We went here on a Saturday afternoon, looking for somewhere quiet to sit and have a drink. Despite being laid out for lunch, they were happy for us to sit anywhere and just have drinks. Not everyone is happy with that. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Prices are slightly on the high side, but it is central London, so I guess you expect it. The food we saw being served all looked good, but we didn't try any. There is an area outside, with patio heaters, for the hardy. If we need a drink / meal in the St Paul's area, we'd go back there.

My wife and I were just about to go into the bar for a late drink on the way back to our hotel, when we saw two girls leaving the bar fall and injure themselves. On going to see if they were ok it was immediately obvious they required an ambulance.Whilst I was on the phone to the ambulance my wife together with the female manager and her friend provided first aid until the ambulance staff arrived. Great assistance from these two girls despite it happening outside the bar and just before it it closed, and so not all staff would've taken the time to help. The member of security staff from the Square who walked over was useless though. No help what so ever. Looked at the blood on the floor and walked on!Thanks to the manager for the tea and coffee too! Most welcome as it was chilly out on the pavement.Fingers crossed for the two girls that the wedding goes well

Normally a visit to Corney and Barrow is vibrant, fun and good for inviting colleagues and associates for a few drinks, we arrived at 6pm at table 1 and requested a few drinks, once, twice, three, four, five and on the sixth attempt I again approached the bar and was told to sit down again and the drinks would follow, I decided to stay watch the drinks being poured and return to the seat with drinks. I complained about the service but it made no difference, we were told this was being addressed but never saw a manager or waitress again. I once we started to purchase large quantities of wine, beverage and food the service slightly improved, but possibly my worst visit to a Corney and Barrow ever!

It's a real shame, as I have been at a corporate event this evening at the bar which was very pleasant.Unfortunately I failed to query a bar bill at the time, which I knew was ridiculous, but through saving face in front of clients I said nothing.I ordered 10 sambuca's and a JD and coke.I was charged £80.25, which if anyone is good at maths is frankly ridiculous for a standard pub chain. Sadly they failed to offer the VAT receipt so all I can offer is the standard receipt which details nothing. 'Mugged off massively' Shame since our party had spent thousands over the evening..... I met my friend at St Pauls in London on a beautiful sunny morning and we wanted to start the day with coffee and a croissant in the sunshine. My friend took me to Paternoster Square and Corney & Barrow fit the bill. We sat outside watching the world go by in the square for around an hour and a half in which time a table tennis table popped up as did a host of deckchairs. It is a great spot for people watching. We returned later in the evening for a few drinks and a snack before we headed home. The evening ambience is good with a DJ playing some good mellow tunes to relax to. My only complaint is the 12.5% service charge that is automatically added to your bills so watch out! Drinks were expensive even by London standards, £17 for 2 gin and tonics and that's Beefeater, expect to pay more for Bombay Sapphire. The menu does have vegetarian options but not if you want a sandwich which I find odd. Lovely spot but you pay for it.

Went back for a drink the next day. Ordered sparkling water with fresh lime. The waitress squeezed the lime into the glass and then dropped in the lime. I was concerned that as well as handling the lime she was also handling money. Not sure this is particularly hygienic. From the moment we walked in and were duly ignored for the best part of five minutes to the first order for drinks being taken (not sure why it wasn't taken when we sat down) to the food taking so long we nearly walked out and then when it did arrive it was pretty average. There were three of us and one vegeterian. The roast chicken was OK, the chicken burger was good but the vegeterian sandwich was awful. Too much bread and not enough filling and no side options. When the meal ended we sat for 15 minutes with empty plates and no waiter would make eye contact. I have been to this particular C&B many times but this was the worst service I have had in the City in a very long time. Don't go if you want a quick bite at lunchtime. I always tip - even if the service was bad. This time I didn't - it really was that bad. I could see other patrons getting angry and the staff seemed totally oblivious. I am never going back.

This one is a difficult review to write. The food was very good. I had Dashi Soup, which was excellent, followed by a tuna nicoisse salad. The tuna was well cooked but the salad had too much dressing. Colleagues had fish and chips, which looked excellent and another salad, which was apparently very good. The service is just OK. staff are polite but we had to ask twice for a second bottle of water and when they bought food to the table they didn't know who had ordered which dish. Not a hard thing to get right. The worst thing for me was the noise level. We were there for a business lunch. The tables are well spread out but there were two large groups in the area we were seated and it made it very difficult to listen to a conversation. I know it is hard to legislate against who turns up at the same time as you but this experience would make me think twice about going back for a business meeting.

