Had a booking in here for drinks as part of a hen do. We had a sectioned off area when we arrived which was nice. The table service was great and the staff were lovely

Poor service - you have to go to the bar yourself! Also I've never had tonic water in what should be a prestigious venue from a pump? Our gin and tonics were flat. They were replaced and we were given small tins of tonic instead but the quality of those was poor too. I'd have expected Schweppes or Fever Tree at the very least. Pull your socks up at the Alchemist!!

Had a great experience at the alchemist for a belated valentines date with my partner, and was incredibly impressed with the service we received. Our server, Lucy was incredible and was always ensuring our night was going well and helped to add to our experience. I would definitely recommend coming here if you would like an interesting cocktail experience!

One of if not my fav bar in Liverpool. Love the place and drinks are amazing. Great atmosphere anytime of day/night. Be prepared to spend well though. Drinks are well priced but you can soon go through them!

Really dropped off quality wise, used to love going to the alchemist, particularly for the wow factor with their cocktails, but I felt the standards have massively dropped compared to my last visit.

Enjoyed a superb lunch of duck with pancakes, onion rings and salt & pepper fries all of which were beautifully cooked snd presented. Washed down with a lightbulb moment cocktail- a must visit for anyone.

Ella era muy atento, feliz e increíble en su trabajo. Nunca nos hizo sentir apresurados y nos controló. 🍴Nunca como bistec, pero pensé que al carajo, es mi cumpleaños por qué no. Ahora no soy un experto en bistecs, así que simplemente fui por el más caro. Irreal, se cocinaba perfectamente y se derretía como mantequilla 10/10 recomiendo a un amigo. ¡Un gran saludo al chef! Amo tiene el pollo en una cesta. Tamaño irreal de la porción, y dijo que era pollo apropiado y estaba muerto jugoso (en el buen sentido). 🥹No puedo recomendar la comida lo suficiente, y cuando fuimos no era muy tranquilo, pero la cantidad correcta de gente si me consigues. ⭐️ ¡Tienen una oferta de enero en demasiado cajero! Así que recomendaría ir a buscar una ganga‐️

A Weekend visit to the Alchemist, just off Castle Street in Liverpool.. As soon as you walk in through the door, the ambient is special, tastefully decorated. The restaurant is known for especially the extravagant cocktails they make.... Just order one and you will find out. The food overall is fantastic, well presented .. The staff are very helpful and polite.. The atmosphere chilled, but has a unique vibe. The Alchemist is just a Unique place.

Amazing selection of craft cocktails. Bartenders are real professionals. Watching them create these cocktails is like watching an artist create a masterpiece. Also awesome atmosphere with good music! It's a little pricey but 100000% worth the price of admission. I had a couple different drinks but the salted caramel espresso martini is quite lovely

This was my first time going here and it was for a work Christmas meal. I will not be returning. The food was really salty and wasn't what I felt would be classed as a Christmas dinner. The turkey was breaded on a few salty chips with small balls of stuffing and coleslaw. It also felt like they hadn't planned for that many people as a few of my colleagues had to wait a while for their meals. The staff were really nice but when paying by card would push buttons on the machine to bypass the tip menu. The one time at the bar I was shown the tip menu I pressed the other option and it said machine error. The server took the machine and when the server gave me the machine again it was already on the payment screen. I only realised I'd paid an 18% tip when I read the receipt. It really felt like tipping was not optional and the staff were adding whatever tip they felt like to each order. The atmosphere wasn't that good either. The music was so loud you could barely speak to each other and I felt I had to shout all night and it was also a lot of house/dance music and not Christmasy or something you could sing along with. In my honest opinion I would not recommend going here for a Christmas meal.

