Very average, the rooms could do with doing up looking run down, the food is expensive and not worth the money. It’s a 15 minute walk from the town.

Last minute weekend break in Ipswich and chose the Penta Hotel. Location is fine next to the river and a short walk into the town centre and the marina. On arrival check in was easy and swift and dealt with by Aaron who is a credit to the hotel and was always on hand and extremely helpful. The reception is the bar which wasn’t a problem at all and the decor of the bar area was modern and quirky with free pool table electronic darts and PlayStation. The room was perfect for what we wanted and the shower was very good. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and overall the hotel was excellent value for money. If I was to return to Ipswich I would definitely choose the Penta again.

Would personally not return to this hotel, Check-in poor no information received, even which was my room was located. Found out about the gym in the lift, which was a rare positive of the hotel. Room was clean and bed fairly comfortable but lots of carpet stains. Bar area in appearance is nice but wait for food was shocking and the staff at the bar/reception area dealt with the situation really poorly, not even an apology afforded. The food when eventually arrived (about 75 minutes) was good. Breakfast was ok. If you are here on business it’s passable, I would have been upset if I had paid to stay here.

Once again the long arm of th law reached out to Suffolk and Ipswich Crown Court in paticular. picked this hotel because it was close to the railway station and and once across the Bobby Robson Bridge the Crown Court beckoned close by. This is a rather zany hotel deco wise but very good all round place. I stayed 4 nights and ate breakfast and dinner each day. Would recommend room at the rear facing the river as immediately opposite the road side of the hotel is a freight rail yard and it can be noisey

After a friends flat was destroyed, the penta hotel had rooms for himself, his wife and 2 young children to stay. They were very welcoming and Stefanie and her team went above and beyond to help them out. Great customer service Beautifully designed and a very relaxing atmosphere. Now I know what it is like I will be fully recommending it here to everyone I know. Even looking to have a night here with my own partner when we are child free. Penta hotel staff, Thank you so much.

Stayed here a number of times on business, each visit the service gets worse! Restaurant times change constantly, room service 1 stay then not available on the next, only reason I continued to return was the gym facilities and now they are not always available. Last straw is hearing a waitress tell the bar staff no more food orders when she directed me to the bar to order food! No tables to sit at due to private function but no room service either? Where am I supposed to eat?? but happy to let me take my food to my room if I wait in reception for 20 minutes! Get more staff and your regular customers will return!

The hotel is average but comfortable. The check-in was a bit slow due to IT issues. My room had a faulty air-con but I was quickly moved into another room. The air-con was still not working, only blowing air and a bit noisy. The room haf a very comfortable bed and clean. Coffee and tea facilities were available in the room. Basic stay and did its purpose.

Nice hotel close to Ipswich centre, menu not massive but food good, staff great nothings too much, made me packed lunch for work each day. It's very clean, cleaners do room really nice everyday, probably best hotel lounge n bar areas been in on my various uk work stays. Only downside carpark bit small and traffic below can be a tad annoying if nightwork/day sleeping. But all in all great. If was socially staying in Ipswich would I bring family 100%yes Has pool table arcade games darts all sorts n nice music in background.imagine it's really good in summer

I was due to stay here last night but I have Covid. On Wednesday when I tested positive I called and asked them to change the dates of our booking and was told that was not possible because it was a non refundable booking. I said I wasn't asking for a refund but to change the date?? NOPE apparently in their T&Cs! What a bunch of absolute tools. Premier Inn and Travelodge let you move your booking when you pay in advance! So well done Penta you have stolen £50 off someone who is sick, in the middle of the cost of living crisis! TOP MARKS for being the worst hotel Group I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with! And Booking.com you are just as bad for letting them do this!

Car park dark, reception dark and staff simply daft. Plus got a parking fine, called reception to explain response was "Nothing I can do", even after I was a paying guest. Reception (employing 18 yr olds, no customer experience #cheap) staff never mentioned anything about parking and they are so badly trained it took 3 of them to discuss where and what was on the cocktails list. Now the accommodation, noisy, thin mattresses, food below par. Frankly you are better of going to Holiday Inn, Premier Inn or Novotel.

There are fourth family generation political prisoners endlessly breaking rocks into smaller rocks in North Korean prison gulags who sleep on more comfortable beds than the Penta’s beds… OUCH.COM/PAIN But outside of that, it’s bang on the money! Great location, friendly and efficient staff, tasty breakfast. Nice bar. Cool vibe!!! Rooms are a little basic, but modern, and you can grab yourself a good deal for a fair price. Is it luxury? No. But it’s alright. I’ve stayed in fair worse. It’s charmingly basic; cheap yet definitely somewhat cheerful. I’ve emailed Kim Jong-un to see if he’s got any beds free in Siberia next month, but failing that, you’ll see me at the Penta !

