5 of us went for Mother’s Day lunch and we found everything to be fine okay the service for drinks were a bit slow but the food was fine and piping hot, beef very tender , lamb and pork also very good as other family members remarked no complaints whatsoever with the food , surroundings a bit dated but a really nice Sunday lunch

Terrible Sunday Lunch. Bland and tasteless. Frozen vegetables. Don’t think the stuffing ball had even been cooked and was absolutely tiny. Beef was very thickly cut and chewy. All just very stodgy and bland.

Went for Xmas lunch with friends, very disappointed with the lunch, cost £29.95, and for that I had pate, which was literally half a pack of pate which you’d buy in the supermarket ( the bread was nice) when lunch arrived it was a mound of mash potato with a soggy Yorkshire stuck on the top. The veg was practically non existent. I had literally two tiny ( and I really mean tiny) sprouts , 2 carrot batons, 4 green beans , 2 hard roasties, half a parsnip, tiny stuffing ball which I thought was a sprout to begin with . They did bring a bowl of peas. The gravy was tasteless and too thick. I couldn’t face the crumble then when it arrived. £7.80 for a glass of wine, it was the same wine Tesco sell for £7 for the bottle. Dec dated .

It’s nice enough meal nothing wrong just a bit bland nothing exciting. Great service fast and helpful. Was very loud in there that’s nothing to do with the establishment as it was busy and lay out was a bit dated.

So we went to celebrate a birthday for Sunday lunch, two Sunday’s ago.Arrived parked in car park. Went inside and I was surprised on the decor, very old fashioned, didn’t look as if much money had been spent on the place. The restaurant was a very big open plan room, reminded me a bit of an old fashioned ballroom in a hotel! Very very cold. Young girls serving with no clue what they needed to bring to the table, had to ask for mint sauce, apple sauce etc. A drink was ordered and asked without ice but was brought with ice. It was sent back. Food brought out at the same time, that was a positive. Little meat on our plates. Meat was placed on the plate with mash on top of it. Positive was the veg, ample veg brought out in separate dishes. All food was hot, also extra gravy brought out in jugs, which was also a positive. The food had little taste, the meat was over cooked, however mash and gravy was very nice. Felt that the dinner was slightly over priced by around £2 each. The place had no atmosphere and I had to keep my coat on until it got warmer when more people filled up the room. It was rather disappointing. I feel I’ve given a fair review with both positives and negatives mentioned. Won’t be returning. I very rarely go out for Sunday lunch and again I’ve been let down with the tasteless food and the cold and horrible decor of the room. Not great.

Visiting a relative in hospital and decided to have lunch nearby. Used to live in the area, and the Penny Farthing has always been decent when visited but this is the New Penny Farthing. I had a Sirloin which was cooked perfectly and my partner had the fillet which was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth. 20 of us went for a birthday meal for my nephews 18th birthday.. Well where do I start.. Staff really rude,food really bland and cold..I have never tasted garlic sauce like it,it tasted like flour and water no taste of garlic..My husband asked for Gammon with Egg and pineapple and they brought out Salmon..They thought he said Salmon..So why ask my husband if he wanted Egg or pineapple if they thought he said Salmon..Poor excuse from staff..Everyone was eating their food while my husband sat there and waited for his to arrive..20 minutes later Everyone had finished their food and my husband was still waiting,so he told them he no longer wanted it..They asked him did he want to take it home in a box..omg we are so disgusted..The place is very dated and the carpet looks like it was fitted in the 80,s..Never ever will we be returning to this place and I would not be recommending people to go here either..SHOCKING

Went here for a work colleague 70th birthday.... DISSATISFIED with service & food most meals were cold and were made to feel after we had eaten it was expected us to vacate pub... due to them closing 10pm tables cleared around us and just felt we were in the way of them setting up tables for following day... outside area was available as it was a pleasant night but it was like a kinder garden with children running around unsupervised no park area/play area for them.... also TOP TIP DONT BUY CHEAP STAKES they are tough & chewy infant iv bought better from aldi will never be going there again this is not the first time meals have been unsatisfactory

