Penny Black in Mole Valley

I recently visited Penny Black, and I was thoroughly impressed! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. The selection of drinks was fantastic, and the food was delicious—definitely a must-try! I can't recommend Penny Black enough for a great night out!

I met my godmother and decided to go to the penny black it was a good visit. It was very warm and cosy. I would recommend this place to eat or drink.

Went in to this pub today for the first time and it was amazing. Staff were great, Flo, Anthony and Matt were so attentive and served us at the table even whilst busy, the burger was amazing. We will definitely be going back

Another great experience. Went for Sunday roast recommended to upgrade to the Sunday sharer, wasn’t disappointed absolutely brilliant and will worth the money. Staff were excellent, whether it was management or not service was at the same excellent level.

Staff are friendly, pints are quite pricey but you pay for what you get, show live sport aswell

Came in on my birthday for lunch, and was over-the-moon grateful when the team brought out a brownie with a candle as a surprise. Thank you Anthony, Matt and George for making my day extra special! 10/10 recommend⭐️

Went as a group of 11 for someone's leaving do. It was lovely atmosphere and great service. Delicious food and a good selection. The sandwiches are huge.

Staff seem a but preoccupied with their own conversations or checking their phones. A manager appeared to just be walking around most of the time, talking on her phone and vaping outside. Food and drink was good, but service and cleanliness could easily be upped a notch.

Went to watch a Euro game. Place was packed and had to stand all the way through. Great atmosphere

Well kept pint of cask, a banging vegan burger and fantastic service from the gent behind the bar. can't ask for much more than that. will find me in the garden for more of the same this summer.

First time visit today - lovely Sunday roast (veggie), came out nice and hot, staff were friendly! Football was on but we still managed to have a catch up without it bring too noisy at all. Recommend

One last stop for a quick drink with a friend on his recommendation. No doubt this place has something to attract customers. Very nice atmosphere and the most I love outdoor seating under the canopy. Such cool feelings.

We came in for Mothers Day 2024 and I’m sorry to say that we were disappointed. It wasn’t at all busy when we arrived, although it picked up a little later and perhaps that should have been a sign. We had booked based on other Google reviews so maybe something has changed recently. Despite it being the busiest day at most food serving establishments, the kitchen were not at all prepared. No vegan roast dinners had been prepared the night before as they should have been and so I had to order something else or wait an undefined length of time. I was given the option to have a vegan roast with 2 plant burgers instead, which I accepted. My mums roast arrived first but she had no cutlery to start while we waited for our meals which took a little longer. When my vegan meal came (despite me clarifying ahead of time that all accompaniments were vegan) it came with a Yorkshire pudding. I was told this was vegan before asking them to double check and it turns out it wasn’t. I was also only given one burger and so without the Yorkshire (which I gave to my brother rather than waste) I had rather a lacking meal. On the plus side, my mum enjoyed her roast and my brother enjoyed his sausages. The staff were kind and friendly but unfortunately perhaps lacking knowledge in some areas. We were brought over the wrong bottle of wine, had no cutlery to start, some condiments requested were not given and the one dessert ordered took about 20 minutes to arrive. It was a real shame as we don’t get together outside of the house much and my mum is a huge fan of Mothers Day celebrations.

Great evening out, no complaints - would come back! The apple & pear crumble was particularly tasty and a really generous portion.

We tried the Nachos and the cheesy chips. Both tasty although the chips were a little too salty. My son found the double patty burger and found the pink onion a little overpowering. Great service and nice atmosphere.

Me and my son popped by to watch the Chelsea match, we was greeted as we walked in and then served quite promptly at the bar, the place was busy with people on a Saturday evening but the manager Anthony was great and managed to get us a table so we stayed for some food both having a burger got to say one of the nicest I’ve had in a while, great beer selection great atmosphere all round a decent boozer!! Also don’t let me forget the staff all very tentative and made sure everything was ok! Thank you guys!!

Great Vegan sunday lunch we try a different Pub every sunday for Lunch and this is up there with the best at reasonable prices - great service as well - Tip Large !!!

Food was phenomenal and clearly a popular place. It was a little too expensive for my liking as the place did give off a chain pub vibe and our server was working on his uni work 🙃 but I really did enjoy my visit and would go again!

Great burgers but lacking massively in the drinks department. I wanted a bloody Mary, but they had no Worcestershire sauce ! and then I asked for a bottle of champagne and they didn't have of that either but said I could have the one that was in the chiller being a different brand for £15 more and it wasn't even on the wine list. They should have honoured this bottle at the list price but wouldn't.

Great local pub! And the food was a solid 10. Was a little packed/loud because of the football but we still had a good time, and I got to watch part of the game haha. Definitely recommend!

The nicest pub in Leatherhead town.

Nice pub with good service and surprisingly good food. Quite a few people were watching football and the sound was a bit too loud, but it didn't bother us. Outside area looked nice too. There is no parking, but there is a car park down the road.

Ridiculously expensive in here. Band that played on the first Saturday of December really good. Mini fight broke out, so it was an eventful evening

Booked a table from 3pm yesterday and stated that we would have a dog with us, would be having food and wanted to watch the football, arrived to find a table reserved for me with a great view of the screen, was perfect for the dog and the food was excellent. Will definitely be going back!

This is a cosy pub, nicely decorated and good service. Tables cleared regularly. Recently expanded menu, with good selection and excellent food. Only downside, drinks are very expensive.

New to the area and the first time I came into the pub, they were very inviting and made me feel comfortable and at home. After checking other pubs in the area, I will always come back here because of how good the pub is.

Unfriendly, miserable bar staff with a negative attitude. Was looking forward to spending an afternoon here last Saturday with friends but left after one drink each. We won't be returning.

Recently came to the Penny Black with my family for lunch. The staff were very accommodating and professional. The food was lovely. We enjoyed a Good Friday meal here after visiting Polesden Lacey with our family. The table was reserved through the pub's booking system which worked well, and I had useful reminder texts/emails about the booking. It was a shame that the high chair I'd requested wasn't at the table on our arrival but it was not too much effort to grab it myself. The childrens menu is a little limited, but our two (7 years and 2 years) shared a mac and cheese from the 'light bites' menu which did the job. The adult's mains were nice, especially the plant burger that my wife extolled. The fish and chips kept my dad happily quiet, and similarly his gigantic crumble required all 5 adults to pitch in to finish it. The brownie dessert was an indulgence for both children and adults, and made for a sleepy drive home. My brothers steak bavette was honestly nothing special, and the root mash with the pie was heavy on the swede, but overall we all enjoyed the food. The bar staff were freindly and have now added the refreshing Gunner to the drinks menu... as the coffee grinder wasn't working. Thanks again team!

Best roast dinner I have ever had in a pub!! I have been to hundreds of pub's and this is on another level!! Only thing that is missing is cauliflower cheese as an extra in my opinion. Lovely staff and service aswell!!

Great atmosphere and service. In particular the champion behind the bar, with the red beard was exceptional. Nothing too much trouble. When he noticed my Shazam was not finding the song that was playing, he came over and let me know what it was. However, have a beer or a tea not the coffee 😊.

Really helpful staff- For the England Senegal game I booked for 8 people. In that time word got round my friend group and 24 of us turned up. I told my group that they will push outside, but I spoke to Matt and with his help and generosity with other customers we had a place for all 24 of us. Don’t think that they’ll do this for you, but they did help out a lot.. world class

Christmas drinkies at the Penny Black is a bit of a tradition, after Thai meal at lunchtime up the high street. Nice big pub, and no issues getting served quickly. Good selection of drinks and plenty of seating and table space.
