I think that the location is the draw. Food is just ok and the service is slow. Stopped there on a tour. Otherwise go somewhere else.

I have a confession to make, I'm not a fan of the Beatles so I usually avoid Beatles themed venues. Today though I was grabbed by an urge for cake, or to be more precise my husband was. The Penny Lane Coffee Shop was a lovely surprise, I'd assumed from the outside that it would be quite dark inside, it isn't. The coffee bar is lovely and airy, and the Beatles decor is surprisingly (for me) attractive. The service was prompt and friendly, and the cakes and coffee/hot chocolate were fresh and tasty. We'll definitely be going back, and next time we'll be eating lunch.

Called in with a friend for a coffee and light lunch. Very pleasant and reasonable. Great for anyone wanting a little taste of The Beatles as there are plenty of photographs around. Looked like a nice place to stay for visitors

I popped in for coffee and toast while waiting for some tyres to be fitted on my car at a nearby garage. The toast was, well, toast. Hard to go wrong and difficult to be exceptional. But it was as good as a couple of slices of toast could be. The coffee was really good. I only drink a plain black Americano and it was an excellent cup, so much so that I stayed for a second cup. The service was impressive. I asked for a black coffee and was presented with a full cup of black coffee without a mini jug of milk. It doesn't sound like much, but so many cafes ignore the word "black" and bring milk which I find really irritating. So i find it remarkable and noteworthy when on the rare occasion that the server actually listens and brings a black coffee and no milk. I noticed also that the staff were really helpful with other visitors, especially tourists, by recommending tours and restaurants and by going to extra lengths to book a table at a nearby restaurant that is nearly always booked up. I do have one criticism. The entrance door is automatic and opens every time someone walks in or even when people walk past close to the doorway. My criticism, apart from the potential for draughts if you are sitting near the door, is that it means it would be very easy for a small child to wander out of the cafe onto a busy road.

Have eaten here a couple of times now as is local to me but even though in theory it should tick all the boxes (pleasant decor, pleasant staff, good menus) I always feel it could be better. Cafe has been cold bordering on chilly both times we have visited. Drinks took an age coming out even though it wasn't busy, breakfast itself was good, so a mixed review I guess.Overall I would say worth trying and making up your own mind.

This place is fantastic. We dropped into the cafe at 3pm, and was told the kitchen was closed for hot food, feeling disappointed, we looked at the menu. What a pleasant eating experience we had. I ordered the Chicken Salad and wow it was just gorgeously lovey and super healthy too. My other half ordered a Roast Chicken and Salad Chiabatta, which he informed me was "surprisingly classy". This place might smell a bit greasy and it might be because the hot food is just as scrummy as the cold food. It's well worth a visit to this gem of a place, and the staff are just lovely too. We will definitely be going back and next time for the healthy options Much better than the bacon butties we where going to order.

What a waste of a great little location on Penny Lane.. No wonder it is regularly almost empty.. staff not very pleasant or professional.. but the main problem is the SMELL.. urrgghh! Seeing as it's advertised as a 'Coffee Shop' - unfortunately it smells like a greasy spoon cafe - not a pleasant place to enjoy a coffee/tea and relax. It's clear that they make full english breakfasts and the like too, but seeing as it's not a very big place, you feel like your sitting in the kitchen! Maybe they should invest in an decent extractor - to make the place more pleasant. I feel like this place has no soul or atmosphere. There are tourists visiting Penny Lane from all over the world and I'm sure they would be excited to see this little coffee shop - I can't imagine it making a long-lasting impression though. I had a Groupon voucher for a number of hot drinks, but I didn't return after my first visit..! It's a real pity the owners can't see what they are doing wrong - they also seemed a little disinterested and unapproachable...

Took my daughter here for a birthday breakfast expecting a 'greasy spoon ' type cafe but found it to be much better. I had a bacon lettuce and tomato and its probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, good quality bacon and thick toast and very tasty mayo. When the waitress/owner found out it was my daughters birthday she even brought over a cup cake with a candle and sang happy birthday! All in all a great little cafe and well worth a visit.

Ignore Tobindavies - he's on another planet or has the wrong place. This cafe is close to our daughter's house and we have been there four or five times. It's excellent in every respect in that it's a cafe and not a restaurant so expect good quality value breakfasts, lunches and snacks with superb thick cut ranges of different breads (no sign of Tesco wrappers at all). Burgers and sandwiches are freshly cooked/made to order and nothing is too much trouble for the excellent friendly staff. Well worth going down 400 yards or so down Penny Lane from Allerton Road. It's also really clean and contemporary.

After seeing the previous reviews on trip advisor and being a regular visitor to the area I was excited to try this "coffee shop". The food was bland, the service was lacking and all in all was a massive disappointment. We were told of the homemade bread that was baked everyday but it was no fresher than the tesco wrapper it came out of. The coffee was sent back cold...twice. The food that we ordered was either not on the menu anymore or out of stock. We really dislike this place and advise anyone else to steer well clear. Such a shame as the building itself is very contemporary and just needs a jolly good clean and a lick of paint.

Every time I come to Liverpool with my friends in the daytime we visit this coffee shop. I was brought here by a friend and I find it to be excellent quality and value. The food is fresh and varied and absolutely delicious. Today I ordered eggs benedict which was all perfect, with chunky ham and a muffin. The sandwiches are huge and just lovely. They use tasty extras on the sandwiches and they are served with crispy dressed salads. They fill you up for hours. The club sandwich is enormous. Service is not fast because the place is always busy and all is prepared fresh. I cant fault it. Newspapers etc available, lots of different clientele, just an interesting, friendly small place. Love it.

My girlfriend asked for a medium strawberry acai with lemonade but no ice and the drink cost £5.60 already for this price you could expect them to fill the cup, instead served a small cup half full, i asked if they could fill it up with lemonade as every other starbucks has done. I had to ask for a refund as i wasnt paying £5.60 for a half drink, we sat down to enjoy some time together and we overheard us them attempt to whisper about me asking for a refund by one staff member to the other and i found this to rude, when all i asked was a simple request. Any other starbucks or even staff have been much more accommodating. Wont be returning and ask people to go to the other starbucks in town centre.

We ordered a giant cookie on the second of feb to be collected on the 17th feb giving plenty time for it to be made. The day before pick up I ran the branch and asked about the cookie to which the lady rudely replied she hadn’t got an order and that there was lots of staff so it had gone missing, she didn’t even think to ask what was my order and instead told me to ring back at 4:30pm as she was extremely busy. As this cookie was for an event I didn’t want to risk not getting it and with the employee not really listening and being rude on the phone I went down to speak to her to my Surprise (not) she was not busy instead on her phone with her headphones in I spoke about the issue with the missing order and showed her my receipt to which she replied (I believe you) well I’m glad she did as she took my order on the 2nd. She never apologised or even acknowledges her mistake instead was extremely rude. I’m sure this isn’t the time of person Millie’s wants as the front for there business because I will not be going back and I’m sure others will feel the same if they have to deal with the same rudeness and inconvenience.
