We were staying in Broadstairs for the weekend and decided to try this Chinese restaurant on the Saturday evening as was only 5 minutes from where we were staying. We were welcomed by Grace who is so lovely. The restaurant is spotless. We opted for the set meal for 2 people. We were down in Broadstairs for the weekend and the usual restaurant we go to on a Friday evening was fully booked because it was Folk Week (Morris dancers around every corner). We had seen this restaurant from the pub across the road and always wondered what it would be like as we love Chinese food. My husband popped over and booked a table for the Friday evening. He explained that I was in a wheelchair but the lovely lady (I think her name is Grace) said that it was a small restaurant and not really wheelchair friendly but if I could get up three steps she would book the table immediately in front. That was fine for me as I can walk a little way. When we arrived she had booked the first table as you go in and helped me up the three steps and sat me down. We folded up my wheelchair and she very kindly put it in a corner out of the way. The menu in here is very extensive and as we were not sure what we were ordering we opted for a set meal. This started with a selection of things including seaweed, prawns on sezame toast, dumplings, spring rolls and ribs and it was delicious. We then had thin pancakes with cut up lamb, hoi sin sauce, cucumber and spring onions, again absolutely delicious.! The main course was egg fried rice, a chicken dish, a beef dish and sweet and sour vegetables. This was all washed down with a bottle of Chardonnay. The bill was something like £50.00 and Grace helped me back into my wheelchair. Highly recommended as the food is gorgeous but you need to book as the restaurant is small and fills up quickly. We will definitely be going back.

We are regular visitors to Broadstairs, down every few weeks. We make a point of eating here if we can. (We used to live in Hong Kong, so we know our Chinese food!) This is undoubtabley the best Chinese restaurant on the island. The food is outstanding, even though, like most restaurants it has been closed for easting in for the last 14 months due to the Pandemic, however they have changed to being a very successful takeaway, which we have used several times during lockdown. When you get inside, the décor is 1970's Pub Mock Tudor, with Cantonese flourishes, give it another 20 years and you'll have film crews inside. Exceptional food. well worth the visit

This was our first take away since the crisis, and my goodness it was worth the wait.As ever wonderful food. The charm of Grace in her new Covid safe environment. The spicy courgettes, chilli beef, kung-po chicken were superb. Looking at the other comments the old fashioned building could be more attractive but who cares. This beats all the dubious little "cash only" chinese takeaways that manage to get a full meal ready in 10 minutes, and the extra £10 or so is worth every penny. Not a grain of rice left. See you next Friday Grace!

Six of us went to The Peninsula, on a wet Tuesday evening. Its a large tired looking building with ample parking. Greeted and shown to the bar area, very comfortable seating not typical oriental. We moved into the main eating area which again is not typical. Handed the menus and made our choice, with the assistance of the waitress. She adapt the menu to our requests. Nothing was a problem. Two of the set menus and personal choice. Peking and Cantonese, a vegetarian platter. Drinks were served, the food arrived starters full of flavour and large portions from deep fried Frogs legs to Crab soup all of us enjoyed what we had. The next course of Aromatic Duck succulent with again plenty for four, Veggie spring rolls which were above ample portions. No Rush service, which fitted our mood. The main course arrived non of use had expected what came the smell and flavours was beautiful Chilli and Ginger was there but not over powering to spoil the flavours of the meats and vegetables. Ample rice and noodles to accompany the dishes. For once in an oriental establishment nothing was left we ate every last portion no over sized rice dishes to go back. We have a very lovely experience with the food, atmosphere and staff, who we found out was Grace the owner. I would not hesitate but to recommend the PENINSULA to anyone.

Chinese food not loaded with MSG, piping hot, big portions, I came here with my dad last night (Thurs), we had Mixed Hors D'Oeuvres and I was particularly impressed at the non-soggy spring rolls. And then we followed with some singapore rice (quite spicy\curried, very tasty), and noodles and we shared a sizzling seafood dish (lovely mussels and prawns) and a chicken and a beef dish, with a bottle of Chardonnay and a coffee I think it came to £65, very reasonable and I had that lovely feeling throughout the evening and night that comes from eating great food. Waitress is very dedicated and hard working and that seems to be the ethos of the place. Thank you Peninsula and I will be back again.

