I had a lovely lunch here with 2 friends. We hadn't booked the terrace but as it was nice day the staff were happy to move us to it. We had a la carte menu and were all very pleased..we all left empty plates ! The service was excellent. I had paid and we were about to leave when we got into a discussion so stayed seated. About 10 minutes a waiter asked if we would like some tap water...a very nice though.

Enjoyed drinks and shared some snacks/appetizers while enjoying a lovely view of Covent Garden. Would recommend. Wish they had a few more appetizer/shareable options as we would have ordered more! Menu for mains is a bit short so not sure if I’d be back for a full meal. However service was excellent and loved the atmosphere.

Seriously overpriced, poor quality ingredients!! Nothing made to order just heated up or pulled out the fridge. Chairs had cigarette burns in but would probably have tasted better than the food. Portions were small tasteless and lukewarm. I told the server the crab starter was tasteless and she said thanks for the feedback. Plenty of other local places with better food and atmosphere…don’t waste your time or money here, they are taking advantage of the location…don’t be fooled!!!

They provided us with a table .. we ordered a bottle of wine and a starter.. hoping we could enjoy the whole evening, ordering more food slowly and have a good time.. All tables were empty.. still the manager said we had to go in 20 minutes.. we asked the reason and if she wanted us to spend more money.. (which was the plan) but was told we had to vacate. What was the point in giving us a table that we were not able to keep….

Zero atmosphere, zero customer service... I booked this for lunch because of the seemingly good value fixed price menu. We were going to have lunch before seeing Professor Brian Cox. When we arrived we had to wait awhile. I asked if we could sit on the terrace but was told it was fully booked. (I didn't realise you had to book). We were shown to a very lifeless table next to a pillar. The rest of the restaurant was practically empty. Our waiter gave us a full menu. When I asked for the fixed price menu I was informed that it had been suspend for that week, and was not available for matinee performances. I informed her that when I booked that was not the case, and when I checked to week before it was also not the case. She summoned the so called maitre d, who really was not interested in us. No good will gesture, except do you still want to eat here. Guess what? No. We went to Boulevard Brasserie just two minute walk. Lovely staff, Two courses for £18.95 plus an Aperol Spritz. Royal Opera House, get over yourself.

Booked Piazza, as we were attending an Opera, at the Opera house. I wish I'd have gone to the many restaurants around covent garden instead because I was disappointed with the food. It wasn't exactly cheap either, a poor excuse for a sauce to accompany the fish dish, it was just stick. Very poor

I didn’t have the best experience coming here to celebrate my graduation dinner. I made reservations at least four days in advance just to be told that it was never confirmed once I arrived. In addition, I called just to confirm, in which the hostess did agree. Additionally, it overall seemed like a rushed experience and I don’t know if I would recommend to celebrate a special occasion or dine before seeing a show at the ROH.

This was a surprise to me and my best friend from her sister. It was the best surprise ever. Food was really nice, wine yes was a bit pricey but the deserts were to die for, absolutely delicious. The waitress was really nice and friendly. I really didn’t enjoy this restaurant at all. I was so disappointed and wished I had left before I had ordered. Menu was poor . Food very expensive and the chicken and leek pie looked like a school dinner. £49 for one glass of wine and an ice cream scoop size of mash potato and a pie 3 inches high in diameter. The peas were inedible. The waiter knew my dissatisfaction and did nothing about it and just grimaced when I explained. He couldn’t recommend anything - I should have realised. I went out for desert as I was hungry. Too embarrassed to ask for my money back. Never again!

Went as party of three. 7 pm reservation The terrace was very cold and slightly windy. Asked to be moved as crowd behind us were extremely loud. The starters were mixed up so there was a delay for one of our party. One starter was returned and exchanged for something else. The mains arrived the risotto was undercooked and quite dry. The others had fish which was nice. Asked for condiments 3 times before I got it. We were really looking forward to this evening as it was a special occasion We paid the bill and asked for service charge to be removed. I would not recommend this place to my friends

Great setting, good food, variable service. The problem was the timekeeping. We were a party of 14, booked for 5 pm for a performance time of 7:15 pm. We were asked to pre-order to ensure efficient service on the day, which we did. The main course started to come out (that’s STARTED to come out) at 6:50 pm, 1h 50m after we had arrived and 25 minutes before curtain. Some people managed to wolf the food down but not everyone could. The two supervisors clearly didn’t care and just muttered something about the restaurant being full. I wouldn’t risk a pre-show meal again. Great work, Searcy’s.