Venue The Alchemist chain clearly knows how to pick a decent venue, often opting for historical or period buildings. As a surveyor, I can appreciate that—this spot's no exception. However, I can’t help but feel like if you showed me five of these bars, they’d all look pretty much the same. It’s ironic considering the character these venues are supposed to have. Atmosphere Lively, buzzing, and full of energy. You’ve got your typical crowd mix: older guys with money trying too hard, younger groups soaking up the vibe, and a lot of people side-eyeing each other to see who has the next dry ice-laden drink. It’s got a good buzz, but let’s be real: it’s all a bit “same-same” after a while. Service Expect a bit of a wait. This place is popular, and the lines can be long. If you’re impatient, head somewhere more bespoke, but don’t whine when your drink takes 20 minutes to arrive. It’s a busy spot for a reason. Drinks The drinks have theatre—but do they taste any better because of it? Not really. In a blind taste test, I doubt this place would score high. I judge cocktail bars on how well they make a White Russian, and this one was average at best. 3/5 for the drink. Fine, but not worth shouting about.

Food VERY bad frying...not good

Empty pub with more staff than customers. No mixology at all just premixed drinks that were mediocre at best. Stained seats, toilets a mess and the bar guy used the toilet didn’t wash his hands and returned to the bar. For the price it’s normal to expect something more than a drink you can make yourself. Crappy brand with zero attention to detail.

I just want to start the review by saying me and my friend had a lovely time, we were served by Kieran (Keke) who was an absolute delight, very helpful when we had questions and we were served very quickly. But before we sat down at our table we were early so went to the bar and ordered a drink whilst we waited, me and my friend ordered two different drinks which we paid separately for. I ordered the share popsicle stand which cost £36 now it’s probably my fault that I didn’t look at how much was on the card machine before I paid but later on during our visit I got a notification from Halifax showing I had been charged £41.40 instead of £36? So I questioned this with our server who spoke to another man (possibly the manager I’m not sure I didn’t get his name) only for the man to tell me I pressed the tip option button?!? I explained multiple times I didn’t press anything on the card machine I literally hovered my phone over the card machine and paid. He explained it doesn’t let you proceed with the payment until you press a tip option? Again I didn’t press anything on the card machine, it let me pay as soon as my phone was over the card machine so does that mean the barman pressed the tip option then? They must have cctv they can view to see I didn’t press anything! the manager was adamant that I’d pressed the tip option of however much I’d paid extra for (he brought me the receipt so I could see, I left the receipt on the table so can’t remember how much the tip option was for) and then said he can’t refund it saying he can offer me a shot or something as a good will gesture, which I turned down as i didn’t want anything free out of it, I just wanted the manager to look into it as I know I didn’t even touch the card machine so unless the barman had pressed that which If he did then that’s very cheeky and shouldn’t be happening, I’m going to be disputing the difference with my bank as I’m not happy about this issue :(

Great night, but for the love of all that is good, do not order the plant pot. I have no idea why it's on the menu, most drinks are great fun, that one is just rank. Unfortunately, it was a bet so I had to gulp down the chillies and soil. *blurrghh! *

I just had the best night out! From the moment I walked in, the vibe was on point—great atmosphere, super clean, and the service was unbeatable. The team really knows how to make you feel welcome and catered for, guiding me through the menu and recommending spot-on drinks. Speaking of drinks, my choices were lovely. The Belu Lrg Still was a standout, served with a bit of flair. The Green Tea was great too, all about that presentation! I did try the Vegan Brownie and the Plant Burger, but I think they could use a bit of tweaking for freshness and taste. But the fries? Absolutely delicio! Overall, I left feeling really satisfied. If you’re looking for a great place to hang out and enjoy good drinks, you won't be disappointed here!

Came here with my friend yesterday for a catch up. The food was absolutely out of this world and the drinks nice too. The music was very very loud so couldn't really hear ourselves to do much catching up so we left after we had eaten but honestly the food was so good we really enjoyed it

