Pick Up Pintxos in Shepway

Called in without a reservation Saturday lunchtime with our friends, and had a lovely tapas meal. We had to repeat some dishes as we liked them so much, notably mushroom croquetas and bocquerones. Seated and served by a lovely gentleman who was attentive and humorous without being over bearing. Gianni the chef and patron was in the kitchen to greet us too. Great choice said our friends!

Lunch at Pick Up Pintxos restored our faith in Spanish restaurants in the UK. The food was really excellent. Highlights... the gambas pil pil were stunning, the jamon croquetas were perfectly made - almost too creamy and delicate but somehow stayed together, the slow-cooked belly pork was delicious. The Basque cheesecake was amazing. We've already recommended this to our Basque friends. People should not hesitate to go here. Thiswas the best restaurant lunch we've had for a very long time. Service was really helpful and friendly. Thank you for something so memorable. This is worth a trip down from London for sure.

Food was superb as always. The duck racione was so tender and full of flavour & all of the Pintxos were great too, with our favourite this time being the boar cheek. Seriously talented & creative chef.

A must visit in Folkestone! Very tasty food that doesn't leave a single doubt of how much care, passion and skill went into it. Great service by Andres who was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about wine and food. Will be back soon!!

Didn’t expect a place like this that far from home (Spain). The croquetas were simply amazing, honestly in my top 5. And the meat is from another world, specially the Txuleton. Very well deserved 5 stars!

First time visiting here & we came as a group of 6 girls for our Christmas get together. From the moment we arrived we were given a lovely warm welcome & the level of personal service was superb.. The restaurant is truly authentic & we were keen to get a real experience from our visit. We discussed our likes & dislikes with both food & wine & the recommendations we were given surpassed our expectations! Delicious, unusual dishes, meat & fish based & the service was impeccable. Sadly we didn’t get the names of all the staff, although I know Luis from previous establishments & it was great to see him - all of the staff interacted with our party in a way that was friendly & fun without being overbearing. I can’t wait to return & would highly recommend it to everyone! Thank you Pickup Pintxos, you made our day! Xx

This place is amazing. Quite unassuming from the outside but there's a genius in the kitchen. The guy on the front of house is also very knowledgeable. The boqueronnes was fab and the octopus exceptional. We then had the steak. You need to have the steak. The meat is from an ex dairy herd who have had a good life. The taste was amazing. And have the butter bean and chorizo side was brilliant. Really can't recommend this place highly enough. A total gem.

Vistied with some friends as a hight recommendation. After our experience can only say not highly. Authentic quality produce beautifully executed with a very helpful and knowledgeable front of house staff. Can't wait to come back

Great service with truly great genuine food. Had the hake in squid ink and pepper leaves, a feast of flavours, really substantial and tasty at a very reasonable price. Favourite place in Folkestone and beyond

As Spanish I was skeptical about the restaurant as I've been disappointed other times before with Spanish restaurants in the UK. Not this time. This place offers high standard cuisine at affordable prices. We ate pintxos, cold and hot, and they all were -at least- as one could expect, with some going far above expectations. The wild boar cheeks were accompanied by a delicious sauce and were so tender they would melt in the mouth; the pumpkin with squids and ink was marvelous. Even the croquetas were fantastic. Great Basque cheesecake, soft and flavoured. Very good service too. We were really impressed. Definitely recommendable and we will come back.

The staff were friendly, and the menu looked great, but execution was lacking. The "Basque tortilla with confit potatoes, green peppers & onions" displayed no signs of peppers or onions, and the "jamón Croquetas filled with a silky béchamel sauce and jamon from Turel" were all sauce, very little jamon. Plenty of imagination, but disappointing delivery.

We thought the menu looked interesting online and booked for Thursday night. There was a nice atmosphere and the staff were very attentive and helpful. Everything we had was great. I am not a great fan of raw fish but the boquerones were sensational. The chorizo tortilla was lovely and moist and the boar with pine nut purée was a revelation. It was so good the table next to us reordered it. The chef even talked to us when we were had questions about the coquettes which were some of the best we’ve eaten. We would order anything on the menu and will definitely go back.

We came down from Tonbridge for dinner after work as we'd enjoyed our first visit so much in the summer. Absolutely delicious, we worked our way through most of the small plate menu and finished very happy. So nice to see somewhere being creative and committed to good food - keep doing what you're doing!
