Peter's Yard in Edinburgh, City of

I have been coming to this cafe for years and I’m now at the point where I won’t be back. I am so tired of the rudeness that I encounter every time I go. It would be bad no matter what the prices but if I’m spending 4.50 for a sandwich I expect at least a smile and a hello, or heaven forbid a thank you. I rarely get eye contact, there is never a smile, the servers are consistently on their phone or talking to each other ignoring customers. One day I just gave up and walked out because I couldn’t get served. There is an express soderburg around the corner and the gentleman in there displays EXCELLENT customer service. He is always polite and welcoming and as a result I tend to spend more money with him. The service on in the meadows is utterly appalling as a result I won’t be back to any. There is a coffee shop that has just opened up next door so I’ll save my money for them.

We are regular users here because we are local. Today the service and attitude of staff left a lot to be desired. We wanted to do a simple half and half with a pizza. I don’t think this is a difficult request to fulfill and we have never had an issues with this before, at this cafe or anywhere else. The waitress said she would not ask the chef to fulfil this request because it had been a difficult day as the festival is on . You would’ve thought we asked for something major . Then the water brought to the table tasted disgusting, like it was dishwater there was an aroma of food about it . Needless to say we did not stay and eat. I refuse to give my money to an establishment that does not display care towards its customers needs / requests and that is how I felt we were being treated. There are many places to eat in Edinburgh, you’d think this company would be a bit more customer focused. I understand that the festival brings about lots of custom, but I don’t understand why regular customers should be treated poorly because the tourists are here spending their money and that is how it felt. The tourists will go home in a few weeks then who will keep these places funded ?? !!

Tiny, overpriced coffee. I had to remind the service staff to make it as well. There was no queue, but they were having a nice chat and weren’t interested in customer service.

Gustosissimi dolci (scones) e brioches del Nord Europa, vicino all'Università di Edimburgo. Ci sono stata anche per pranzo e ho mangiato un ottimo piatto unico con salmone, avocado, uovo e pane integrale. Buon rapporto qualità prezzo.

Having paid £25 for one coffee, 2 sandwiches and a desert, I’d have at least expected the staff to get the order right, instead of flat white I got a long black? No apology, the waiter just dropped it and left, another one came with the correct coffee, asked if I have ordered a flat white to which I replied yes, also dropped the coffee and left. The baguettes I ordered were extremely hard with mould on the tomatoes. I do not get the extravagant pricing for such a subpar service and product. Hey, at least the desert was good.

First time. Simpsons Lane Edinburgh. Asked for coffee and glass of water. No water came with small coffee measure. Toilet was filthy and table, seriously, looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in hours. At nearly 4 quid a coffee you expect a wee bit better service. First time on trip adviser and don’t want to drop the staff in it, but I would give it a miss.

The coffee was good , the bread was, of course, a slice of heaven, but frankly the open-faced tomato & mozzarella would have benefited from the use of much nicer tomatoes than the 3 (extremely decorative) slices of watery and tasteless (supermarket? Dutch?) tomatoes. TBF I think the mozzarella was fresh and the pesto certainly was, but the tomatoes.......blah.

£18.40 for a small roll, soup and two juices - bottom lip was almost on the counter when they said the price.Roll was OK, I defined it as “piddly” - was just a small roll, soup was lukewarmNice inside - looks better than it was.Staff however friendly, liked them.

Excellent coffee and pastries. Friendly staff and a lovely location on The Meadows for watching the world go by. Just the ticket for a light breakfast or lunch.

A great place for coffee pastries and breakfast - friendly helpful staff. Reasonable value and a really nice vegetarian breakfast. A new find and will be back next time we are in town

Please clean your teapots! I used to really enjoy visiting Soderberg for a cup of tea, but the teapots are always dirty now.

Sunday breakfast and we ended up at Soderberg. Their breakfast options based on bread and granola with yoghurt are lovely and the service very friendly. An excellent choice for a relaxing time on Sunday.

For a cheap eatery that was once a top spot for breakfast and lunch, something has gone wrong.The pizza was way too salty. The coffee was bitter. The omelettes were more like sandwiches. The staff had trouble keeping the orders straight.One hopes that these are issues related to restarting after COVID lockdowns.

