Great place to come after a walk in the park, ideal location and great food. We were served by Grace who was very nice and recommended one of the pastries which was to say the least bites from heaven! Prices are quite high, but I guess it comes with the location, nevertheless we had a good time and will come back

This place is very expensive for what you get.The building itself is superb, the gate house to Bute park but the staff and particularly the management are abhorrent. We asked if our so called Welsh baked ham, which is wafer thin and not at all like it should be, could be without mustard. It was not served as asked. Respect the customer and don't adulterate our culture by calling a product Welsh when it is so poor.

After a walk in Bute Park on our weekend to Cardiff we saw this little place as we left to head back to town for dinner. We went in for a quick coffee and a cake and they were great. After finding out they also do afternoon tea we booked in for the next day. Upon arrival we were treated and given a loverly quiet table upstairs. The service was spot on and the food was great. Choosing your own selection of sandwich fillings and cakes was a pleasant surprise to us and we really enjoyed our visit. When we visit Cardiff again we will definitely be back.

When asked if I could use the disabled toilet, I was told I couldn’t use it unless I’ve got a doctor’s certificate. Me and my friend are both registered blind, with disabled keys which was explained. I even offered to show him my disabled parking badge. I’m personally unaware of anybody, including friends I know from the blind institute, that have got such a certificate. My friend and I were then forced to find another toilet to use, which is difficult for us with our eyesight. Unlike Pettigrew’s Tea Rooms, not one question was asked when another toilet facility was found.

Pettigrew's has been my weekly treat during lockdown. Such a beautiful place and the food and drinks are always top quality. Only just learned that Mr Pettigrew was the designer of Bute Park which has added to the magic. A beautifully baked scone, Welsh Lady strawberry jam and Rodda clotted cream with a lovely cup of tea would lift anyone's spirits!Thank you to everyone at Pettigrew's.

Headed to this place and so glad we did. We didn't book, it was a Tuesday afternoon and they managed to find us a table. Opted for the afternoon tea menu, great selection of sandwich fillings and you get to choose (unlike some places). The bread was lovely and fresh and the fillings were superb. Roast beef, apple chutney & brie and the cheese & tomato were what we decided on - all fantastic. The scone was one of the best I've had in a very long time. For the final course, cake! By then we were stuffed and had ours boxed up to take away and when we did get around to eating them, they were just as tastey as they looked.Friendly staff, clean tea room and will be going back.

We were entertaining American friends for the week and whilst in Cardiff they visited the tearooms whilst walking in the grounds of Bute Park. The tea rooms are small, however they are welcoming and pleasant. The staff were particularly nice and helpful. The selections of teas and coffees was admirable and as for the cakes 'no stone was unturned' in providing a lovely selection of locally cooked varieties. I saw someone eating and afternoon tea and it looked delicious. You certainly will be returning again.

Food was delicious. The service was warm, friendly, and genuinely so. So this place is really charming. It's not stuffy or pretentious. As a man, my wife was perfectly happy with the sandwiches and such and I was very happy with my ploughman's lunch. Tea was excellent and I happened to be there on the day they debuted their new beer made from leftover sourdough bread. If you like a Belgian farmhouse style beer, it's a light pale ale with a just a bit of that saison taste.

This was my third visit to Pettigrew tearooms for afternoon tea and I am sad to say the service has declined each time. The last time I visited was in August and the service was very poor. However, as the tearoom was busy and there was a larger group of of us, I thought it was a one off poor experience. The latest booking was for two people. It was a supposed to be a treat for my mum but unfortunately we were left feeling very frustrated with the lack of care and attention of staff. Despite making an advance booking, we had to wait over an hour to receive our drinks. We brought a bottle of Prosecco and despite paying the £5 corkage fee, we had to ask several times for glasses and and ice bucket and then had to open the bottle ourselves as the waiter didn’t offer. We decided to take our cakes with us so ordered them when we paid. Instead of cutting the cakes at the same time (which would have taken less than 2 minutes) we were told to wait in the gift shop. After a further 10 minute wait and watching staff in the kitchen area laughing and joking around, we had to ask if the cakes were ready. They weren’t, as the waitress had clearly forgotten. We had no apology for the delay. Sadly we will not be returning.

