Philp's Famous Pasties in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Used to be amazing, really tasty pasties. Now when we order them for delivery, the cheese pasties are just pure pepper. There's so much pepper in them that the inside is dark and all you can taste is pepper! It burns your mouth. There's no taste of cheese or anything now. Avoid them. Used to be great and now they're basically inedible. Maybe they're just hiding a lack of good ingredients and cheese with pepper so we don't notice. Complete waste of a lot of money!

We popped in here to pick up a couple of Pasties for our tea. We popped in mid afternoon and picked up a steak and cheese and a chicken pasty. We were surprised at how well they kept their heat and didn't need warming back up. Both felt quite heavy on the walk back home but this is because they are full with meat and a generous size. Both tasted amazing and a nice change to have flakey pastry instead of the normal shortcrust. Will definitely get out Pasties from here again.

What a very disappointing experience. Arrived just before lunch - ordered flaky steak pasties to take home. If I’m honest looking back now I can’t remember seeing them being taken from the oven, and they just seemed to be by the manager waiting to sell. Walking back to car I realised how cool they were…I should have gone back and asked for hot pasty’s . 10 min journey home, had to reheat. I had asked for flaky - these didn’t look like flaky. Not only that but they were absolutely tasteless, craggy and the meat had a very different texture to it. Not sure what happened today but never again

I ordered a gluten free pasty for lunch today and the pastry was awful, rubbery and slimy in its plastic bag. (I know it has to be wrapped like this to avoid cross contamination). Not much can be done about that, but I don't know where you buy them in from but please find another supplier. I always get a lovely gluten free pasty from Rowes in Falmouth and Sarah's Pasties in Looe where the gluten free pastry is top notch. Sorry to complain, your normal pasties are delicious, I used to eat them years ago and my husband still enjoys them, but please, stop these awful rubbery gluten-free things.

Visited Philps whilst on holiday in Hayle good quality tasty pasties & more, we would definitely recommend & visit again if we're in hayle.

Chicken pasties mainly potatoes and veg and onion little chicken, gluten free cheese pasty nice you can only buy them frozen. Beef pasty nice

We were in the standard pub over the road with my wife getting hungry so i poped over and asks if the did GF pasties, woman shouted hour and a half. I went back a little later and the girl on the till was great, she checked they had gf pasties, they did, paid for it, said i wanted it cooked she said over an hour ( as per the sign above the tills ) I said fine, she then asked the older woman i'd spoke to earlier and she barked, no ive got 400 pasties cooking, just rude, i felt sorry for the girl serving and this review is no reflection on her. So no pasty and had to watch my wife eat hers! Theres a Cornish Oven near the rugby club, i'll go there in future, they are better anyway.

Perfect Pasties are the order of the day here ans were the best we enjoyed on our holiday. The traditional Cornish was very good but the star was the steak and cheese. Well priced for the size and the taste. Also try the Saffron buns to takeaway.

Tried the vegan pasty, grey mush andmiles too much salt !! Please rethink and don’t just add extra salt in the absence of meat, some imagination and herbs needed

Had couple of original steak pasties thought they were overrated with a bit of an after taste about them. Nothing to write home about really

Grab a pasty and take it over to the seashore - a wonderful lunch with a great view!! We shared a large steak pasty and a couple of drinks, the perfect lunch.

We stopped at the Praaze - an - Beeble shop for take away pasties. Looked delicious, staff friendly and helpful, but sadly when we got home to eat them both ( 2 different types ) pasties were so salty we couldnt finish them. Such a shame as they looked delicious. Will not buy from Philps again.

We had traditional regularly steak pasty’s. They were very tasty and the pastry was crispy and seasoned very well. Probably one of the best pasty’s in Cornwall. However the lady who served us was almost shouting when we placed our order and gave us very little time to decide what we wanted. She was also barking orders at the other staff we have nicked named her the “Rottweiler”. Maybe she should re consider her life choices and change her job as customer relations isn’t really her thing

One word. EXCEPTIONAL Philips pasties were the nicest we had during our stay in Cornwall. If you want a good selectionn of fresh and tasty pasties, this is the place to go. They have several stores across the region.

Love everything I’ve ever had here. Visit every summer while on holiday in Hayle. I don’t care much for the other shops but this main one is great! Perfect flakey pastry on the pasties is fantastic! Also bought a cream cake they call an elephants foot - wow! Tasted amazing! Took me 2 days to eat! Shop is always busy through the summer but the staff are always great!

