This place should be shutdown, the food tasted awful. No plates given to eat food off. I had to eat my food off the hot-plate. I would rather stick pins in my eye than eat here again. It’s also very expensive. Check food hygiene rating. We have been to many Chinese restaurants whilst working away and I’m sorry to say this is the worst.

Food quality is good, in particular, the deep fried squid is very delicious. The 82 year old Taiwanese Chef made us a chicken fish soup with deep fried rice vermicelli. It’s very special and we all love it. The portion is generous. Service is excellent. It’s quiet on a Sunday night, probably due to location.

When we last lived in Cambridge 20 years ago the Peking was a find. Although its moved location since the food was just as memorable and authentic. Great squid starter along with dim sum, with sauces that matched the dish. The prawn dishes were wonderful (check out the one with the crispy rice). The service was at a pace which made you enjoy the food even more. We were even given a parking spot right outside the restaurant. This is how a meal out should be. The only surprise was it was quiet, although it was a week day, and we were still well looked after.

I don't like posting a negative review but this place was dead on a Friday night. Not a single other customer. The staff are friendly and the food isn't bad. When it came to payment they had no signal for the card machine and I had to walk to a cash machine to get cash. I couldn't recommend it as a fun night out but I hope business picks up.

Takeaway food was generally poor and very expensive (£50 for 2 main dishes and a side). The aubergine side dish was reasonable. But the beef was tough and of low quality. The pork dish had not much tough meat and a lot of tofu.

A very quiet, gem of place hidden at the back of Homerton street. We only came to know this place when we started living in the flats nearby. Does excellent Chinese/Chinese fusion. The Chef who owns the place take pride in his cooking and always use high quality ingredients (especially meat). Dishes are a bit a pricey but the portions are bit and worth it. The Cumin Lamb is a thing of beauty and nearly converted my vegetarian wife to a non vegetarian. The fried dumpling served with chilli paste is also excellent.

Came with a large group of friends. The chef suggested that we simply state our preferred price range and he would just bring us an assortment of dishes, but he seemed to be offended by the fact we were only looking to spend around £15 each. No problem, we'd just order from the menu. Glasses for water came out but half of them were unwashed to the point of being visibly brown. My bowl also had a healthy layer of brown crust on it. It was at least 45 minutes until the first dish arrived. To be fair, the food was fairly tasty if rather salty and portions were fairly large (a group of 4 could probably split 3 main dishes) but I've had better takeaways for half the price. The meat was clearly cheap. If you absolutely must order from here, I thought the pork wih aubergine was quite good. One bite of my sticky rice was so cold I could hear the ice crystals break between my teeth. The bill we received initially was considerably higher than expected due to some incorrect adding-up - this was eventually fixed after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing. In the end, £15pp for the quantity of food we got is a pretty fair price these days but that's where the positives end. To top it all off, several of our group had a stomach ache the next day. There's no shortage of good Chinese or East Asian food in Cambridge - don't waste your money and risk your health here!

Food was burnt and soooo salty, service slow and so overpriced. For the cost it would have been nice for them to shred the duck rather than dump I quarter duck on the table and walk off. Picture is of a schezwan chicken - burnt and what can only be described as a plate of cashews and chilli!

We, (a friend of ours, her father, my sister and myself) arrived at the restaurant, at 6pm, as it opened for the Saturday evening restaurant crowd, and as soon as we arrived we were welcomed in by the front of house manager and shown to our table, pleasantries exchanged, we were all given menus to order our meals from, our friend's father decided to order for us all, buffet style, to which we all agreed. First, he ordered drinks, in this case four beers, followed by our starters, prawn crackers, sesame seed toasts, and bang bang chicken, which were brought to our table, and were all quickly consumed, as we were all hungry, the mains were, sweet and sour prawns, sweet and sour chicken with scallops and egg fried rice, and sizzling beef which all went down very well, we all liked the fact that all the dishes came out often, so that there was no waiting for courses, and we also saw that the chef came out of the kitchen to talk to regular customers, and as both the starters and the mains, were a lot of food, we did not have any desserts, as we were all full up at the end, the atmosphere in the the restaurant at the time that we were all there was good, as it was starting to get busy.