We arrived about 5pm, we checked in and my partner asked about the parking and we wasn’t advised we had to put our registration into a computer on arrival. We went to the room to get ready as we had a family birthday party to attend and we was only in the room about half an hour and my boyfriend went back to reception to again query parking and was told he would have a £100 fine for not putting in the registration on the computer. My partner was not happy and asked the lady why this was not mentioned when checking in. The response being ‘nothing we can do you have been here longer than 15 minutes you will have an automatic fine’ this really upset my partner. He then asked to pay for parking to potentially avoid a fine and was told it’s too late. The staff were unhelpful and rude. We was in a rush so in the car on the way to the party we downloaded an app and paid for parking which said we had until midnight on the day of our stay to pay for parking which cost us £20 instead of £10 because the hotel REFUSED to help. If this is the case and we don’t get a fine the staff caused a lot of unnecessary stress to our evening through lack of knowledge of their own car park! Moving onto the TV. It was a family party so we was back at the hotel early and wanted to watch Netflix / a film which was an option as the TV has 3 different settings to allow you to do this. It had screen mirroring, cast and mobile content sharing all which would have worked if the TV was actually connected to the internet which it wasn’t and the network was greyed out and you couldn’t edit. I even paid for an app and downloaded it to be able to share my device to the tv which had specific instructions to connect to a Samsung TV and provided a password. It didn’t work as the TV had no internet and emitted no signal to connect to. So you can’t ‘chill’ in your room without watching Australian customs programmes. It’s 2022 and it’s a pretty basic feature of a hotel room to be able to mirror your phone to a TV. When going out to reception this morning we was surprised to see loads of parking signs had popped up and been put all over the reception desk. My partner asked ‘when we’re these put out then’ the response ‘don’t know’. If your going to sell your car park to an external company at least making it your motive as a business to ensure you have the knowledge and ensure your customers do to. In conclusion if you find this hotel at a cheap price be prepared to pay an extra £20 or £100 in parking fees and you can only book it for a night on the town because you certainly don’t want to be ‘chilling’ in your room with nothing but junk and news to watch on the TV.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL I would of given no stars if it was an option. This makes a mockery of the hotel star system and the reviews on here must be based on historic reviews from some time ago. We checked in got to our room and the temperature was 17.5c so we turned on the air conditioning (or airflow system as the staff like to call it as it’s not working) after an hour the room had not heated up so I tried to call reception but the phone did not work. I went to reception who happily gave me another room and keys. After three attempts and reissues of keys I could not access the room so they then issued keys for a third room which we moved too on the other side of the hotel. With only an hour to spare and having to be out for a show we put the heating on and left the spare key in the slot so the electric would remain on and the room would be warm on return. Upon our return some 5-6 hours later the room was still 18.5c and no heat (temp was set to 23c) I tried to call reception but the phone in this room didn’t work either. I went to reception and explained the room was not warm and this was same as our last room. I was patronised and asked if I had left the key in and told it was an airflow system not air conditioning. I explained that it had been left on for 6 hours and the room was not fit for purpose. I was then presented with a wall mounted heater that had no legs or PAT tested and told to use it to heat the room. To be honest this was appalling and also a health and safety issue to use a wall mounted heater propped up against a wall On a cheap nylon carpet. Also the Tv did not work and even after a retune only had 2 channels on it. 2 lights in the room did not work also. The restaurant was also closed in the day/evening (breakfast only) When I pointed this out I was told it was not the hotels fault. How a 4 star hotel can not have its restaurant open i don’t know but if you read other reviews this seems to have been the case for some time. Also when we got to our floor the lift doors opened and we were faced with paint tins tools and light bulbs all across the hall way and the entrance to the fire exit Do not stay here This is more like faulty towers and should be avoided at all costs

