Do better please.

Lovely meal again at Greek Taverna. Food is always fresh particularly the meats served with the kebabs. Service staff are always attentive, and food arrives with a smile . Definitely no hesitation in recommending people to try the Greek Taverna , Smithdown Rd. Thanks guys
