The pub/cafe on the right is where we visited. Just stopped for a bite, the seafood chowder was lovely. Hit the spot and the atmosphere was nice and quiet which is just what we needed on our journey. Staff were attentive and the establishment was cosy. The chairs were a nice touch being made from tweed.

Not a good meal, but not really a poor one. Certainly expensive for what it was. Nothing outstanding, though the chowder was nice However, even that was not hot enough. Poorish were: derisory Mediterranean vegetables" (barely a dessertspoonful) with my rack of lamb. Similarly derisory, unlayered Dauphinoise potatoes also with my lamb - about the size of a single 3" x 1" Mr Kipling Country Slice. The Dauphin wouldn't have touched it! 10oz ribeye steal which was almost as thin as a "minute" steak and never 10oz. We suspected it was a thin slice of rump. Béarnaise sauce which bore an uncanny resemblance in taste and hue to peppercorn sauce. And so it went on. The waitresses were excellent, so we left the advised tip. Food not bad enough to complain of, but mediocre. Bill (with wine) £170. We know plenty of restaurants where that will buy a really excellent meal for three. Disappointed. We stayed 5 njghts in one of the hotel's Kirklea self catering apartments. Expensive, but very comfortable. No complaints at all on that score. Be warned that the apartment will be "made up" daily unless you leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign out, so leave it in a fit state for that.

i could not believe it: a cafeteria on a ferry that served incredibly good food! On the way to the Isle of Lewis & Harris, we had the CalMac & Cheese - rich, creamy, flavourful; the fish and chips, as good as any we had eaten in chippies along the coast; a savoury steak pie with lovely pastry. On the way back, the husband ordered calamari, and it was the best ever. The calamari was sweet and so tender it was almost melt-in-your-mouth. Wow, i wish i had ordered it too. The staff was friendly, efficient and cheerful. On the return cruise to the mainland, one of the ladies remembered me, greeting like a friend. Way to go, CalMac!

I found the food very disappointing. I had a fish soup that was too thick for my liking. This was also served even though I had just had my aperitif. My favorite dish, rack of lamb, was too fatty and far from tender. You can expect better for the prices charged. The service was friendly.

We were staying at the hotel for a few nights, so booked in for dinner on the Sunday we arrived, expecting something fairly special from the good reviews on here. The main restaurant dishes didn't really grab us, so we both went for the 'cajun' chicken burger from the bar menu. Food came out very quickly but, sadly, wasn't very impressive. The chips were decent, as was the salad, but the main part of the meal, the burger, was quite dry and didn't taste cajun at all. We're not the types who'd attract the attention of staff to complain about this (unless it was totally inedible), although we would've mentioned the issue if the staff had asked us if everything had been fine. Sadly, no one asked (for the second night in a row, in fact, although different restaurant the previous night), so we just paid and left. It has, however, made us put more effort into finding alternative places to eat, as our anniversary is while we stay here and we hope not to be disappointed on that occasion.

We visited this restaurant for dinner. Whilst the food was tasty, it was very overpriced. We live in London so are used to paying more. However, we found the price point exceeded some comparable restaurants we've eaten at in London! The staff were also not overly warm or friendly. We ordered 3 courses and after less than 90 minutes in the restaurant were asked to leave for another booking. We understand that there is a time capacity but we hadn't overstayed at all. The manner in which we were asked to leave wasn't great. The only saving grace for this restaurant is that the food is night and day in comparison to it's neighbouring restaurant at The Harris Hotel where the food is terrible!

We had dinner here while staying in Tarbert. I opted for pizza, but was told that there was a problem so chose lasagne instead. This came with chips and garlic bread and salad. The lasagne was extremely rich and stodgy, so it tasted delicious but the portion was just so enormous. I gave half my chips to my husband and still had to leave quite a lot on the plate, and I am someone who can normally eat a lot! It's nice to have plenty of food, but not so nice to feel utterly defeated! Husband ordered chicken pie, but it was actually just a puff pastry lid (not a pie). Also the menu stated chips and peas on the side but it came with new potatoes and veg. He said it was nice though, and he had some of my chips anyway. They also didn't have the drink I ordered. In summary, good food but few issues means an overall 3/5.