We took my mother there for her 88th birthday lunch and I cannot speak highly enough of the management, staff and quality of the food. We had not been before and will DEFINITELY go again. Thank you for being part of us creating wonderful family memories. You did yourselves proud.

really poor experience, they got the drinks order wrong twice, the nachos were soft, garlic bread burnt, sharing platter food was luke warm, main meals were awful, hanging skewers were cold and chewy, creamy garlic sauce was runny and tasteless and burger was undercooked,chicken skewers were burnt, and to cap off a really bad experience we were asked to leave because they needed the table for another group….

Very disappointing experience on Thursday lunchtime. Our Christmas party was booked a couple of months ago when we were told we would be seated in the centre of the restaurant. We arrived on Thursday 15th December to find that we were to be seated on two tables right at the entrance. The food was fine, service ok, if a little slow to start, but any pleasure was far outweighed by the location of our table. The doors were constantly in use and we were hit by icy blasts every time the doors were opened. It was so cold that several of us resorted to wearing our coats. When I raised the problem with a member of staff, she was very rude and said she couldn’t help the draughts. If they must sit people directly in front of these doors, and With outside temperatures barely above freezing, surely a screen or heater positioned to combat the draughts is not too much to ask for!

My Mam and I decided to go back here on Saturday night for a meal. We'd been to the old place about ten years ago, and found it a bit dingy and dark, and very much like a backstreet pub that served food. Well, all that has changed dramatically. I called at the last minute to book a table having made an on-the-spot choice, and they were good enough to fit us in on what was going to be a busy Saturday night. When we walked in to the place, the difference was night and day from our previous visit. It's now changed into one large room, bright and airy, with a beautiful bar stretching across one wall. The seats are comfy, and there are enough large tables to cope with any size of party. In fact, there were two parties going on while we were there. We were seated straight away, and our waitress came over very quickly to take a drinks order. She was kind enough to make a latte with one shot of coffee for my Mam, and I had a lovely apple juice. The latte was the best my Mam had ever had, as good as her custom Starbucks order. We quickly choose our food order: my Mam adores Fish and Chips, and immediately spotted that on the well varied menu. I chose the specialty hanging skewer, with Chicken, Peppers, and Red Onion. I also chose the creamy garlic sauce, and it was lovely to have a choice of Hand Cut Chips, Fries, or Sweet Potato Fries for no added extra. My Mam ordered a side salad as well, and again the waitress was kind enough to take out the tomato from it, and was knowledgable enough to confirm there was no salad dressing on it. The food didn't take long to arrive. The Fish was large, well-cooked, very fresh tasting, and so good my Mam ate almost all of the batter too, which she never does elsewhere. The Chips were terrific, exactly as she likes them, properly cooked and tasty. The salad was also exactly as she likes it, lettuce, cucumber, sweetcorn, and red onion. Very fresh and crisp and delicious. I think that the star of the show was definitely my hanging skewer though. A cute metal frame supporting the skewer above a plate with my sweet potato fries on, and a mini-saucepan holding the creamy garlic sauce. You have a choice of various oils or sauces, and skewers with chicken, chorizo, and beef, and they are a decent size with plenty of meat on. My fries were perfectly cooked - too many places burn the sweet potato - and tasty, and the skewer was fantastic. The chicken in the skewer was juicy and tender, and the peppers and onion were a delicious addition. I loved the sauce and I'm looking forward to choosing other sauces when I go back. We were both too full for dessert, but the menu looked spectacular. I'm definitely going to bring the rest of the family here and try more because it all sounds incredible, and if the quality is as good as our last meal it's very well worth it. The other items on the menu have managed to lodge themselves in my head and I can't wait to try their burgers, mixed grill, pasta, and other skewers! The waiting staff were wonderful to us; very efficient and responsive to our requests, nothing was too much trouble. This was a fantastic experience, and we'll definitely be back. This week. With more people.

disgusting customer service and staff rude, was hoovering around us and talking in a huddle and looking over after spending quiet a lot of money in a large birthday gathering. food was ok nothing special. will definitely not be going back and i have heard of many other bad experiences from other customers.