I have been to Pettigrew several times, to be honest I have lost count.. Normally everything is lovely, we pick Pettigrew due to the flexibility of the selection of your sandwiches and scones however this occasion was different, this was due to us being a larger party!! To anyone attending with a larger party (ours was 5) you are likely to have the chefs choice, which we did, this was advised after we reviewed and selected off the menu (which there was no need of given us if we had no choice of the selection) this was also not advised in the phone when booking and paying our deposit, this was a minor bump in the road and we were there for a nice get together and simply thought it was a lack of communication, which does happen.. The worst part of our trip was the service, having someone roll their eyes at you and make you feel generally uncomfortable is not pleasant.. I have to say not all the staff was like this, just our server.. we did leave our feedback to which they were very apologetic for.. To be honest I will not be going back in a hurry...

I wish to thank the tea room, the chef, and waiting staff for the experience my family and I recieved. Despite being a large, late, and dietary-challenging party, we received the upmost care and attention. The food was delicious and plentiful - and we got to take doggy bags home. I must say, the mango and vanilla cake is wonderful. I wish to bring special attention to your waitress Naomi who went above and beyond to look after us. Naomi had been taking calls weeks prior to the event to sort special arrangements for my sister who has a unique dietary requirement, of which she handled thoroughly and considerately. Throughout the meal every need and want was met with a smile, and she passionately expressed how much she enjoyed working at the tea rooms the last 9 months - and it was evident in her service. I wish I could make a more formal praise of Naomi to the tea rooms, but I was reassured by the members of staff that this would be suffice for the manager to be made aware. Graduation day is a wonderful day but it can be rather stressful organising a group of people, but as soon as I arrived, within minutes, I could relax. I cannot thank Pettigrew Tea Rooms enough. Thank you for helping create precious memories. I look forward to returning in the future for a coffee to go or another joyous event.

Judging from the lovely crockery, you’d expect a dainty high tea (or even dread a case of “style over substance”). Luckily, you’d be wrong: the sandwiches - I selected cheddar & tomato and salmon & cream cheese from the varied menu - have a rustic look, but are taste. The cheddar especially packed a lot of flavour, but the warm fluffy scone was the highlight. If I were to nitpick, I’s suggest it could probably do with a bit more jam (in contrast with the otherwise very generous servings). Staff suggest you pick out your choice of cake once you’ve finished the sandwiches and scone, and are obviously used to people having their cakes as takeaway. I had to admit defeat as well. Even though I had the high tea as a substitute for a late lunch, there was no way I could polish it all off and I ended up having the carrot cake for breakfast the next day. It was lovely, but I do understand where previous reviewers are coming from regarding the lack of ingenuity in the assortiment of cakes. However, if you want a very decent value for money high tea, good flavours and not too much frills, then this is the place for you.

I absolutely loved Pettigrews Tea Rooms when it first opened. However, these last couple of years I feel it has gone downhill. The cakes are still good but not particularly interesting. The rest of the food is very much bread based. There are no salads at all or anything that isn't inside bread of part of a bread mean. I feel there should be a much better selection of food. Today I went with my daughter. She had a plain cheese sandwich and I had mackerel pate. The portion of pate was minuscule and was served with bread on the side. It tasted ok. We had a pot of ordinary tea for two and the bill was £21.00 I think this is far too high. Especially as my pate couldn't have weighed more than an ounce if that.

So I wanted to write about this as my recent experience dealing with the staff here was exceptional. Me and my partner had a Valentine’s Day booking, however the night before the booking we spent at A&E; (all fine now thankfully) and had quite a traumatic experience and didn’t get back until 4am and our booking was for midday. I called Pettigrew and asked if we could move it back because we would never make midday which they obliged but then when it became apparent we wouldn’t be making the pushed back booking (still feeling the affects of the A&E; visit) I called again to apologise and cancel the booking. The staff where so understanding and absolutely fine with it and didn’t charge us or anything. I just found this exceptional. We have booked to go again but if their afternoon tea is half as good as their customer service it will be excellent. Thank you :-)

Petite but very clean and tidy. We were a party of 9 including 2 wheelchairs and our booking was accommodated well. We were very well attended to by numerous very polite and happy staff members who were only too willing to help. Food was very generous and very tasty. Scones were sublime. As for the cake, well there are no words. It was lovely! Would definitely recommend but would say to prebook to avoid disappointment. Definitely want to return.

