Piccolino in Liverpool

The best Italian I’ve ever had! Me and my best friend visited Liverpool this weekend and we stumbled upon this place close to Castle Street near the town hall - and I’m so glad that we did! Great service, authentic food and a lovely atmosphere! Would 100% visit again when I’m back in the city :)

Excellent food and staff on every visit

The food tasted bad and smelled bad. The service was ok but not the food.

Friendly service but very poor handling of allergies - despite going through it in detail, staff took it away immediately when serving as they smelled cheese on a dish which was meant to be dairy free. Lunch ruined with the thought what would have happened if waitress had not smaller cheese. Atmosphere very bland, not as nice as the branch in Manchester. Food was good but tiny portions.

Awful mothers day experience, ladies loos out of order, nothing for mothers not even a flower on the table, food very average and overpriced

Wow! Just delicious. We got the sharing charcuterie to start and everything was super fresh and absolutely delicious. I then got the fish and my partner for the tortellini with a Caesar side. Everything was incredible. Very fresh, clean and delicious, you can tell everything is made in house and the ingredients are top tier. The service was great and they have a great selection of drinks. It is on the pricier side but well worth it.

For the price, not impressed for the quality of food or atmosphere. We were seated by toilets and were constantly disrupted. The food was really dry and not great against what we were expecting. Really disappointed for a first time visit. Will not be going back.

First visit to Liverpool, people so friendly until I stepped in here. Staff miserable looking. I had my 2 grandchildren with me age 7 & 10, we had walked from the pier to this restaurant as we all decided to eat Italian one of the children wanted Lasagna. On arrival very quiet as it was 17:30 asked to wait , no smile or a friendly word. Children offered kids menu, who proceeded to chose Lasagna and Bolognaise, I chose Tagliatelle Advised that the lasagna wasn’t available for children only adults despite this being on the kids menu. I cancelled my original order and switched to the Lasagna and gave it to the child. Food I’m guessing brought in, and very mediocre. Tables too close together and music too loud plus overpriced for the quality. The worst Italian restaurant I’ve been in. I would avoid especially if you have children. I would have walked out if we knew of an alternative close by.

Excellent food made even better by the quality of the service from Erhan! The seared tuna was brilliant and the Pollo al Tartufo was creamy and tasty. Rounded off nicely with the bread & butter pudding dessert! Erhan was attentive and willing to offer advice when asked, a nice change from some servers who seem to hate giving a recommendation!

Erhan was incredible!! The sea bass was cooked to perfection along with the pizza and pasta! Would highly recommend if you’re after good quality Italian food!

Poor service under staffed for busy times, Waiters and staff stretched to accommodate demand. Be prepared to wait a long time for drinks

We went for a Valentine's Day dinner. We were sat down and had our drinks order taken quickly. The starters were amazing, with the truffle burrata being the standout. The mains were both good as well, and the gin & tonic was very good with elderflower. Service was amazing. 5/5, would come again.

We were originally booked into Riva Blu but there was an issue with the oven so we moved to Piccolo. The staff were very friendly and there was a good selection on the menu. We went for lunch and I ordered lasagne which did not disappoint. Everyone else was also happy with their food. I'd definitely return.

Me and my friends went out for dinner last night and it took a while for the food to come and when it finally had arrived 2 of my friends dishes were cold, they were able to make a new one when we asked for one of them but that took a while. Nice staff but slow service and definitely not worth the prices that were paid and not a lot is given for what you pay for.

Went to this restaurant tonight, ordered pizza, didn't think I would need a spoon to eat it. It was sloppy and there was no way I could could ever eat it if I used my fingers, came out Luk warm aswell, all I can say is I gave it a go, and I couldn't go back there again

10 friends booked piccolino last minute after we got a cancellation from another restaurant The staff are above and beyond Our waitress Hannah was without doubt so lovely The food was exceptional all 10 ladies agreed , we all chose different meals , not one disappointed us I will definitely return to picolino in the future Thank you

Amazing food, the staff is really attentive and all so sweet + the service is fast! For anyone with allergies as well they are really on it, which makes it 10 times nicer when you have allergy anxiety! Best restaurant 10/10

**Restaurant Review: Picolino, Liverpool** I recently visited Picolino in Liverpool and had a mixed experience overall. On the positive side, the food was absolutely excellent – beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The staff were also extremely friendly and attentive, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. However, I did find the portion sizes to be disappointingly small, especially given the quite expensive pricing. While the quality of the dishes was undeniable, the quantity left something to be desired. Additionally, I was frustrated to see an optional service charge added to the bill automatically. While I appreciate good service and am happy to tip, it feels unnecessary and a bit presumptuous for this to be added without prior notice. Overall, while Picolino delivers on taste and service, the high prices, small portions, and automatic service charge made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.