My daughter and I arrived at 12pm for the cocktail brunch. I have been to the Alchemist a few times before and the service has always been very good. But this time the service was terrible. The area in which my daughter and I were seated wasn't overly busy. After we had finished our first drink a member of staff walked past our table 3 times, and didn't look at our table, or the table next to us, to see if we wanted another drink. After 15 minutes I decide to call a member of staff over to ask if I could order another drink, as I would have struggled to have eaten my food without one. After we had eaten our food, again we sat with empty glasses, so I asked a member of staff if we could order another drink. The lady took our order but didn't clear our dirty plates, or get anybody else to clear them. When our new drinks arrived we wanted to take photos of the drinks, so ended up moving our dirty plates onto the table next to us. A table of 2, who arrived just after us, were unsure if they wanted to make their brunch bottomless. They were informed that if they drank their drinks quickly they could upgrade to bottomless. However, they received the same level of service that we had and within the 90 minutes that they were there had only had 3 drinks (despite drinking their drinks fast). They left telling us how lucky they were for not booking the bottomless drinks to start with. I feel that when the service isn't good at a restaurant, you cannot fully relax, which for us made our visit to the Alchemist not as enjoyable. After the meal I filled in a review form, and received an email asking me to contact the deputy general manager. I did this, but a week later have still not heard anything.

The cocktail here are phenomenal, not only do they taste amazing but they are very aesthetic. More pricey than normal cocktails but it's clear why when they arrive

We always come to the alchemist for my birthday as like the food n the cocktails but was very disappointed this time n left early because of the very loud music you couldn’t hear yourself think let alone talk i can see why it wasn’t busy in there n why people was having one drink n going there has always been music but not as loud as it was the night we came.as for the menu this has changed since i last came we picked the ultimate bao buns which I asked for no sriracha but it had it on but did scrape it off they was ok but nothing special also had the crispy shrooms which was lovely n the best of the whole meal.for main we all had tempura fish n chips which wasn’t very nice at all left a funny after taste in your mouth.the peas was vile.we couldn’t wait to get out of there.

We went last night for some drinks (it was my partners birthday) and the bar staff were lovely, especially charlie(Charlotte) who was so friendly/helpful and gave a free birthday shot! Great member to have on your team.

I really did not like this bar - the table we were at was covered in glasses and due to the sweetness of spilled cocktails it was sticky and dirty no-one appeared to be clearing tables. It is however very dark so maybe they are hoping you wouldn't notice. The prices are ridiculous for no good reason other than the fact it is pretentious . Apparently they don't do drinks they do 'theatre and magic in a glass'. Clearly that 'magic' means you should be happy to fork out enough on one drink to buy you a meal in many other places. Not for me

You order drinks at the bar and bring them to your table yourself. Even if they have fireworks attached, only you can see them at the bar, because before you bring them to the table, you can at most tell your friends waiting for you about them. No one cleans the tables, except seagulls if there are leftovers of food.

Visited with colleagues after work. Loads of mocktails and cocktails. Worth having the options which has 👁️ symbol next to them. They have nice presentation - say dry ice, bubble etc etc. Quantity is quite small though.

On a weekend over from 🇮🇪 Wandered in to this bar and glad we did. The Staff in this bar are AMAZING, really talented guys that put on a show while they make the cocktails...they add a touch of magic and should be really well paid(I'm guessing they aren't..Bar owners are always stingey), I'd highly recommend this place to anyone visiting L'pool🍹🍸😁 Great range of Cocktails too..some really cool unusual drinks on offer.

Drink was pretty nice but rude bar tender who was watching football on his phone kind of ruined the whole Alchemist experience.

After visiting Alchemist in Edinburgh, Liverpool was disappointing. The overall drinks show theatricals and entertainment expected was poor and lacked the experience. Food for the price was poor , with blanching and warming up of fried food made it too hard to bite into. Chips were the very thin and cheap type, and overall the meal was no better than a pub meal (2 for £11) or a cheaper choice. Whilst commenting on the poor side, feedback on making things better would be , better educating and presentation of drinks to give the 'wow' factor. Better food, freshly made where possible with perhaps chunky chips instead of cheap fries. Bearing in mind this was a birthday afternoon booking, meal prices were £17 each, (one free for birthday) , the Alchemist in Liverpool needs much improvement compared to others, as we saw in Edinburgh which was really good. I can't recommend it at the moment for cocktails or food, and I may go back , but not until major improvements. Disappointing Birthday treat. And just to mention, an optional tip on the bill of £7.50, which we were not given choice to pay was added !!.

