Golden Wok in Cambridge

I haven eaten from here alot in the last few years and has always been very descent food ! Lately though I had 2 bad meals in a row and probably won't return.

Amazing service and delicious food

2nd time I've ordered from here and both times very disappointing. I never like to judge a place on only one visit so gave it a second chance and it is really bad. Quality poor and very bland. Wouldn't be ordering again from here.

I tried this as usual Chinese was closed, even though I've heard bad things I thought I'd try due to seeing good reviews..... These reviews must be fake on Google as it was all disgusting. The chicken wings where covered in thick and bland batter, not even seasoned with salt and didn't include advertised sauce, the special fried rice was very basic and bland, I've had better from Iceland! The king prawn udon noodles looked delicious however extremely spicy my mouth was burning and couldn't eat it. The noodles where not advertised as being spicy or having any chilli in and it was overpowering you couldn't taste anything else. I would of probably had more enjoyment with a 50p pack of instant noodles! Photos of chicken wings and "special fried rice"

This is always my go to Chinese, however tonight I was not as impressed. Although the portion sizes are good, they have gotten more expensive and the food was so greasy that it had dripped through the bag and went all over my hands, the chow mein was lovely as normal, the rest was all just a bit bland which was disappointing! It took 1hr and 20 mins to arrive from ordering, the driver was friendly. 1 off day in the last 10 years of ordering from here isn’t too bad though!

Really good, probably the best Chinese takeaway I've been to for a very long time. Their sweet and sour sauce is really good, nice and spicy! Never had that before. The food is really tasty, the servings are generous and the staff friendly and attentive.

There was no communication about my food. I ordered on the app and just over 2 hours later, the food turned up. I had to call to see if they got the order then over an hour after ordering I called again to ask when it was being delivered just to be lied to by the lady on the phone who claimed the website states the wait time. The website might, I don't know but the app does not and I had stated I ordered on the app. After a 2 hour wait, the curries, soups and chicken balls were fantastic. The rice and pork balls were lukewarm and the spring rolls had so very little filling in them, it was only visible in one when broken into two without pulling them open. With all that said, they are usually amazing which is why I've scored them 3 stars as opposed to the 2 star rating this order alone would have earned.

Fantastic food, wouldn't go anywhere else for Chinese food after trying the food here.

Indeed the best Chinese takeaway in this area without a doubt, the taste, quality, hygiene and consistency is always at the top. Service is always friendly and quick, very reasonable price too, I’ve been ordering here for almost 10 years and there’s not many dishes I got disappointed even though sometimes the seasoning is bit up and down, I guess the taste could be bit different depending on the chefs but still good

Always really good shame about the massive powdery chips. Need to be thinner and crisper please !!!!!!!

We have only had 1 takeaway from here. Unfortunately the dishes were overcooked making the chicken a little dry. However the service was fast and it was fairly xheap

it was fine but probably overpriced. Feels like it's priced towards the premium end but doesn't taste much better than the cheaper options. it was on time and tasted OK of not spectacular.

Some of the best Chinese food in Cambridge and hands down the best value. The kung po fish is divine and a firm favourite at the moment... amongst just too many to mention! This is a fortnightly treat for us and we always order a banquet that lasts for two or three nights. Yum!

1.5 hrs wait for cold food. And that’s after we paid £4.50 delivery fee! Portions were small and expensive. won’t use them again, will try somewhere different next time.

Ordered and put a note for no vegetables and bbq sauce instead of sweet and sour, they sent the bbq sauce but the noodles had lots of onions and bean sprouts in, I couldn’t eat them as I’m allergic to bean sprouts

Entered competition and was told I had won didn't look right got intouch with golden wok and it was a scam, but golden wok was not very helpful as this is happening often

Following my review from Sunday, The owner Janet has been amazing, and very helpful. I wish nothing but the best for this business, the servers are amazing and friendly. They have been around for years. Service area, maybe needs redecorating but is functional. One thing I would say is please phone and order in advance, collection then will be much faster for you. Reason, There is an external parking company that monitors time of parked cars. Must park within the lines. Time limit 30 minutes only allowed. Not long if more than one place to visit.