The menu has a wide selection to keep everyone happy. All meals were good, particularly the pasta, but the chicken skewer was a little small for the price. Desserts were generous in size and good. Service was relatively fast on a busy evening but friendliness of staff was a little mixed with one server almost throwing our desserts onto the table. Shame as this wasn't the case for all staff but that's what you remember when you drive home!

Asked the Penny Farthing to organise a wake ......from start to finish Melanie and her team were thoughtful and considerate which at a difficult time was really appreciated. The venue was spotless, the set up ideal and the buffet in terms of quality, quantity and presentation was outstanding. On the day nothing was too much trouble and I cannot thank you enough for helping me. Would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Penny Farthing and will certainly be back soon to enjoy the food and hospitality under different circumstances.

This was to be our first visit to the pub and hope it won’t be the last firstly my friend and I were well pleased at our meals , and decided to sit in the little. Waiting area and while there I had the unfortunate happening , on my way back from the toilet. I walked into the corner of the low table gave mynself a real bump, so much so that blood was pouring from the wound , with in moments the staff came. To help me I woukd like to thank the young lady who helped to stem the bleeding and cleaned the area for me as I did not know where to start as I could not reach the area. The young lady sugessed I went to the hospital , which I did but thanks. To her she. Was such a help just wanted her to know that She went behind. Went to the new penny farthing seemed ok when we went in , the waitress came over no manners at all really looked like she couldn’t be bothered to be in her job, we ordered food it came but we were one meal short when asked about it we had attitude saying we didn’t order it in the first place and stormed off the manageress then came out and said they waitress was upset and apologised the food was nice so let it go , we paid up and left on way to the car the waitress then finished her shift and gave us the most outrageous looks as she passed us as if we’d done something wrong , think this certain member of staff either needs training ng or a new job, the other waitress that came for the desserts on the other was pleasant polite and couldn’t do enough waitress spoiled the evening but apart from her the food was nice and the entertainment was good

Popped in for a quick drink. We do this regularly, hoping to find an improvement, as it's our nearest pub. Gave up on the awful wine, cocktails and food after several attempts over the last 12 months. No real ale as usual, so won't be back.

I just love going to eat here as the chips are amazing, just like you would find in newspaper with sausage in batter! The menu is not huge but it’s proper pub grub. The sandwiches are awesome, BLT my favourite. Faultless quick service too.

I was invited to a former member of staff retirement do one evening having retired from the organisation a few years previously. This was a buffet/disco type event. The buffet food turned out to be very nice with a wide selection of the usual type of dishes. The usual alcoholic drinks were available eg draught and bottle beers and spirits but there was no non alcoholic or low alcohol beers or lagers available.....very disappointing considering that this industry has taken off with demand. The disco was also far too loud making conversations extremely difficult. I did ask for the volume to be reduced but this request fell on deaf ears.

We had a birthday lunch on a Monday. The atmosphere is great and very welcoming. The food was fantastic and was presented well. Bit of a confusion with the soup but easily sorted. Would recommend this place for a pub lunch or evening meal.

We went there on the off chance just to give it a try. We arrived half an hour before they started serving food but they took our order and we had our food quickly - before they were supposed to start serving.

Beer was in good condition but disappointed with the food (Sunday lunch). Only three choices and they had run out of one. I had battered cod which was more batter than fish. Asked for a red wine and they had sold out the previous night. Poor management - there is a Coop store immediately opposite where they could have gone and bought a case of red wine! Will not go back.

What a lovely pub. A warm friendly welcome, place was spotlessly clean, nicely laid out and inviting. I met with friends and we ordered from the lunch menu, having sandwiches and paninis (chips were extra but for a very low price). The food arrived promptly and was clearly freshly made. Both drink and food orders were taken at the table which was nice. Very very reasonable prices. Service was fast which was good as we went during our school lunch break. I'd highly recommend it here and we'll definately be back.

