We called in for a drink one afternoon. The place was almost empty, as indeed it seems to be the majority of the time. The place is well furnished and roomy but lacks atmosphere. Not for me.

Exceptional value three courses during the early bird offer. The soup of the day was the same on each of three days. The staff were attentive but the head chef needs to keep his eye on what's going out. One main course had a missing component but wasn't worth complaining about as the dish as a whole was good to taste and look at. I would eat again when I next visit. So much potential here.

after going there four times over two months, very disappointed to see the menu hasn't changed on a sunday and because I prefer to eat fish or vegetarian it was the same each time in the end I asked for something different and they complied however it was basically pasta and sauce. Also the disabled toilet is fine bit of a trek but the lift is a nightmare can get in if someone lifts it around so the door shuts or you force it yourself risking damaging the chair, good point always availability staff friendly, piano player is a source of conversation.

The restaurant and bar are part of the Dragon hotel and located on the first floor. Service was friendly and the dishes don't take long to arrive (though we went on a quiet Tuesday). We used the set price early bird menu, which has plenty of variety and offers a free dessert. The food quality was really good and very reasonably priced. There a decent selection of reasonably priced wines too though our Chardonnay was warm, not chilled. Small quibble though, we had an enjoyable evening.

Usually find hotel food to be rather lacking in quality and overpriced, and will opt to 'eat out' if the option is there, however on a recent stay at the MacDonald Dragon Hotel we took the 'lazy' option of the 3 course table d'hote menu, and arrived before 7:30, meaning that our three courses cost just under £20 per head. Our wine was £16/bottle. We were not disappointed - my starter (Perl Las Panna Cotta) was delicious and the chef had shown some skill in making it. It was my food highlight of the weekend. My main course (fish) was well cooked and tasty, although would have benefited from some additional veg (just a few peas in with crushed new potatoes). Thoroughly enjoyed my dessert of autumn fruit bread and butter pudding. The service was attentive, we were made to feel welcome, and the restaurant was reasonably quiet but not lacking in atmosphere.

Celebrated a birthday of a friend here a few days ago. booked for 7pm, in time to get the Early Bird offer of 3 courses for £19.99. Delicious starter, - Pate with toasted brioche slice and salad garnish. Mains for me was really disappointing. I'd ordered the Belly Pork, which can be really tender and moist. Could be, but it wasn't. Meat portion was small, 2 triangles just a tad bigger than a cheese triangle and 1.5 inches deep. Now we all know belly pork is a cheap cut of meat, so this was measly. My friend chose the steak and had a decent sized portion, and we were both on the special menu! My dessert was fab! Ice cream and sorbets! YUMMY!! plenty of it too! I will warn you, one friend ordered a total of 3 large pinot grigot glasses of wine which came to almost the same price as the meal! My bottle of locally produced ale was £4.95, and by the time the waitress brought it up from the bar downstairs, the yeast sediment had been disturbed and it poured cloudy! We know we'd booked it on a Wednesday, and expected it to be quiet, but there were only 5 other people there! Even the piano was quiet!!

It was late Friday afternoon when we decided to take my parents who were visiting out for dinner. We called around 5 restaurants that we've previously visited and really enjoyed only to find they were all fully booked so I turned to tripadvisor to look for suggestions of other local restaurants that reviewers consider worth a try. We called the first one and again it was booked so next was the Piano restaurant at a The Dragon Hotel, I had a quick look at the website and called..finally we had found somewhere with an available table. We arrived at the restaurant to find only one other party there and a very loud pianist...we were greeted by the very bubbly and friendly Becca (who was one of 3 waitresses who would serve us) and were given the choice of where we would like to sit. We were given menus and our drinks order was taken. Three of us chose from the table d'hôte menu and the other one from the a la carte menu, when the food arrived we were not disappointed it was all absolutely gorgeous! Asparagus with poached duck egg for 2 starters and prawn and salmon for the other, this was followed by main courses of a gorgeous twice cooked belly pork, grilled salmon, a Dragon burger and a tikka coated chicken breast...all were boiling hot and well presented. We asked if we could wait a while before having desserts. By this time the restaurant had started to fill up and the we had discovered that the pianist was just a teenager, he was very good but it was so loud that we felt it made people talk louder and louder so we were glad when he had a break and background music was on in his place. After a short break we were ready for our desserts, 2 sticky toffee puddings with caramel sauce, a chocolate bread and butter pudding with creme anglaise and the best welsh cheese board we have ever seen. When it came to paying we were even more pleased we'd decided on here...because we'd arrived before 7.30pm there was a special offer of 3 courses for £19.95, ...so the total bill for 4 of us with soft drinks and a bottle of wine was £100 which we all felt was excellent value for money, it was also one of the best hotel restaurant meals we've had in a very long time. We would definitely visit again and we would recommend anyone takes trying here, the only thing we would suggest is that the pianist was a little lighter with his playing to try and reduce the volume.

