The Pilgrim in Liverpool

Historic pub in Liverpool city centre. Hired the function room for a musical get together with friends on Saturday afternoon. Had a great afternoon. Free room hire too!

No food so I didn't rate that. Came here for a quirky experience. The decor was old but in a creepy untouched way. Felt easily like this place could be haunted and/or have a torture room in the back. Somewhere between historic and neglected. But I still somehow liked it. Nice bar.

Spent a few hours here Yesterday my granddaughter graduation at nearby Anglican Cathedral ,good service nice beer good company ,will visit again

Been drinking in this place for a number of years now certainly 10+. It's an institution. Great mix of customers. Staff aren't bad either 🤣. Great place.

One of the finest pubs in Liverpool. A rarity these days - a community pub in the city centre. For 22 years on and off I have been made to feel welcome. Love this place.

I found the Pilgrim quite by accident but I’m glad I did! The atmosphere is chilled. The bar staff are very accommodating when I wanted to know what they would recommend as a nice whiskey. The wee lass behind the bar (I think I heard the staff call her Court) I may be mistaken but her and the other staff served everyone with an excellent efficiency .As a Scot me and my friends were pleasantly impressed. The drinks as they say were flowing 😊 Will definitely be frequenting there again when I’m back in Liverpool

Not changed since school / student days. Other than the jukebox, which still has an awesome selection of tunes. Whenever am in the area I pop in for a pint of Hobgoblin IPA. Can't image this place ever not being here, but in 30 year I still can't recall being in the upstairs bar!

i absolutely love the pilgrim, it’s one of my favourite pubs. but how the hell did the bar staff even get employed?? they are so unpleasant, the woman with the glasses if i remember right is just so rude. all of my friends felt the same way even though we all went up to the bar at different times, we all had the same experience. always feels like i’m inconveniencing them by getting a drink. i’ve worked in hospitality jobs too, i know it can be annoying dealing w some of the public but can’t say i’ve ever acted as rude to a customer as the bar staff here do, especially when it’s just a normal polite customer. they do it to everybody, apart from people they know personally then it’s a different story. it’s a shame really, and i don’t feel they represent the pub at all

A shame this little pub does not entertain anymore on a visit. If the place is quiet, you walk in and the music goes off. It's totally dead. Not known a pub in Liverpool where you have to pay for an atmosphere, you just have to pay for the jukebox. 15 years visiting the Pilgrim, it's lost its soul.

The staff were very rude. They served us, gave us our drinks and 10 minutes later informed us they were closing. The attitude from the two girls that told us they were closing was extremely rude and the atmosphere in there is not friendly at all. Will not be returning

Can I just say the upholstery needs a lot of attention and so do the toilets , this is a pity as this place has had quite a history!

Grotty spot with next to no natural light or real character. Deeply unpleasant and unwelcoming bar staff. Terrible drink selection. Other than the still somewhat cheap prices, I cannot fathom why anyone would want to drink here with the amount of great boozers in walking distance.

Very quiet Sunday afternoon but got talking to the Chinese cook who gave us lots of tips on Chinese cooking made my day

Is this a joke??? I visited here today with my family. There was around 8 of us 4 young people aged 20s and 4 older 40s/50s. We had an absolute blast, right up until the staff refused to serve us, not because we were drunk, but because we were too loud. I hAve worked in hospitality and I am aware staff cannot serve drunk people. However this was not the reason for refusing service. There was absolutely no one in the establishment, and we had spent a lot in here. No one had complained about our table. It seemed the staff had a chip on their shoulder towards us. We may have been loud but if they would’ve told us we would’ve been more quiet. The place was empty! It felt like we were picked on for no reason other than having a good time. No explanation was given. It’s such a shame we felt singled out for no reason other than having a good time. We will not be returning.

Front steps are bit steep, best negotiated sober. Lively & loud.

Spent many years coming here until last night which will be my last visit due to a very aggressive, rude barmaid. No warning of "last orders or please drink up" , she stood and screeched "get out now" literally in our faces. The nice lads who work there (some new) were obviously humiliated by this vile girl however did nothing and let her ruin everyone's evening. People were talking outside about this brash, rough girl! Get rid as she does not know how to interact with humans and will cause conflict while she is there!!! Very poor for revisits.