On initial impressions as I walked through the door I could have quite happily turned around and left as the decor was a little like an OAP social club. I was glad I didn’t though as the meal was great.

Came in for lunch. We were the annoying customers that came in just as lunch was finishing but the staff still gave us excellent service! Meals were great, real home cooked chips, not frozen rubbish! Nachos for starters were great. Meals arrived quickly, piping hot. Will be coming back!

This was the worst sunday lunch I have ever had , everything was frozen - parsnips , green beans ,carrots , yorkshire pudding and cabbage, couldnt even cut through the parsnip it was rock solid, and bisto gravy ! At a cheeky charge of £8.95. Tasteless food ! The only thing thats homecooked here is the chips,, I think the chef should concentrate more on the other foods rather than the chips. Grubby place, and the service was not much better .whoever is running this place , get your chef to cook his own food , invest in a duster and teach your staff a little customer service .

Yeah, absolutely gorgeous food only 6 moths ago which has now become nothing but ordinary. Its ok for a quick lunch but not the kind of place that you would have a family meal to be honest. Having said that, I don't think I would pass it by if I was hungry.

My wife and I went here for a Sunday lunch. I went here about 7 years ago and has since had revamp. This is not a carvery, a menu as served in the week. As it was Sunday we ordered a roast, beef. My wife had a children's and I had an adults. Plenty of veg and meat. Lovely staff and fast service.

I had such high expectations for this place and was excited for the area but unfortunately it is simply o.k. My family and I ate here a month or so ago and the food was average at its best. We have returned for a drink since and the beer garden was great in all fairness. The tables inside are often sticky though and could do with a wipe. The Sunday dinners looked quite nice and customers seemed happy. Staff seem friendly.

Waitress was quite rude food was lovely was planning to stay all day and have a drink in the beer garden but the waitress was quite arrogant so went somewhere else. He needs more training with customer service

Had lunch here on Sunday, been to this many times over the yrs. Pub is a very friendly local establishment with a good ambience. We both had a beef diner which was good n hot plenty of beef and all the trimmings. A good diner at a good price .

Been to this pub more times than I remember, the range of beers and other drinks is very good and regularly they have live music. Highly recommended.

Me and my partner just popped in for lunch. We have not been here for a meal since the last occupants. And what a pleasant surprise, the pub has got character again. Very friendly staff. Lovely barmaid and waitress. The food was fab,I had hunters chicken and my partner had lasagne both meals where very tasty. I would highly recommend the penny farthing again.

Visited twice in the past three weeks...a Saturday afternoon and a Wednesday evening.

Called in for a meal with my family and we all really enjoyed me and my missis both had the steak and it was cooked perfect and tasted lovely and kids enjoyed they meals as well. Also got a cracking beer garden so you can just go and chill after food and have a nice pint.

Friends recommended it.But i wont be going back. Average meal. Steak and Ale pie was very watery. Peas tasted like they had been warmed up several times. Chips were luke warm.

Easy to locate and plenty of parking on site. Deco of the facility was completed to a high standard and looked very upper class. Service was very good with polite/ friendly staff. Cooked dinner was amazing and to a very high standard and dessert. Excellent options available for kids to have something other than cooked dinner. Would recommend and visit again

I went here on a Thursday night with 2 friends, I have never been before and it's been years since my friends went. We found a spacious clean and friendly pub. There is table service for drinks and food, although there is an area where people were just drinking. We ordered 2 starters and 3 main meals along with drinks. The serving staff appeared young but friendly and helpful. The food was served quickly and it was tasty and reasonably priced. I would definately go back.

Just had Sunday lunch for 12 family members. All thought food was fabulous, meat very tender, plenty of everything and really reasonable prices. Staff helpful and hardworking. Will definitely return.

