On booking we requested a room on the first floor or above but ended up with a ground floor room, overlooked by a training centre. The room was in an annex. Lucky it was summer. Avoid the annex when the weather is wet. Room 70, our room, was clean but not spacious as advertised, having two tables one chest of drawers, one stool, two chairs and a 3 foot by 5 foot computer desk in front of a window (see photo). This meant I had to climb on the table to open and close the window. The room was fitted for those with disabilities, which meant the sink was too low down for able bodied. With the computer desk, a wheel chair would not fit in the room. The hotel advertises 9 acres of gardens, which are two lawns, a few trees and a large hedge round the one lawn. Not sure what the evening meals are, as the receptionist did not advise us. No menu was available. She had to ask what time breakfast was served. The breakfast was served in a very large room which mainly had round tables for eight. The waiter did not know if they served a hot vegetarian meals, which they did, but you have to ask. Had to serve ourselves to tea and coffee and breakfast. They ran out of coffee cups and the two toasters did not work. Clean rooms, but staff seem to have little knowledge of the hotels facilities.

This is ok for an overnight stay. It's practical and serves a purpose so if you're looking for a boutique hotel with all the bells and whistles, this wouldn't be the place for you. The original house is very pretty and the gardens lovely. The downside for our stay was that there was a party in the function room on the ground floor below, virtually underneath our room until midnight so I didn't get to sleep for quite a while. The sound proofing must be quite poor so my advice would be to ask if there's a function happening before you commit to booking (unless you're going to the party of course 🙂).

The room was DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY. The hotel adjoins a conference centre type place where there was a function going on. We must've been put in an old bit of the hotel to accommodate those guests as it looked nothing like the pictures. Looks like it hadn't been updated in decades. Could feel every spring of the bed. The carpet was the worst - covered in clumps of hair, marks and sticky in places. Work was going on so the conservatory bit where we had breakfast was all boarded up - no warning of that. Such a shame as the place could be lovely, just that those rooms need gutting. Others were complaining at checkout so it can't just have been us!

Nice hotel in quiet green surroundings. Room was clean & tidy with everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious with cereal, fruit, Ham/cheese, croissants, poached/fried & scrambled eggs + all of the cooked accompanying foods. The main hotel (reception rooms) had nice high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows. Apart from the restaurant/bar & dining rooms there was a room with a pool table, cues & chalk inc a further reception room and another bar. The receptionist on arrival was pleasant and helpful and part showed us to our room and gave precise directions thereafter. The only negative was the noisy water system in the off-house wing we were accommodated in. Also it was extremely hot the two days we stayed (hottest on record so far this year) topping 95 degrees. Fortunately our room was quite shaded. We did not feel the need to ask for a fan but think perhaps the rooms should have them as there is no air con.

Mould in our bathroom, chair looked past it's best days, questionable stains around the bed, bed felt like sleeping on rocks. Rest of the hotel was okay but Definatly needs repairs doing. Bits of rotten floor and window sills, whole hotel could do with a paint some of the beautiful features are heavily let down by the tired building. The breakfast was alright came free with the room have to get down there early for the best bits though. I didnt eat anything else from the hotel as it wasn't really to my palette. Stayed in better for cheaper. i wouldnt stay here again. Shame hotel has alot of potential. The grounds are pretty enough outside.

My reason for my 4 night stay was due to work being done in my home. I chose the hotel as it was the closest to my son’s school (5 miles away) on the second morning at breakfast my son (aged 7) nibbled on some and asked if he could finish eating in the car on the way to school, as I hurriedly tried to finish mine to get him to school on time I started to put a toast and bacon in a tissue for him, a member of staff approached me in an abrupt manner and told me I was not allowed. I began to tell her I was in a rush for school to which she replied “ he has eaten some hasn’t he?...... the food needs to be consumed here only!” I was mortified as she spoke so rudely and loudly as other diners looked on! She repeated herself a few more times that she can see my son had eaten to which I replied that the day before members of the hotel staff encouraged 2 guest to grab and go breakfast, IN FACT offered to wrap it up for them! The lady didn’t just upset me but also embarrassed my son!!!! She clearly lacked ANY customer service skills! Needless to say I promptly packed my things after the school drop off and complained to the front desk! I will NEVER go back there again

Set in beautiful surroundings away from the road, this hotel offers a reasonable stay at a good price. A buffett-style breakfast is included, with all you require to start your day, continental and full English. Rooms are clean and functional, with tv, good heating and en-suite shower and toilet. Would benefit from updating, but this is reflected in the price and are perfectly adequate. Staff are friendly and accommodating. One downside was that room doors tend to slam on closing and this reverberates quite badly so can be a little disturbing if the hotel is busy, as it was on our visit due to a function. But would certainty stay here again.

On arrival looks fantastic, long drive way then into a country house. Reception area was nice and in keeping with the features of the house. Staff very polite and professional. The whole place really needs a good makeover and TLC as it's been a bit neglected. Stains on ceilings after leaks, paint peeling away from walls, light bulbs blown and not replaced and that's also in the bedroom as well. Bedrooms and bathrooms need updating as dated. If they could do this then it will be worth the money you spend.on it for a stay. For the same price you can get something a lot better.

Abysimal Let me say firstly that from booking to arrival to leaving the staff were top notch and extremely helpful and friendly. That is the best thing I can say of this place. We just had a one night stay as a family of 4 adults and a child as a birthday celebration.. The photos on the website must of been taken in it's better days everything tired and not all that clean. We were given instructions of how to reach our rooms and opening the doors was a great disappointment the room was bare uninviting and cold no proper furniture open hanging space, stains on carpet and bathroom not particularly clean on floor and tiles. On using bathroom in night the fan screeched uncontrollably and no lock on bathroom door. I had been informed prior to arriving that there was a birthday party taking place so booked our evening meal at The Western Cross(excellent food and service) what I did not expect was to be put directly above the function room where the party was taking place - bad organization. Consequently sleep was lacking even though the bed was comfortable. Arriving at breakfast(9.15am) we joined the queue for a table with people who said they had already been waiting 10 minutes but eventually seated.we made our way to the buffet food. There was a few rashers of dried out bacon no tomatoes some scrambled egg after asking the waitress promptly disappeared and arrived another 10 mins with a very meagre looking top up. People standing around with food congealed on their plates waiting for other items to be topped up we waited 10 mins for some bread and when asked for yogurt to have with fresh fruit a ladle of yogurt arrived in a fruit bowl and was told that was all that was left now 9.40am. As we left at 10am another diner came in and asked for some items of hot food to be told they had run out(breakfast served till 10.30 we were told) A complete fiasco as i'm sure many other reviews will tell you. We were encouraged to walk round the grounds hmmmm old beds shoved up by pools generally unkempt and downright run down. The gym itself ok but the showers were disgusting as was that whole area. Needless to say we will not be recommending or returning

The hotel was also great when we left and realised we had left some things behind in a draw, the lady on the phone went straight away to check and then they were mailed back to us in a timely manner.
