Pier Cafe Tobermory in Argyll & Bute

Last minute decision to take the ferry to Mull. Great food, lovely background music and hidden wee treasure. We walked to the end of the pier in Tobbermore.

Good food, Great location, excellent service, fabulous company and the sun was shining - just perfect, highly recommend. 🤩

We had just arrived in Tobermory and walking down the seafront. Most cafes and tea rooms did not have outside seating. At the end of the seafromt and in on the pier was the Pier Cafe. We sat outside and were served quickly. I had coffee which was well made and ordered a variety of food including tempura baby octopus and fish and chips. Both were excellent. The view was great over the isle of Mull sound and after the meal had another couple of coffees. We arrived about 11am and it started to get very busy due to tourists and a large cruise ship. Try and get seated by 11am. I can highly recommend.

The scenery was absolutely amazing, and the breakfast was delicious. The French toast was particularly memorable. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the complimentary toiletries in the bathroom were a nice touch—especially the deodorant, which was much appreciated after a hot bus ride. Highly recommended!

Excellent coffee and food all with a stunning view of the harbour, plus an owner well versed in the art of whiskey, wel worth a visit.

What a brilliant find. The owner Michelle and her young serving staff make you feel welcome .We had the seafood platter and the ploughmans platter.They were superb.The amount of seafood presented was good and very fresh.The ploughmans included local cheese and chutney.The teapot provided for 2 was ample for 3 cups each.We felt it was very good value for money.You may be tempted by the whiskies or the Pimms!!!!!

Not impressed asked to leave because a little dog snapped at our dog and we got blamed ??? Because ours is a big dog a couple who saw the incident followed us out and said it was the other owners fault so they lost ours and their business get you're story right before you jump the gun

Stopped for teas and coffees whilst my husband was feeling unwell, pleasant place, until we were asked to move before finishing our drinks. Some new customers had come along and wanted to eat so we got bumped. The proprietor then did the same to another family. I guess you’re on a strict time limit there so don’t forget to drink up and move on quickly!

We , a family of four, went here after seeing the good reviews and none of them were wrong. This was the best cafe/restaurant from our whole Isle of Mull trip. Owner(I assume Michelle) was so lovely and welcoming. She helped our little ones to settle down when we were managing to get in from an unexpected shower(well not as unexpected ). Menu options were perfect for us with Vegan options. When we ordered just one hot chocolate( as they never finish one each) for both she served it in two little cups for them. Being an outsider we rarely get to meet such a soul but were really happy to have had a chance in Tobermory.

What a warm welcoming cosy little place. We were looking for somewhere to grab a coffee but couldn't resist having 2nd breakfast/brunch! My husband had eggs benedict and I had French toast with banana, maple strip and bacon. Both meals were served promptly and cooked to perfection. What a great little find and such welcoming lady owner. Would highly recommend.

Called in late in the afternoon to sample some whiskies after the café was recommended by another local business. We were welcomed in by the owner Michelle, who then prepared a flight of 6 whiskies that we had selected from her range of those available (all local) Her knowledge of the whiskies sampled was very good and her passion for whisky shone through as we chatted with her. Would highly recommend popping in if you fancy a dram or two!

The best breakfast and only real in Tobermory. The perfect view of the bay, ferry and the lifeboats. Best coffee on the island of Mull.

Visited this cafe on 10th January and the weather was so good we could sit outside and eat our fish and chips! We both had Lovely cooked Cod & Chips , peas and tartare sauce , delicious, good portion size of cod, light batter, skin removed so fresh, chips had skins on and were very good too, The Pier cafe has lovely friendly staff, go to the end of Tobermory in front of the lifeboat station, and underneath the fish restaurant. Highly recommend.

Friendly, kind service with an infectious sense of humour in a cosy, welcoming cafe . Fabulous coffee (and my husband and I are funssy!!) . Food is ‘impeccable’ says my 9 year old . His sisters and parents agree . A real gem and blessed start to a wonderful day trip to Mull

Long-weekend break in Tobermory, and we stopped in here a couple of times for coffee or light lunch. Very friendly service, and the food was good – decent portions, well prepared, affordable price. If weather is OK, nice to sit outside on the harbour and watch the boats and people come and go. Would thoroughly recommend

Extremely poor value for money. Had cheese and red onion chutney for 7.50. Very little cheese on thin bread. Onion chutney was a joke. Just a small blob, less than a teaspoon, in middle of sandwich, then cut in two. Pot of tea for two was not enough for two small cups each. No extra hot water provided. Cost £21 for two sandwiches and tea. Felt ripped off. Came with those awful vegetable chips and a bit of salad covered in some sort of vinaigrette. In future will go to co-op and have a picnic!