Went for breakfast during the cut down Fringe with family. There was apparently no batter so all waffles and pancakes were off the menu. After the staff member eventually returned to our table with available options, all they could offer us to eat was a dry bun. We won't be returning despite the breakfast recommendation by a number of friends.

Stopped here during one hot afternoon in Edinburgh. It’s a little off the beaten track but I was curious to see what it was like having followed them on Instagram for a while. We were only having drinks and cakes but it was cool and peaceful. Coffee was good and cakes typical Scandi style. Apparently they have jazz nights on Sundays which I’d love to try sometime. Would recommend

Used to love going to Soderberg. Baked goods/food still great. But service is indifferent and half staff not wearing mask properly ie. Not over nose. Tea water lukewarm and teapots dirty.

I've been a cinnamon bun addict since my first visit to Denmark, and I have to say that Soderberg has them at least as good, and in the case of blueberry & vanilla buns, even better! The staff are very friendly, and the place is always very busy, especially on weekends, but these buns are so worth the queues. Thank you for bringing the buns to Edinburgh!

We waited nearly 30 mins for two coffees which never arrived. Got our basic order wrong, served people who arrived after us and couldn’t care less. We left and went elsewhere.

We ate the best pizzas we have had in years. They were light and tasty. The staff were welcoming and helpful, especially in relation to food allergies.

Great attention to detail with the food makes Soderberg extra special, like crispy hazelnuts on the sandwich bun. Soderberg offers is a chance to try new flavours, particularly flavours which are more popular in Sweden (almond, yum!). Reminded me of my time in the Netherlands.There's lots of vegan options available.There was lots of outdoor seating and it was a lovely location to be outside. I was unlucky since when I was here, it was very noisy. The building was being power-washed and the grass nearby was being trimmed.I enjoyed my trip to Soderberg, but I don't think I'll be back just because it was way too expensive for what you get.

No vegan options. Asked about the salad (was it vegan or not). Rather than properly check the ingredients the girls behind the counter just had a guess that it included dairy.

Sickly sweet pastries, lukewarm cappuccino, an unfriendly waiter. Food and beverages don't look too appetising. It seems for the owners this cafe is a hobby, not a business.

The service was good, we had tea and soft drinks and there was a nice selection. I would say its a little over-priced for what you get but staff and service were lovely.

Tomó un lunes fuera del trabajo como una oportunidad para visitar Soderberg para tomar un café por la mañana. No me decepcionó. Encantador ambiente en el lugar interior, personal muy servicial y educado y un excelente lugar para sentarse afuera y ver pasar el mundo. Un buen refuerzo de humor.

What a great place. I had breakfast here two times. A frukost fralla and a kardemomme snurra. The food was great and I would come back any day. The place was a little cold inside though.

Sé que son una panadería, pero no hay excusa para no proporcionar un brownie o flapjack sin gluten para los celíacos. Las opciones sin gluten también están muy de moda, por lo que realmente necesitan avanzar en ese frente. Cobrar 50 c extra por leche de soya o avena también penaliza a los veganos. Por lo tanto, no diría que satisfacen adecuadamente los requisitos dietéticos.

He visitado Sorderberg en algunas ocasiones, con familiares, novias y familiares. Perfecto para un café o almuerzo a media mañana. . Encantador estar lejos de las cadenas de cafeterías habituales. Alguien mencionó en una revisión la falta de WiFi, pero creo que es un cambio bienvenido. . ¿Significa que mi hija adolescente se desconecta de su teléfono? No me parece demasiado caro. Creo que los precios son razonables y me gusta el hecho de que los pasteles y pasteles son un poco diferentes.

The most overrated and disappointing experience of my week in Edinburgh this August. Not so much a restaurant, as a glass hall with no atmosphere, wi-fi or phone signal.

I waited in a queue for a frustrating 15 minutes with only one person serving (in the smaller Soderburg takeaway). When I eventually got to the front of the queue and asked for a latte with skimmed milk, I was abruptly told that the only milk they had was full fat (not even semi-skinned). I went to Nero nearby which was so much quicker, with the usual choice of milk.

What a great place. Really good barista made coffee and the baking is beautiful. I had a pistachio, cardamom and rose bun; good but not too sweet bun with plenty of pistachio based filling with just the right amounts of rose and cardamom to add flavour but overpower. I will be talking about the bun for a while, a real must go back place.