We went to this restaurant as it was just around the corner from where we were staying. It wasn't very busy (but we had booked as there were 7 of us). A warm but unfussy welcome, drinks served promptly. Whilst the menu might look a standard Chinese menu, as did the food when it arrived, oh my, it was fantastic. Could not believe the flavours, perfect textures, so good. Chilli beef the best I have ever eaten (and I have worked extensively across the Far East). A traditional restaurant, with fortune cookies to finish which the youngsters thought great fun. Go there before it becomes too crowed, a hidden gem in St Peter's.

I went onto Trip advisor to find the best rated Chinese restaurant in Thanet. Recent comments scored The Peninsula way above the rest. As we eat out a lot, my wife and I were looking forward to our evening out. Upon arrival, parking was easy. A food hygiene rating of 5 was visible on the entrance door (a welcoming sight). We were taken to a lounge bar area for a pre dinner drink which was nice. It was obvious that the regulars were out as everyone appeared to be on first name terms. The ambience was ok but very dated. We selected from the menu in the lounge bar area. Whilst drinking we were given a dish of Prawn Crackers which was a nice touch. We were taken to the restaurant area when our starters were ready. The restaurant covers approx. 37 and there were 17 people in total seated. To our disappointed the Mixed Starters was both poor in quantity and quality. We had one small triangle of Prawn Toast each, the 4 pieces of spare ribs were approx. 1 inch each in length and so on. For my main, I ordered the Fillet Steak in Black Pepper Sauce. This dish alone was £11.50. Again the portion served was poor and the meat very tough (you could never ever eat it with chopsticks). All in all, the food was extremely disappointing. To make matters worse, from behind a mobile screen just feet away from our table, we could hear on several occasions leftovers being scrapped off plates presumably into a rubbish bin. We went back into the lounge bar for coffee which was nice and relaxing. Further complimentary coffee was offered as well. Then without exaggeration approx. 120 pieces of cutlery was tipped onto a towel on the bar where the staff dried them. Again not particularly good. The owner Grace was very attentive, pleasant and friendly. Obviously the local loyal customers love The Peninsular but for my wife and I, it is very average and over priced. It is unlikely that we will go back which is a shame. One other note, the toilets are situated down a flight of 14 stairs which could be troublesome for some.

As alway the welcome is great the decor is like stepping back in time to the eighties but the food is very good the service it not fast but this is because all the food is cooked from fresh and it is worth the wait, even the take away side of it you are given a time slot well worth a visit if you can get in the weekend is busy but midweek is usually ok great food great people.

Booked here for a birthday treat. This was the first time I had been to the peninsula. Had a great meal in an 'interesting' ambiance - not your usual Chinese restaurant, more like a quaint English tea shop! Thoroughly lovely evening and I'd certainly go back again.

I have frequented this restaurant as well as others over the past year but the friendly, personal service and quality of the food at the Peninsula stands out by far. I have always felt very welcomed an the service is prompt. I've never had to wait longer than average for the food to arrive and staff are always able to recommend dishes if I fancy something a little different. The menu itself contains all the regulars but also certain dishes I have not experienced elsewhere which are decent in size, hot, not greasy/salty/stuffed with MSGs and reasonably priced. I find some earlier comments give an unfair representation of this superb little restaurant.

We booked this on the basis of being the top ranked Chinese in the area and it did not disappoint in any way. We were down for the weekend from London with 4 kids. The food was faultless and the portions were large. The kids are fussy eaters but they devoured every dish. The seaweed was crispy and not oily at all. The spring rolls were hot and crispy with succulent vegetables inside. The Peking Duck was crispy and very tasty. Our favourite main dish was the shredded chilli beef although this was not hot but sweet. The decor is dated but that does not detract, The service was excellent. We will definitely return.

