Rocked up to this site because I had been stranded by the electric vehicle. Ended up here to get 2pcs chicken chips and a sausage in batter. They don’t do offers, deals or mix and match or half sizes for a price The chicken was nice the price is abit steep for £2.20 but best within the local area as the other store is doing it for £3.2 which is quite heavy but the size is good here a tad bigger than your KFC They didn’t offer a drink or anything with what I got as it was pricey They don’t seem soo friendly or greetinable other than for you to just buy/ eat and go But he/they could be having a poor morning! However Try it out and let me know your thoughts !

We had fish and chips and loved it. Fresh crispy battered fish. Portions are enormous. Yum!!

Having been our favourite local chip shop for over 15 years really disappointed this evening. Chips and haddock not cooked through, ribs dry hard with hardly any meat on them.

We have been here twice recently, sat inside once and outside the other. Both times staff were friendly and efficient and food arrived quickly. Both the cod and haddock are tasty and meaty, the first time we ordered a large portion of chips which were huge so then ordered regular which was still big and tasty.

I ordered a takeaway on a Monday evening. Chap serving me was super friendly and nice. I ordered a haddock and chips and was also asked if I wanted salt and vinegar. The service was super quick and I didn't have to wait. The reason for my rating rests with the quality of the fish and the chips. The fish was overdone unfortunately and too fried and dry. The chips were very oily. I couldn't eat many chips and they made me feel a bit ill. It's a shame as the restaurant was very high on my rating list. I hope they improve but I don't think I will be back.

Best fish and chips in Epping! Great vegan options too. The chips are like little crunchie bits of gold, massive portions and such good value for money…wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Nice fish, but the chips were a bit tough.. Think we had an old batch. No toilet. Good value. Didn't let me have tap water, made me buy a bottle of water. Good overall, friendly staff. Clean.

Tonight late getting home stopped bye. We had Haddock, Middle of Skate, medium chips with a gherkin and coffee to eat in. Cooked to order. Best fish and chips we have outside of Cornwall!

Very generous portion of chips which were delicious. Lovely fish and mushy peas. Clean, bright environment with friendly staff. Service was very quick. Thoroughly recommend!

This is THE best fish and chips we have ever had. I never write reviews but Peggotty's is just the best out of everywhere, ever! The chips are freshly fried and cod is always golden and crispy and we all agree it's the best we have ever eaten, even in luxury restaurants! Always go for the mushy peas and even the veggie burger is always cooked perfectly too. We choose to get takeaway from here over going out sometimes as it's just so good. Very friendly and super efficient staff. Also love the makeover inside too. Always busy!

Cod had a definite past it’s best aroma. Not inedible but really not good for the money, it was also a bit rubbery. Twice I’ve been here now and twice disappointed so won’t return, sadly Smiths isn’t much better as very small portions so will have to travel further out..

Great portion size, brilliant chips, crispy fish, friendly staff (only bad thing is cash only but there’s a cash machine in Tesco nearby). I’m 100% coming back.

the driest ribs I've ever eaten. They look like they've been in the oven for a week.

First and last time I buy anything from Peggotty's fish shop, they can't even reheat a pie without complete ruining it. Not only do they heat their PUKKA pies in a microwave first, but the entire filling from mine had been squirted out of the pie casing. Once I got it home only then did I realises my dried up £3.50 minced beef and onion pie was missing most of its filling. The pastry was rock hard, God only knows how long it sat in their hotplate. I was unable to make a dent in it with a steel knife and fork, Leaving me no choice but to throw it in the bin, where inedible pig-swill like their food belongs. If you have very low standards of what you call food, Peggotty's is perfect for you.

We had a take away whilst fish and chips were great chicken was over cooked and dry too much of an effort to take it back to the restaurant

I was looking forward to this place as had tried other Peggotty’s branches before (even the one in Spain!) but this was slightly disappointing to me. Average greasy fish and chips. Okay if you’re hungry but there are better places on the high street

UPDATE: We have been back at least six times since this was first written. I stand by the original report below. Excellent fish and chips. Large portions. Realised they also make Southern Fried Chicken pieces so may try that out as well. First rate shop and food. First time user. Won't be the last. Don't really buy fish and chips. But having lived in Epping for 7 years, decided to give them a bash. Very impressed. The portions were huge. Ordered 4 large chips and three pieces of fish. The three adults shared two chips and had a piece of fish each. Landed up there were two full meals there (supper and another supper). Four children shared two portions of chips again with two servings there. So effectively two full meals on both counts. The fish (cod and haddock) were fresh and tasty with the cod being the preference. The chips were amazing. The front desk guy was lovely and chatty. Two caveats though. The first is they only accept cash. Didn't know this and had to walk to the nearby ATM at Tesco (60 seconds) whilst they got everything ready. The second is parking is not always available. You could possibly double park but just so you are aware. Otherwise, highly recommended and will certainly use them again.