I had lunch here with 4 friends last Friday. I am gluten intolerant so asked if there was a separate menu - to which I was told no! The guy bought out the allergens list & then stood over me whilst I decided what to have. I settled on burger & chips without the bun & the guy offered to bring me some gluten free bread. One of my friends ordered a Caesar salad which looked like somebody had torn up a load of bread & chucked it on......very poor presentation!! As for my gluten free bread....well.....it was warm!!! Clearly it had been plucked from the freezer & defrosted in a microwave. It really was vile!!!! We didn't even attempt the desserts as the food was so poor. The only reason I have given this place 3 stars is because the location is great. The weather was relatively nice & sunny. We sat outside, chatted & laughed whilst watching the world go by. I'd definitely return for drinks but would eat elsewhere beforehand......

Went for some after work drinks as a slightly more upmarket change to the likes of the "old man" drinking pubs around Blackfriars. Has quite a large outdoor area at the front looking onto Paternoster square, so very busy when the sun's out. The clientele is very much the suit-wearing kind but the atmosphere still manages to be on the right side of pretentious. Good quality wine, if a little pricey. The service, though not the quickest, is pleasant and friendly - we were never waiting to be served for more than 5 minutes. I can't comment too much on the food as I don't think the chipolatas and chips we shared towards the end of the evening constitutes a true sample of their menu...but they more than fulfilled our requirements!

I've eaten here a few times for lunch, always as part of a group of colleagues. The food is always very reasonable; on this most recent trip I had the pate, followed by fish cakes and finished with the chocolate fondant. The pate was amazing and the fish cakes are always nice. I do find the chips a little bland and neither amazing for thick or thin chips. I think this chain would benefit from doing proper skinny fries and/or proper thick cut chips. The one problem I do have with this venue is that the service is always slow. Due to it being a work lunch, we book ahead for 12.30 or 1pm. However, it is almost impossible to finish lunch within an hour so we know to only go to this branch when we have the option to extend lunch over a few hours. The staff are really nice, they just don't come over to take your order very quickly and your wait for starters can be long. It can then be tricky to get anyone's attention to pay the bill. It is a busy lunch venue in a desirable part of London but they do need to speed things up if they're going to retain the business lunch crowd.

The venue is fantastic, really nice decor, and a pleasant friendly vibe. The bar staff however, are another story. Yes, this bar gets very busy, but with 6 - 7 staff behind the bar, you shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes to get served. The staff don't pay attention to who is next to get served. My friend was at the bar for 15 minutes, I jokingly said that If I stood next to them, I'd get served first, and guess what? The bar staff somehow didn't see my 6'4" friend for 15 minutes but served me as soon as I arrived. One guy spent over a minute with a cloth wiping some beer from the bottom of a glass, rather than just getting on a serving people.Unfortunately, lots of nice venues are ruined by poor staff. They ran out of beer at one point, and I don't just mean changing the barrel. The bar food was very nice.I'd go here again, but never when its busy.

Went here with colleagues for lunch last week. A few of us ordered sirloin steak and chips and all of us were disappointed. Everyone's steak was overcooked (I asked for mine rare and it came well done) and accompanied by six "chunky" chips, carefully counted onto the plate. This might have been OK if they were genuine chunky chips like you might get in a gastropub but they were just overcooked and slightly-bigger-than-average chips. It looked ridiculous on the plate. To be fair they did eventually bring a couple of bowls of normal chips after we had complained - they must be used to it as they didn't seem surprised. On the whole, though, service was pretty poor. I tend to go to alot of the traditional pubs around this part of the city, as there are some good ones, and tend to avoid 'chain bars' as they charge a little bit more than traditional pubs, trying to sell a better service / experience, generally failing miserably. This branch of C+B is an exception. It charges almost £5 for a pint of lager. No one minds paying a little bit extra for good service, a clean environment and decent atmosphere. This place delivers, I probably visit once/twice a month and have never been disappointed with the service. They also have a decent sized outdoor seating area with heaters overlooking the square.Good selection of wine, and beers, including draught London pride.solid place to go afterwork for a drink with friends.

Stopped for last orders after a night out. Waiters couldn't do enough to help. Plenty of space (probably helped by time) and the drinks were reasonable for the middle of London. The food we saw looked simple and also reasonably priced. Not sure why we haven't been before.