We were in Edinburgh for the weekend and searching "brunch places" this name kept on coming up...it did not disappoint! This branch is in a nice location, right in the middle of the university area. The coffee is great, the cinnamon/fruited/cardamon buns are great, the brunch is great (open sandwiches, fresh pizzas, special omelettes). Basically a great place to cure a hangover! The staff are kind and helpful, even when there is a rush.

As an American coffee geek from Seattle, I find it very hard to find good coffee in the UK! But my Americano with an extra shot hit the spot at Soderbergs. And the freshly baked scone was the best of several that I had while visiting this amazing part of the world!

Six of us sat outside in the courtyard for breakfast. So much choice of food available it was difficult to decide. Lovely healthy choices and delicious bread and we even had breakfast dessert. The parsnip cake was delicious and the muesli, fruit and yogurt bowl was equally delicious. I’ll be back.

Horrendously overpriced and stale food. No atmosphere. Surprised people like this sort of place but if you’ve got too much money and no taste this is the place for you.

I went to Soderberg twice when I visited Edinburgh for 6 days in July 2018. They have the most amazing cardemom buns. They were so good that I tried to recreate them at home some time ago, because I kept thinking about them! They also have good coffee, friendly staff and a variety of other breakfast or lunch dishes to choose from. One of my favorite spots in Edinburgh!

We spent 7 days in Edinburgh and went three times to Soderberg for breakfast! What more can we say - except: The open sandwiches, the yoghurt granola with fresh seasonal fruit, the flat white coffee: simply delicious! And on top of that very friendly staff, nice and relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

Stopped here on the way to an event in Edinburgh Uni and was very impressed. Coffee was very high quality and I enjoyed the sourdough toast - set me up nicely for a LONG day at work. Highly recommend.

Perfect place for a relaxed afternoon coffee & cake with a friend (or a book!). The cinnamon buns are to die for, especially the raspberry & vanilla ones, and the service is friendly and unintrusive. Highly recommend!

What I like: the coffee is quite good, the wood/glass/concrete interior is done in a nice, clean Scandinavian style, the location is great beside the Meadows, and the atmosphere can be nice inside with the afternoon sun filtering in the back.

This Soderberg location is a nice coffee shop very close to the University of Edinburgh. We liked our drinks and the atmosphere. I expect we'll stop in the next time we're in the area.

Nice coffee and good setting in and outside in the sunshine. Soft drinks a bit pricey, £2.80 for a 330ml coke! Could do with a other toilet, I had to wait ages. Nice area towards the Meadows

Dopo una bella passeggiata decidiamo di sostare per rifocillarci e assaggiare dei tipici prodotti locali, buns e scones, alla vanilla e raspberry con retrogusto alla cannella, delicatissimo. Ottimo il succo di mela.

Esto fue recomendado por mi hermana y por coincidencia estaba debajo del apartamento en el que nos alojamos.

Soggy cake. Poor service, took ages for coffee to come (lukewarm) and had finished soggy cake by that point. Mentioned to waiting staff that I had waited a long time for coffee and was ignored. Won’t be back.

Buena ubicación. Lugar funky pero. . . Considero que es artesanal, por lo tanto, el precio y dada su ubicación en Edimburgo, entienden esto. Pero si va a cobrar estos precios y sabe que está muy ocupado (fue un domingo por la tarde), pague un poco al cliente al no esperar que hagan cola durante 15 minutos para realizar el pedido. Really enjoy the cardamon and cinnamon buns from here. They do great Swedish bread here too. It is always busy so you might end up sharing your table.

Came in recently on a quick coffee run. Encountered lovely staff and was pleased with the quality of the coffee. Has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Will be coming back for sure.

I am in Edinburgh every few weeks

Ho pranzato spesso in questo locale, il cibo è molto buono, ma le zuppe sono squisite. Ogni giorno il locale propone delle zuppe diverse servite con pane ai cereali e pane integrale. Un pasto caldo e squisito! Lo Staff è cordiale e sorridente. Anche i dolci non sono male, ottimi quelli ai mirtilli!

