Penguin Fish Bar in Wycombe

Having lost the habit of having takeaway fish and chips, I went back last Saturday 26th October and was very impressed. - Very attentive and courteous staff. I ordered it for 7.15 and it was ready to collect - No queuing - Generous portions. My wife had haddock and I had cod; both delicious - beautifully prepared in a crisp batter. More chips than we needed - we may have a single portion between us next time - which will be very soon!

£4.60 for a so called large chips. Was expecting Tom kerridge to be cooking them for that price. 2 starts for the crispy bits as the bottom.

Bang average at best. The Chips was cooked to death, pie give the extra 2 stars.

£13 for "large" cod. Really wasnt, however tasty and batter crispy. Chips were awful. Overcooked and old. Never thought Id say it, but I prefer Smarts

We where looking for a good Fish and Chips restaurant to eat in and foud this one on Google. Good decision to go there. Fish was cooked perfectly. Bacon burger was very delicious too. My wife tried a stake and kidney pie for the first time and loved it! So it's a 10/10

Food was great tasting. We visited at a busy time and it seemed a bit chaotic with about a dozen orders being processed at the same time from a range of people eating in, some telephoning orders, and most coming for takeaway like us. Reasonable price though the rock was quite a small portion.... The chips were big and juicy with a crisp fried outside - perfect!

Totally disappointed with this place. We drove from Uxbridge to Marlow as we had read a newspaper article that it was one of the best fish and chips restaurants in the area and got great reviews. We should not have bothered and should have gone with our gut and walked out when we seen the place it’s very random and didn’t feel clean. The food was awful we order fish and chips and the fish was so greasy and not much fish it was super thin, the chips were equally as bad and my husband commented to me that their oil could do with a change. As we were trying to eat a guy came in who seemed to be a regular and the staff member told him that they are stuggling due to the increase in costs of everything. He mentioned oil had doubled in price which is probably why they aren’t changing it. We ate less than half of our meal and left when paying the £30 meal they never even asked if everything was ok with our food. Fish was thin and soaking in oil and batter was dark in colour the chips were hard and stale and also dark brown in colour. I’ll be avoiding this place in future along with the other recommendations in the article that we were planning to trying. Absolutely rotten. Had to buy a bottle of water and fizzy sweets on the way home to get rid of the taste.

Simply the worst fish and chips I've ever had. I couldn't even eat it, chips must have been sat there for hours and the fish was like chewing a boot. Had a funny smell to it also.

Piping hot fish cooked to order with generous portion of crisp chips, topped of with mushy peas, salt, vinegar and tartar sauce to your own taste. What is there not to like?

I ordered a saveloy . It was as tough as old boots and must have been in the glass heater for about a month. Never had such a dreadful saveloy. We also had a fish cake, which again should have been in a museum. Chips were very average. All in all very disappointing, I certainly would never return .

I popped in for the first time earlier this evening to order a kebab, chips, and drink. When I realised I'd forgotten my purse at home, I offered to go back and fetch it. However, the kind staff insisted that I enjoy my dinner first, and drop off the money at a later date. I was really touched. I managed to pay them by bank transfer when I got home and sat down to my delicious meal. I ordered a medium, but the portion was so generous I could't finish it all! Absolutely delicious, lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, and really kind and generous staff. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Traditional fish and chips restaurant in Marlow, located just opposite Sainsbury’s. The shop has been around for over 16 years. A must in your to do list if you are a fan of traditional British fish and chips.

Tender and delicious haddock, hearty and lovely chips. It’s a Fish and Chips takeaway. If you’re looking for fish and chips in Marlow, look no further.

The cod was very tasty but the chips let it down they had been sitting too long went dry and hard no salt or vinegar when asked and replied don't know but service was spot on and a lovely chippy.

Friendly staff however One of the Worst meals i have ever had. AVOID. Microwaved pasty, soggy and tasteless, weren't sure if the chicken nuggets were actually chicken, fish was cold. On the outside it looks nice but on the inside the vibe changes completely.

I am a vegan, so I had to have a baked potato with beans. Not much to go wrong really you’d think, except the fact that it was luke warm. The fish and chips the other three had in our group were passable, but the chips were disappointing, a bit like cardboard. Poor sized portion too-why skimp on chips when they’re so cheap to make!

Terrible fish & chips, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

We tried cod and chips, chicken kebab with salad, Jacket potato with tuna mayo and everything turned out to be quite good. If we are in the area we would definitely try them again especially the kebab. My wife is not a kebab person but that day she did not share it with me. It took a while to get the meal out but it was because it was being freshly cooked and hence tasted really good. Thumps up for the small business who did everything right with the meal.

i havnt eatten here for a while ,the first time i came back the fish and chips were good and very tast y.the second time i brought fish and chips from here they were very bad ,tasted very stale and BLAND no flavour at all .the fish was not crispy and also tasted bland ,was very disappointed .had to literally throw the whole meal away. which i was not happy with. as i wasted money, normally love to here from here, but from now on, i dont think i will, if they serve fish and chips like that which is a shame .