Had lunch on Thursday- lovely sandwiches- lovely tea in a bonechina mug , all table service , sat on the harbour in the sunshine - what more could you ask for ?? Had a lovely chat with the owner discussing the joys of running a business ( I have a retail business ) ! We had a delicious lunch here. The food was homemade and tasty and the team was super friendly, going out of their way to make us feel welcome. The chips, in particular, were amazing! A lovely little place to refuel if you’re in Tobermory - definitely recommend.

A beef and horseradish sandwich in coop budget bread, and no taste of horseradish sauce. It was pretty average for £8. I think it has changed ownership since the last time I visited. It is a bit different, and in my opinion not as good.

We had a lovely breakfast here which included a very full vegan breakfast, which I always appreciate. We sat outdoors and took in the amazing scenery and the rain stayed off. We had read a review that it was cash only but you can pay with card too. Friendly service

Had the Haddock for lunch while waiting for the ferry. Absolutely terrible, thick batter and almost no fish. Our friends had fish soup with no fish. We were told chef always puts fish in but we saw no evidence of it. Would go somewhere else.

We had an amazing evening here enjoying a tailor-made whisky tasting full of hebridean/independent distilleries, with a chance to try to really very special drams 😋 Alongside this, a perfect and generously-portioned seafood platter for two. Thanks Michelle & Co!

Service was not great and food even worse. We sat outside and there was no menu on the table so I went in to ask for one and was told rudely ‘take one off another table, they are all out there’. My husband then ordered Cullen Skink, which turned out to be Leek and Potato soup as there was no smoked haddock in it or even a hint of a taste of fish. I had Macaroni Cheese which could have been lovely if it has had grilled melted cheese on the top, instead it had a few gratings of cheese on the top which when you got it did add a bit of flavour to the dish. We have not long moved to the island and had been looking forward to going to the cafe as has been following on Facebook and it looked great, but instead were hugely disappointed and won’t bother going again, which is a shame as the fish and chips looked fabulous.

This cafe/ bistro serves different fish in different sauces and sides. Or grilled with simple vegetables and potatoes. So choices for all.

Superb little cafe. Friendly team working in there the the food is excellent and great value for money! I’d recommend the Cream of Leek soup without any hesitation!

We cannot remember when we had better haddock and chips - large, fresh fish with gorgeous crispy batter served with a homemade tartar sauce, tasty mushy peas, and glorious chips fried with the skin on. Sitting at our table we had what must surely be one of the finest views in the country - over Tobermory Bay while we were served by extremely friendly and helpful staff. Impossible to over-praise.

Great fish and chips, quick service even on a super busy day. Shame about the miserable women serving the food to outside, no customer service skills to anybody she served, made us feel like an inconvenience for asking for vinegar

Gluten free fish and chips in separate fryer was great and really tasty. That was the only gluten free option that we were advised of but it tasted good.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The place was spotlessly clean and the staff worked at keeping the tables clean and sanitised. We enjoyed squat labster sandwiches and found the cost excellent.

Whilst on holiday with my family.. 6 adults, we popped in to the Pier Cafe for some food.. We were delig3woth the menu.. Service was fantastic.. When the food arrived it was home made and delicious.. I would definitely recommend the Pier Cafe..

Lovely place for lunch. We sat outside in the sunshine enjoying a yummy lunch. We had sandwiches with a side of chips which were all yummy. Good vegan options including a non-tuna melt. Cash only.

A great cafe. We only had coffee and cakes which were lovely but the various hot meals which we saw coming out looked fantastic. A good location with outdoor seating in a lovely sun trap

We had been recommended the takeaway so were looking forward to fish and chips whilst waiting for the ferry. Service was quick but were were very disappointed with the meal. It was expensive for a takeaway, the portions were small and the most startling thing...

Excellent haddock and chips, cooked to order. Staff lovely and brought lunch to table. Go and you will have a super meal.

The sun was shining and we sat on the harbour eating absolutely delicious fish and chips- life doesn’t get much better! Views were breathtaking and the owners and staff were friendly and very helpful. If you’re visiting Tobermory this place is a must !

Located on the pier at Tobermory you hope for more than the offering at the Pier Cafe. Really not good.

27th November 2020 just before dark. Ordered fish and chip supper x2. Enjoyed a lovely hot drink whilst sitting outside watching the bay for wildlife . Our meals arrived in big take away boxes a huge haddock lovely and plentiful chips. Homemade tarter sauce. Best...