We were very pleased that this restaurant was open on a Sunday (rare on the Lewis & Harris). We went here for lunch and evening dinner. The lunch menu was fine, there was a choice of toastie or soup. The soup option didn't appeal to us (spinach & veg), so we opted for toasties. I had the chilli con carnie toastie and my husband had the calzone toastie, both with chips and salad. They were filling and tasty. The even meal was very good! I had the lamb special (pictured), which was lamb fillet and a lamb leg croquette, this came with new potato mash, cabbage and a delicious gravy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had the scampi and chips and he enjoyed this as well. I gave this review 4 stars, this is based mainly on the evening meal.

Good location, opposite car park, nice modern comfortable interior in the bar, efficient and friendly staff, outside seating available in the back garden or on the front terrace, plus a nice large flat screen TV to watch BT Sports on. The bar offers a limited but reasonable range of classic British dishes for lunch such as beef steak or vegetarian curry. HOWEVER, all the food is about twice as much as I’d expect to pay for the quality you receive. It’s OK, but it just doesn’t justify the prices. We tried the fish and chips and fish pie. The pie was fine with a side salad provided, and a reasonable size, but it certainly wasn’t worth £15.95. My family said the same about their dishes. The restaurants in Tarbert all think it’s ok to try this sort of thing with tourists...and I can’t see a logical reason why. I’ll only be back when they either halve the prices or double the quality.

We picked the restaurant as it seemed the ‘best’ in the area. I had run in the Harris marathon that day and really wanted to celebrate with a blowout meal. The web site made it look very upmarket and modern. However, my heart sunk when I saw the menu. Only 4 starters and 4 main courses were the choice we had. The mains were basic and unimaginative to say the least. Salmon with seasonal veg or chicken with seasonal veg or pork with seasonal veg plus a veg option. I had the salmon and it was nice enough but it felt like something I would rustle up when I was trying to be healthy. The puddings also lacked imagination so we didn’t bother. It’s such a shame as it’s clear the chef can cook.

After ruling out all the meat and fish main courses I enquired about the butternut squash risotto to discover whether it was vegetarian. It was listed on the menu as coming with parmesan cheese and "crisps". I enquired of the waitress whether the dish was vegetarian and she said "yes". Realising that intelligence is at a premium in this "Hick Central" part of the world, I then specifically asked "Including the parmesan?" and she said "yes" again. Her tone suggested that after I had been told the dish was vegetarian I must be rather stupid to ask the same question specifically about one of its components.

We were really looking forward to our meal at the Powerhouse Restaurant, but unfortunately were very disappointed. There were only 3 choices on the menu for each course and only one local main course dish. Or starters were equally disappointing, I could have presented better in my own kitchen. However the mains we ordered, cod, was well presented and cooked to perfection. Based on the previous reviews we had high expectations of lots of local seafood. It seems that they (along with lots of local businesses) are struggling to attract staff due to lack of staff accommodation. We had planned to eat here both evening during our 2 night stay, but we didn't. We were staying at the hotel and I must say that everything else (apartment, breakfast, staff etc.,) was excellent.

We were staying locally and thought we'd give this a try, with a mixed experience by the time we'd finished.

Conveniently located on the car park opposite Leverburgh village hall, this van serves cones and tubs of very special ice cream most afternoons. A delightful young man took our order and money, and a very nice lady made up the ice creams. A little mental concentration is required; you have to decide 1) what size you require, 2) whether to have ice cream or frozen yoghurt as the base, and 3) what flavour to choose. I had the blackberry, which was fabulous. Just one suggestion; could you site a waste bin near the van, for used paper cups?