This is a really nice old pub of some age with a couple of interesting architectural features including an old cast iron spiral staircase to upstairs room. They keep a good pint of Sandpiper altho quite expensive, its worth it. Staff are really criendly & helpful too.

The Pilgrim is a classic venue. This review is for people new to or visiting Liverpool as otherwise youll know it. I've been going there since 2002 and it's hardly changed. Its a small underground bar with a uncovered seating area upstairs. Cheap house double and trebles are available along with £1 bottles of lager. The jukebox is free between 1pm and 4pm so great place for a day session. Loads of character and characters inhabit the Pilgrim. Great place for a long session or popping in for a swift one.

The short male staff member, I think he’s the manager, constantly ruins the vibe. Barking orders at customers and is aggressive and rude from the off on multiple occasions. The pub is good if you can avoid him, but I wouldn’t chance it.

A particular staff member has bit of a power complex, barking unreasonable orders at paying customers.

Lovely trad pub with nice staff and good prices, however one rude barman took the place down a noch.

Staff were nice and friendly and it's nice to see an old traditional style pub in a lovely part of town. However this pub has got to be one of the filthiest pubs I've been in. I did not want to touch anything as anything you did touch your hand stuck to. The toilets weren't nice and I think a lick of fresh paint wouldn't go a miss.

Small space but everyone was really nice, even though it was kind of a messy night with the prodigy gig being quite nearby.

Quirky pub in the Uni Quarter. Used to come here in the 80s as a student, revisited recently and it's just the same!

This a very 'real untouched pub' I loved it. It was like going back in time and the surrounding area reflects this, cobbled streets, lovely houses and the Anglican Cathedral within walking distance. The wine was good as well!

I really like this place for quiet civilised weekend drinks the booths are great to sit and chat in plenty of space and fantastic drink prices especially on the double drinks. Good to go to for drinks after a show at the unity theatre.

Visit early afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all but you can tell that it must get really going later on . Basement pub with some outdoor seating to the side . Only stopped in for a quick pint but really enjoyed the music mix during my visit.

I love this pub 😍 ok it's not up there I'm terms of high class wine bar style but it's a classic 👌 good feel old school like Boozer with a welcoming feeling and they have kept the old features of that area, cobbled Street leading in and part of the Old stable if I'm not mistaken 😀

Bit down-at-heel I'm afraid. Bar staff really lovely and helpful but pub itself needs a lot of attention in terms of decoration, fixtures and fittings. Good choice of real ales

Ahhh The Pilgrim. A Liverpool institution like The Swan for meeting your mates before going to the Krazyhouse back in the day. Frozen in time including some of the customers but there's a mix of people passing through. It's rough and ready (ladies don't expect the two toilets to be anything more than functional, and watch the door on the right cos it sticks) but that's its charm. The decor isn't fancy and neither are the drinks, no poncey tenner cocktails just decent standard bevs. No table service or QR codes, just go the bar when you want a drink. You can get a booth, shove something on the jukebox and bed in for the night. There's a small outside seating area at the front, mostly occupied by smokers and it fills up quickly. Watch the stairs from there down to inside if you've had a few. Staff are friendly and so is the atmosphere. Long live The Pilgrim.

Student pub. Reasonable beer but very little decent stout.

If you like something a bit different you'll like this place. Good beer choice and set up as a music venue.

Always a great place to pop in for a drink. Good staff and nice atmosphere due to the decor and customers. Drinks are pretty much same prices as everywhere apart from the bottle of Carlsberg deal they've been doing for years which is great. Only real problem from here is the toilets are not the nicest of places.

Love this place. Seems to be the only place in the city with reasonably priced drinks! Great atmosphere and the juke box makes me want to always pop in.

This is the pilgrim and not the cathedral.....juke box every table( not working) nose dived a bit from 2 year ago but who or what venue hasnt, would i call again , yes.

I personally really struggle with this pub. It's old, great location, you have to go down stairs into what is a really large & feels like a cellar room & bar. It's always quite dark, but upstairs is a narrow Court yard with plenty of outside seating off the Road & somewhere to enjoy the sun. It has at least four cask ale pumps but I am yet to get a pint of cask here! It's clearly popular it's well worth a visit but if your preference is similar to mine you might be disappointed.