Felt a bit like the 70s. Phoned 2 days before to book a table and upon arrival had to wait 40 mins ( was Easter Friday). Food average but didn't feel professional

Visited England a couple of weeks ago, and my hosts pretty much insisted that we visit their favorite Chinese restaurant. Now, I know why. We didn't have reservations, but Grace (the owner) told us we'd be able to dine after a short wait. It's a very small place with a comfortable lounge area and maybe 12-15 tables in the dining room. We were seated in the lounge and enjoyed a cocktail or two while waiting for our table. Surprisingly, our orders were taken while still in the lounge. I work in the restaurant business, and I've never seen this, but it was a very nice touch. When we were seated at our table, our starters were already there and delicious. I wanted a change to the item I ordered (chicken with Chinese mushrooms and bamboo shoots). I requested some heat and it was delivered. While not overwhelming, there was a perfect amount of spicy heat added to the dish. When Grace checked on our meal, I not only complimented her on the dish, but also on the chopsticks. In the US, I've only ever been issued wooden chopsticks that are still attached at the end, but these were different, some sort of heavy plastic or porcelain. Anyway, after the meal, Grace brought me a set of those chopsticks to take home with me. It was a small gesture, but immensely gratifying. I hope to visit again one day. You should make the effort to find Peninsula and be treated better than you are at home with awesome food to boot. Thanks Grace!

Decided to try this restaurant for the first time in a long time. Very slow service despite not being busy at first (7pm booking) and quite ordinary menu. Seated behind a screen so couldn't see staff to get their attention until they came out which was not good. Small portion of ribs and not a lot of chicken in the main compared to veg. Not cheap and on the whole not worth the drive and therefore no alcohol!! Will stick to the New China in town in future...

The best Chinese restaurant in Thanet. Fantastic food, friendly staff with the added bonus of beautifully laundered and starched table clothes and napkins. Try the deep fried squid with spiced salt, alongside the duck with orange, a firm favourite for us! The feasts are good value too!

Although this restuarant appears dated don't be fooled! It is authentic, atmospheric and perfectly inkeeping with the meal. The food is devine, well cooked, delicious in every way and well presented. We had a set meal which was perfect, not too much or too little. It is served at a pace that ensures you enjoyed each course. The staff were friendly, polite but not invasive. I would totally recommend you visit this lovely little place, you wont be disappointed.

This very Chinese restaurant has to have all the praise in the world. It was decked out with all the Chinese paintings, ornaments, and fish tanks. The tables were fully furnished with lovely pink tablecloths, chopsticks, and a big lazy susan. Our waitress was the owner and we talked to her nearly all night inbetween eating her fabulous food. The egg fried rice, prawns, chilli beef, chicken noodles, sweet and sour chicken, prawn satays, and crispy duck were to die for and very tasty too.All the family were overwhelmed how good the food was compared to other Chinese we have every week.As we were on holiday in Broadstairs I wish this restaurant was nearer but it will be first on our visit or holiday again. We all love you GRACE for your food and hospitality.

Well worth a visit for great food in a relaxed atmosphere. We had the Chef's feast for 5 & it did not let us down. The chicken & melon is a superb dish enjoyed by both the adults & children. Service was laid back, which may not be to everyones taste. Large portions which fed 5 adults & 3 children with plenty left to take home. Will visit again for sure.

We don't use this place enough. We came here twice recently, once with my brother and sister-in-law and again with my step daughter and step son. Both times we had the Chef's Special, which was wonderful, though different each time. The wine was good, and it was great to have a relaxed meal without feeling rushed. We were in there for 4 hours the 2nd time, and didn't know where the time went!

