Pieminister in Birmingham

I have to say I was not impressed at all with the food here. The 3 stars are for the drinks, waitress and peas. We went on a Friday lunch time and the place was almost empty. We ordered a child's sausage and mash, and 2 motherships. 1. The. Child's mash was inedible, it tasted like frozen mash that had been baked in an oven so it had a crust. Out of the 4 mini sausage 2 were that hard even I couldn't cut them, I presume they were cooked earlier and then re heated In the microwave. 2. The mash with the adults meals was the same, the gravy was cold and the pie had raw pastry on the base. 3. Toilets had no toilet roll 4. The whole place smelt of old cooking oil. The only item that was nice was the minted peas. Waitress was friendly. It was the biggest waste of £60 in my life.

Shout out for Keren who fitted our party of 7 (plus guide dog!) in for lunch with zero notice, after another venue, which we'd booked, had problems and so couldn't serve food. Great, attentive and friendly service- everyone thoroughly enjoyed their pie meals and Keren was on hand to see that everything went smoothly. Couldn't be better, and very much appreciated by us all. Thank you!

Fancied a pie so went in for lunch. I had pie and mash with a pint of pie.p.a . The food was really good, the service very efficient, and I left happy :)

As an international student i have never eaten a traditional English pie before which is why i went to Pieminister. I ordered the Moolin Rouge pie with pig stick on top. It took around three minutes for our pies to be served which made me question if it was just a microwaved pie. They both tasted good however, i couldn’t find the depth of flavor i was looking for. The presentation on the other hand was perfect. Just look how they stacked em all. The staff were very kind as well. Definitely give it a go if you are a tourist and want to taste English pies.

Beef pie "Moo" was excellent, with a flaky crust, plenty of meat, a few carrot pieces, and plenty of gravy. Their house beer "Pieminster Pie" on tap was fine and very cold. Good experience. Wish we had such a place in Los Angeles.

Me and my sister visited before heading to a concert (after we’d visited in Liverpool previously). We both had the Sunday best (I think it was called) deal and it was soo good! The free ranger is definitely my go to pie! Our servers were lovely and so helpful :)

The pies weren’t anything special. Tasty enough, but there’s no mistaking they’re the mass produced pies you’d expect them to be. Whilst the pies are reasonable value: the sides are not. £3.50 for a small portion of mashed potato, another pound of you want some cheese sprinkled on top. I think increasing the cost of the pies and reducing the cost of the sides would be better - or increasing the portion size for the sides. Service was fine. The fairly efficient norm for these type of chain restaurants.

Great food and great service ALL the time. Was served by Chloe, she was very attentive and made some great recommendations. Will definitely be returning soon.

Kate and Sydney was the tastiest I’ve had in a long time. My friends had chicken pies, also tasty. The portions were just right for us. The food arrived piping hot and the extra gravy was delivered straight away. Service was excellent, the two girls were polite, friendly and efficient. We didn’t feel rushed at all. The restaurant was clean and tidy as was the disabled toilet. Really good experience for a first visit and will return when next in the city.

Having heard nothing but good recommendations for this place, we booked a table for a small group. We were all pleased with our visit. The food was good, the service was excellent by all rights, this place should score full marks on this site, however in view of the fact that the management and owners of businesses study these reviews. I take this moment to draw attention to the dire level of cleanliness of this restaurant... it was indeed dire! We arrived shortly after opening, so what I saw was not the result of the end of the day mess, places like this see. The floors in the restaurant had not been swept from the day before, the toilets were messed up with the roll holders empty. The passage ways and stairs to the toilets were grimy, dirty, and neglected and were reminiscent of an abandoned building. Pie minister have a unique restaurant product, it would be a shame if it failed by not realising that the cleanliness of a restaurant is vitally important to the mindset of the customers perception of the level of the hygiene in the preparation of the food. Would I go again, probably not. The serving staff, by the way, were very good, but they need to be led by a competant new manager.

Amazing pies, lovely atmosphere and great service. I had a Moolin Rouge, pie, which is steak with red served with mash potatoes. One of our party is gluten free, also a good choice of pies for them as well. Soft drinks or beer and wine were available to order. We really enjoyed our lunch and will be coming back soon.

well where do we start! the fact that we could have spent our hard earned cash in any number of food outlet's and we choose the to eat pie was a big big mistake and we were seriously let down!! first point the menu offered two chicken pie"s one with mushroom"s and one without and guess what the one without mushroom"s was not avalible and this is a friday night just going into the busy weeked( not good enough in this day and age) so we opted for two beef pie"s instead!! the choice of beer was a joke £5-50 for a half bottle of a 4% lager( shandy bass has a higher abv) so i declined the weak beer and opted for something with about the same purpose(tap water) when our pie's came out the server asked us if we wanted any condiments to which my wife answered yes vinegar please! and guess what no vinegar!!!!!! now is it me or do we normally have salt and vinegar of chip"s or am i missing something here?? unfortunatley that for me was the last straw and i went up to complain and say that i was"nt going to atempt eating my meal!! one of the server"s did offer me balsmic vinegar to go on my. chip"s but i did"nt take her up on her offer! perhap"s she was from a different planet than me?? all in all a complete disaster and for that reason i will never return!!

We visited yesterday afternoon and had a great meal. The food was good, good potions. I think it’s reasonably priced and the staff were friendly and attentive, good service. Would visit again.

Thank you - you saved our evening!!!! After terrible customer care at The Colmore Tap (don't go there, Birmingham visitors), we phoned at virtually no notice for a table of 4. Despite being about 9.20pm, you welcomed us with open arms, and were gracious when we were not quite finished by the 10pm curfew. And the food was delicious, and the service friendly and efficient. Bravo!

Absolutely amazing! Can’t fault it! The best pie I’ve ever had with a great atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Staff are lovely and I can’t wait to go back.

Popped in with some colleagues and all had a different pie and all really enjoyed. Service was good and place was very relaxed feel and also had a limited but great selection of drinks. It was pretty good, service was a bit over enthusiastic, chap was too familiar. Pies were good although portions weren’t huge. Tasty though. Good place for a non fussy bite.

Firstly the positive, the food was very nice. We both went for the 'Sunday best', one with the chicken and mushroom and the other with beef, red wine and pancetta, both were very tasty, with a good amount of sides and gravy. Unfortunately the service was very disappointing. My wife asked for a diet coke with no ice, it came with ice (not a problem). Upon letting the waitress know, we requested it without ice but to keep the lime. It came back without ice and without lime. Not to worry we thought. My 'Pie PA' had arrived and was decent enough. However, my wife's diet coke didn't seem right. So we checked the can and it was over a year passed its best before date, which is unacceptable. This was swiftly taken away and replaced with something else, at which point I asked for another beer, this never arrived, even after chasing it up with another server. Whilst I appreciate that all the drinks were taken off the bill, there was a distinct lack of acknowledgement from the staff and very little in terms of meaningful apologies. We were going to have dessert but decided it wasn't worth the risk of further errors. Based on the level of service, we are unlikely to visit again.