Usually have an amazing time but called in today for birthday drinks. As the only people in the whole place mid afternoon I would of expected more than pre mixed drinks taken strait from the fridge, straw whacked in and charged £25. Probably the last time we will be back

Loved the cocktails. The brulee vouz is very clever and delicious if you like creme brulee. Other cocktails and drinks were good. Service was a bit haphazard at times, given it was mid week and not busy. The background music was more akin to a bar rather than a restaurant. The food was really disappointing. Shared starter was okay. Everything from a deep fryer though. The main course of tempura battered fish was poor. The batter was too thick. The salad was nice, if on the smaller size. Our reason for visiting was a meal out. For the amount spent, there are many places offering better value.

I absolutely love the alchemist, the atmosphere and experience is amazing! The drinks are such fun and the food is delicious definitely worth a visit when nearby. I also want to thank our waitress Lucy, for being super kind and giving us recommendations when we didn’t know what to have.

Great place to have drinks or maybe a brunch with friends, The Alchemist is situated in Liverpool city centre, a very large public house, plenty of room, but for large groups, i would definitely book as you can imagine it gets very busy in there Prices are not for the faint-hearted, but they have a great range of cocktails definitely worth going even if its just for one Service was swift, but it was early afternoon, so bear that in mind would definitely go again. Went for a meal with my family and have been wanting to visit for a while, I was not disappointed. I stupidly arrived an hour before the booking , but they were so accommodating, and gave us a choice of where we wanted to sit , which is always lovely . The waitress was amazing.. nothing was too much trouble ( I wish I could remember her name) she was so helpful and friendly ! The food was fantastic and it came to the table so fast … all of us really enjoyed the meal .

Decided to go for a drink before dinner. Didn't disappoint. Had the bubble bath and old fashioned cocktails. They were both delicious. Girl that served us was lovely. Didn't catch her name. Recommended what cocktails to try. Would have stayed longer only we had dinner booked.

Dinner and drinks. Served by Ellie who was attentive, kind and offered wonderful recommendations on food and drinks, all of which were fatatisic?! We were given a table which was wobbles, but managed to flag down another staff member to help us, sorted quickly and was great. No more wobble! Ordered wine too, which was topped up by Ellie. She really did look after us, wife dropped fork, she saw and brought a new one without having to ask. 10/10 service absolutely fantatsic. Steak was cooked perfectly to. Cocktails fab, can’t remember what I had, fruity but nive, missus had pornstar, one of nicest in Liverpool. Atmosphere was good, we avoided weekend to prevent it being overwhelming after reading other reviews, and it was perfect. Lighting good too, music at good level. Chairs comfy, table just the right size (if a bit wobbly!!) Cannot praise Ellie enohhht. Nothing was too much. Professional and friendly all at the same time !’!£

Around midday Friday was busy celebrating first ever in person live experience watching Liverpool FC beat Sheffield United FC in Anfied, so with barmans recommendations he created these to drinks for me: Left: colour changing one Right caramelised junglebird not quite sure I drank left drink correctly as never had it before as drank potion drink first but oh well we only live once.

Food and cocktails were absolutely fabulous. We eat out maybe 3-4 times a month and this is by far my favourite Liverpool restaurant. Child friendly and the kids love it too, especially making potions with their mocktails

This was booked by a friend and I was a little concerned that the focus would be on the drinks and that maybe the food wouldn't be very good but I was happily proved wrong. Being vegan, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of options available and picked the Cauliflower Bites and Plant-Based Chicken Goujon Flatbread with Salt and Pepper Fries. These were probably the best Cauliflower Bites I've ever had and everything else was lovely too. I requested the Lava Lamp cocktail, the waiter couldn't confirm if one of the ingredients was vegan but offered an alternative. My only complaint was that it was very dark and the music was very loud. Our booking was on a Friday but at 6pm and it felt a bit like we were eating in a nightclub!

Amazing cocktails especially during world Margarita month.