We were lured by the high rating; a friend had also been and did not recall any problems (although it was 'rather expensive'). It started well - the reception area looked quite posh, and we were greeted cordially. As they had no Mao Tai ('too expensive now'), we tried to order the other Chinese liquor on the menu as an aperitif... 'No, we don't have'. OK, back to Western staples. For the meal though we'll have a Tsingtao. 'No, we don't have, no Chinese alcohol'. OK, just a basic Spitfire then. 'No we don't have now, only Masterbrew'. What about the cider? 'No, we don't have'. Hmm, so much for the menu. (Some of the desserts we ordered later were also 'not available'.)Our group included one vegan and one ovo-lacto-pesco-vegetarian, so as normal we asked for suggestions and after they'd consulted the chef/kitchen, we were told what was OK for each one. The vegan dish then arrived with egg, shrimp etc. all over. We explained to the waitress (who evidently hadn't been told, and didn't really seem to understand what vegan meant), so they replaced it very promptly - at such times one always wonders whether they simply pick the stuff out, but we didn't want to cause trouble. The aubergine balls were very nice, although the vegan who'd ordered them on the understanding they'd be OK wasn't convinced they were actually egg-free. And at the end, as there were no obviously suitable options for dessert, the vegan ordered a coffee with liqueur... which came full of cream. The meat food was all OK, although nothing particularly special. The frogs' legs tasted a bit salty/muddy.At the end, the bill was quite high, as expected. We were also kept waiting for at least 5-10 minutes (it felt longer) while the owner chatted to another guest (presumably a 'regular') with credit card machine in hand. There was nobody else in the restaurant. Our conclusion was that if this was the service they provide when not under pressure, we didn't want to risk coming back when they had a full house. Overall, given the number of items 'unavailable' and the appalling treatment of the vegan, we felt quite disappointed.

Grace is just the most welcoming host and we feel like family when we visit. The food is very tasty with Egg Foo Young banished to microwaveable take away joints elsewhere. Lovely authentic dishes and quite large portions so you can get away with less and prices are competitive. Chilli Beef very tasty and chicken with sweet hot peanut sauce served cold so quite different. Crispy salty courgette georgous. So much better than an eat all you can banquet and a great experience altogether.

We have been eating here for about 14 years and have never had anything but a superb meal. Grace and Jackie are like good friends. We have brought all our family and friends here and all love it - including our daughter and son-in-law who were living in Hong Kong at the time and who praised the Peninsula food highly. We first tried it because a taxi driver recommended it as the restaurant he took many of his fares to. Try it!

We ate here with friends at the weekend having never been before. When we got there we were shown into a bar area where we had a drink and told to choose our food. When the starters were ready we were taken through to our table. The decor is quaint and we thought that actually added to the ambience. The lady serving us was really nice and friendly and accommodating regarding my husbands allergy. The food was superb. Really fresh tasting and everything was really tasty. My favourite were the fried courgettes! So nice! We had quite a lot of food between the 4 of us-2 bottles of wine and the men had about 3 or 4 beers each and bill worked out at about £70 per couple which was well worth the money. We will definitely be going back!

My family & I have been visiting Grace & Jackie who run the restaurant for about 15yrs now. We went again last month and as always, the food was EXCELLENT! We had mixed hors deurves to start, crispy duck & pancakes (yum) followed by Lamb in garlic sauce, twice cooked pork and salted courgette which was absolutely delicious! Good choice of beers/wines and service impeccable. All in all, I don't think we have found any other Chinese restaurant as good as this one in the area so will continue to visit and recommend to others.........just don't be put off by the slighted dated decor!

We popped in for a takeaway, first time here. We decided just to have a couple of starters so had the sesame prawn toast & chicken satay on skewers to share between us & a pancake roll each. The portions were more than generous. The prawn toast had real prawns and was delicious. The chicken satay was absolutely amazing. Plump tender chicken & the satay sauce was gorgeous! Struggled to eat our pancake roll as never expected the portions to be quite so big, however they were also lovely. None of the food was greasy as the toast & pancake rolls often can be from the Chinese restaurants. Can't praise them enough, we shall definitely return *****