My husband and I went to the piano bar this evening. The food was beautiful we could not fault it. We had the three course menu, I am very fussy when it comes to steak, but it was perfect. The dessert was a little disappointing, but it was good. (The peanut butter cheesecake) We went with a Wave voucher, but at no time did we feel the service was less adequate due to this. The waiter was professional and friendly and made the evening even more special, also the waitress that served us was really friendly. The atmosphere was good despite the fact it was quite empty there. We would definitely recommend going and we will be going back. Maybe even to stay a night at the hotel. Thank you for a lovely evening........

No pianist as advertised. Waiting staff very attentive and large food portions. My daughter and I were unable to finish two courses. No idea how anyone could eat three....we ordered both steaks medium rare, we got one medium and medium/well done. What upset me most though was that as the restaurant takes last orders at 9.00pm, the staff immediately started to remove all glasses from tables so it was hard for us to have a conversation due to the very loud clinking of glasses. That episode was then followed by the loud clatter of coffee cups as it became clear they were setting the entire restaurant up for breakfast.... When I complained that staff were being disrespectful to diners as we were only half way through our meal, the manager was very appologetic, comped our drinks and told staff to put a hold on laying out breakfast tables. 20 minutes later they started again. Would I recommend this restaurant? Maybe if you go at 6.30 to 7.00pm. Just don't turn up at 7.30 to 8.00pm or later as the dining experience is ruined by the noise of staff setting up for breakfast.

My nusband and I visitied the restaurant on 12 June. We chose two courses each, I had the asparagus followed by the tandori spiced chicken breast with noodles and my husband had the pate followed by the burger. All dishes arrived and presented well, however, when we tasted them there was no seasoning at all. The main courses were similar. My chicken dish was like having an unseasoned chicken piece on a dish of supernoodles, I think supernoodles would have had a better flavour. The burger dish was also tasteless. I think the chef really needs to look at his herbs, spices and seasoning. I covered my dish with salt and pepper just to get a little flavour. This was very very disappointing and I'm afraid I shall never ever visit the restaurant again. They really do need to sort out their menus and seasoning or change the chef!

Oh dear, pitiful hotel, even more pitiful restaurant. We decided to stay and eat in the hotel restaurant rather than venture out into Swansea as we seemed to be in a particular bad area of the city (I'm not sure if there is a good area). We only stayed in Swansea as we were visiting a nearby village. The menu to be fair looked ok and was a 3 course fixed price. The restaurant had a very young pianist who for his age seemed to be good but I'm afraid we were subjected to a number of bum notes and 'interesting' timing. Still it helped pass the time playing guess the tune. We both opted for the duck rillette with smoked duck. The two slithers of smoked duck were nice. The rillette looked like a wedge of overcooked stuffing and had obviously been put in a microwave as it had bits that were very hot and some bits that were cold. Rillette should be served at room temperature. Next came the real ordeal. We both opted for the gourmet burger with caramelized onions served with frozen chips. The onions, which looked as though they had been stewed in oil for several days showed no sign of caramelisation and were sat in a slick of oil. The burger, which was both dry and tasteless plonked on top of it. By this time I really didnt want to endure any more of their offerings but hubby, having a very sweet tooth, decided to soldier on and have both his and my dessert. Now in all our years together I can count on one hand how many times he has left a sweet or pudding but he did give up. I'm afraid I can't recommend, on anything, in this unloved, uncared for hotel and restaurant.

We were quickly seated and we explained we had a Wave voucher, which was taken off us.After perusing the menu I asked the waiter if we were allowed to order the offer of 3 courses for the price of 2 on the voucher, as it was only 6.30 and the offer was up to 7.30. He replied 'yes'.Hubby and I enjoyed a lovely meal. We both had the duck starter, then I had the pork main and hubby the sea bass. For deserts me the cheese and crackers and hubby chocolate bread and butter pudding. Both good. Then came the bill and we had been charged for the desserts. I explained to the waiter that I'd asked if we were entitled to the offer to her colleague and he had said 'yes'.The waiter then agreed to remove the cost of the deserts. The original waiter then came to the table saying he didn't know we were on a voucher. What a load of rubbish! If we hadn't been on a voucher, why would we have asked?? He was obvious covering his backside. If it hadn't been for this embarrassing incident I'd have given this restaurant 5 stars but it had left an embarrassing sour taste in our mouths.