For these prices you expect top notch drinks. First pornstar had to ask for the fizz as just arrived on its own - ordered 3 in total and not one had any fresh passion fruit. Teaspoon of prosecco in the tiniest jug. Save the Rainbow just looked like a glass of pop - asked where the disco lollipop was to be told ‘none left, we often run out on a Saturday!’ The main thing was though that the till wasn’t printing so I was just told the total bill to pay contactless. Only upon questioning it did I receive a printout to see a service charge that should have been mentioned when there was no printed bill to view. To be fair I was told that it could be removed, but that it would be a ‘faff’. Just left it as underwhelmed with the whole experience, wouldn’t return.

Little bit disappointed this time not sure if they had staffing issues but the service was not as good as previous visits - we waited a long time for service, for drinks and food to arrive and the first thing we were greeted with was ‘we haven’t got this,this and this. When we ordered drinks first they said we have only got one of those cocktails (how can you only have one of those cocktails left when you make them in house?) then they came back and said sorry there is none of those. We ordered a TNT which was more of a damp squib and the waiter had to go away and bring more dry ice to get the theatre- it all seemed a bit ‘meh’ and lacking in ‘theatre’ not as good as previous visits

Great experience , good cocktails thougn the "choose your poison" wasnt great tasted like undiluted cordial! Staff great and would definitely visit again to try more of the menu.

My girlfriend booked for us to come here for Valentine’s day for a meal and a drink and we really enjoyed it. This was the first time we’ve came down in quite a while. We had a starter and a main each which were both lovely (I had the pulled pork bon bons and the chicken katsu curry, and my girlfriend had a chicken starter in this sauce which she loved, and a steak sandwich) Both food and drinks were just great and can’t complain whatsoever, our waitress Ellie was lovely as well and really bubbly and always checking on our table. Would definitely come again :)

Went for a few drinks after dinner and we were a little disappointed. We went with the impression that this would be a great experience to have one or two cocktails. The menu hyped up the cocktails to be theatrical etc but they were pretty much just normal cocktails - one came with dry ice and served in a fancy glass but other than that, they were just standard cocktails. Toilets were also disgusting and the music was super loud. I thought it was a cocktail bar but it's more of a nightclub. The girl that served us was lovely but I wouldn't go back or recommend

Bottomless brunch is a waste of money, go to weatherspoons instead. The food was awful, full of sugar and sickly. The cocktails were tiny, overrated and tasted so bad, very limited choice. Was meant to bottomless brunch but our waitress Lucy. Came over only once and told us at the start we can order as many drinks as we like. But when it came down too it, refused to get us any more drinks until everyone at the table only have one drink left. Took her 15 mins to bring our first drinks out. Seems they just wanted to stalk the time out as long as possible. If you can’t do the service don’t offer a bottomless brunch. 3 times the staff forgot to bring out one drink. Had to chase for it. Then to top it all off Lucy had decided to add a tip on for herself of 23.00. Tips are not a given right they are based on service. Super rude and cheeky. Will not be returning…

I visited family for food on a Saturday evening for dinner. The food and service was fantastic! The music was loud which made it difficult to have a conversation across the table. We also found it difficult to locate the toilets so signs would be helpful!

Over all the alchemist was a pleasant experience as usual, I did find my steak a little closer to blue than rare but I still savoured it, my friends enjoyed their different meals and sides which came with excellent presentation. All the staff working were very helpful and nice. The drinks as per usual were incredibly photogenic and it is definitely a place I would go back to.

Walked in. Asked for a bottle of beer. Grumpy bartender open beer with a 250ml wine jigger covered in red wine. No Bev nap. Wasn’t asked if I wanted a glass. Handed card machine on one beer. Tip 5/10/12.5 or other. Awkward. Enter other. Awkward. Press 0. Awkward. Trying to blag service charge at the bar on a beer. A tragic, embarrassing and depressing sign of what this place has become. Can’t you afford bottle openers for your staff?

L' Alchemist è un bel pub-ristorante ubicato in una zona molto centrale, ben arredato e curato, un pò diverso dai tipici pub britannici ma ugualmente bello. C'è una zona bar dove servono ottimi cocktail e drinks ed una sala per potersi sedere a tavolo ed ordinare da mangiare. Buoni i panini ordinati così come la birra alla spina. Conto onesto e cameriere molto simpatiche ed efficienti. Da provare.
