I don’t normally enjoy Chinese food as I fond it a little bland compared to the Thai food I used to eat when I lived there. This restaurant, however, specialises in Schezuan Style cuisine, which is mire chilli based and therefore could not be described as ‘bland’. I had a chicken in schezuan style sauce dish, a plate of special fried rice and a plate of mushrooms and pak choi. All were delicious and we will certainly visit again when next in Cambridge.

I've eaten here twice. Once, the food was quite decent. The other visit, however, featured the worst Chinese food I'd ever had in my life.

As a Chinese I can say their dishes are very tasty and authentic, even compared with local restaurants in China. I missed the Chinese dishes so much, and they immediately bring my stomach home. The portion is very generous, we two people ordered one beef one vegetable, and two plain rice, we had all of them, I will definitely come back again if I visit Cambridge.

Peking dumpings good, Chicken szechuan good and medium spicy, not deadly.

Delicious, great value and we love the element of chaos. The steamed Sea Bass and tofu are truly exceptional. The guy running the show is very funny. We have been many times and it is always excellent, with hand cooked food of the highest quality, and a welcome relief from all the nearby chain restaurants.

Good service, very happy and funny waitress. Food average and expensive. It was ok and fast service for a hungry family.

Chinese Food The prices are reasonable for the location of the restaurant. The quality was generous in a good way. Felt full but not crazily full like the Cambridge Chop House did. Much cheaper too. The roasted duck was deboned already, what an unexpected surprise. The stir fry had reasonable amount of beef, not too little or too much. Tasted authentic enough. You know, the restaurant is not located in Asia. It will be unfair if I compare my Asian experience with this restaurant. The service was good. Friendly staff. Clean environment. Tables with distance. Got 4 stars because I became very thirsty and drunk at least 5 cups of water afterwards. It's the symptom after having food with MSG.

If you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience, this is the place for you. From the moment I walked in, the staff seemed annoyed by my presence. The hostess barely looked up from her phone and mumbled something that I think was supposed to be a greeting. The waiter was just as bad—he rolled his eyes when I asked for recommendations, and when I requested extra napkins, he sighed loudly like I’d asked him to run a marathon. At one point, I overheard him complaining about another table right in front of the customers. Absolutely unprofessional. As for the food, it was as bad as the service. My dumplings were overcooked and falling apart, and when I told the waiter, he just shrugged and walked away. No apology, no offer to fix it. I felt like I was in some kind of prank show. To top it all off, when I went to pay, the cashier rudely asked, “Are you done yet?” while I was still sorting through my wallet. Unbelievable. The staff clearly doesn’t care about their customers or their jobs. Save yourself the frustration and go literally anywhere else.

The delivery was late. True food arrived cold. I would like to get a refund please.

The dishes were unexpected good, not kind of American Chinese style food. Comparing to other Chinese restaurants nearby or in the US, the price is not expensive at all.

had a nice chinese new year dinner here - the eggplant was especially nice dragon eggplant - 9/10, very good la zi ji - 5/10, give it a miss, diced breast meat cumin lamb - 8/10, great twice cooked pork - 8/10

The portion size and taste are okay, and the price is not cheap.

Didn't take much photos. But the food are very typical Chinese style and good tasty. I recommend here for the Chinese taste. My choice of Chinese food in city centre. Thank you for the service. I feel so warmth greeting and served with my language.

Some of the staff members are super rude and not at all welcoming. Asked to remove the pork from dish and served me beef instead without asking my permission and got angry when i asked to remove it. They still charged service charges for extremely poor service

Was excited to try this place. However, the food we had ordered (Seafood Fried Rice, Black Pepper Chicken) were extremely salty.

I went there with my friends for a nice lunch but we were really disappointed by the chicken fried noodles as it was very cold and not proper taste of any spice, the chicken fried with garlic was really oily that I had experienced bad stomach and also the chicken wings taste awful. Never experienced such bad service from the staff As he was very rude towards us. I wouldn’t recommend this place .