Such delicious authentic Italian food with great service. The calamari was a MUST! I got the carbonara and my husband got the lasagna.. we would order both again. Looking forward to coming back here!

Food was soo tasty. I asked for a half portion as I don't have a big appetite, and they said no problem. Only disappointment was no lasagne on a Saturday evening. But a good menu so easily found something new to try. They helped with my wine choice, it was perfect. The place was packed but all staff were attentive and worked hard to keep everyone satisfied. Will now try the Piccolinos in my home town. Xx

Poor service on the day despite pre booking and pre ordering. Not worth 50 quid a head for 3 course Xmas meal. Pub chains do better and for less. Won't be back and certainly won't recommend

I had the unfortunate experience of having a drink poured over me and my meal by the waiter. Rather than dealing with the issue he disappeared only coming back to clean the floor. My meal and I were soaked in wine. The manager arrived to tell me they wouldn’t charge for food but I wasn’t offered a replacement meal. I left, soaked through and hungry. Shocking customer service and a completely ruined night with my partner. Will not be recommending or returning.

We had our drinks order taken by at least two different rude male waiters and never got them, when we were rudely pushed to order our friend asked if there was any cheese in the spaghetti bolognese because she has an intolerance to it and the waiter said it does, but you won't taste it, then he said, after arguing and saying it can't be done cheese free, because it's in the sauce. I tell you what, i will get it made without any in it, and at that we left. It was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had.

Atmosphere ruined a nice evening. Music so loud you can’t hear anything else. It wouldn’t matter if the food and service was perfect the noise killed everything else.

We didn’t book a table and we only waited for 10 mins. The food was excellent. David, spoke Spanish (like us) and was very gentle with us, his service has also very quick.

Perfect end to a fantastic day out. Absolutely could not fault anything. Love Italian food/ restaurants and this is our new favourite, even if we have to travel over and hour for a meal it’s worth it. We will be going back again and again.

Visited as a party of 3 having made a reservation at short notice for 8pm with myself being a coeliac (gluten free). We were about 1 hour early and were told whilst the table was not ready we were welcome to sit by the bar and have a drink - which we did. We were seated around 7:45pm. When ordering I was asked if I had requested gluten free due to an intolerance or allergy which is always comforting to hear. All the food was absolutely delicious including the gluten free spaghetti and portion sizes were perfect. My wife's starter came out incorrect but within a few minutes the correct dish was provided and confirmation that the incorrect one would be free of charge. The service was impeccable all evening and we all agreed that we would return.

Firstly we are guaranteed to come here again. There is absolutely nothing I could possibly find fault with. Great location, excellent customer service, immaculately clean. Reasonable prices and portion sizes. We booked for an early dinner at 4pm as we were attending a show at the Empire Theatre that evening. We were treated like Queens. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious. We had a main meal and a dessert which was also gorgeous. Our waiter David was brilliant. He was very pleasant to us, had a little chat but was never intrusive whilst we had our meal. The perfect host. They didn't rush you out once you'd finished either. We sat for 10 to 15 minutes enjoying the atmosphere. A million out of 10.

After looking at other tripadvisor reviews, we decided to book Piccolino for an evening meal. To put it bluntly, the food was far from ‘good’ and the atmosphere was chaotic. Both mine and my partners pasta was hard and undercooked and the pasta sauce was so watery. The bolognaise was so bland and far from authentic. I definitely have had better microwave bolognaise pastas! A couple seated next to us left all their food too and clearly was annoyed at the level of service and quality. Understandably, it was a busy Friday night, however this is not excuse for the quality and presentation of our food and meals. Definitely avoid and try elsewhere…

Managed to book a last minute table in a very busy Liverpool. Lovely meal and would recommend the Rose house wine. Great service staff were very helpful

Absolutely top draw, can't be improved! The Food, the service, the atmosphere all absolutely top draw! Dropped in for an early dinner & as it was before 5pm the lunchtime fixed price menu was still valid providing exceptional value for money. My wife opted for the 2 course & I went for the 3 course (obvs) every course was perfection but there has to be special mention for my main Meatballs in chilli Ragu & sweet Chocolate mousse, black cherries, caramel cacao nibs & vanilla Gillette. Absolutely the best Meatballs I've ever tasted & the sweet was just as good as it sounds. The 2 waiters were brilliant, with great wine knowledge & able to describe & recommend a fab bottle of Montepullciano. The atmosphere in the Cook St restaurant is very cozy, welcoming with a definite Italian feel. Considering there are numerous Piccolino restaurants about the Liverpool establishment definitely doesn't feel like a chain, more sole trading high quality Restaurant & I basically can't wait for our next visit. Visited on Monday evening (October) and waited nearly an hour for a garlic bread (starter) they brought out the wrong bread then made out that we were at fault. They then asked would we like them to start making our main course????!!! After two hours and two courses we got the bill which they cheekily added the service charge (for such poor service I would have been embarrassed to ask) Will not recommend or go back again.