We ended a lovely walk/jog/cycle ride through the beautiful bute park with lunch and cake at the tea rooms. We were very lucky to get a table, lots of people who came after us were not able to. My mum in a wheelchair was with us and staff couldnt be more accommodating. We mainly had sandwiches, they come on bread from the shops own bakery with homemade coleslaw and some crisps. All delicious. My mum tried the special which was jacket potato with vegan chilli, not her usual choice but she enjoyed. The cakes are amazing our choices were orange & almond, bara brith (traditional welsh tea bread), scones and lemon drizzle. Everything served on vintage tea plates/cup. Very nice staff who couldnt be more helpful.

My wife Sandra and me were looking to have a coffee with my sister Pam and decided Afternoon Tea somewhere would be ideal. Searching through the internet Pettigrews came up. Sandra had been there about 9 years ago with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday.

I went here for the first time and had my very first afternoon tea with two friends and i absolutely loved it! The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, also very helpful when it came to explaining about the afternoon tea. The food was delicious, especially the scones and you get a lot for your money. The place itself is small but clean and very well spaced out.

Thank you Pettigrew! You are wonderful! My friends and I had a lovely afternoon yesterday for a Christmas High Tea. Two of us suffer with allergies - one to dairy and the other to gluten. You accommodated both of us with just as many options as everyone else at the table. It was one of the best experiences I have had with "eating out". A lot of restaurants and pubs could learn a thing or two from you! Dairy free scones, cakes, sandwiches, mine pies and milk(s)!!!! Thank you :)

Visited this tea rooms for afternoon tea whilst shopping in Cardiff. A very charming and comfortable tea rooms. The tea rooms are very small with only 4 maybe 5 tables but lovely and cosy. The food was delicious and very well presented. We couldn't actually finish our food so the tea rooms boxed up what we couldn't eat for us to take home. Such a lovely place I would definitely visit again.

A superb flawless tea. The setting is very quaint and traditional. The portions are very very generous. It is great value and to top it all the service is 10/10. Georgina really threw it out of the park. They really made my partners 37 birthday one to remember.

I love this place so much! It's in a great location so I like to stop sometimes on my way to the centre. If it's a nice day I love to sit outside and enjoy the view of the park, but inside it's just as lovely. Food is great, they have a nice selection of teas and cakes even if I do prefer a savoury breakfast, and the staff is very friendly. Lovely!

I happened upon this by accident as I was wondering around the streets of Cardiff like an idiot savant in the closing days of the month of September 2018.. I was a student at the Welsh School of Architecture 20 years previously and was reacquainting myself with the city.

A booking for 4 had been made following our visit to take the 'Pobol y Cwm ' set tour. We were greeted on our arrival snd taken to our table. We were given time to peruse the menu and ordered a bottle of delicious house wine. We all gave our choices from the menu and we were waited on and looked after very well. The food was delicious and will definitely return.

I recently visited this café which not only served a variety of breakfast and brunch options but also offered what I can confidently say was the best coffee I had during my time in Cardiff. I opted for a black Americano, but it was clear they took their coffee seriously, with an evident dedication to quality that shone through in every sip. The beans were expertly brewed, resulting in a rich, well-balanced flavour profile that highlighted the nuances of the coffee without being overshadowed by bitterness. It’s refreshing to find a place that genuinely cares about the craft of coffee-making. The atmosphere of the café complemented the experience beautifully. With its vintage chairs, wall-mounted artwork that added an artistic touch, and an overall relaxed décor, the space had a distinct hipster vibe that made it inviting. It’s the perfect setting for enjoying a good coffee, whether you’re looking to engage in conversation with friends or simply unwind with a book. If you’re in Cardiff and searching for a place that values quality coffee in a charming environment, this café is definitely worth a visit.