This is the third time I've come here for Xmas dinner (the previous twice being five years ago).Got to say, very underwhelmed. Lovely starter (soup) and the Christmas pud was nice too.The mains, however, were not dissimilar to what you'd get in a Wetherspoons. The food was luke warm and the plate had not been warmed (this is surely a basic you'd expect in a 4* hotel!)Only had three slices of carrot, no peas, cold broccoli, and tepid watery gravy. Further to this, the crackers we had were very poor quality - the majority of our group had hats which disintegrated upon opening. On the plus side, the room we were in was very pleasant. Staff were pleasant too. The fact that this was the only place available for our Christmas dinner says its own story - there are far nicer places in Swansea to have a good hearty dinner.

I visited on Wednesday 1st October lunchtime with 2 friends. Only one table was occupied when we arrived but it took several minutes before a waitress approached us. We ordered drink, the waitress returned with them and offered some bread. We all selected brown bread but there were only 2 slices available and the waitress went away promising to bring some more brown bread which never arrived. Our order was taken and again, after a longish wait, the 2 starters arrived. Mine was acceptable (although pancetta rubbery) but my friend's halloumi and bruschetta was burnt underneath. Our mains arrived again after some time but the previous course plates hadn't been cleared which seemed to surprise the waitress! My course of lamb breast on chive and spring onion mash was barely lukewarm and had obviously spent too much time waiting on the pass. The mash was more of a puree. My friend had ordered the (overcooked and lukewarm) loin of cod wrapped in procsciuttto which couldn't be cut with a knife. After much effort, we attracted the attention of a waitress and voiced our concerns. She went away and returned after another too long wait and asked if we wanted to order anything else! (During this period, the third friend was tucking into her scampi and chips which she said was hot - think it might have come from Iceland!).Initially we were offered 20% of our meal which we both found totally unacceptable. We paid for our starters and left to seek somewhere else to eat as we were both hungry. The service was indifferent at best and the food extremely poor.I have previously eaten at the Brasserie and been satisfied but I will certainly never dine here again.

Booked the hotel for 5 nights was not impressed. Explained I needed a wheelchair accessible room for my 15 year old son. The room was not large enough to get the chair through the door so we didn't use it we managed with his prosthetic leg.First day went down for lunch was left waiting for nearly 10mins as the waiter was on the phone but the other waitress was stood chatting in the kitchen. Had to ask for a child's menu for my 9 year old daughter. Asked if they did jacket potatoes was told no they did chips which was very surprised at. So had chicken and chips and the chips were frozen ones which were 1/2 cooked. For the price I expected fresh chips they did take 20% off the bill for this but was disappointing as this was supposed to be a restaurant of a high standard. When we came back from the athletics it was late so we had to go to the restaurant again. The meal was exceptionally average. I have severe allergies to both leeks and onions and they were unable to deal with this. We didn't use the restaurant again. On the 3rd day we pre-ordered breakfast went to the restaurant (its apparently different to the brasserie) went down at 9.20am hadn't realised it closed at 9.30am. Went in and had to ask for a table from the members of staff sat down gossiping. Then had to ask how their breakfast worked to be told the hots that way the continental is over there. Was putting our food out when the waitress came over and told us it was closing so if we wanted something from the top get it now.Was not offered a cup of tea and felt exceptionally hurried to leave. When I asked to pay the bill was told it was going on the room. I do not like this I like to pay as I go especially with having two children with me it helps to budget. The room was as said before was exceptionally small. The bathroom was very dirty and had to clean before I could use had mold in the corner of the shower. The bedding was supposed to be changed every 2nd day ours wasn't changed at all.The final annoyance was returning to the hotel on the Friday evening to find that a large jeep parked in the disabled bay without a blue badge. I informed the receptionist about this and said she would sort it out when we left there the following morning jeep still there.Hotel really needs updating the communal areas look fantastic but the rooms are tired and dated. They also need space in the room for drawers staying for 5 nights and still having to keep 1/2 of our clothes in suitcases was exceptionally frustrating. When checking out was not asked if enjoyed our stay just gave the bill and was a bit irked when I queried a few things. I had after paying informed them of my grievances and did (stupidly I now know) expected a call from either the manager or a senior member of staff. Obviously they don't like repeat custom.Would I go back to this hotel not a chance.