Terrible experience a few days ago: ordered two take-away coffees and a bun (over £8), then waited 20 minutes. No communication from the serving staff as to the delay - I stood watching three of them doing dozens of other drinks, seemingly completely unaware of the wait or of the need to let me know what was happening. At one point I was dismissively asked to stand elsewhere (no reason given). Finally asked when my coffee would arrive - was told (wrongly) they were 'making it now'. Then given wrong coffee. I explained an apology would have been appropriate - got blase, arrogant response from staff. Shocking attitude and condescending service. For that price, or any price, I'd expect more.

Petit café mignon qui nous transporte dans les pays nordiques. Leurs chocolats chauds sont excellents (surtout celui à la cardamome).

We have been several times and it’s always busy. The baking is lovely . The outdoor seating is welcome in the summer. Quite expensive compared to other cafes but nicely positioned on middle meadow walk.

Staff efficient though very busy. Good coffee and the wide range of Scandinavian breads and cakes are delicious. The open sandwiches looked tempting, but we weren't there for lunch!

Such a great atmosphere clean unfussy lines inside and plenty of seating outside. Great coffee and a delicious open sandwich for lunch. The cakes looked amazing but sadly no time. It was busy but great service with a smile.

When I come here it is always for the same two items: Blabarsbulle and Hallonbulle. One of each, followed by an excellent coffee. If these names aren't familiar, let me fill you in: a spiced, baked bun, with a wad of custard in the middle and a jammy pile of either blueberries (Blabarsbulle) or raspberries (Hallonbulle) on the top. They are so good!

Loved my black lungo! So good to get something better than Starbucks. We had a very light lunch, so we just had two poppy seed small veggie and cheese rolls and they were very good. Good wi-fi and very friendly sales person is a big plus

After a lovely morning run on the Meadows my daughter and I were looking forward to a wholesome brunch here. On arrival the place seemed rather busy so I asked a slightly disinterested waitress whether it might be less busy in an hour. She replied she had no idea that it was just a cafe. So we decided not to wait. My daughters granola was bland and I ended up just having a bottle of sparkling water due to lack of choice for brunch. Maybe our expectations were too high.

Location, ambience and quality of coffee excellent - staff also good, helpful and friendly. Relaxed and informal.

Podría mostrar algunos otros establecimientos edimburgo cómo hacer servicio y estilo. Un festival preferido. Una queja. . Uno para hombres y uno para mujeres wc. Siempre hay una cola para el inodoro.

What a wonderful place, attentive and friendly staff, particularly the Scandinavian waitress that welcomed us, with well made scones and cakes, with what was honestly a cracking cup of coffee, with a beautiful finish on it. Couldn’t have been happier with my visit. Thank you!

Había estado queriendo probar Soderberg por un tiempo. A pesar de ser un día agradable y no muy concurrido, me pareció que el servicio lento y poco atento. Una persona en particular, llevando cafés, etc. para mesas, parecen salir de su manera de ser especialmente lento. Él parecía estar más interesado en busca de fresco de proporcionar cualquier tipo de servicio. También parece un poco caro. Mi experiencia de hoy me disuade a volver o tratar otras ramas. Una pena realmente.

Good place for breakfast and lunch! Lots of lovely pastries, buns, cakes and salads to choose from. Everything is freshly baked right around the corner. The interior is very spacious, open and clean.

I come here often especially to sit outside in the sun. I had put my jersey and newspaper on a table outside and gone in to order. A young male member of staff was outside clearing tables and my jersey had blown onto the floor so he picked it up and took my paper thinking I had left and forgotten them and another group took my table. I saw this but was ordering - when I got my stuff from him he was very apologetic (even though it wasn’t his fault) offering to get the table back - I declined as there were other tables I could join - he then gave me my coffee and cheese cake for free. WHAT a pleasure to be looked after by staff like this - most of the staff here are lovely but this was definitely going the extra mile in customer service- I wish I knew his name but he seems to be the only one clearing tables at this time (2pm) today - I hope his great work and customer ethic is appreciate and rewarded.