I feel like this pub deserves a fresh review as it is now has different owners. So please ignore my old previous review as it will be taken down. First off, my family and I visited the Penny Farthing on a Saturday and ordered food from their lunch time menu. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was delicious. None of us on the table had any complaints, we were very satisfied for a reasonable price too. The new owners have redone the place and it now feels a lot more like a restaurant style pub. It's a bit disappointing to see that they have removed the pool table and dart board but that's a small price to pay for the fact of how professional the place now seems. If you were put off by the previous owners, give the place another chance because they definitely deserve it. Especially if you intend to go there for food!

Called after reading it had new management, but what a disappointment. Although the place is clean and fresh the lunch time menu was a let down with poor choices. OK if you want a burger or a sandwich but not much else. Would have been nice to have maybe Lasagne or gammon on the menu. Don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

Recently had a birthday dinner here with friends. Prices and food are ok but it was so noisy we couldn't hear each other speak. We had to wait over an hour for our meals, too long especially when you haven't been told there was a long wait on food. The restaurant has been refurbished and is nicely decorated and clean. I don't think we'll be returning for a while, the noise and wait for food didn't make for a relaxing evening.

The pub has recently changed hands the old dragon that ran it previously has almost run it in to the ground, how refreshing it is now to go in their for a civilized drink, the menu looks good and I intend to try it out, if you went during the previous period of mismanagement do not be put off.

My Wife and me called in just for a quick lunch and was not sure it was open due to the for sale sign outside , Well the meal was ok and plenty of it but the premises were not as clean as I would have liked it to be , The one girl that was serving was very polite and pleasant well done to her.I Hope whoever takes over this establishment can turn it around it has potential.....

Boisterous, loud, gobby woman. Looked ok from the outside, prices were steap, drinks were warm. Terrible experience, would never go back here.

Recently moved to the area so me and my husband are looking for a new local. From the outside this place looks rather nice but it all changed when we walked in. First off I was dismayed that the few people who were there were watching Jeremy Kyle. After a few minuted I realised why. I think they were getting pointers on how to behave!! The woman behind the bar and the three customers who were there spent their time calling people on the phone to argue with them and by all accounts were also having heated arguments with people on social media. I really didn't want to know about it but they were so loud reading the messages that I had no other choice to hear!!Now, the drinks. We ordered a pint of shandy each which was warm and flat, and I had to pay £6.60 for that bath water!! The place itself wasn't very clean and still had deflated balloons about the place from a party I presume they had there on the weekend. Really, how difficult is it to pop a few balloons and bin them?All in all, a very poor place but if you are a fan of Jeremy Kyle then I am sure you would love it!!

Chips seemed to smell of Chinese food as if you had warmed up last nights Chinese!Egg seemed partially cooked; ham cheap stuff rolled up on plate. Horrible meal cannot tick a minus star

Been to the penny farthing a few times now an the landlady and all other staff are great. Very welcoming, the pub has a great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place. It's the best pub around by far

Was not happy with food looks like warmed up left overs the people seemed so stuck up first time I've gone there n will not be going there again worse place I've ever been 2 my pint was flat n disgusting

I recently was on holidays from Florida and visiting my family. We went to the penny farthing and it was awesome. Good friendly atmosphere with amazing landlords. Marie and Mike are wonderful.

Not too distant I chose here for an evening meal as I was unable to cook at home. Received a warm friendly welcome on entry from what turned out to be both Landlady and her partner who introduced themselves making the visit more personal. Good choice on menu with some personal additions being catered for. The meal was both tasty and piping hot on request, something I find hard to get with larger more expensive places - a bonus on that alone! Following my meal I was invited to stay for their evening entertainment that turned out to be a singing artist. Great end to the evening. Would recommend and return.

I been going to the penny farthing for a few months and it's a very welcome place to drink have food the staff are great the land lady has been brilliant with me and all my mates I have enjoyed meny nights up there also the pool table is free which u don't see very often I recommend this pub to eny one also good a very good beer garden out back
