Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 3/5 | Value for money: 5/5 The Bell pub is a true local (possibly because it is the only pub) in the quaint, idyllic village of Avening, which dates back to 1080, with its friendly residents, narrow lanes and classic Gloucestershire stoned houses. The Little Indian within The Bell is well worth the journey if you’re staying in a nearby town. The food is exceptional and the value for money is unparalleled. Of course we couldn’t have an Indian without starting our meal with some papadums (how they spell it) which came with four glorious condiments - we even asked for more atcha as it was so scrumptious. I ordered the Garlic Prawn Mow as a starter. It was so good that I ordered another Naan bread just to soak up the remaining sauce. Our mains were the Lamb Pasanda with rice and the Lamb Garlic Tikka Delight with coriander and garlic Naan. Both of these curries were tomato based and mild. I personally felt the rice paired better with the mains. Next time I visit an Indian I will definitely order their pasanda as I was blown away by the rich, creamy and vibrancy of the flavours! It was one of the best curries I have ever had and all the food was very affordable. They offer takeaways too which is handy. Ahmed, our server, and the rest of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The other patrons also seemed quite willing to have a natter with you.

Authentic Indian food is served at this excellent village pub. Good beers, welcoming atmosphere, and an extensive menu of great dishes at reasonable prices. It compares very favourably with other Indian restaurants in the area, and we shall be more than happy to make a return visit. Food is fresh prepared, and take away option is available.

Fantastic place. Great friendly fast service. There was a great atmosphere in this Indian restaurant in a pub. The place had a lovely energy. We hadn’t booked but they found us a table straight away and the food was fantastic. The onion bhajees were perfect. Staff were really accommodating to us as strangers. Recommend.

The pub was recommended to us by the people in the place were were staying who said that the pub did Indian food. However we were not expecting a full menu. We did reserve a table but it wasn’t necessary on a Tuesday night although there was a steady stream of people. The restaurant forms part of the pub and has its own seating area although you can sit anywhere. The food was tasty and freshly cooked and was served quickly and at a reasonable cost. The pub itself is a lovely village pub with few frills and gimmicks which we liked. Happy to fully recommend this.

My husband and I ate here a couple of weeks ago and were very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the food was! It is a traditional pub with a lovely log fire, yet serves amazing Indian food too. We had a lovely evening and felt it was very good value for money. We look forward to a return visit when we are next in the area.

Have been looking for good Indian food around us for a while and have been generally underwhelmed until now. The Bell is 15 minutes drive away from us but can see why it is so popular. Easy to order from a broad based menu. All the food we had was well cooked and tasty, and good portion sizes for the money. They currently have timed collection slots and a one way system in the pub so safe and efficient. Highly recommended.

The meal we had was absolutely tasteless, just sugar no spices. Staff seen plates left almost full, but nobody bother to ask about it. Well overpriced. Do not recommend! This is genuine opinion. MM

I had takeaway from here before and raved about it for ages. Went again yesterday to eat in and the food was just as good as before, with the added bonus of a really friendly, attentive and accommodating waiter and a nice beer. Will definitely visit again and recommend to everyone.

Recent visit here and they have tried really hard to work with the covid-19 regulations. Food itself was great. Starters a bit dry, but on the whole greet curry, great service and good value for money. Nice mix of village Inn and good curry menu.

We had a takeaway from here last night - delicious! It was the best Indian we have had in the Stroud area. Lovely flavours and good quality food.

I went here recently with some friends for a birthday meal and a few pints of cider. The Indian food was fantastic. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the Dunkerton's cider very quaffable. If only every village had a pub as brilliant The Bell.

After being turned away from other pub in the village we were so glad to find The Bell, staff and locals were very welcoming and friendly, whilst there were no tables available we had a fabulous Indian takeaway and a couple cheeky drinks!

Not a pub. An Indian with a pub attached, or vice versa. Take your pick. I've no doubt the food is good as there were many many punters for both eat in and take away. I'm just saying, this isn't really a pub. I had my pint and walked up the road to a genuine pub on the corner.

Heard so many good reviews decided to visit with friends. Very busy pub bar very “local” Very welcoming in bar and in the annex for the Indian extensive menu enjoyed by all 4 of us. Food could have been hotter in temperature and also spice. Overall good experience and value for money for an Indian and few beers. Staff very attentive. Decor etc a little tired.

Comimos aquí el viernes por la noche en una recomendación. Básicamente es la mitad de un pub del pueblo y la otra mitad es un restaurante indio.El lugar estaba muy ocupado pero se las arreglaron para acomodarnos. La comida era deliciosa y una amplia variedad de menú ya un precio razonable. Últimamente he tenido algunos curries realmente malos y me complace decir que no fue uno de ellos.No necesariamente me apresuraría a regresar por más, pero si estás en el área y quieres un curry, este lugar no te decepcionará.

Had very good food from here tonight. It was well cooked and tasted fresh. The food was cooked promptly and we were dealt with efficiently by the friendly staff. We will return.

Fui a la campana en Avening para ver el fútbol Man Utd v Ajax, una amable del personal del bar, me hicieron sentir bienvenido.Las cervezas están bien cuidados, que tenía una pinta preciosa ale Otter. Estábamos lejos de nuestra caravana con amigos para el fin de semana en Minchinhampton cerca y decidimos comer el domingo estaba en orden. Habiendo sido para una cerveza el día antes de que nos reservamos para comer el domingo. Buena decisión.Tuve el bistec con patatas fritas y flan de riñón y verduras. Las señoras hacían el asado. Ambos eran excelente relación calidad-precio, bien cocinada y presentada y pasamos un buen rato.La cerveza estaba bien y bien atendidos. Si estamos en el área de nuevo estaremos sin duda volveremos.

Comimos allí la última noche, ya que cerca de vacaciones. Hombre bar muy amable que conversó con todos nosotros. Una muy buena variedad en el menú. Dos de nosotros fuimos sobresaliente y los otros dos fuimos para los cazadores de pollo. A ninguno de nosotros nos decepcionó cuando la comida llegaba. Deliciosa comida casera y abundante. Ninguno de nosotros podría manejar pudding. Si nos quedáramos aquí más nos gustaría volver otra vez.

This is a perfect Pub / restaurant. Lovely location,very nice owners and staff who make you feel welcome. We've called in on passing regularly for Sunday lunch,the food is well presented,freshly cooked, hot and plentyfull and exceptional value.Would highly recommend, you'll not find better,.

Stopped by with some work colleagues recently. Pub was very quiet at lunchtime, but we received a warm welcome and the food was of a high quality. All in all, did the job, but maybe a little too peaceful.

Nunca se sabe bastante qué recepción recibirá cuando entras en un pub Village pero nos recibió una muy cálida bienvenida y nos hicieron sentir como en casa. El menú es principalmente crêpes salados, aunque hay algunas alternativas. El que escogí era delicioso y no tan pesada como pensé que iba a ser. Si estás hambriento, quizás quieras pedir una parte de patatas, pero para mí fue perfecto.

Always impressed by the seasonal food, very tasty. Been back many times. Friendly service with beer on draft.