Uno de los críticos anteriores consiguió este lugar con su falta de atractivo entre algunos de los otros restaurantes de la zona, pero como también dijeron, al menos se puede caminar cuando muchos de esos otros lugares están llenos. Sí, es un poco áspero alrededor de los bordes, pero la comida estaba bien y aunque nunca he estado en China, me imagino que la comida aquí está más cerca de cómo se puede llegar allí. Me pareció que el camarero era alegre y amable, tan aparentemente diferente de los encontrados en las críticas negativas. No fue estrella Michelin, pero llegó al lugar para comer rápido y sin duda volvería.

Very sad. Been here several times and food was great. Sadly,today was terrible. Staff were inattentive. Service was slow and there were only two tables. We were served dishes five minutes between each other and when we revived pur main dishes, they were cold in some places as if they'd been in the microwave. Very sad. Will not co.e back again as it seems to have gone downhill

Foods are too oily, taste bland, portion is ok.

Quality of food was poor, sweet and sour pork seemed like scraps and was inedible, and chicken with black bean sauce had no flavour. Portion sizes were small and dry with very little sauce. Even the drink, a picture of bottle of coke and received a can, price was £3.50 for a can of coke!!

Qianqi is not good at eating sweet and sour pork Sweet and Sour Pork without any leftover meat is considered Gulu The rest of the food is fine in portions, expensive, and not particularly delicious.

Totally unhygienic unworthy and unprofessional

We had the food delivered so we don't know what the restaurant is like. We ordered fried rice with chicken and 2 times plain rice. We got 3 portions of fried rice with chicken. Not so great when it has to be mixed with the other filling We got. Dumplings were sticky and not tasty at all. The wonton soup tasted of cabbage. The bucket with soy was in the bag instead of in the bucket. So all in all not the best experience. The meat tasted lovely and was tender.

Salt and pepper tofu was average, did not really taste of salt and pepper and had no crispy coating. Atmosphere was chaotic.

Could not in good conscience recommend this restaurant. The service and atmosphere were without question terrible. Others who chose different menu items might have had better food but the sweet and sour pork was hard, dry, thin and very chewy. It also left a very unpleasant artificial sweetness in the mouth after eating. The Tiger beer was good.

Chinese food in Cambridge looks delicious but is not halal

A very decent and (if I'm allowed to use the word) authentic Chinese restaurant, excellently located on Bridge Street. Upstairs has the normal 'daytime' seating you'd expect and downstairs larger round tables with lazy Susans. The toilets are also downstairs, next to the kitchen (which seems busy); small but clean enough. The food was very good, indeed, though service can be a bit hit and miss. The decor is basic but it all does the trick. Prices are ok, too, as are the portions. I know there are other, possibly better, Chinese restaurants in Cambridge but this one definitely hit the spot and all things considered we'll probably be back.

The food was excellent so much to choose from and the portions were large the service was also great we asked for slight change to our choice and they changed it no problem it was very well frequented would definitely recommend

Singapore noodles were over cooked and tasteless, beef ho fan was just one big lump of noodles and lacked flavour and the ribs and dumpling were mediocre. Won't be ordering from here again.

If I could give zero stars I would, we waited 40 minutes, and she forgot to put the order through. The restaurant is so dirty with stains on the table and chairs. They are racist, just avoid this place and don’t waste your money here, many places further down instead.

I came to Cambridge today and found a gourmet restaurant. The Chinese canteen has good service and authentic food. I will go there again next time.

Nice place to eat authentic Chinese food .

It was super cold today while boating with my friends. When I saw a Chinese restaurant, I immediately walked in and ordered some steaming meals. The portions were generous and the taste was authentic. It was very delicious. The service attitude was super good because I wanted to eat Guobao Pork, but My friend doesn't eat pork, so the waiter recommended that we try the pot fish🐟. We accepted it and the taste did not disappoint us. It was a very satisfying lunch and worth recommending.

Very friendly staff, makes me feel right at home, the dishes are well prepared and the unlimited rice refills are great! Overall a great Chinese place.

The food is bad, very high in MSG. The waiter insists that the 10% service charge is not optional and is a must to chinese customers unless they pay by wechat or cash to help them evade tax. Must report them!