Had fixed price menu lunch menu, the starter of salmon was very nice but the Aubergine vegetarian main was nothing short of vile. Very odd tasting, thankfully or not I ordered a portion of triple fried chips which were tepid and not very tasty. The waiter saw I left nearly all my meal and asked if it was ok and I told him it wasn’t very nice and basically inedible, he just replied “ok” and took my plate away. We went to the Piazza today for lunch. Starter and wine were nice. Service was quite slow. Both of our main courses were cold and not a lot on the plate, and no taste. Place, service and atmosphere very good. Food too except for the inedible "Portland crab linguine with cockles, Shetland mussells, spring onion and dill": it was a disaster of a dish as the pasta was overcooked, the white sauce was tasteless and made no sense and the seafood pasta had cheese on it, which is something we Italians are horrified about.I am very sorry I picked this dish as I dragged our main guest into this choice and we were lucky not to have been sick afterwards. For the sake of the good name of the restaurant, please remove the dish from the menu!

Didn’t get as far as the food this time (although have been before and the portions, while nicely presented are small for the less than tiny prices), because the day before my reservation I was sent an email at 9.30am requiring me to choose my food for my reservations the next day, before 6pm the day before. As I was at work all day and the email went to my personal account, I missed the window. The reservation was only for two people. No indication that I would have to choose my meal in advance in a window of time was given in the confirmation email sent at time of booking.

The Royal Opera House has a pretty high opinion of itself and this is reflected in the prices but the food was very good. A chicken and mushroom pie was excellent but I nearly did not get it. We were told they had none and I voiced my displeasure that what is probably the most popular item on the menu should be unavailable. A slick bit of service turned the situation around and I had my pie and ate it.

5 stars for the service, absolutely stellar from the (I think) manager (whose name i shamefully forgot to ask but was there 25/01/24). We arrived 10 minutes late for our pre-show dinner res. The staff were busy and so there was a small delay in getting our food which meant we were slightly rushed, but nevertheless ate and made it to seats on time. However, without prompting, the manager had noticed the issue, apologised and offered drinks and desserts to the whole table as recompense. Turned a minor inconvenience into a really positive experience, 5 stars.

This little gem has a far too low review score for what it offers. The inside part - a wonderfully designed interior that integrates with what the ROH stands for. The outside part - wonderful views and atmosphere with cosy blankets and good overhead heating during colder months. The food I tried so far - two starters and the steak, were exquisite. Compliments to the chef and kitchen team for excellently dressing the salads! The steak was perfection itself and I cannot wait to go back again for it. The artichoke salad was a joyful and very well balanced mix of sweet, salty and sour. The texture was also excellent with crunchiness of hazelnuts mixed with softened quinoa and yellow raisins. And have I mentioned the dressing!? Yes the steak was on the small size as other reviewers pointed, but I'd much rather have it 32 day aged and cooked to perfection (as it currently is) than a bigger but unchewable piece. I find this point a plus rather than a minus and I hope the steak survives on the menu for a long time!

Really surprised reviews are not better since Piazza absolutely exceeded our expectations. Both of us loved all three courses (nothing we ordered was the same) which were served at the perfect temperature and portions were generous. Service was friendly and efficient but not intrusive. At just under £100 pp for three courses plus a bottle of wine and coffee, it's not inexpensive, but all things considered good value for money. Highly recommend and will very likely go back.

Booked a pre-performance dinner before The Nutcracker. Party of 4, me, my wife, son and son's girlfriend. We were asked to preorder the whole meal which we did. Arrived at 6 pm for the 7.30 performance. The first courses arrived in about 15 minutes and were excellent. We then waited increasingly anxiously for the mains to arrive, which they eventually did at 7.12 leaving us about 8 minutes before the bells went. I felt annoyed and rushed. The manager explained that they did not pre-cook which I cannot understand, what was the point in pre-ordering? The four main courses were 2x beef cheeks (surely precooked?), one simple pasta (10 minutes prep?) and one fish. It was expensive and because of the issues with timing not as enjoyable as it should have been. The food itself was good but because I was in a rush I hardly felt I tasted it. The manager took off one of the main courses. Sadly because of the timing it was a 6/10 experience. The ballet was wonderful of course.

Lovely bright and spacious dining space. Great views of Covent Garden from the Terrace Restaurant. However, the service is somewhat lacking. Water which was poured ended up on the table and was not wiped up. Other than that there was no attempt by the serving staff to make their customers feel welcome or appreciated. Service was slow. Food was good but not exceptional. Portions were small. Is there a world somewhere without triple cooked chips? When the desert menu was given to us we were not told what they had run out of until we asked for it. A lot of room for improvement.

Absolutely dreadful lunch for somewhere so prestigious and given its location. Five of us sat on the terrace (which is enclosed by glass) and it was absolutely freezing - we all had to keep our coats on and the table next to us kept their hats on too. There were overhead heaters but these weren’t working. The service was atrocious - we had to ask for everything. The wine arrived after the starters all of which were good. Three of us had a second starter as a main course and again the food was tasty. I had a Jerusalem artichoke risotto which was not - there was no Parmesan and I would say that it was made with water rather than stock. Salt and pepper (which we had to ask for) helped a bit. There was only one table occupied when we arrived but the restaurant filled up during our visit; however, we were the last table to leave as the service was so slow. The manageress realised we were not very happy and took off the service charge (which we wouldn’t have paid anyway) and didn’t charge us for the cold coffee. If you plan visiting this restaurant in winter, I would advise wearing thermal underwear and ski gear.

