Just had a fantastic meal. I had salmon teriyaki and rice with broccoli. Salmon was perfect. Rice best I have had anywhere. As for broccoli a lot of places need to take lessons from your chef. Could not fault it. Had the posset for dessert. It was gorgeous. The rest of the family enjoyed their food too

Couldn’t have enjoyed a meal more than I did today, food absolutely spot on and plentiful. This meal was well worth the money we opted for 2 course and with drinks for 3 of us cost £65.00. Will definitely be going back and recommending to family and friends.

This is a lovely restaurant for dinner with an extensive menu on offer. Their homemade southern fried chicken starter is absolutely delicious and I am tempted to have this as a main course. On this occasion we all opted for sirloin steak as on a Wednesday, they offer two steaks (or you can have gammon) for £25. We were all very pleased with our steaks which were cooked perfectly enhanced by the extra portion of onion rings. Rather than standard desserts which are of course available, The Penny Farthing offers Magnum ice lollies, which three of us opted for. It was a thoroughly lovely meal.

Although the food was spot on the hospitality and service left a lot to be desired. We booked a table for 1730 and arrived in good time. It appeared that our booking couldn't be found and eventually, after getting a drink, were shown into the side room which had no curtains, the windows were filthy and there were snail trails on the floor. There were vases of flowers around the bar and pub but these were mostly dead. After over 10 minutes my partner went and asked for a menu, the landlady continued to look at here phone and ignored him but one of the younger girls said she would bring them over, which she did. The food service was fine and, as I said previously, the food very good; just such a shame about the landlady's attitude and the state of the place, it comes across that if you are not local the landlady is not interested. We will not be going back.

This was the 3rd year we had attended this pub for meals. 1st time was for Sunday lunch. My partner decided to have the Lamb Shank which fell off the bone and was cooked to perfection, and I had the chicken which was also nicely cooked, all served with veg and potatoes. We also had puddings which consisted of a Lemon sorbet for my partner and a very tasty sticky toffee pudding for myself. We then attended on the Thursday night , which was the night before we left for home. The starters were amazingly tasty , my partner had , honey sticky belly pork bites, from the specials board and I had spicy chilly prawns also from the specials board. Our mains consisted of chicken curry for my partner and I had the Haddock and chips, which was amazingly flavoured. BUT ,!!!!! They kept a secret from us, ,, The pudding list!!! We chose cheesecake , which turned out to be Mars Bar cheesecake. Personally I could not have eaten more than 4 or 5 slices ,, without giving up. I hope they keep this on the menu, as its was the best cheesecake my partner and I have ever had, ( trust me, we have had a few !!!) . We hope to return to the area next year and hope to re-visit our succulent experience.

Came for Sunday lunch as to be honest it was a disaster. The roast potatoes where like rocks, the cauliflower had a very strange taste, the veg sausages were disgusting and the veg selection had a whole carrot in with cabbage and cauliflower. We stayed at the Tavern just round the corner from this pub so it's within very easy walking distance. We walked in and were served within 30 seconds of standing at the bar even though it was quite busy.Asked if food was being served and then asked for a table for two. Straight to it and the order was taken within 10 minutes of sitting down(enough time for us to look at the extensive menu and specials). Friday qwe went with the Fish and Chips. Fantastic choice a bumper sized piece of fish, cooked in a well done and crispy batter. Homemade chips which are always a plus and mushy or garden peas. Absolutely lovely. Reasonable prices for drinks too. Friday's they have two fish and chip meals for £15. Two pints of cider and two glasses of wine just over £30 and well worth it.Saturday we returned after our almost 11 mile walk. The wife had curry of the day and I had the steak and ale pie. Both were very tasty and filling. We only had the one drink this time as we were a little tired after the walk. Both meals and the a pint of cider and glass of wine just under £30. Agian well worth it.Special mention to Nathan who worked behind the bar and took food orders. A very nice and pleasant young man. He engaged in conversation even though we were only there for the two nights and remembered us also from the night before. He is a credit to the people who own this establishment.

Excellent meal for all of the family, although my lamb cutlets were overdone, they were still tasty. However, my adult daughter was told that we had to vacate the table by 7pm as it was booked for another group. I have lived in Europe where families go out for meals that last 3-4 hours so where do British restaurants get off believing they can dictate how long you can commandeer a table for? This is the 3rd restaurant/pub in the Lincoln area that I will never book a table in for the same reason. How rude! As it happens, we were finished just after 7pm but that is not the point!