I ordered my food told them I’d be back to pick it up in about 5-10 minutes went to the shop witch is just a few doors down came back to get my food and they was closed for lunch had to go home went back when they reopened and they gave me cold food I complained they lied and said they waited for me to come back for half an hour I told them they were lying and the cook Assaulted my I’m a disabled person and he tried snatching my walking stick and he’s probably going to get away with it as they don’t have cctv

When I ordered, the delivery said it would take about an hour. Then I had a text message to say it was running behind, and then it turned up within about 40 mins! Can't complain! I rang them, because I thought I had a rice missing from the order, but then when I checked I'd only ordered 1, so I'm not sure what happened on the website, as I had tried to order 2. Maybe I hit the 'back' button and it removed it? The food was delicious and great quality, but the yellowbean sauce was sweeter than I remember it being, so the flavours we chose were less varied. Other than that, it was cooked to their usual high standard and no complaints there. Thank you!

Excellent Asian food at an affordable price, which is more than one can say about most places in Cambridge. Friendly people who can customise dishes for you if you're vegetarian and who listen to your preferences. For a change, vegetarian doesn't just mean meat-less, it means with lots of delicious, nutritious vegetables. Highly recommend it for a tasty, healthy, quick, affordable meal :)

It used to be our favourite Chinese takeaway, but unfortunately our food was way over salted the last 4-5 times . Friendly staff , and over all great service

I placed an order today for 39 lunch time meals at my work. i collected the food at 12.30. All i can say is it was superb, every person commented how good tasty and hot the food was . The staff were so friendly and helpful. highly recommend this Chinese

I’m gluten free and I can certainly recommend The Golden Wok. When I say that I’m gluten free they have been very accommodating using gf soy sauce and recommending meals on the menu which can be adapted. Tasty food, friendly service which is also prompt when collecting from the shop.

Chow mein was burnt and so gritty, chips were far from fresh more like re heated old ones all went in the bin used to be so good won’t be ordering again

This was our favourite place to eat from but after ordering on the 8th of March, the next day we started to be sick, tummy pain and diarrhoea and cancelled at least 2 days and took care of each other! After this experience we will not order again from this place and hope they will take the right measures so this will not happen again as it is not pleasant, in special when children are ill.

I can’t believe I paid for all of this £6.5, this is crazy! If I will go to Waga or all the other chains I will pay double and get half a portion. Taste great as well! My new favorite Chinese place❤️

We got chicken balls and spring rolls, both good. The main dishes were fresh and hot with good portions but lacking in taste. The Satay chicken was watery and lacking in satay taste, the spicy chicken just had sweet and sour sauce in it and again lacking flavour. Just need to add some ginger, garlic, chilli and sesame oil to make it taste like a Chinese takeaway.

By far the best chinese takeaway i ever try, with other words the food it's so, so delicious!

I went there today to get chicken omelette and chips and an extra portion of chips and it was delicious, the kitchen looked clean from what I see and the gentleman that served me was friendly, i would definitely recommend to anyone.

On time, nice and hot and tasty!

The veg spring roll is very oily and light on flavour. The Kung Po Chicken was spicy (good) but dominated by chillis without any richer layers of flavour.

A loyal customer for years but the service is getting worse, Ordered our meal tonight at 5 30 it arrived 7 45 near cold. this is the third time the delivery has been late over an hour. So wont be ordering from here again.

Absolutely rubbish Pork balls were tough and inedible, the batter was stodgy, the beef was tough and so chewy and could not be digested, the chicken was so dry that it was like chewing on cardboard, the only thing that was OK was the rise

This is my most favourite Chinese in whole Cambridge! Absolutely amazing! Been ordering from there last 5yrs and recommending all the time! Very nice noodles and getting exactly what I expect from Chinese food! Their portions are huge (you will most likely have leftovers for the next day lunch) and prices are amazing.