This is a tired hotel. The car park is tiny and people appear to leave their cars parked anywhere ignoring yellow chevrons and blocking others in. Staff were totally indifferent to this and couldn't have been less helpful. The rear entrance was filthy - we picked our way through litter and cigarette ends. Not a welcoming site to be greeted with.On checking in the receptionist was incredulous that we had booked via booking.com for the rate we had. She virtually accused us of making the price up and we had to prove our reservation and price on our iPad. Our superior double room was laughably tiny. It had only been made up for one guest and we had to request further supplies and towels. It was also dirty with plasters from the previous guest left on the floor. breakfast was ok although our waiter said that the room rate only included one breakfast! It's a shame because the decor and ambience are ok - it just feels like the staff and the whole place are tired and complacent.

Stayed on a business trip for one night. Staff have been very nice and helpful which is great. Hotel looks a bit tired with the bathrooms in particular needing a re-fit, there is some black mould on the sealant and the room is tiny for a double which I didn't expect. Breakfast looks good, freshly made (not a buffet for hot food which I hate). Car parking is an issue, hotel car park is tiny, and NCP car park closes early so if you arrive late you have to try and find a place on the road. Overall, good but not brilliant. Would I stay here again? Yes, but I'm going to try and find something better next time.

The staff were lovely and trying very hard to get things right. Very tasting starter of ham and chicken terrine, the best I've had in Swansea restaurants for a while actually. The carvery was extensive and the meat delicious and very well cooked. I liked the fact that the veg was replenished frequently and didn't look as if had sat there for hours. Good choice of deserts and beautifully presented. Mother in law had the best looking profiteroles I have seen in a long while. In all fairness we felt like we had a quality meal here at the dragon. We booked a table at the restaurant on the ground floor. This is a large room which can be extremely noisy - but in our case it was a good thing - because otherwise there would not have been any atmosphere. There was not any heating in the restaurant and the food was very mediocre. Staff were pleasant and polite though. With an unfinished bottle of wine we asked to go into somewhere quieter and were directed to the lounge on the first floor left. A lovely appointed room with several leather settees and chairs, but again very cold and unwelcome without any heating. Several people (hotel guests) I assumed looked in but all declined and went to their rooms. It would not surprise me if eventually this hotel closes because of the lack of guests and I believe it is probably at the wrong end of town as there was very little traffic or pedestrians passing by.

After months of saving, our office headed to the The Dragon Hotel for our Christmas Office Party. Now at £35.00 a head we were expecting a decent night out . How wrong we were, we were astounded to be served a meal that in parts was inedible.A pate starter with burnt toast, great start,an hour wait till our next course, when the much anticipated turkey dinner with all the trimmings arrived. Never have I seen so many half eaten plates being returned to the kitchen, tasteless, bland, and totally unappetising, and that's being kind. Not sure what my Turkey was supposed to be but it certainly wasn't freshly prepared Turkey, it may well have surrendered, along with the stuffing balls that must have been previously used by the chinese olympic ping pong team, followed closely by the sprouts .By this time most of us were starving, surely the dessert would save the day. Guess what, it billed as a white torte extravaganza, however it was more like a cheesecake, again with a burnt tasting base.Never have I paid that amount of money for this quality of food in my life. Oh and to add insult to injury we found out later that some other parties there on the same night had paid ten pounds less than we had!!!Just because it's Christmas does that give these larger hotels the right to serve anything up ! It would appear so.The wine was overpriced and of poor quality, and all in all it felt we had been ripped off from start to finish. Please think carefully before wasting your hard earned cash on this fiasco, we certainly won't be returning. I did not have a dessert as was so full, but the menu gave good choices. The restaurant was only half full which is a shame, perhaps people think because it is a hotel then it will be expensive, but this is not the case as we often have Sunday roast dinner at our local pub - the meal at the piano bar was only 75 pence more expensive. Fish was ok but no bigger than the other ones in the heater unit, soggy chips were ok. This is the most expensive fish/chips/curry sauce /battered sausage I’ve ever had. Friendly staff but £26.40 was not worth the cost.

Parked here to walk to Three Cliffs Bay (£4, pay in the shop) and had planned to drive elsewhere for lunch but got back later than expected and decided to eat in the cafe instead. We each had the soup special (spiced chickpea) which was delicious (came with some white baguette slices) and half a toasted sandwich each (they allowed us to combine two from the menu which was great) - took a while to come but was very good and came with some salad leaves/coleslaw and a few crisps. Finished off with a lovely chocolate cannoli.

Nice meals not much to choose from on menu tho chips in a small basket and not many … over priced garlic bread £4:20 and onion rings £3:95 on sides they need keep up the game as In massive competition with other pubs around the area …. The dinning looks more like a cafe needs more love ❤️ lovely staff I would return but some family members won’t needs bigger plates for the larger eaters….