We were staying nearby and needed to find somewhere to have food after having a walk in a local village and came across the Penny Farthing on trip advisor. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime but didn’t want a roast dinner. They have a specific dog area which is fine and we where the only ones in there.Luckily they have a few extras other than Sunday roast on there Sunday menu.We shared two starters Cajun Chicken and deep fried Brie both very yummy. For our mains we had sausage and mash with seasonal veg which was good and a nice thick gravy too. And a fish a chips, it was all cooked well and the fish was big.We contemplated pudding but had already over faced ourselves with the starter and main. We would recommend this pub and go again if in the area. Thank you.

Chose this restaurant based on local feedback and trip advisor reviews. It is as mostly stated. Good food reasonably priced. Felt the front of house team were rushed off their feet serving restaurant and bar but were always pleasant and polite. We will be going back as food was good and there’s no reason not to

As usual, on arrival the staff seem more intent on talking to people at the bar and leave you waiting around for some time before you are finally acknowledged. Eventually we were seated in a nice, comfortable area behind the main body of the restaurant. The restaurant was not too busy and service was much better here than at the bar. The starters were delicious (prawn skewers and also salmon and prawn (generous portion)). The rump steak was perfectly cooked but unfortunately all vegetables and chips were over-cooked on both plates and therefore dry. Prices are quite reasonable and portions are typically large, so you need a healthy appetite!

I had a brie starter which was well overcooked, verging on burnt, for main meal I had home made steak and ale pie, it was grim, very thin, hard pastry, had obviously been reheated several times, again overcooked, some burnt bits of meat and parts of the underside black, didn't finish it. I live in the village and have been a regular visitor to the Penny Farthing since it re-opened at the beginning of the year under new management after being closed for 2 years. The improvement on the former management has been massive. The staff seem to be better organised and the whole pub runs better with Len particularly good. The big plus for me has been the quality of the meals. What you get is good quality home cooked food, which is always served piping hot and all at a very reasonable price. My own particular favourites are the black pudding and goats cheese starter, and either the blade of beef or the home-made steak and ale pie for main. Portion size is also very good. There are specials on set nights in the week, such as steak night and on Fridays you can get 2 portions of fish and chips for a reduced price. I have not been in for Sunday lunch but other villagers have made complimentary comments. It is well worth a visit.

Wednesday is steak night and myself and my sister had the best steaks we can remember! "Cooked to perfection" doesn't begin to describe how tasty they were. Portions were generous and we foolishly decided to have the treacle sponge and custard for desert. Had to sit and savour the ambiance of the place for 30 minutes as we were to full to move. Before we left we spoke with the chef and he recommended the homemade cheesecake for our next visit and gave us a taster. It was scrumptious. Value for money was excellent and we will definitely be going back for more.I would also like to correct a previous reviewer who stated "what you can expect for pre-bought in pub food" ... The chef assured us that nothing is "pre-bought!" and short of raising your own beef herd and growing enough veg to supply the restaurant I'm not sure what they could do :)

This just about sums up this pub/restaurant. Typical pub menu, huge portions of okay food. We asked for a wine list and we're told there were three, but no further explanation given. All very strange.

We popped into this pub whilst over to visit relatives in Timberland. We were delighted with what we found. A clean and rustic style pub with an appetising menu and all at a very reasonable price. Four of us had 2 courses and drinks for under £20 a head. The food was delicious, unpretentious and really yummy. We can't rate the deserts as we were stuffed after 2 courses, but Im sure they life up to the rest of the menu. Good quality homemade pub food. The service was professional and friendly. We will certainly be returning to sample some of the dishes we didn't choose this time. A little off the beaten track but worth the detour.

We went for lunch today, as the pub has reopened and we wanted to support the new owners. Upon arrival, the barmaid was so rude, we changed our minds. Without even looking at us she took our drinks order, shoved them across the bar, and ignored us when we asked for menus as speaking to another member of staff...we left!