Didn’t really enjoy our Chinese today. Duck pancakes was nice. Rice and chicken chowmein was cold and frozen in the centre. Thought it was cooked fresh to order. Most Chinese restaurants give prawn crackers free. We got half off bag and had to pay. On line said free delivery over £13 order. Ended our pay £2.50 delivery and 50p for bags Terrible for them to charge that for bag. Didn’t mind paying delivery as 1.5 miles away. But they should off said on site. Think I will leave it and won’t order again.

We ordered from here as previously good experience. Total disaster this evening. Took over one and a half hours to start with. Food cold. Clearly been cooked in dirty oil. Curry not recognisable. Rice dish too hot to eat when not meant to be hot dish. The meat in the dishes was really bad. Not sure what meat it was meant to be! Threw most of it away. Total waste of money. Will not eat from here again and will let people know not to either.

Excellent duck pancakes, duck not greasy at all and was a good size. Ingredients fresh. Despite some of the other reviews, I found the reception very friendly. Portions great. Chow mein was super. I'll definitely be back.

One of the best Chinese takeaways in all of Cambridge. I've lived in Cambridge since I was a kid and been a customer of The Golden Wok for over twenty years. If you don't believe me, try them out, you won't be disappointed. Delicious food and generous portions. Deep fried shredded beef in chilli sauce is a personal favourite of mine but the other items on the menu are all prepared beautifully as well. I could eat there every day quite happily. Five stars!!!

Tasty food at fair prices. Nice sweet and sour chicken balls and chow mein. Easy to order online and fast and efficient collection service.

I would’ve like the opportunity to try the food however I was totally put off by the inappropriate members of staff at the front desk. Murmuring between each other about me and my partner and clearly picking and choosing who they’d like to greet when walking through the front door. It’s just awkward when you catch someone talking about you as you’re trying to plan a meal to takeaway.

The food from The golden wok today was disgusting . It was freezing cold when we finally got it and the chips were terrible !! The food tasted like it was over a week old !! Won’t be using that place again

Food tasty , delivery good, order fairly regularly but why can't you remember to add sweet and sour sauce ! 3 times this has happened now super annoying and makes sweet and sour chicken balls a bit on the dry side ☹️

Ordered a takeaway for delivery, food was lovely. I recommend the lemon prawns which were lovely and I had never tried those before. Very speedy delivery because I rang early. Nice. would definitely order again

We have just had a meal from the golden wok for my wife's birthday. It was delivered within 20mins of ordering and the food was absolutely fantastic. We will definitely be ordering from them again in the future

It's a real shame. Been a customer for years but last night was so dissapointing. I understand last night of all nights was going to be busy so I ordered at 6:20 and was given a 2hr delivery time (standard lately). I waited, called after 2hrs 20 mins and was told it was not yet out for delivery and the drivers weren't back yet. I didn't want to wait another hour so I asked to cancel and was told quite rudely and abruptly that it was already cooked. (Am I supposed to let my cooked food sit there for another hour then?) I explained a courtesy call would have been nice about the very late delivery. I would have quite happily accepted a cancellation and let it go but the lady went off to speak to someone about it and I heard quite stern conversations in the background along the lines of 'she's not getting a refund'. I was really shocked and why wouldn't I get a refund even if I paid card!? Luckily, I was paying cash. They shouldn't have accepted orders they couldn't fulfil in time. They need to look at their delivery service as there is no estimated time on delivery until you book then it's pot luck as to whether it will be 1 hour, 1 hour and a half or 2 hours or more. Because of last night, I'm no longer a customer, which is such a shame. I think the place needs some training in customer service, for all staff it seems. One of the delivery drivers was always lovely (Northern guy).

Prices are okay, but I was not very impressed with the quality of the food. The duck was quite dry, and the noodles overcooked. The chicken was okay.

Wonderful food. Have used them since 2005; but very disappointed by the prawn crackers when they arrived tonight. Greasy and tasteless. First time ever. Have they changed? Yuck! Everything else was fabulous.