We went there after finding the Pomodoro next door entirely full. It was completely empty, for a reason, as it turns out. They only take cash, which considering the highish prices is problematic. The staff are charming and attentive, but this does not make up for the food which is remarkably tasteless. Hard to make hot and sour soup bland, but they achieved it. Definitely meat which had stayed too long in the chiller. Would not make a return visit

It was our first meal with friends since the whole COVID thing kicked off. Expected the place to be busy, but it is was very quiet, almost disturbingly so. The food was decent, but not brilliant. Egg fried rice was a bit oily. The prices were high, £15+ for a main course. And they don't take cards so we had to visit a nearby cashpoint. Friendly service though they didn't seem to know their menu too well and it took a lot of repeating and pointing to get it down. Highlight was the hot and sour chicken with peppers. But they need to drop their prices and start taking electronic payment as a bare minimum.

Tucked away in a modern development, off the main road between the city centre and the hospital, there doesn't seem to be any immediate parking. We exited town by taxi. The place is minimalist, spotless but presents a slightly sterile feel. As with other reviews, we found the food freshly prepped and cooked and best flavours. The portions are BIG and on a future visit would share some of them. Beware, it's cash only, no cards or cheques, which could catch you out. Certainly not cheap - we had an inexpensive (£22) bottle of wine and just a few courses and, with a service charge, it cost us £110 - cash. The food was good enough to attract us to go again when we want to dine Chinese. Good service.

My experience of Chinese restaurants to date has put them into 2 categories: 1. Bog-standard 'British Chinese' cuisine - pretty similar wherever you go 2. Upmarket places which do something different - fusion, for example The Peking Restaurant has now given me a third category. The meals on offer are the same dishes as we're accustomed to, but they are clearly home-made - and very well home-made at that. This place is a real gem. The service was awesome. There was a delay with our mains and the waiter insisted on giving us a free round of drinks. I tried to pay for them but he wouldn't have it. The Peking Restaurant feels utterly genuine. I can recommend it without reservation.

Providing this place is quite pricey, I am surprised they do not take card at all. A meal here for one person can easily cost £20-30. So when I said to the old lady that I do not have enough cash with me and need to go and get some cash across the road, she insisted I should order the food first so they will be ready by the time I came back. Her attitude as if I would run away and not come back... I am afraid i won't be returning.

Having read the recent reviews we almost cancelled but on Boxing Day there was little else open. We are very pleased we didn't. We had an excellent meal and the staff, particularly the lovely lady front of house who gave us all hugs on exit, couldn't have been friendlier. So how is there such a dichotomy between love it or hate it? We were a party of 10 on our own with no time constraint. The main plates are very large (and thus may appear expensive) and arrive piping hot individually, so serving a large meal takes time. I imagine that when the restaurant is full, this can cause extra delay and thus disquiet and possible cause to speak with the owner/chef, who spent all his time in the kitchen when we were there, in a stressful situation. My only criticism is the cash only payment which I agree is ridiculous these days; I had to carry £400 on me for our meal for 10, which I don't like doing. The lack of parking is incidentally true but I have no sympathy with anyone who cannot walk from parking 5 minutes away in the multi-storey next to the Junction. In summary then, be prepared for a long leisurely meal and you will be rewarded.

If i could give this place zero stars i would. Where do I start. At the begining is as a good place as any. So I arrive at the Restaurant and Parking is pretty much none existent. Found a place to park. Walked to the door to find a sign stating they dont accept Credit or Debit cards, Cash Only. Not a problem really i had cash on me. Walk in and the place is empty. No customers no staff. I stand at the counter waiting for a member of staff. Whilst waiting i decide to look at the menu. Whilst deciding what to have I decide to cough to try and gain some attention.... could hear staff somewhere?? No reaction from the staff. It was about this time I actually noted the prices of the food, Chicken Fried Rice was £9.00 and Sweet and Sour was £15.00, I can guarantee that Ken Hom or Nancy Lam are not in the kitchen cooking(if you dont know who these people are google them). But remember they dont take cards. It was at this time I decided to say, quite loudly i may add, 'Excuse Me'. Another few minutes passed and by this time I had been stood for 10 minutes. It was at this point I cut my losses and walked out. Its no wonder the place was desolate and void of custom. Will not be returning ever

The service was terrible. Slow at bringing out food, rude manager/ chef, non working appliances. The food was okay. The egg fried rice we ordered was plain boiled rice with an “omelet” thrown in. We had ordered steamed fish which took forever because their gas wasn’t working so they went next door to the dumpling tree, which I recommend (little pricy) to finish the dish. I would only recommend their dumplings.