This cafe is very well established in this location with a loyal clientele who come back regularly for high quality bakery made on site, good coffee, and excellent sandwiches. It's a sociable place and I have always found the staff friendly, if you treat them like humans. I am not a great fan of the new soup supplier (bring back Moroccan chicken soup!) and I think the people who have posted reviews on here about high prices and unfriendly staff should stop to think about how expensive good quality ingredients are in this country (including coffee) and how casually customers sometimes treat hard-working staff. No, I don't work for them, but I've seen how some customers treat the staff and have been in awe at their restraint in the face of staggering rudeness and condescension.

He estado yendo a este lugar durante años pero últimamente, el servicio al cliente es simplemente deficiente. No sirven a los clientes en orden, así, esperando una eternidad para llevar un café mientras otros que vinieron después de que dieron su café y izquierda ya. . Y este ha pasado 3 veces sólo las últimas dos semanas. Muy pobre. Comparado con otras tiendas o suyos, en los prados uno el personal puede ser bastante desagradable.

Er zijn 2 zaken dichtbij elkaar. In de drukste zaak was de bediening onvriendelijk (meisje achter de toog), maar in de andere zaak waren ze supervriendelijk. Wij waren er tweemaal voor een ontbijt. Relax en lekker.

On a recommendation I visited Soderberg at the Meadows. It tries to be chic, is bright and airy and feels like a posh baker shop with service in the style of MccDonalds. Very busy with most people sipping coffee and using their portable devices. Pricey place imo and not so welcoming. £6 for an average americano and average vanilla fruit bun. Should have gone to the indigenous coffee shop.

Great cafe. High quality buns and beverages. Have also had excellent pizza in the place of an evening. Great bike parking and very chilled staff. Some with sense of humour. My fault, I pushed the ringing of bells a bit the other day and was told to stop because nobody liked it. Technically 14 customers liked it but others didn't including very serious waiting person. Other staff seemed to have a good sense of humour. As I say, my fault, nobody else to blame. Ring dem bells

Fuimos en día frío inviernos cálidos me para conseguir un café. Después de 10 minutos llegamos a nuestro café estéticamente agradable. No podía esperar a taza mis manos alrededor de la taza de café, ya que hacía mucho frío afuera. Mis manos frías resulta incluso más fríos, como el convertido de café no estaba ni siquiera tibia. Hacía mucho frío. Me registré el recibo doble tuvimos hablaras accidentalmente ordenados dos lattes helado pero no. . . Este fue el mejor ofrecimiento de Pedro Patio. Evitar.

Beautiful Scandinavian pastries, cakes, sandwiches and soups- perfect for a Sunday brunch. There's a feeling of openness inside the cafe, with plenty of students from the uni nearby working and reading. The cakes and pastries are extremely well made and very delicious, particularly the cinnamon rolls and pistachio shoehorns. If I live here I would come every week.

Muy caro, 5 libras. 60 para un rollo con una pieza de la parrilla de pimienta, unos pedazos de butternut squash, una hoja de albahaca y un poco de lechuga, mayonesa, no harissa ensalada o cualquier otra cosa. Mis socios de jamón y mozzarella rodillo en 6 libras. 70 no era mucho mejor. El personal está bien, pero no especialmente simpático. Volvería? No.

Went here after read a lot of reviews about their famouse pastry. A variety of bread were well-presented and u have to pick and pay at the counter. However, the downside is the stuff, she was not friendly. It looks like she did not feeling to talk and didnt pay attention to customers. Talked with each other while were responding with me.The bun was not as good as I expect. Very dry. And a little bit pricy.Best thing here possibly be the atmosphere which is nice, located in the Meadow. Pretty like the feel of this place. Note: there is no wifi here.

Was waiting over 5 minutes for a takeaway coffee so told a barista who rudley responded that they were very busy and they couldn't do anything about it, firstly it wasn't very busy and there seemed to be a lot of people hanging around round the back of the counter for a supposedly busy cafe. I would have appreciated someone warning me that there was a long wait for coffee as I was on a very short break from work. Seems like they think they're too cool for school.Positives; cardamom bun was good but didn't make up for long wait and rude staff.

That's it really. Nobody seems to mind paying £4.20 for a skinny slice of cheesecake. It's really really overpriced. Surly staff who think they're too cool for school and who don't realise that a smile and a friendly manner will get them tips. I gave it a second chance after last year's visit but I will not be coming again.

Good place to relax or get some work done. Beautiful park nearby. The baked goods looked delicious but will have to go back to try.