Solid Italian food with a decent atmosphere

I do not recommend this place, as an Italian because the staff is rude and the food is not Italian. VERY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE, I EVEN GOT AN ANSWER IN TYPE BY A STAFF MEMBER. Go back to school to learn education before you go public.

Overpriced. Bruschetta was just a single slice of bread with some tomatoes on it and a single basil leaf? I’ve had Bruschetta so many times and this one was just awful. The arrabbiata was SO bland and watery it was the worst pasta I’ve ever had. Like eating mushy cardboard. Server was lovely and good at her job. Atmosphere was meh, just a load of tables with too loud music. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Came here as a large group of 11 adults and 1 child to celebrate our UK legal wedding. As soon as we arrived we were seated, and a high chair was brought over for the child without fuss or asking. We preordered using their set menu as we were a large party - set menu was 3 courses, good value, large portions and great choices. I personally had the calamari, sea bass and tiramisu, which was all delicious and large portions - I couldn’t finish it all. Everyone complimented their meal! The service was slow to begin with, with us waiting quite a while for a coffee but we were a large table and it was a busy Saturday night. The service picked up and we were well looked after, constantly checking on us if we needed more drinks etc. 2 of our party were unable to attend last minute, and the waiter serving us managing to sort this without a hiccup and didn’t charge us for their preset meal. They added a complimentary bottle of Prosecco as a congratulations for our celebrations. Would highly recommend - gorgeous food, large portions, good service & nice atmosphere. Will defo return

Wow!!!! Did not expect this in Liverpool. We are American travelers and have been to numerous countries throughout Europe and, this restaurant is by far on the top of my list! Outstanding food, atmosphere and service. Prices were also well UNDER what I expected. Had enough English and Pub food..... here's your spot. ( Note: it's a half block from the Cavern and in a great part of town.

Oh my word. I’ve eaten in lots of Piccolino restaurants. All have been better than this. The food was terrible. I mean, really bad. Overpriced and poor quality. We’re talking school dinner standard. The wine - a chianti classicco - cost £33. It retails for £10.99. It’s the quality of a £5 bottle. Much the worst Italian restaurant I can remember. Avoid like the plague.

Hubby and I had dinner here and were very happy with the tasty food ,lasagne and calzone with side of rosemary and garlic potatoes and salad .Service was good but seemed to take a long time to get our bill paid despite staff being available .Had to say we'd go up to desk for someone to come with it .However we decided to return with friends again a couple of days later for the set lunch menu which I felt was good value .Pudding was pretty big for a set menu so happy with that .Unfortunately again there was a long delay in staff giving us the bill when asked .

We picked this restaurant at the last minute and were pleased we did. Both main meals were fantastic as was the wine, and the cheese and cocktails to finish were spot on too. Although there were a good number of dishes not available this didn’t negatively impact our choices. Excellent service, too. Well worth the price for the quality.

A lovely authentic Italian meal was had here last night. Lady on front of house was very friendly and polite. Menu is very extensive and something on it for everyone. Waiting staff are very professional and helpful. Lastly, the food was beautiful. Everything was cooked well including a Fillet Steak. Would not hesitate to eat here again and will now be our go to when visiting Liverpool.

Excellent meal here last night. Food extremely tasty and decent portions despite what other reviewers have said. Staff were lovely and extremely helpful and keen to ensure we had a good night. Yes it is a bit expensive, but given the quality of the food and service I don't mind paying that little bit extra. Given that this is a "chain" restaurant, the standard of food and service is way beyond what I would have expected. Will definitely be returning.

Really awful pizza, pasta too thick and over done by sitting under heat. Staff very pleasant and took the food we complained about off bill .very busy, very loud , music too loud. Crowded seating.

Staff and food quality was good. You won't get fat on the quantity served. I would not make a return visit as everything's grossly overpriced.

I've booked a table for two in advance and was given the worst in the whole restaurant. Attached to the bar, next to the till and right outside the kitchen. (In my opinion there shouldn't be any tables there) Expressed my desire to have another table and to be fair, 10 mins later we were offered another table, which was far better than the one we were sat at (the comment made that "we have another table for you, because you are not happy with this one" was a bit on the passive aggressive side) Sat down, took us a while to order as a few dishes we were interested in were not available. Ordered... easy over 45 mins later our food arrived. Cold mash potato, lukewarm meat and burnt and dry attempt of garlic and rosemary potatoes. The courgette fries saved the evening, along side the lady that served us. I wish I had more than a 2 star experience tonight. It's a 2.5 for me. Thank you.

Slow service, the main dish was pasta, watery sauces and no meat to be seen in the bolognese. Garlic bread was very oily and the potatoes were sitting in a plate of oil. Worst meal i have had for a while.