This place is really underrated. This is not a cheap Chinese restaurant but a very decent one with good quality of Chinese foods. Location and interior may be a bit odd with mixed perception of a take away Chinese foods. I was passing by that area and dropped in because it's convenient. When I walked in I felt like "don't expect much" as not many people around that evening and interior was not impressive. However, foods turned out to be excellent quality with good and attentive services. For me, it is great value for money with price above average but unbeatable quality. If they redo the interior with more promotion, this definitely beat many other places in Cambridge.

We'd planned to eat at another restaurant in Cambridge but it was fully booked and I'm so glad it was as we found this place. This was, hands down, the best Asian food I've ever eaten and that includes some top restaurants in Singapore. But it wasn't just the fantastic food that made this such a wonderful experience. The family that run it care deeply about everything they make and it shows. They made recommendations that were spot on and we had the pleasure of meeting the chef (the father) and were given explanations on each dish we had. It's not particularly cheap but I always believe you get what you pay for, they are the last of a bare handful of people making Chinese food in this unique way so it's worth every penny in my opinion. The bill came to just over £140 for 3 people with 2 beers, a half bottle of wine and 4 shots of a rather powerful Chinese wine that the chef seemed genuinely please that we wanted to try. We had a pot of Jasmine tea to finish and even that was made with care, they added chrysanthemum so it would not get too bitter as it brewed in the pot. I wished the son, Sam, Kung Hei Fat Choi (as it was Chinese new year on the Monday) as we left and promised we'd be back. We even took what we couldn't eat (the portions are large) home with us. One thing to note is that they take cash only.

We were looking for a great place to hold a birthday lunch just before Christmas. We needed somewhere that could cope with a large party, including kids. We had an excellent time.Homerton Street is not the oldest area of Cambridge; part of a new development. The family brought their restaurant there, and it seems well established. It's certainly worth a trip out from the city centre. We had a banquet that truly deserved the title - not a nasty buffet but a continuous stream of excellent food - we'd booked and ordered the food in advance - so the whole process was seamless.Really great service - the chef and head of the family helping to deliver the dishes himself and explain what they were. Thoroughly recommend it.

There were 14 of us for a farewell lunch for a colleague. We all had different dietary needs and the owner was very helpful in suggesting a menu. It was very tasty and I think everyone enjoyed the food. Good place for going in a large group as we (just about) all fitted round the large round table. We decided not to go for the £30 menu but to select dishes. There was plenty and it cost £20 a head.

We have been going to this well-established Cambridge favourite as a family for nearly 30 years, first in Burleigh Street and now in its new home in Homerton Place. The Chef Patron Michael and his trusted team serve outstanding authentic Szechuan cuisine, as good as anything I have eaten on many trips to China, with Ma Po Tofu, Dan Dan Noodles, Fried Squid with Chili and Hunan Prawns being special favourites. Michael can also on request arrange Chinese banquets for a minimum number of eight people and we were lucky enough to experience this recently when I went with a party of twelve to celebrate my birthday. The food was really outstanding, with many of the dishes made specially for the occasion and not from the normal menu, the stuffed duck and lobster noodles in particular being outstanding. All in all a great place for anybody wanting to eat really well-prepared and authentic Szechuan Chinese food.

Visited this Chinese takeaway ''restaurant'' on a Friday night. To sum it up, next to no service, poor decor / uncomfortable, very bad food (the sweet and sour pork was like eating pork scratchings in sticky sauce) and was definitely not fresh, £16-£17 for a main dish EXCLUDING rice, plus slapped with a service charge. Avoid at all costs- poor all round and 50% too expensive for what it is. Can comfortably say this was the worst restaurant I've ever been to

I would give it 3.5. Nice hint of spiciness with fresh chilies. Recommend the green beans which were tasty. The fried noodles with seafood was a disappointment. No taste.

I have been to this restaurant many times and always look forward to eating here when I have the chance. The food is delicious and authentic and there is a great range of hot and cold starters and mains which cater to all palates. Pricier but significantly better than usual Chinese fair.

We visited Sunday 4th October and service was ok. We ordered starters which was good. Then when mains came out I took a bit of the chicken and thought that it tasted quite tender after swallowing I looked at what was left, it was raw in the middle.!!!Ask asked the waitress about it and she got the chef/owner about it and his answer was I cant help it the rest should be ok do you want me to heat it up. I have reported it food hygiene

Me and my wife decided we wanted something nice for dinner. Chinese maybe? Made a quick search on Google and walked to the Peking Restaurant.Firstly, the prices looked quite steep, but we still decided to try something new - so I went for frog legs. Waiter recommended Chinese beer to go with it. And it was really good. Quite expensive (I wouldn't go there every time I want Chinese food), but food was really good.

