I visited this shop last April while I was in town for a friend's wedding and it was such a delight! What an ingenuous idea... getting to sample tea before buying a larger quantity. A cute atmosphere to hang with girlfriends. You're even invited to bring your lunch! You're served cookies with all tea purchases.I was informed around Christmas time that the shop has closed. But now it looks like it's up and running again? New management and shop front? Omg I'll have to inform my friend in Birmingham. She sends the poor soul that is me teas. Great blend variety and quality!

I have been a happy customer of Char Wallah for several months. As a lover of great tea it is my perfect shop. Selling loose leaf teas and beautiful tea accessories Char Wallah is the perfect place to get quality gifts. As well as selling reasonably priced fine loose leaf teas to enjoy at home, one can purchase tea to drink in the shop. No food is sold so customers are permitted to bring their own. The shop on Cannon Street is tucked away quietly just a couple of minutes walk from the busy New Street shopping area, providing a delightful oasis of calm. The shop proprietor is welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable.

My wife and I were delighted to find that Char Wallah had not disappeared but had in fact relocated to Cannon Street just down from the House of Fraser. The decor is relaxing but elegant and the range of tea available is remarkable. The service is great with the making of tea being quite a ceremony. Prices are excellent value particularly when compared to chains like Starbucks or expensive places like Cafe Concerto and the tea is infinitely better. This place deserves to be better known.

This is a little gem of a tea shop, however never and I repeat NEVER order Organic Magic. It smells of vomit - and it's not just me, I checked with several people in the store and they were all retching. Despite mentioning this we were not offered a refund or an alternative tea. I managed 3 sips by holding my nose but then gave up as it really was not the relaxing tea break I imagined!

We have been here lots of times and last Christmas I bought a friend one of their lovely glass teapots with the promise of a visit to buy tea later. She was thrilled with the teapot and amazed at the choice of teas!! Today I went to get a couple of varieties for ourselves. Again a wonderful selection and great, knowledgeable service. I particularly like the fact that this is an independent shop but it's also run by people who are passionate about what they sell. And talking of their sales, they have an extensive selection of teapots, cups, mugs, in fact all that you might need and in many shapes and sizes. Today I was also told that if I order tea on line they will post it out free. SERVICE like this is long gone so if you want great tea with great service and a delightful place to try their tea then hurry to Char Wallah, it's really not to be missed and unique in Birmingham.

My first trip to Char Wallah although my husband has visited several times before. I was very impressed. I am not sure if this is primarily a retail shop that serves tea or a tea shop that also retails but it doesn't really matter. Essentially you have a shop selling a wide range of loose leaf tea and all sorts of tea accessories, with a few tables where you can sit and relax and sample the wares. Julie, the co owner, was extremely knowledgeable but not in the least pushy. We had freshly made tea delivered to our table in pretty glass pots. My husband had a green tea, the Lemon Sencha, and I had the Stockholm blend, a flavoured black tea, so we had separate timers to ensure we each had the perfect cup.I loved that it was so quiet- no piped music- and we could just take the weight of our feet after an afternoon shopping. Currently situated in the Pavilions shopping centre but will apparently be moving to a new location next year. This gem is worth a visit for all lovers of good tea in a relaxing atmosphere but don't go if you are looking for food. This is a tea shop.

Me and a Friend visited Char Wallah for the first time yesterday 29th July 2015, been awaiting so long to visit this place and boy was it so worth the wait. The first impressions from the lovely shop window display with array of beautiful cup and saucers teapots and mugs, up on entering the shop it was silent and first thought there could be a need for some very light background music.I was so wrong the place is bliss it's got everything a fresh tea shop needs, the joint owner Andy was very busy undating and progressing the business which is due to be moved to new premises in the very near future. This man has put everything into this business heart and soul, his passion for tea is second to non and knowledge is amazing. We tried two pots of tea the first one was Emperors 7 treasures (peach) it was such a great refreshing taste, then we tried a pot of White Monkey white tea and green tea Andy the shop manager stated the reason for the name because the monkeys pick the delicate white tea leafs. We cannot wait for our next visit the young assist Andy's niece was so helpful and nothing was any trouble, she explained everything and was there to answer any questions.See you guys again very soon and you all deserve to have a continued success. All the very best Brett and Di

I'm going to have to agree with all the previous reviews of this place and say that Char Wallah is a fantastic hidden gem right in the city centre.Inside the Pavillions shopping centre one floor down from the main entrance. Firstly the selection of tea is incredible and is all split into sections for dark teas, fruit teas, flower teas etc etc. Even if you have no idea what you're looking at or choosing from, the staff are exceptional and have all the time in the world to share their amazing knowledge of their products. They even tell you how long to brew your tea for to get it just right. The pricing is more than fair, and I would rather spend my money in here than in a normal high street coffee chain. (The tea is always so awful in those places!)My only reason for not rating 5 stars is that there is no music playing in here. As lovely and peaceful the quiet is, I think a little chilled out background music would just add a little extra touch to the atmosphere. In the meantime, the pleasant conversation with the staff was just as lovely!

You are welcome to bring along your own food, making it an inexpensive experience - I think a pot of the speciality tea is only £2.95. Very informative staff and well displayed. We literally had the centres security guard telling us that the shutters were going down at 6.30pm but the staff made us feel relaxed and if worse came to worse we could leave through the rear staff only exit. No need though, as the guys there speedily prepared our gift sets but still delivered excellent customer friendly service. A lovely display of unusual teas and love the smelling samples on the wall. It seems that this place is a passion of the owner and you can tell by his in depth knowledge and willingness to allow both my boyfriend and I to first sample the tea before purchasing. Black teas, green teas, fruity teas, teas for your health and more. These teas are also available to buy. Our tea was served in a beautiful glass tea pot and presented on a stand with a tea light under it, to keep the tea warm. A "tea timer" was provided so we knew when the tea had reached the best time to drink, and we had a biscuit to enjoy. The shop has only been open five months, and it was very quiet when we visited.