Visited this chip shop at lunchtime whilst down from London for the day. Best chips ever!! I had sausage and chips hubby had Cornish pasty and chips, had medium portion , plenty each and more, chips were restaurant standard (best we’d had) like triple cooked chips. Not one bit greasy and lovely and hot. Priced very good value, the lady and service was first class, so friendly and and polite and professional, even sent me with “a few for the road” for waiting. I would not normally write reviews esp for a one/off stop for fish n chips, however this exceeded my expectations.

The Penguin is not great, but in the area where I live it's the only choice that delivers. I ordered and paid for 2 portions of Fish and Chips about 10AM for a delivery at 7PM. This was done as we were out and by placing the order we knew that dinner was covered and we didn't need to go shopping that day. Remarkably at 10 past 7 they emailed 'Order Cancelled' - with no 'sorry about telling you this after we'd said we'll deliver,' or anything else. Even the lamest of excuses would have shown some effort towards their customer. Very disappointed!

Whilst probably not the worst fish and chips, they were certainly the most 'bland' I have tasted. I guess I could have asked for more salt and vinegar, but I didn't know how little had been added. Even the batter was completely tasteless. I was craving for some taste from the food.

I bought a small portion of chips as I needed to eat something quick, brought them home and I was so shocked at the size of the chips for what I paid which I think was around £2.40 they tasted disgusting and some chips where not even cooked I will never go back to this place.

Thay need to be a change because only do cash people want to pay by card and that needs to change is clean

Over expensive, you can smell the old oil they use for frying.

We were a party of 6 on a Sunday night. Most places in Marlow were closed or full. Then we found Penguin! Super fish and chips. Kebaps top notch. And they have a drink license! 6 very happy customers.

This is a great fish and chip shop. We had two medium cod and chips and two small bottles of wine for just under £25.00. We sat in the window seat watching the world go by on a Saturday evening. Very friendly staff , a few tables to eat inside and good COVID-19 practice.

Having read the previous reviews of this place I told my family we definitely weren’t going to get a takeaway from here. However, we had just returned from a holiday in Poland, they desperately wanted fish and chips and this appeared to be the only chippy in Bucks that was open on a Sunday evening!! So I reluctantly agreed but warned them this was going to be a big mistake. Boy was I wrong!! It was seriously delicious! The chips were lovely and plump and fresh and beautifully fried - and not a black manky one in sight (like I’ve had with so many other chip shops). My husband said the cod was really tasty. My son had half a chicken and I had a quarter and we both thought it was delicious. Not at all what I was expecting. So I might have to ignore previous reviews and pay another visit - just to make sure this wasn’t a fluke. Yes the place does look a little grubby and run down and they perhaps ought to do something about that. But from a food point of view, I honestly couldn’t fault it. And the lady who served us was lovely. So for now - it’s 5 stars from me for great food and very friendly staff. I’ll be back.

Popped in for a Donna kebab. Asked the chap behind the counter I'll have a Donna kebab please. His answer you can't have one as we don't have any Donna meat. I mean come on if you advertised it at least have it.. not very impressed really. He then tried to sell me fish and chips which I didn't want. But he was polite enough to me. So I went for a burger instead. Which was rank. Don't eat them. I watched the frozen burger meat being pinged out of the microwave to Ben then tossed into the grimey oil of the chip fryer section. I was gonna say don't bother mate but I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the time.. wish I did say no thanks mate I don't want it.. won't be going back here ..

Having walked from Hurley to Marlow the highlight of the day was due to be the visit to the chip shop. In my memory past chips from here were lovely! Not today! From the scraps offered while waiting for the meal to be cooked to the moment of unwrapping the takeaway treat, realising all the chips were like the ones proffered whilst waiting, limp, lots of black bits, dry and tasting of cheap fat, to the moment they found their way to the bin they were awful. This place should close down before someone gets poisoned.

Awful. Asked for a pie, but as it wasn't cooked so he offered to microwave it. Opened chips, done to within an inch of their life, and obviously been there a good while. Inedible. Fish cake fine on top but totally burnt on bottom. Avoid.

I've had cod and chips a few times from here (to takeaway) normally after having after having worked late.and have found the staff friendly and the service good. The Fish was very good and the chips were great, the wait obviously depends on how busy they are but then the food is cooked fresh so it's still good when I get it home.

In the shop there was a whole container of raw potatoes cut up in the middle and not covered whilst waiting to be cooked. Both the savoloy and battered sauasge were stone cold. Only went in for a portion of chips. No one in there at lunch time, started to notice smell and very dirty, by that time was handed my chips, as I started to eat them I realised they were burnt, dry, tasted bad. Turned round and took them back.

Disgusting noodles manky sauce but saucy sausages jk very juicy sausage long fish very tastie and lovely drawdropping chips with jelopinoes stuck inside my car friendly burgers

Not too bad if you want to take your food away but what ever you do dont eat on the premises. We were constantly harassed throughout our meal by people who seem to spend a lot of there time here just to chat rubbish to customers and not actually buying anything themselves.