So ignore my previous review! Rooms are good the place in general is good but do think there is sime customer service issues. More info could be given on arrival eg wifi etc. We ate in resturant and ut was ok beer etc bit bland not many options and quite expensive. Main problem is room cards needing to be re configured nearly everyday!!! Also in the evenings the reception becomes the bar and staff seem keen to serve and chat rather than deal with room issues. I was here for work and matbe these things are not a priblem for weekenders.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel (then the Ramada) 10yrs ago, it's was once very clinical and tried to be something it wasn't. 10yrs on we decided to go back and see just how different it is now Penta have taken over.......WOW!The entire feel of the hotel has been transformed, from the moment you step through the sliding doors you are greated with a prominent and unique bar/reception area, managed 24/7 by the most friendly staff you will ever meet and special thanks to Emma and the team for making us feel so welcome throughout our staff.Surrounded by quirky Steam Punk Furniture and more sofas than DFS, you are guaranteed to find a cosy little corner to relax and unwind; they even supplied blankets incase you wanted to brave the outside patio area. The pool table is free and adds some light hearted entertainment but if that's not your thing, there is even a playstation tucked neatly away for those that struggle to disconnect. The hotel is very well decorated and the Gamer room where we stayed was spotless, spacious and very peaceful, made even better by the relaxing rain shower which was the size of a cart wheel and the soft white robes and slippers, which made us feel right at home. Knowing of our return, the thoughtful staff presented us with a welcomed drink to start our epic stay and this was topped off in the morning with a breakfast to die for....so much food, the diet definitely starts tomorrow!A great way to start a new decade and special thanks to all the amazing Penta staff, who's customer service was exceptional Highly recommended

We stayed at the Penta Hotel Ipswich for the weekend of our 10 year anniversary. When we arrived they instantly upgraded our room when they knew our reason for staying. Room was lovely, quite quirky, lovely view of the river, nice big TV, very modern bathroom. The breakfast included in our package was lovely, help yourself to cooked breakfast and pastries, they even made me some gluten free toast to accompany my cooked breakfast due to allergies. The bar and reception was lovely, staff are very helpful. The lounge area has beautiful big sofas and arm chairs, mood lighting, free snooker table and games station. Second day we had a spa day booked and when we got back to the hotel they had gone to the effort to put bubbly on ice in our room which was a lovely touch. And then when we checked out this morning they'd gone to the effort to pay for our parking.Emma in particular, she is amazing, she went above and beyond to make sure our stay was happy, comfortable, booked us taxis, gave us extra pillows and really really made the stay memorable. So thank you Emma :)

And if you park on road you have to be up and out before 8 or you get a ticket . It's just a bit of a nightmare to be quite honest . And i like my vehicle to be secure . We booked two rooms here as we had a family event nearby. The hotel is run by quite young people. As you walk in you have the bar area which is where you check in. The area is very nice, dimly lit with a strong smell of men's aftershave everywhere. The furniture is good with comfy leather armchairs and snooker tables but when we went to relax after being out all evening there were people playing whose language was quite offensive so we didn't stay long. The rooms are pretty basic, quite firm beds but a few quirky touches like lights n pictures but quite small. I had asked for a quiet room but we must have had the most noisy rooms in the hotel, right above reception. After we had gone to bed there was constant noise from the car park as it must be the area where people go to smoke. Again we could hear a lot of noise until the early hours. I did ring down to reception eventually where a guy answered but put the phone down on me for some reason altho the noise did subside for a while. Was a shame as the breakfast was very good.

Really good reception area with nice bar incorporated. The room was a fantastic design, contemporary without being plastic and had comfy chairs and a great bed. The shower and bathroom were great! This was excellent value for £50 picked up on a last minute deal.

After working in Ipswich for the past 7 months I can honestly say that I have now found a hotel that doesn`t disappoint, All the staff are very friendly and do everything to make your stay a comfortable one. The atmosphere is chilled and relaxed with a modern twist. It`s also been a refreshing change to communicate with staff by first names which gives it that personal touch and makes the experience more enjoyable and less formal than other hotels that I have stayed in.

Nice bar and clean rooms etc but I've stayed here 3 times now and I would not recommend it. On all 3 occassions there have been problems with real basic stuff. The tv did not work for 2 days during my first stay and on the next two occassions free films would just turn of part way through....big probs with the entertainment system they have in the rooms. Also seem understaffed as can be long waits for things like checking in and ordering room service (be prepared to try ringing for 45mins to order food!!!)

Very contemporary hotel .reception bar restaurant and lounge area is all in one and had great vibe with lots of contemporary feel to it. Will say the bar and restaurant prices are outrageously priced. Luckily the town centre and delightful water front is only 15 min walk away.

Very friendly hotel and cool decor but very overpriced food. 26 quid for a very simple steak with a tomato ..... could have included chips and a salad but in the scheme of things it didnt spoil the stay. Thanks Ahmed and Georgiana

Currently at the time of writing this a separate listing did not exist for the Restaurant/Lounge area of Pentahotel. I've asked for this to be created as you do not need to be a guest maybe to use the restaurant/lounge which is certainly a 5* rating from me, whereas the hotel was more like 3.5 and is quite different.

Nice pub, nice location, nice staff. £7.50 for a pint, and other reviews say it's even more expensive on match days? The only person I saw go for a second drink was Elon Musk.

There was a very kind staff member who made me feel comfortable during my first day out with my newborn, despite how busy it was. Thank you!