I went for an early lunch with a friend of mine and we sat at a table in the restaurant, where we were not overheard by any of the other diners and were undisturbed by their conversations, which in my experience is quite unusual in the City. We had a glass of Sancerre each, pasta with a mushroom sauce for our main course and a cup of coffee afterwards (one double espresso and one cappuccino). The waitresses were attentive and efficient. The food was tasty and well presented. The cost of the meal, including drinks, was low for the area. All in all, a place that I would certainly recommend to others.

Went there after work. It was late and although the crowds had dwindled, there was still a buzz at 10pm. Service was quick and polite. However if you are planning there having a proper conversation you maybe disappointed- it is very loud inside so head outside (not the fault of the bar...its just the atmosphere)

Xmas set lunch. Food was substandard for the price. Best part of the meal - the roast potatoes! Terrine starter came with no accompanying bread so just a slice on a plate, processed turkey slices for main were dry, carrots and sprouts undercooked and cheesecake pud was no better than Tescos. In fact I'm not even going to bother saying anymore - just don't eat here! My advice is to stick to this for the afterwork drinks. There are far better places around here to eat. Places like Bread Street Kitchen and Barbecoa put this place to shame. In fact anywhere at One New Change down the road is probably better for food. Sorry Corney and Barrow but you should be doing better.

Private bash for completion of a project in private room -- handy to where we had all been working. Flowing wine and plenty of canapés albeit undistinguished in flavour. Still, we made our own fun. C&B prides itself on fine wines, but service could be slicker to match.

...and these were just the highlights; my triple espresso, rather than charged as a double with an extra shot, was discovered at the end to have been charged as an entire double plus an entire single... this is just RUDE!the waitress struggled with the fact that we wanted one eggs benedict, plus four full english’s, with poached eggs, no black-pudding, extra hash browns (which came out close to raw), and 3 with brown toast, one with white)... i would have thought that if this was too complex, she would have grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. it isn't even as if it were first thing in the morning (we ordered at 11am).whilst the full breakfast was fairly reasonably priced (£8), i think it is fair to say that none of us will be making another trip to any of this chain's restaurants again.on the plus side, they ran out of hash browns(!), so one of the plates came with an extra slice of bacon (just to keep this review balanced), as it was only a mostly (not all) bad experience.finally, one of the (5 in total) cookies that came out with the coffees looked as if someone had taken a bite out of it... it was explained that this was just the way it was, and that they had gone out of their way to find the best one that remained! we all just laughed in amazement!

I visited prior to a meeting at Stationers Hall and ordered food and wine with a colleague at 4.30 p.m. We had to wait 15 minutes for the drink because they had to go to the cellar for the red wine! It was just a glass of house merlot. The service generally was poor with one busy waitress and four guys just standing around talking. After waiting both food and wine were good and well priced.

It was just terrible, no service, very expensive and the food was not great. I had family visiting London, so we decided to stop for lunch and I think pret a manger next door would have been better.

we went for the comedy night last night, in a room off the main bar. empty when we got there, which was good as could catch up and got the sofa's. service was good, cocktails lovely and white wine gorgeous. prices as expected in the city.we had a couple of platters of food, veggie and meat, both lovely but not nearly enough for the price. the comedy act's were OK but nothing special. the compare was OK but not the best. everyone's taste of comedy is obviously different and I presume each week is different. The £10 charge was faireat before you goI would go again but a happy hour would be nice!

Went here today. On the face of it, it looks bustling and inviting. Inside the chairs are tired and patchy, tables wobble and the decor looks in need of a facelift. Even the toilets were falling to bits. The service was terribly slow, food did taste good, but they overcharged me £10 for drinks I didn't order, and seemed to know which drinks when I queried the bill. If you want a cheeky beer after work and work in that area, it's okay for that. Atmosphere is all wrong for a meal though, and if you sit on the RHS of the restaurant there's a racket from kitchens and bar as prople throw trays and plates around. (Not really, but it's very noisy round that side). So all in all, I'll not likely be back, but if I do, I'll check my bill!