Food was...edible. When I've been here before, the Singapore noodles were great. But this time, the prawns are what stood out, they didn’t taste like prawns but overly fishy. Not much flavour in the chicken or the sauce. just in the fresh ginger

Their food is scrumptious 👌👌👌 without any hesitation feel free to go for it. I have not had tastier Chinese food than this in the UK. I discovered this on my first day trip to Cambridge in one summer and since then sometimes I travel from South London to Cambridge just for their lovely food, and last but not least their service is lovely and friendly bunch of people. Deserves full on 5 star.

Recommended by a Japanese friend :3 it’s indeed better than I expected. A solid 4.5 at this price range. Tianjin bun looks to be handmade. It’s different from the fluffy yeast dough common in northern China and appears similar to a more robust xiaolong. I’ve never been to Tianjin so I can’t comment on the authenticity. Perhaps they do have the particular variety. The dough has an enjoyable thickness. The meatball filling is tender and bouncy, not too fatty. It’s seasoned with soy sauce and slightly sweet unlike the Shanghainese version. Mapo tofu is brilliant even without minced pork. The seasoning is just right and the tofu retains its shape. It’s a very common and simple dish, but it isn’t easy to make a good one. Huiguorou is flavorful. The pork has about 30%-50% fat, but traditionally it was quite fatty. Black fungus can have a little more vinegar in the sauce but is otherwise a crispy starter. The problem with almost all Chinese restaurants out is that the food are too oily (western cuisines arguably has hidden oil in the food anyways). The people at the restaurant are friendly and efficient. It wasn’t too busy when we visited in the festive week. Vibe wise, there’s no background music and the place does give a canteen-like feeling.

The worst is the sweet and sour pork, all of it is fried rice noodles, and the noodles are meatless! Ask the boss. He talks so sharply. Dog food, steal of money

Hi, The food is delicious, however I am a bit disappointed that the main dish was delivered without rice. If rice is purchased extra, I would at least expect that this would be highlighted somewhere throughout the ordering process. This way I feel a bit cheated, because I received a sauce and nothing to eat it with.

Food has no flavour, very disappointing

Poor quality pork for my sweet and sour pork dish. Not proper pieces of meat. Seems to be scrap or discarded meat cooked and served to me.

Ordered my food at 17:30 and given estimated time of delivery for 18:25. Message saying my food was delivered at 19:18 when it hadn't and called the restaurant to be told it was on it's way. Called again at 19:50 as food still hasn't arrived, staff was rude and told me to sort it out myself and ended my call. After waiting for nearly 2 and half hours, no food and money taken out of my account. If I could give a minus, I would.

Given 5 stars for the food and value for money. We've been here a few times now and really like it. It's a bit quirky and has a canteen feel to it... Basic furniture etc. And the 'artwork' on the wall is.... A little 'thrown together' Each time we've been there seems to be lots of people speaking Cantonese to the waiter, and the menu is transkated for this which we take as a good sign. Its also well located among the colleges and near one of the two main punting rental locations.

Return to the canteen whenever we need a quick and tasty lunch in Cambridge. Located by Bridge street just as it passes over the River Cam. The restaurant may be called the canteen, but, it is far more than that. A good and comprehensive menu also a midweek lunch menu. Great tastes and flavours, Cambridge has many Chinese Restaurants but most are hit or miss. The Canteen is consistently good. It can be busy if a coach load of trippers arrive ,but ,is still worth the visit.

Had a lunch with my wife there while we were touring Cambridge today. Authentic Chinese food, good service, very reasonable price. Considering it is in such a busy touristy area, the quality of food and its price are very pleasant surprise to us.

The Yuxiang Aubergine has to be the best aubergine I have ever had in my life. I have had this dish multiple times from Chinese Canteen to ensure that it wasn’t a fluke and it has never disappointed. The restaurant deserves 5 stars for that dish alone

I was here for a couple of hours during my Cambridge trip and oh my god!! the food was so amazing. We had special fried rice and beef noodles but the rice was so good we ate it All up before we remembered to take pictures 😂😂. will definitely be back, great service and food 👌