I went with my husband last week to meet up with friends who live in the village. We'd all been before so we had high expectations of the food and we weren't disappointed. I had the surf and turf for my main which consisted of a juicy, well-cooked medium sirloin steak and a skewer of garlic and chilli prawns. These were accompanied by delicious chips, fresh mushrooms and a tasty tomato. I would definitely have this dish again. The other mains we ordered were the beef madras curry and the steak and ribs. Everyone agreed that they were very happy with their choices, which were all from that night's Specials board. The only slight criticism I'd make was the presentation of the curry; it looked a bit of a mess in a bowl on top of the rice. For puddings we had chocolate brownie, lemon tart, steamed treacle pud and the honeycomb crunch cheesecake. I can vouch for the cheesecake, and the brownie and tart were also well-received. The treacle pud was apparently a bit dry though and seemed to have been microwaved. We wouldn't order that again. With drinks (all alcoholic), the meal for four of us came to about £90 which we thought was good value as the food was good and the portions generous. The service was prompt and friendly. The pub is clean and spacious, if a little dark. We'll certainly be back.

Having enjoyed previous visits to this restaurant, the last being 3 years ago, we thought we would visit again. The menu has been altered drastically and was not so inviting as previously. The food we ordered was OK and served with a smile. All in all, we were disappointed. Talking to a local, it appears that shortly after our previous visit, the restaurant was closed and only reopened a few months ago with new owners.

We were a group of 9 although we had booked for 11, two of the teenagers decided they were too tired to join us for dinner. The landlord appeared a little aggrieved at this, despite the restaurant not being full. Unfortunately the restaurant had run out of steaks so we could not all order what we originally wanted. However the food was very good when it arrived so full marks to the chef. However we then had a dispute with the landlord when the bill arrived as drinks had been added to the tab which had already been paid for in cash at the bar. So in summary, great food but double double check your bill before paying!!!!!!!!!

We wanted to try this out now it has reopened and is quite local. It was very quiet for a Thursday night and when we arrived there were no staff to be seen so we seated ourselves. When the landlady appeared we ordered drinks at the bar and she provided menus. Then the customer service took a nosedive. It took so long for her to take our food order it was almost laughable! She was far too busy drinking and playing her phone and wandering in and out the kitchen to bother with her customers. Eventually she took the order and food arrived after quite some wait. Everything was okay, what you can expect for pre-bought in pub food. I'm sure this could be a successful business but with service like this it won't last long. If you don't like welcoming people and being nice then employ someone else to do it because you are scaring people away! I mentioned to a friend that we had been and he said he had also been and it was good except for the rude woman! Says it all really...

Booked an early table on a Tuesday night - quiz night started at 8pm. The waiter couldn't have been more friendly or helpful about the menu. There was plenty to choose from. Between the four of us we chose two sirloin steaks, a chicken carbonara and a steak and ale pie. The food arrived quickly and the portions were very generous. The steaks were cooked as requested and very tasty, as were the mushroom, tomato and onion ring accompaniments. The meat in the pie was lean and tender and the gravy rich and thick. There was a proper shortcrust pastry pie crust. The carbonara was tasty but O thought there was a bit too much sauce. We were all too full for puds but I can recommend the honeycomb cheesecake from a previous visit. With drinks, our meal cans to £20 a head which we thought was very reasonable. The place is clean and friendly and we'll be trying it again; maybe for steak night on Wednesdays or curry night on Fridays. Well worth the visit.

Came here at short notice on a Sunday. Not been here since it reopened. As soon as we arrived, the waiter apologetically told us they had hardly anything left, told to us in conjunction with him saying the owners needed to sort out the food situation. The menu was huge, which I'm always wary of (how can it all be fresh?) but that wasn't a problem as the waiter was right, there was nothing left on it. We ordered the steak and ale pie, pasta carbonara and cheesy garlic bread. Overall, seriously poor. The pie was great, but I think it was bought in from elsewhere. No dramas as far as that's concerned. They didn't have mushy peas (tins of them last forever surely?) and the veg provided instead was boiled to within an inch of its life. Chips were good. Gravy was from a catering company. The shocker as the pasta. Carbonara is pretty basic stuff. I know there may be some debate as to the classic ingredients but this was diabolical. It was entirely white! White pasta, boiled white chicken (no hint of a frying pan) and a runny white sauce that covered the whole lot. The photo attached has some pepper we added for some flavour and colour, you know, to perk it up a bit. It tasted of nothing, no seasoning added at all and if this wasn't out of a big jar, I'll eat the phone I'm writing this on. Why say you do carbonara when you clearly don't? Go some way to solve one of the earlier issues (size of the menu) and get rid of this rubbish. The garlic bread; a white baguette, sliced into four pieces, with some seriuosly weak garlic butter thinly spread on it and a thin sprinkling of grated cheese. Tasted of bread with a hint of cheese. Nice choice of beer.