Nice large sunny terrace. Shame about the service. Waiter seemed disgusted that we’d sat down without waiting for him to guide us to one of the approximately 25 empty tables. He snapped ‘can I help you’ and when we asked to order some food, threw a menu at the table and stamped off in a huff. He then disappeared for the next 20 minutes (I wonder what he was doing, hopefully something to calm himself down, buddy seemed quite stressed). We gave up and left. Also the menu is quite short (9 actual food choices) and nothing looked particularly exciting. My fault for not checking reviews before, but to be fair even an average of 3.5 is rather generous in my humble opinion.

Go for a drink and soak up the atmosphere, but don't bother with the restaurant.. many other better eateries than this. Expensive for the quality of the food. Dry stale bread, flavourless fritters and lack lustre burrata.. it's a small simple lunch menu and could be done way better. Had a really super waitress to start, but I think her shift ended, and then I couldn't get any service at all! Still give service 5 stars though for the lovely lady I had to begin with.

We reserved a table at piazza for the “intervals” during the performance. Unfortunately every time we came back to our table our food was not ready. So we didn’t get to finish the food before we had to return. The staff we absent (but apologetic when you finally pinned someone down.) The food was incredibly disappointing considering the extortionate price. I had the burrata to start which was unimpressionable - bland and forgetful. For the main (which I never finished) the langoustine risotto was abysmal. Firstly it was too hot, but the flavour was overpowering pepper purée and the langoustines were laughable. So rubbery and minuscule. Worst meal I’ve had in years and £28!!! The restaurant itself is nice aesthetically but I will never return.

Our family of four had a pre show dinner before the Marriage of Figaro. The restaurant looks nice and is very convenient. However it is vastly overpriced for the food which is bland to the point of boredom and worse than a cheap pub but with Michelin prices. We had risotto which wasn't cooked and a crab salad starter that looked and tasted like a childs art project. The only mildly good thing on the menu was the pork belly. Ice creams tasted like they were from the value selection from Aldiand steak was completely tasteless. On the positive side the cocktails were good and the service wasn't bad - apart from forgetting our drinks order once. This is a tourist trap that should be avoided. So many better options a few minutes walk from the Royal Opera house.

Service was appalling , we were sat at a table that hadn't been cleaned and set up and wobbled uncontrollably! When we requested a new table we were told they were too booked but a table that could have seated us remained empty throughout! We waited a long while to order food and had to ask for plates and cutlery. One of the meals didnt arrive and when we asked to order new drinks the hostess asked shall I just do the same round again rather than allowing us a choice. Our waiter was friendly but clearly terrified and apologised profusely though I dont feel it was his fault. They offered us a free ice cream to compensate us. Wouldnt go again!

What a fabulous hidden gem! Within the Royal Opera House, this restaurant has an amazing terrace overlooking Covent Garden with an exceptional menu of light fare. It’s perfect for sipping a cocktail, catching up with friends or enjoying a more intimate experience. The prawn croquettes were beyond amazing!! Lovely!!

We had a very disappointing experience. Booked lunch for a milestone birthday celebration. The service was poor, our waiter was very disinterested and didn't seem to understand anything we asked him. The food was delicious but there were so many problems. We ordered the snack of the day to share before dinner and this arrived together with the starters, we ordered bread for the table and were presented with a basket with 4 slices of bread when there were 5 of us, and when it came to dessert we were advised that they had run out of everything except the pannacotta. As we were the first party there for lunch and the restaurant was practically empty, I'm not sure how they could have run out of everything. The waiter was completely incapable of remembering who had ordered what, we ordered teas and coffees and were lucky that none of us wanted milk or sugar as that wasn't offered. The waiter was pretty unavailable throughout and one of our party had to go and find him to get the bill. At no point were we asked if everything was all right. I would expect a restaurant charging these prices to be able to provide a good experience for a special birthday (and a dessert!!) and this was nothing like it.

We planned to come here for a meal after seeing the ballet, unfortunately things didn’t turn out as we would expect from the Royal Opera House. The service was poor with no offer of refilling tap water and despite paying a high price for bread they offered no butter or plates. On top of this we booked this place expecting a restaurant style meal as advertised on the website, however, with no prior warning when we asked to see a lunch menu we were bluntly told that the restaurant was closed and we could not go inside. Yet, through the window there were diners eating inside. We have no issue whatsoever with the restaurant being closed but we expected to be told in advance or at the very least in a respectful manner. Moreover, the service was condescending and we expected a higher level of service and respect from this institution especially as the friend I was dining out with is a paid-up Friend of the ROH. Disappointing doesn’t begin to describe this experience. Despite our great admiration for the ROH and its work, this place should be avoided.