We went to dinner to that place, they have a wide menu to choose. Staff is very friendly, they recommended us some spicy dishes and the ones that there are not spicy. We shared 4 dishes (spicy chicken and not spicy, prawn, noodles) and a couple of boiled rice bowls to mix with the other food. All the food was absolutely delicious, tasty, good quantity. All was enough for 5 people. The price was pretty expensive but we paid quality.

My husband and I came here on a friend's recommendation and knowing it would be expensive decided to treat ourselves on our 9th wedding anniversary. We ordered Hu Nan prawns recommended by the same friend and based on previous reviews Smoked Chicken, plus we had mixed meat noodles and beef and Chinese mushrooms in oyster sauce. The Hu Nan prawns was without doubt our favourite dish, lots of king prawns, chillies & black bean sauce. They were not stingy with the prawns. However, we were a bit disappointed with the smoked chicken as it was very westernised (looking back at the reviews realised that Chinese Americans rated this highly) so that was our least favourite dish. Although the dishes were expensive the portions were large. We saw one couple ask for a doggy bag so encouraged by that we also took our remaining food home to enjoy the next day. There was only one waitress serving at front of house who was vey pleasant which makes a change from the usual Chinese restaurant (I can write this as I'm Chinese too!).On the down side the restaurant does not take credit card so we could not order with abandon; we had to make sure that the extra drinks that we had ordered we could pay for along with the service charge. Also, the ambience of the place was not conducive for a romantic meal for 2. On the plus side we could park outside the restaurant if you arrange it in advance with the restaurant.

We were invited to a friend's birthday party recently at Peking Restaurant. The place was full and the staff delivered excellent service, despite the fact that there were just three of them (and one of these was the owner and chef). The food was varied, very tasty and quite different from the "standard" meal we had in other Chinese restaurants recently. We recommend this place for a great culinary experience. Just remember to bring cash with you - they do not accept cards.

This is our favourite restaurant in Cambridge- we believe undoubtedly the best food in Cambridge. Our favourite dishes are Mixed starters, crispy friend squid with chillies, szeuchan dumplings, Hun Nan prawns, chicken with cashew nuts, double cooked pork, steamed sea bass with ginger and spring onions, lamb with leeks and chillies. Generous portions, warm hospitality and attention to fine details - always a gastronomic delight to returning customers. I do wish the proprietor Michael Kerr good health t continue providing us with such delicious food. Delighted to see Sam having taken the managing of this restaurant and giving it an extra dimension with the family-run feeling. Over the years to come I wouldn't think twice before choosing Peking for a meal out and for family celebrations

I ate here when I had to work at Addenbrooks Hospital. I went in because I didnt want to eat in the restaurant complex over the road. It was brightly lit, which as a lone traveller I appreciate. The portions initially seemed very expensive £16 for mixed meat and seafood noodles but then when the food arrived (and the service was very prompt) the portion was really for 2 people so I couldnt complain. A glass of house wine was £5.Not the best chinese I have eaten by any means but hot, tasty with very prompt service. I would certainly go back here again to eat.

Poor quality ingredients (including mixed chopped frozen veg: peas, beans, carrots, sweetcorn mix) added to bulk out dishes , overcooked dim sum and seafood/squid and very expensive.

The Peking in Cambridge, England, founded and run by its chef/owner for the past 30 years or more serves excellent authentic chinese food. The fried seaweed and the Szechuan chicken are just a couple of the superb dishes on my last visit. As an added bonus, you can usually park outside.

I have eaten here since 2008 and I have to say it is by far the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. Considering the chef is an award winner there are no surprises there. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes full of different delicious flavours. Excellent customer service. I would recommend it to anyone who loves Chinese food.

I have lived in Cambridge for over 30 years now and my husband and I eat out regularly. It is no exaggeration when I say that the Peking is the best Chinese restaurant in Cambridge and gives some of the top London restaurants a run for their money.

Tiny takeaway / delivery café that does NOT cater for dining in very well. None of the usual heated food trays on the table to keep the food warm, food was served on freezing cold plates and starters and main courses served together.. (the duck starter came out with the rice and the four main dishes) we then had to ask her to reheat them as they’d gone cold! she said this was our fault for not telling her to bring the duck out separately!! When we complained she reluctantly removed the 10% service charge. Extremely disappointed ☹️