I did a review a few months ago stating the Carvery was worth the disgraceful service. I now take this back completely. The service is unbearably bad in what is never a 'busy' pub... They flap, don't acknowledge you, don't check if your drinks need topping up, work to whether they can be bothered rather than your needs. The chef still refusing to take money off Carvery price even when you're a vegetarian saying - "just have more vegetables". So, just because you are a vegetarian you deserve no meat alternative and instead just pile your plate high with potatoes and boiled veg? Ever heard of a tart? Goats cheese, rocket, red onion? Stuffed mushrooms? Peppers? Just ANYTHING if you are unwilling to take money off of the price. Cheek. The till spent the entire time beeping from over heating - just unplug it and sort out rebooting it later? Rather than ruining ambience so you don't have to work out how to turn it back on.Oh, it's just a mess of people not knowing what the hell real service is and panicking over a few full tables. You're in a rural village, go and work in a major city on a weekend evening and then come back to me and moan.Do not go here. You have been warned.

I go for a Carvery here relatively often, but have come to expect the terrible service which I brush aside because the Carvery is so tasty. On this particular time I had friends visiting and took them for a Carvery... The service was worse than EVER! Firstly we stood in the door to be seated and a girl rushed past us no less than 4 times at no point saying 'I'll be with you in a minute' or even acknowledging us. In the end I had to ask her could we please be seated?! She directed us to a boy near the bar who looked shocked to death, he proceeded to ask in a rude tone had we booked? Now, this is a constant thing here, no matter how empty/full, they are obsessed with people calling and booking; however you are a pub after all, people stumble across you and come in without booking IT'S PART OF THE INDUSTRY. We said no we hadn't booked (we had just decided to go that morning and they don't open until 12, which is exactly when they begin Carvery, and we got there at 12:30). The waiter, as usual, looked shocked as disgusted that we hadn't booked and stumbled over his words for 10 seconds before telling us a seat around the bar area may be free and could we be seated on the sofas to wait. He then didn't delegate this task to anyone and carried on with his serving... So no one but him knew we were waiting and he wasn't working towards seating us. We've all worked in customer service and so said shall we just go and clear a table ourselves. We went to the area and there was a free table after all, he just hadn't bothered to check. We waited at the table and no one came to serve us (it is table service) and so we went up to the bar where two girls stood serving the odd drink but engrossed in inputting something into the till. No 'be with you in a moment' no hello. Nothing. Minutes went by. I became irate at this point and sternly demanded that someone serve us to which one of the girls replied 'sorry I didn't know why you were here'. I told her that that's why, when someone enters your building and approaches the bar you ask CAN I HELP YOU. All of the staff looked rushed off their feet, very stressed... They were 18 mostly without an older/more experienced supervisor to direct them. However, I still wouldn't have called the place overwhelmingly busy even though it was nearly full. I have worked in city restaurants and bars, these people clearly wouldn't know busy if it slapped them in the face. I think the staff are under-trained, without guidance and running around at random and need to be taught how to greet and smile. Oh, I was also charged full price for a veggie Carvery... Which was no different other than I didn't have the meat which I'm pretty sure is the most expensive part for them to order in.

This is a lovely country pub restaurant, a bit off the beaten track and tucked away between Lincoln and the Lincolnshire fens. There is a friendly atmosphere and the food is tasty. You have a choice of roast meats and freshly cooked vegetables. It is good value for money at £6.95 and the desserts are absolutely scrummy and not expensive. I especially recommend the Lemon Meringue Eaton Mess and the Creme Brulee. We have a pub where we live which is literally next door but we think it's well worth the drive here for the good value food. This was our second visit in as many months and we will be back very soon.