Found this place whilst passing through Tobermory....gutted we didn’t have time to go back! We only had chips and cheese and the chips were possibly the best Iv ever had! Would love to try the other items on the menu, will hopefully be back to...

We were looking for a place to have late lunch and this one were the only open (it closes at 7pm). It has a small terrace with ~5 tables, but it was perfect for a sunny day. You have to pay before seating.

My kids and I are here after a hike to the lighthouse. It was a beautiful day to sit outside and eat lunch! My kids split a sandwich and I had the macaroni. The salad was so tasty! Great and friendly service too.

It's the end of the season in Mull and a lot of cafes/restaurants have closed or will be closing in the next couple of days. However the Pier Cafe is bucking the trend and will be open through the winter, albeit on fewer days, so...

We sat outside on a sunny day and it seemed like the South of France, but better because it was Tobermory. Our party relaxed as we worked our way through a huge selection of starters, main courses, desserts and drinks. Not everyone had every course...

Looks like a cheap cafe, but don't be deceived! The food is excellent with a wide choice at very reasonable prices. Seating is basic and crowded, but tables outside are good.

Great meal of incredibly fresh and delicious seafood. We found the staff very friendly and helpful! Couldn't recommend this any more strongly!

Ate them outside overlooking the harbour and the food was good, service was quick and we polished them off with a can of pop. Made even better by seeing an otter sunning itself in the harbour shortly afterwards!

visited here recently, sat outside on the pier, which was really nice. both chose a special of squat lobster in chilli and garlic with crusty bread. around 9 pounds. was absolutely delicious. no complaints other than the staff, while friendly, could be more welcoming

Arriving in Tobermory on a Sunday afternoon at about 4, this was the only place serving food at that time. My husband enjoyed his fish dish and the prices were reasonable but the jacket potato I had was undercooked.

Nous y sommes allés par hasard la première fois, simplement car la terrasse était agréable et qu'il n'y avait quasiment aucun autre endroit servant de la nourriture à l'heure à laquelle nous avions faim, et on ne s'attendait pas du tout à bien manger vu l'apparence générale de l'endroit. Eh bien, nous nous sommes régalés ! La propriétaire cuisine vraiment elle-même (les shortbreads et les scones aussi), et elle le fait bien. C'est une cuisine simple et familiale avec de bons produits de base (on a adoré les coquilles saint-jacques panées et les grosses pommes de terre fourrées à ce que l'on demande, ainsi que les soupes du jour). L'accueil est très bon et les prix modérées. Une très bonne adresse :-) !

We stopped off here for a drink and noticed they were open for food until 7pm so we popped back for an early dinner later on. It was just warm enough to sit outside on the pier, overlooking the bay, eating scallops and chips which made for a perfect evening. Good food, reasonably priced.

Great find for solo visitor during day

Very nice filled rolls and coffee. Friendly staff and beautiful setting. When we went it was fairly quiet so service was quick enough.

My fiancé and i visited this great cafe for lunch the food was absolutely fabulous , i would definitely say the fish and chips were the best i have tasted! Bring you’re own bottle is available with no corkage, a very memorable lunch in a stunning location.

If you like conversations with the locals, make sure you stop in here. It was lively and delicious! Lots of options on the menu.

This place is at the end of the long row of shops at the pier. The service was quick and the food wasn't too bad either.

Visited here on a day trip from Oban. Can't fault it, yes we had to wait for a table, but it was a busy day and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Food came quickly. Freshly cooked, well presented and delicious, chilli salt chicken was the best I've ever had. I'd definitely return and would recommend a visit.

On a visit to Tobermory we hid from the rain by going in to the Pier Cafe.

After arriving in Tobermory the day before after 5:00 pm, we first realized how limited the veggie options in the evening are. Thank goodness we found the Pier on day 2 (can’t afford a pricey - if delicious curry every night). Had a delicious, homemade spicy bean burger and some yummy Mac and cheese. BYOB. Takes orders until 6:50 pm. Lovely casual dockside atmosphere and really friendly staff.

What a really nice restaurant, the food was extremely nice from traditional fish and chips to some chicken dishes. Friendly helpful service.

A lovely setting at the end of the pier with a beautiful view over the harbour, and the steps down to the water providing the ideal crabbing spot for the children.

I've changed my mind. I previously voted Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife as the best. Not now after my fish tea here. Delicious haddock, chips peas, bread and butter and tea. Tartare sauce served in oyster shell. All for £10 each. Great location overlooking Tobermory Bay. Pity it's so far from home but hope to be back some time. We'll done.

Pleasant enough cafe close to the harbour which offered reasonable fish and chips. Quite a long wait but lunch filled us up.

