Pier Red in Northumberland

Great, friendly service with tasty food. Menu was fairly limited but what we ordered was delicious.

This is one of the most relaxed venues you can find in the Borders. Most places standards drop. But not here. Their chocolate and morello brownies are to die for... We also love their soups. Everything is made from scratch and never mass produced. Around once or twice a month, they also have a supper menu which you can sign up for. Great place.

Super little restaurant & bar just down from the railway station in the way into the town. Friendly fun atmosphere everyone made to feel very welcome by Joanne proprietor. Fab spot to meet with family & friends pre Christmas drinks.

A colleague and I visited here for a lunch before a meeting. Lovely ambience, food was good, staff were helpful and attentive, so can throughly recommend you paying a visit. All in all a place worth noting for future visits

Arrived just as they were setting up for evening service looking for coffee and cake. Despite having cleared away their cakes they allowed us to see what they had and choose some. Great coffee, cakes and brilliant service. We'll definitely be going back for a meal.

Called a couple of times while on holiday in Berwick. Lovely atmosphere and attentive service. Limited menu but what was on offer was excellent quality food at a fair price. If your in the area, call in. You wont be disappointed.

Stopped in here for lunch on the way to Edinburgh. Nice little cafe and the food and service was great. Well worth us leaving the main road to grab a bite here.

My husband and I called in at lunchtime and chose a seat in the window. We were a little apprehensive about what to expect as there was only two other tables occupied but we needn’t have worried. It was a real treat. It is not a vast lunch menu but we were still spoilt for choice. I went for a cheese and chutney wrap while my husband had salmon pate and oat biscuits. Not being too busy the meals soon arrived and they were delicious. Although, from the outside, it looked as it it could be pricey but we found the prices reasonable. We will definitely return.

Super coffee shop nicely decorated and very clean facilities. Can be an evening bar as well. Lovely seating. Well patronised locally.

This has just got to be the most terrible so called 'cafe' in Northumberland. The staff are truly appalling as is the food. When we complained a most objectionable man was simply rude. AVOID.

Went to our first tapas evening at Pier Red and really enjoyed it. This times theme was Asian with Teriyaki Cauliflower, crispy Pork, spring roll, chicken Bao buns, rice, noodles and prawn crackers. All washed down with a great value Prosecco, ice cream and a very well made cappuccino. Have been for lunch too and enjoyed that as well. Recommended

Cannot recommend enough. We stopped off on our way home after doing the north coast 500 in a motor home-it was the best food we’d had all week! It looked so inviting from the outside and was warm and cosy inside, beautiful decor and lighting and was incredibly clean. It didn’t matter that there wasn’t a huge menu because the food was outstanding. Crayfish in a brioche sub and a chicken naanwhich just perfection. The owner and her Mum were lovely, impeccable hosts, really friendly and they really deserve for this venture to be a success. They had only been open 3 weeks but it felt like a confident, successful business already. Will definitely return!

Weather is a drink , light bite or evening meal Pier Red is the perfect location & a must if visiting Berwick upon Tweed. We enjoyed a bottle of pink champagne with a light lunch followed by some beautiful home baked cake. Excellent venue , lovely food , friendly service well stocked bar & its dog friendly. Reasonably priced we simply couldn’t fault it

We stumbled across this place enroute to Edinburgh and what a joy. Tastefully decorated with a lovely lunch menu- food was lovely and a surprisingly lovely Chilean Sav (I’m normally a Marlborough girl) and a fabulous Malbec. But what really made it was the owner. Friendly, informative and very passionate about Berwick. Who knew this place was so interesting and immersed in so much history. If we hadn’t been visiting friends, we’d have stayed all afternoon. Berwick is a need to go place - we’ll definitely be back to see more. Thankyou for a lovely couple of hours Will and Sue x

I was there for a poetry reading event as part of Berwick-upon-Tweed Literary Festival. It's a nice place, mostly tables and chairs, a sofa. Airy, bright. Food, wine, coffee. Recommended

Nice clean and quiet establishment. Perfect for a G & T or a glass of wine. Owner full of information for the area well worth talking to. Recommended. They also do a good coffee and cakes.