Tasty pasties to go! Delicious with high quality steak. There was a long queue but service was quick and we weren’t kept waiting long. We ate ours on the seats outside but the pasties were really hot so you could easily walk or drive to a more picturesque spot to eat your lunch without them getting cold!

Impressive looking shop and allegedly famous…so visiting while on holiday seemed like a must to try their pasties. Was served by a lady who was abrupt and rude. But I was not the only customer to feel this way. A man stopped his car in the car park to speak with me, he recognised her rudeness to me and advise that she had also been rude to him. He arrived just after the shop opened at 0730 to find that there were no pasties ready/cooked….for a pasty shop……really. Other staff loading up the various displays with cakes also seemed to have a rather downbeat demeanour. Not a happy place to be? Pasty itself. Nicely cooked, pastry was nice, not rock solid. Traditional steak filling was ok. Overall, not the worst pasty in the world, quite average. Will not return to this company!

We had bad experience. One of the staff treated us as if we dont understand a thing she was saying, she keeps repeating that we have to pay first and telling to our faces as if we dont know how to read! We felt discriminated because of the colour of our skin so we just have to walk out. Never going back there!

Their pasties are worth driving to Cornwall for! Really tasty pastry with perfectly seasoned filling. Plenty of size and flavour options. Simply, they are the best.

We called here several times after a walk on Porthkidney beach. We also called in at Iced on the quay which is part of Philp's. The cakes are unbelievable especially the cruffins with either biscoff or lemon. The pasties are really tasty. You have to give them a try.

And if you have it here, you won’t be disappointed! Beautiful pastry, stuffed with juicy peppery beef and gorgeous veggies. Yum!

Having tried a ‘Cornish pasty’ at The Lizard…. These ones are in a different league… so meaty, tasty and filling…. Will be ordering some by post once we go home

Never come Hayle without a few visits to taste the pasties, cakes and hopefully today the old fashion split rolls alway a must for a Cornish cream tea. No Matter what shop we go to , staff are alway very friendly and up for chat....

We had read very good reviews of Philps pasties and so decided we must try them out. We went and bought them (sadly no chicken ones left or sausage rolls!) but thoroughly enjoyed them. Not greasy like some we had before from a different pasty...

The best pasty ever chunks of tender meat which I prefer to mince, visited many many years ago and they taste just as good. We now live in Bude so when we're down Hayle we always call in. Would and have highly recommended.

Philps Famous pasties from Cornwall, are the best pasties :) I won't go anywhere else. The East Quay shop in Hayle has a lovely selection of other items on the shelves.. have a browse whilst inside.

We visit Hayle every year, Philips is always the first place we go. Definitely the best pasties around, the cocktail pasties are a brilliant idea for a little taste. Cheese pasties are fab! My partner dreams about them all year until our annual trip.

McFaddens in st just is a lot better the pasty’s we’re to dry and no meat at all I recommend mcfaddens though

Going by the queues I thought the pasties were going to be good. They are expensive. The pastry tastes of thin cardboard. If you like potato and seasoning there is plenty of it. The small mound of meat was chewy. So won't be going again.

The best pasties in Cornwall? Most locals think so, my husband agrees, but personally I find them hard work to eat as they are so heavy. (My favourites are Malcolm Barnecutt in mid-Cornwall, Wadebridge, Padstow etc.) Top 3 however, and highly recommended.

They make their pasties on the premises. They are delicious. There is a lot of choice but I prefer the traditional steak parties. Their saffron cake is just lovely slices and spread with butter. Free parking too.

Weren't sure if the reputation of these pasties would match up to the taste. Turns out they did! If you only have one pasty, we'd go for one of these. Good veggie/vegan option too.

Nowhere comes close to a Philps pasty! , they are great value and deliver by post when you find you are working on the other side of the world.

We called in several times during our visit and tried the different pasties available and all were lovely and fresh with plenty of filling. Not particularly cheap but I don't mind that when you pay for fresh tasty ingredients

Could not get to shop from our home in Cornwall to Hayle as normal due to lockdown.. so had home delivery service .... boy o boy proper handsome, we’ve missed a good local pasty..thank you for not letting us locals and the Kernow reputation down...