I had the best fish and chips i ever had here and at a great price,all of the other meals that i saw the other diners having also looked very good,the cafe is in a lovely location looking over the bay.

Great food at a great price. I had a delicious plate of perfectly cooked scallops and hand cut chips, even the side salad offered something to the dish. Even more impressive was the 3 vegan options. The vegan amongst us was spoilt for choice, rather then the usual one "afterthought" vegan option - usually bean mush on a bun which is as appealing to a vegan as it is to a carnivore. The Aubergine Tower was ordered and declared the best meal out she'd had in months. Lovely staff, lovely food at a bargain price, great location and a menu to keep everyone happy.

It is actually rather good. The main problem lies in saying how really tasty something was, when it was a special; and hence may not be there next time.

My friend and i had lunch here which was just perfect. We were both very satisfied with our meal and the prices were reasonable too. An extensive menu awaits. We highly recommend that you eat here.

Ich weiß nicht mehr an welchem Tag wir da waren und was da los war, aber dieses Pier Cafe war das einzige Lokal das zum Mittagessen geöffnet war...die Tische sind winzig und sehr eng beieinander und das Lokal ist extrem schmuddelig und dreckig! Im Bad gibt es keine Seife, wir bestellten Cola und Apfelsaft und bekamen eine Dose bzw. Tetrapak mit winziger Öffnung ohne Strohhalm...man musste ewig warten bis man bedient wird und aufs Essen warteten wir über eine Stunde! Wenn wir gewusst hätten was uns erwartet, wären wir geflüchet! Wir hatten auf Grund der kleinen Auswahl gebackenen Fischsticks mit Pommes und Mayonnaise, anscheinend verwenden sie dort altes Fett, denn uns war den ganzen Nachmittag schlecht! Lieber hungern als dieses Lokal aufsuchen!!!

Heerlijk fish en chips in dit kleinschalige restaurantje aan het eind van het haventje. Niet vet en meer dan genoeg voor 9 pond!

We arrived early and most of the eateries were either closed or didn't allow dogs so we sat outside at the Pier Cafe and had fantastic hot filled rolls with a huge choice of fillings. Mine was square sausage, black pudding and poached egg. Fantastic on a sunny day with a great view.

Only in Tobermory for a day & we found this little gem!! Fabulous fish & chips. Generous serves & good prices. Try the breaded Mull scallops or the haddock goujons. We were very lucky with the weather & sat outside in the sun.very popular cafe & a restaurant upstairs.

Stopped here for a late lunch on a trip to Mull and couldn’t have received a warmer welcome! The food was delicious - great variety and prices. Our group of 8 had a mixture of sandwiches, haddock mornay, fish & chips and macaroni cheese and all were declared top-notch! Will definitely go back next time we’re over.

Excellent lunch with family and friends, sat outside in the sun. Food excellent. Recommend the three cheese macaroni and the thick cut chips are unbelievable!

Fish teas served from 3pm for £10 included HUGE succulent haddock with slice of lemon, home made skin-on chips, peas and tartar sauce, bread and butter and mug of tea, friendly service and clean cafe!

The menu is amazing and big but everything arrived fresh and full of flavour. The lady serving us was very friendly and helpful. It was affordable and we ALL loved our food (unheard of with 6 of us!) I'd highly recommend the salt and pepper chilli chicken! We'll be back! Thank you!

Were ashore from a cruise on the Black Watch and stumbled upon the café whilst exploring. It was a great position overlooking the harbour & the staff were very friendly. Delighted we stopped and had a coffee taking in the view.

Small restaurant and perfect for lunch. As the name suggests, it’s on the pier. Even the hot chocolate was excellent! Recommend for lunch

Called in here to have a quick lunch. We ordered lentil soup & french onion soup. The lentil soup was delicious. The French onion soup was ‘gloopy’& not how we would expect it to be. Worse was to come. As I started to butter the bread which accompanied my soup I noticed that there were patches of mould on it. On inspection there was also mould on the bread that my husband was about to eat. When I pointed this out to the person who had served us she apologised & said she would replace it. I would expect to be served fresh bread. This bread must have been several days old to have mould growing on it. The saving grace was the sausage sandwich which we ordered. It was delicious & the sausage was served in a fresh & crisp roll.

Good value in a good position. We called in for lunch dripping wet from our walk with muddy boots and we were welcomed in which is not the case everywhere.

Nice stop whilst in Tobermory. Wide variety to choose from including specials. Indoor and outdoor seating if weather permits. Food was fresh and tasty. Large portions and reasonably prices. As with many places on the island only accepted cash no cards when we visited.

Sat outside in the sunshine. The weather made this food seem even better.