Food was great, tasty and still nice and hot, but the delivery time took a bit too long waited for 95 minutes. Food was ordered online and there was no estimated time, I was expecting no more than one hour hence only 4 stars.

The best chinese we have had for a very long time. Came early, piping hot, huge portions and very reasonably priced. We are definitely using this restaurant again, well done!

I had roast duck chow mein as a takeaway from this place, and it was sensationally good, perhaps the best takeaway item I've had in Cambridge. I would 100% recommend. (The only thing that could make it better is if they were on a more mainstream delivery platform, EG Deliveroo or Just Eat, but this is a minor point)

Really, not a great Chinese Takeaway, I'm unhappy to report. Not the most expensive place - but - that's obviously because the quality is low. Low prices, low quality. Very rude staff! Saw the 'chef' or at least one of them, pick up our pancake rolls with his bare hands, and attempt to shake & squeeze some of the excess grease off. I asked the girl behind the counter if his hands were clean, to which I got a very sarcastic answer of "yes they're clean", and then she rolled her eyes as she walked back in. Now, in a pandemic, with customers having to stand outside whilst waiting for their food, and wear masks etc, doing the above is actually quite unpleasant. I've tried it there twice, and on the first occasion, the chow mein I ordered was, for want of a better word, burnt. The noodles had a really smoky & burnt flavour, and the edges of some of the noodles were hard. The vegetable pancake rolls are literally dripping in grease - and I mean dripping! The bottom of the bag had a good couple of centimetres of just oil swimming around! Second time it was just as bad, without having to write an essay. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

The girl I was speaking to was disgustingly rude and had the most attitude, if you don’t like to talk to people then you shouldn’t work in a food industry. The wait is very long but I guess you can expect that. The food is good but I don’t like sarcasm when trying to order food for my kids when I’m paying for the food.

Let’s start with the chicken balls - crispy, golden coated juicy pieces of chicken, perfect - not soggy or too dry, just the right level of grease. Moving on to the sweet and sour sauce - incredible. The right amount of tang and not too thin allowing ample coverage of the chicken ball. The char siu rice was impressive - much better than the common boiled rice that most takeaways seem to serve, moist and flavourful char siu in the perfect ratio to the rice. The new spicy hunan beef is second to none - usually beef dishes end up dry and chewy but this was delicious and a great level of spice.

Great local takeaway, respectable prices and great quality. Chicken balls had the perfect texture, lovely and 'golden'. Wish they would do salt and chilli chips. Free prawn crackers with our order which is always welcome. Special fried rice was tasty too. Frankly the chips were slightly underwhelming - lovely texture but could do with a touch of seasoning.

I ordered a delivery from this Chinese, I am 5 miles away after 1hr 15 mins I called to see where my order was. The restaurant told me they don't deliver to the address 5 miles away and did not contact me to tell me this. They instead told me they couldn't dial international numbers despite having my email address but told me they were in the kitchen and could not go upstairs to send an email. Appauling customer service.

Unfortunately after many visits to the takeaway , tonight we was appalled, firstly the phone call ,the young girl on the end of the phone was rude as just put the phone on the side and didn't apologize for leaving me on hold We placed our order ,was advices the delivery was a hour and half ,so said we would collect, was told it would be 35 minutes ,on arrival we were then kept waiting for another 40 mins ,which in total could of waited for delivery , Then when we got the order home ,they had left a item off the list, which was the young ladies fault as we had the order written down When ringing up we were told oh we can do a item for you ,sorry rest of the meal would be cold , So we returned said order to yourselves, and we got a refund , We will not be returning,until service has improved,and the staff either replaced or taught how to help in a shop

El caballero con el que hablé fue extremadamente servicial y todas mis solicitudes fueron atendidas.Después de no haber comido comida china durante varios años debido a que requería una dieta sin gluten, finalmente encontré un establecimiento local que entiende y no me pone ninguna duda de que la comida es segura para mí.La entrega se realizó 15 minutos antes de lo solicitado, pero no fue un gran problema.La comida era abundante y de buena calidad.