Never knew this restaurant existed! Had pre-dinner drinks on the terrace with a stunning view on Covent Garden. Then the food was really tasty, had small plates and found them super easy to share. Staff was lovely and service on spot. I'll definitely be coming back again soon!

A lovely tasty if small lunch sat outside on the terrace one sunny Saturday afternoon. Booking was easy and we enjoyed our visit. Strange though that there are different menus depending on whether you sit outside or inside. We had small dishes and loved them, service was ok and the vibe on the terrace is just wonderful.

This was a pre - ballet meal where choices were made before the day. We had ordered the plaice for main course which arrived just after ordering drinks and receiving bread. That should have rung alarm bells. The fish was dry and overcooked, my husband’s the same. At that point we should have returned the food but we thought it may just be the outside. It was just about edible. We felt that the meal was very expensive for what we ate and when asked we did comment about the food being poorly prepared. No concession given. Fortunately the ballet was magnificent.

Lovely atmosphere and outdoor seating overlooking the square, it's perfect for people-watching. Despite being busy at times, the wait times are good. It is a great choice for a restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden.

This is a place to just come for the nice view of Covent Garden and get a drink The food is beyond average to say the least, the salad was over £11 and consisted of lettuce and some celery??? Prawn fritters were also more just of a croquette minus the prawn!

This is supposed to be a nice place to drink/eat and it is. However, the problem is that they don’t seem to have experience or training to work here. The cocktails are just pure alcohol and you can’t taste anything else. The only drink that is ok to drink is the ones that came straight from the bottle to your glass. They don’t even know how to serve a drink, look’s like they are at home making drinks for friends. I was very let down by the service! Such a fancy place with a subpar service! (One star for the place, not for the service)

The staff at the piazza are very friendly and efficient. Decor is very nice. Food very nice but very expensive. On performance days it's quite hectic in there. Nice restaurant for a treat.

The dinner was a special treat for my friends birthday before ballet at 7.30. We preordered our 2 courses and arrived promptly at 6.00pm- plenty of time for dinner before performance. Pleasant ambiance, glass of wine arrived promptly. Not the food. After 25 mins had to ask where the starter was. Arrived few mins after. Again had to ask at 7pm where the main course was as we were going to the performance. After a lot of hassle and apologies main course arrived at 7.15. Not enough time. We asked for it to be made fresh for the first interval. That arrived promptly at the beginning of first interval, with another glass of wine, was just about warm but delicious. We had our desert in the second interval. To be fair food was taken off the bill , but not the experience we hoped for.

I received an email from the ROH which REQUIRED that I pre-order for a reservation in the Piazza restaurant. I do not go to restaurants that require this of me and am cancelling my reservation!

This Could be a fantastic venue but inexperienced staff, very pricey menu, 2 out of three cracked and or dirty glasses means that this is not on my to visit again list. Please can someone explain why the bar on the terrace does not serve the same beer as the bar inside only 50 ft apart. Also at £8.50 for a glass of very average wine served in dirty glasses I’d expect table service. Also when I rejected two beer glasses for being hot the lady behind the bar took great exception to the request for a cold glass. Will not be back as there are too many good venues in this area, who know how to clean glasses and serve cold beer.

Slightly disappointing experience overall. We were kept waiting on arrival as the "host" was chatting to a friend. Service was variable. Decent price for set lunch. Food mostly good but some of the dishes quite salty.

I booked this restaurant and had confirmation of the booking. Having spent £20 getting there by taxi only to find they have closed and are no longer there it cost another £20 to go back to the hotel. Very disappointed!!!

Champagne afternoon tea served in a packing case / amazing. We started with smoked salmon and this was followed by a toasted sandwich. The cold sandwiches & cakes /scones that followed were all delicious! A glass of champagne & plenty of tea - wonderful a real treat . This was a gift & we would highly recommend it. Cold at St Pancras but with heated seats who could complain .

I have been here more than once... The wild boar goulash consisted of 5 pieces of "meat". 3 of the 5 pieces of meat were pieces of fat and fat only. Simply large pieces of fat. This is the second time now that the wild boar goulash was mostly plain forward fat with a tasty sauce and delicious pasta. That is not the level of food which was served in the past. Apologies for the negative review but this was just too awful. The service is great. The ambience is great, but the food... Nein, Nein, Nein.

Excellent Italian. They were able to accommodate us on a busy evening without a booking. Food was great and service generally good. I enjoyed the Tuscan Sausage Ragu. Overall, would be happy to eat there again.