Visited at lunchtime today.Choice of good was extensive.Service was very attentive with the service charge automatically added to the bill only minimal.food arrived promptly. The crab cake special sounded very tempting & looked great.portion was two and a good size. Food wasn't hot but as it was warm day we weren't too bothered. Only ate one and a bit as the second crab cake had bits of shell in it & I was concerned about my teeth didnt bother to complain as time was short. Went back to the office & a few hour later tummy started to rumble.long story short & to spare you the detail ive spent the evening in the bathroom with my friend immodium for relief. For the avoidance of doubt since lunch was the only thing I ate the probability of the cause being the ' special' is high at least in my mind. Beware.

On first appearances everything looks good, nice decoration, clean etc. Lets get to ordering, staff unaware of their own brands! Two medium glasses of wine cost £14, I was not even offered the bottle at an additional £5.On this particular visit we decided to sit outside. Had to search for the cleanest empty table then swap chairs as I nearly fell of a very unstable chair. Whilst mid conversation a waitress came and decided it was an good idea to clean our table whilst we were seated at it, leaning across us.The location is great but this bar has no personality and extortionate prices. I'm guessing this is fine if you're a flashy business executive

For the uninitiated, Corney and Barrow is a chain of bars vin the City of London that is very popular and well known with the local City workers. The Paternoster Square branch is pretty standard fair for the chain - very smart interiors, a good selection of drinks, average bar food at restaurant prices, and rubbish service. I have been hundreds of times to this C&B and its sister bars, mainly because they are well known so people often arrange to meet at them. Definitely not recommended as a place to make a specific journey for, however if you happen to be passing by you could do worse than stop in for a drink. In nice weather there is outside seating looking onto to Paternoster Square, which makes a change as not enough pubs and bars in the City have outside space.

Part of the C&B chain this is a reliable standby for lunch or early evening. The food, wine and service are all serviceable. During the summer the seats outside afford a great view of Paternoster Square.

Nice relaxed atmosphere but expect to pay top prices. £14.25 for 1 pint of Lager and 1 glass of wine. This includes a 10% service charge for drinks to be brought to your table. Stand at the bar to avoid this.

Went here for drinks and ordered some appetizers. Potato wedges were over cooked and there were a total of 6 (perhaps one potato's worth?) on the plate. Crab cakes were more like crab marbles and tasted like deep fried (hard to identify) sea mush. Beers on tap were standard.

This is the second year in a row that my company has held its Burns' Night celebrations in this restaurant (which i went down to London from Aberdeen for) and yet again it was simply flawless. Same as last year.I'm a total Burns' Night nut and go all over for these parties and as a Scot the irony is not lost on me that this place again has got it spot on! For a start the staff were so friendly (not so common in London in my experience) and efficient (ie remembering what drink i had ordered and bringing me another when my glass was empty without me needing to ask). There was about 60 of us there last night, and today, as we were all disecting the previous evening's shinanigans there was not one person who had a complaint about Corney-Barrow. Noit the food, venue or staff. Considering we were there from 5.30 - 1pm that's a real achievement for the staff there.I'm vegetarian and for the 'freaks' like me they provided a most delicious veggie haggis as the alternative to the real McCoy. The food was simply devine. Good effort indeed. With a group of our size we inevitably became a little rowdy in the function suite and they all took it in great spirit and helpfulness (ie finding coats etc). So, thanks again for another great Burns' Night folks!

London is expensive but this bar has no redeeming features and is overly expensive, Much higher prices than other local bars. However, I was there for a Christmas party and food had been ordered. It was really good, plates of fish and chips etc were hot and tasty.Bar staff were not as attentive as you would want them to be but it was a particularly busy evening so don't expect good service on a busy day.

This was my first visit and I was a guest at a small Christmas lunch party.I was impressed at the attentive service of drinks whilst we arrived and settled down. As the place got busier, the attentive service dropped off and we had to wave to get attention, mostly because the staff were not looking around whilst going to and from other tables. Overall the food was quite good and we appreciated not being rushed. It would have been nice to have some bread. Overall reasonable value and probably better than I'd anticpated.

Super café on New Bond Street. Much valued fixture when I sojourn at Claridges. Excellent chocolates and little gift packages, and great coffee, much better than all the chains. Clean and fresh, and jolly staff. I have seen other branches in Brussels, so Belgian really.

Terrible service, I was even asked by one of your members of staff “do you have enough money”, the audacity! I don’t think this is something my wife and I should ever want to hear when trying to relax after enjoying a meal, DISGRACEFUL. On a positive note the food was nice, great flavour and great presentation, highly recommend them chunky chips (very filling). I would recommend but doubt that any future customers would like to be asked if they have enough money at the end of their meal lol.