Only had a pot of tea as the Chef was unavailable, caring for their poorly child. I hope all will soon be well. The menu was intriguing and the relaxed atmosphere with art work to buy, tempting.

My first visit to Berwick upon Tweed and I found this Caffe bar on my way home. My train was cancelled so I went back for a second cappuccino. Lovely coffee and cake and very friendly staff. I will definitely visit again. Thank you.

We called at lunchtime for drinks after a long walk and so glad we did. The owner was very welcoming and we had a lovely chat about the town (we were visitors there for a few days). Well worth a visit for a nice glass of wine and definitely the nicest place we have been to in the town. Thank you to the owner for the recommendation of a local eatery for the evening as we were struggling to find something to our taste.

Dog friendly which is great as sometimes a lovely setting is the order of the day! Very nice owner and the food and drinks are delicious. It is expensive however, for me it’s worth it as it’s so pleasant to relax here with a good book.

Fantastic coffee shop. Called in today while visiting Berwick. We had coffee and cake. The slice of cake was amazing, freshly made that morning and you could tell, it was so moist. The shop itself is lovely inside and so clean. Air conditioning too, which was great. The guy that served us, I think maybe the owner was so welcoming. Pier Red is an art gallery serving food and drink in the historic Marley town of Berwick Upon Tweed. Relax chill Out and enjoy ! Menu is small but the food is to a very high standard and tasty, good selection of beers wines and spirits. Freshly made coffees scones and delicious home made cakes , light bites are All available in an air conditioned gallery supporting local artists. The proprietor is always keen to dish out info on the town and places to visit in the area.

Pier Red is rather unusual in that it is a coffee house with a great variety of hot drinks and cakes during the day, with the option to return a few hours later and enjoy an alcoholic beverage, with an atmosphere to accomodate both. (or enjoy a beer alongside your coffee if that took your fancy!)As stated in other reviews, what makes it a cut above is the excellent customer service and welcome that you receive. We spent a good hour in the place chatting to the manager, who gave us some great tips on what to see and do locally.Highly recommended place to rest your feet after a day's touring and enjoy a hot or cold drink alongside a great cake choice.

Stayed in Berwick with a friend and called in here for a couple of glasses of wine. A lovely place to relax with friendly staff. We were well looked after.

Went here with a group of friends for lunch and we were very impressed with the service which was efficient and came with a smile. The menu is not huge but has sufficient choice for lunch. According to friends, the salad was excellent. I had a vegetarian flatbread which was good, though slightly on the small side. We would go to this well appointed restaurant again.

This is a real find. We had lunchtime snacks there and the food was beautifully served with much attention to detail. We were offered some tips by a very knowledgable owner, as we were only in Berwick for a day. A lovely experience and can recommend wholeheartedly. Thank you.

Went in for a coffee and cake and ended up with one of the most interesting soups and panninis I've had.Mushroom and stilton soup might not immediately sound appetising but it really was delicious as was the pannini and I can't fault the coffee either.

We had one of the best coffees for a very long time. The walnut cake was excellent as well. We just happened to walk past and liked the look of place. Owner was also very friendly, and told us what was a must in Berwick.Wished London had more places like this.

We visited Pier Red for coffee twice during our week in Berwick on Tweed. Excellent coffee, a soft sofa and great ambience, helped in no small way by the very hospitable owner, whose friendly banter was most welcome. A definite place to visit on our next trip here.

An excellent place to drop in to. Was not busy when I came in and was greeted by a lovely lady who was more than happy to serve me just tea. Excellent atmosphere. Immaculate condition of everything and high quality. Choices were excellent and the whole atmosphere was lovely. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you visit Berwick you must drop in here.

We went on a Saturday evening to celebrate a friend's birthday. The ambience was great. They do not try and squeeze as many people in as they can. There was plenty of room between th tables. The service was both personal and friendly. The food was extremely good. Good value for money. Will definately go again.

We came here a couple of times whilst holidaying in the area due to the relaxing ambience. Very welcoming, comfortable and relaxed. We enjoyed a variety of coffee/homemade scones and cakes which were all delicious and of a high quality. Staff also helpful in local recommendations and things to do/see whilst staying in the area.