What a refreshing experience, I have recently had the misfortune of having some terrible experiences with restaurants, my new year wish was to go to an eatery, order, eat, enjoy and be happy to pay for the whole experience.Well today I did and what an unique experience it has been for me, yes the pub was quiet when we got in, but we had a lovey warm welcome, we had the option of sitting in the bar or the restaurant and was run through the options of menus. We chose the 2 courses for £10 everything looked good but we thought the portions for that price would be smaller so we would have room for the dessert. Wrong the portions were very generous on the mains, the sweets were huge, all was delicious, well cooked and served with genuine warmth. My only regret is I had to leave some of my sticky toffee pudding because I didn't have anymore room for it. Yes it was quiet but that meant we could eat and talk in a relaxed environment.Fabulous and thank you to the staff we will be spreading the word and we will be back.

We live in the village where the Penny Farthing is situated, therefore it is our local. If I am being brutally honest, it is an average place. Nothing is poor, with the notable exception of the service. I have been here 10+ times as it is just convenient, and the service is very poor every time, especially at lunch. We went in at 1 o'clock and waited at the bar, where you go to get placed at a table, for 10 minutes. Then a flustered looking women came over looking very unprofessional (lets just say another 2 buttons done up wouldn't hurt) and asked "Is everything OK for you?" which is the staffs code for "what do you want?" We asked if we could have lunch and she gave us permission to eat. At that very moment, no drinks or anything, she runs off to answer a bell. After around 5 more minutes, she comes back to sit us down and get us drinks. Considering it was very empty (10 people maximum) it took the food 15 minutes to arrive. The food is average and you will have a perfectly pleasant evening. It has a rather wide array of food and drinks which are pleasant. It's nothing special but as a local pub, it serves it's purpose well.

We arrived on a Thursday night. The place was virtually empty but the greeting was "are you looking to eat" with an uninviting manner. We said we would have a drink.. we sat at one of the many empty tables, furnished only with a small pile of worn and grubby beermats. The room was cheerless, with craggy bare stone walls, beige upholstery, one touch of colour in the large red fire extinguisher. Someone else approached the bar and was asked about "looking to eat " - yes - and "have you booked?" in a sharp tone.. the menues were on chalkboards, all at prices which would be reasonable in a smart restaurant in a city. But here, in a dreary room with sticky tables..no. Such a shame, as it would be so simple to make the place welcoming. It doesn't help that as you go in, you walk through a smell of old cooking oil. Dear owners, at least ask your staff to smile! (We left, went a few miles up the road and had a great meal - in a busy restaurant)

Went on a very sunny Sunday evening as it was too hot to cook and we were sick of BBQ!!! I know I know I will be moaning again soon when it rains. My girlfriend had heard good things about the place so we decided to try it out. It is situated in a very quite village. There were only three locals in the pub who made us feel welcome, the beer was good and the staff very friendly. There are plenty of meals to choose from, blackboards around the bar have the specials on, and there are a lot of them, there is also the printed menu. We opted for the Sunday roast. The food came very quickly, and there was plenty of it, melt in the mouth topside of beef and all the trimmings. Very pleasent surroundings and would definitely eat here again. Thanks to all of the staff.

After a long mornings work from 2am to 1pm I arranged to meet my wife for a chilled drink before heading home. We decided to meet and try out our local pub, The Lincoln Green as we understood it is under new owners and would like to support it.. Sadly on being asked if we were drinking only I was asked if we would go into the bar area. The lady was friendly and I have absolutely no issues with her as this is obviously(in my view) a very misguided policy. I informed her that we would not wish to do that as in the past we have found it cold with wooden floors which when the football is on makes it noisy. I have no issues with this in general as I enjoy watching football and make special trips to do so at pubs for the atmosphere but on this occasion myself and my wife just wanted a quiet, comfortable drink together. I explained this and added that the comfortable restaurant was totally empty. We were offered the chance begrudgingly to sit tucked around the corner as a large table(15 which soon turned to 8) was expected shortly. She declared that on this occasion we could but she had to state she couldn't promise in the future. I told her that we wouldn't waste our time trying in the future. We will just go straight to the CENTURION or HARROWS where we know we can sit in comfort and nice decoration for a quiet drink. Things I don't understand-1) if I was eating I would much prefer some atmosphere with some drinkers as opposed to an empty restaurant. 2) Had it been 11.30 with the possibility of a full restaurant I can understand not wishing to take tables but this was 2pm and totally empty. 3) we were not a noisy group who would be shouting and swearing and could spoil someone's dining experience 4) Surely a pub should be able to cater for diners, sports and football fans AND couples hoping for just a nice drink. Sadly, unless this policy changes we will not be back(unless to watch the football)
