These guys sell amazing coffee and food at a very good price. they usually have breakfast/ lunch deals that are really worth going for! The cakes are.....lovely! Whenever I go there I buy at least 2-3 slices of their banana bread or whatever else it's available.

This is an extraordinary and delightful little shack on the edge of Glasgow University campus. Decor is rough chipwood panels, and chinese lanterns etc; on a chilly lunchtime it was lovely and warm. You order a toastie and hot drink for a total of £5 and they'll bring it upstairs to you; there are a few tables, benches and stools, and you're encouraged to share tables. I and colleagues went twice for lunch a few days ago; there were just two options - veg and non-veg, consisting of big chunks of baguette crammed with all sorts of ingredients. The non-veg one had chorizo, feta, roast vegetables, etc etc - really filling, and came toasty-hot and not burnt. They do cake etc as well. The only minus was that the coffee was tepid. Brilliant place for a nourishing budget lunch, made and served by cheery people.

Pena is a quirky little cafe with a hipster vibe. It seems to be very popular with the university student crowd - who were sat studying in abundance when I visited. Along with my friend we headed over to Pena for lunch and a coffee. The food menu isn't extensive, but all the options sounded lush. I went for the 'Pomodoro' toastie - yummy melted mozzarella, basil pesto, roast cherry tomato, baby spinach and parma ham served between well toasted seven seed bread. The toastie came with a cute little pot of salted popcorn. Nom! Slightly random? But totally cool with me! I accompanied my toastie with a latte. I had requested a skinny latte but was told they only used whole or soy milk. I'm not usually a fan of creamier milk but I have to say the latte was some of the best I've ever tasted! Deep, almost earthy coffee bliss and wonderfully smooth texture and slight sweetness from the milk. They served us water in a little milk bottle with a sprig of mint and a segment of lemon. This was a nice touch! If you wanted more water there were little water fountains (like ones at schools or gyms) to fill up at. Very, erm, different! Cute, quirky, wacky little hide out. With REALLY good coffee.

They do a deal which is £4 for a coffee and toastie (cheese only). The sandwiches look really tasty but my advice would be don't get it toasted - mine was just burnt and lacking any joy when I ate it. Whatever sandwich toaster they are using - they should take the sandwich out quicker or get a better machine. He also got my friend's order wrong and gave her a sandwich with halloumi cheese in (she's a vegan). I got 4 tips/slurps of my coffee cup for the price - I see on the menu that a filtered coffee otherwise starts at 2.80. We left to go elsewhere rather than pay that. Guy was smiley and friendly when he served us though. A whole heap of coffee shops are really taking the mickey with the prices now. Give us bigger cups, or put the prices down. I think £2.00 is most I will pay from now on.

I usually take away but the service is pretty quick. It's not overly pricey but I wouldn't go every day to buy lunch. Great coffee. I think the last time they'd cut down the menu I fair bit, which was disappointing as the selections were always full of flavour and an interesting mix! Hopefully there's a bigger selection again next time!

My favourite type of cafe! Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and great coffee. We didn't get anything to eat but the sandwiches looked lovely and fresh! Just wish it was open later than 5pm.

Love this little place tucked away in the West End. They offer tasty little toasties and tremendous coffee. Not much to the veggie option — go for the fisherman Sam with tuna and capers. The vibe and furnishings are ace, staff A++ It would take three of their sandwiches to fill me up but I won't fault them on that as it's cheap and I eat more than a horse.

I didn't know places like this existed in Glasgow; the type of ramshackle cum fire hazard, hip and groovy cafe you can find along every palm fringed beach in SE Asia. Nice coffee and an eclectic first floor festooned with floating paper ephemera. Quirky and charming. Only downer was the lack of attention to (cleaning) detail in the toilet, it needs a really good scrub.

Incredible coffee, amazing toasties and great price. One of my favourite west end coffee shops. A tiny place hidden away with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Nice to go for a lunch break or just to sit and relax.

Great simple idea with a less than simple menu to meet all tastes. It has a nice ambience upstairs, friendly staff downstairs and top quality coffee! The only improvement I would suggest would be comfier seating.

Always in search of the perfect unique coffee shop I popped into Pena at the weekend. Perfectly quirky decor found down a cute little lane. I opted for the Nigella toastie a sweet treat that came served with some delicious sweet and salty popcorn, it was delicious and coffee was great! A hidden gem <3

I love pena. It's very quirky and a nice, quiet getaway from the uni library which is about 2 minutes away. The food is excellent and the coffee is better than surrounding shops (yes, even Artisan Roast!) I've definitely converted. Would be 5 stars but the toilet isn't great and the staff could be friendlier.

Peña is on Eton Lane, just off the top end of Gibson Street, close to Glasgow University. Specialising in interesting coffees and original toasties, Peña caters for a mainly university-based clientele who appreciate more than your usual coffee and sandwich. The owners have only recently set up shop and are offering a £4 for coffee (or soup) and toastie deal which is great value, especially when you consider the care placed in producing well made espresso coffees from a choice of beans. Also on offer are home made cakes and soups, plus teas and some soft drinks. I'm an espresso-holic and love the aromas and taste of the coffees here, sourced from local and London-based roasters. The cafe is simply furnished on two floors, utilitarian in a deconstructed style. Astro-turf on the outside wall makes the place easy to find (down the lane) together with a couple of outdoor seats and table for those days when the weather allows al fresco dining.Peña has joined my list of go-to coffee houses in Glasgow, try it - you won't be disappointed!

Easily the best coffee in Glasgow. Actually, the best, most coffee-y coffee I've ever had. My partner is a coffee aficionado and we are always on a mission to get a great cup of coffee on our travels and at home, and this is a place we can heartily recommend.

We had a set menu and everything we ate was delicious. Good alcoholic and non alcoholic options. A must is getting some of the snacks with your meal. Beautiful restaurant to sit in and staff helpful with dietary requirements. We will be back to experience the full menu.