First time coming to this fish and chips and I wasn't disappointed. I had cod and chips, the cod was crispy and hot tasted amazing. I was driving past and thought I will have something to eat quickly and I'm happy I did. I can say it was one of the best fish and chips I had.

There was a National fisherman’s strike on when we visited so no haddock but the cod was good and fresh. What was odd was the texture of the chips. Dry and hard. More like thick oven chips. We’ve not been to Pegottys for quite a few years and they were consistently good then. Everything else was fine but the chips were not good.

Never ever would I ever eat here again. The food was extremely greasy and the paper was soaked in grease. The chips were ok but the cod was cold and dry (although it had been sitting there cooked for a long time). As soon as myself and my partner finished eating we were both vomiting extremely ill. £30 for 2 meals, waste of money and terrible food.

100% the best chips I have had in Epping. Always cooked well and are very dry, not greasy - and crispy which I love. Good sized portions as always.

Ordered rock and chips I can honestly say the worst fish and chips I’ve ever eaten chips tasted of old oil and the fish must have been in the cabinet since the Queen was a little girl so dry it was inedible waste of time and money absolutely disgusting

Have been regular customers for over 15 years. Reliably EXCELLENT fish and chips with first rate customer care preparing all meals to individual requirements. Service is always friendly and the shop is never less than immaculately clean. A recent refurb has made dining in or waiting for your take even more pleasant.

Since I was a young boy I can always remember this place, amazing service amazing staff and today these values of quality food and excellent service have not changed, adapting their menu to suit the needs of the customer and having a dynamic full time staff always on hand to provide each meal as if it were there own, this is by far, by a mile the best place to eat for a quick lunch or an even better Friday night fish and chips.

Ive been coming to this fish and chips since i was a kid, amazing fillet chicken burger and chips. Fast and friendly service.

Got 1 fish & chip , onion rings , tartar sauce cost over 18 Euro. Fish & chips were fine but onion rings were terrible, tasted like mush not onions..

The burger was alright. The chips are rather large potions but dried out & overly cooked. I was starving so I tried a couple but couldn’t eat them had to bin it. The drink however was nice & cold. The shop is very clean & great service such a shame they couldn’t get the chips right. Unfortunately I won’t be going back

Done of the best fish and chips I've had

I am a regular customer but I've got to say the quality is a bit hit and miss. When it's good it's very good but just lately I've had too many misses. I'm willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt but I've had enough with reheated, over dry fish and chips.

This is my go - to fish and chip shop. Fresh fish not cooked to order (so no long wait) but big turnover so not been done long. Portions large so 1 helping of chips between 2 unless you're a VERY big eater. No card machine so cash only.

Best Fish and chips in Epping Forest District without question, on level par with Wilson's in Chingford

We used Peggotty's for the first time after my daughter moved to Epping. The service was very good, friendly and efficient. Food was purchased for six people - four adults and two children; however my daughters fish was not edible. The fish was far from a satisfactory standard for eating and was discarded. All the other meals were fine. I would be very dubious about using this takeaway again.

We live in Harlow but drive to Pegottys as it’s the best chippie by far that we have ever been to. Absolutely addicted to their sausage in batter - crispy golden batter is perfect. Chips smash all the others out the park. Fish is top class.

I travel here from Enfield every week with my family . Very friendly service, always nice to have a chat with the young lads working in the front . Always fresh never been disappointed. Excellent customer service and excellent fish and chips. Can't wait to eat in again. Thank you guys keep up the great work.

Perfectly nice chippie in prime high street spot. We've used it for twenty years and never been let down. Reduced price for OAPs. The half chicken and chips are very generously proportioned. In non-Covid times you can sit at the Formica tables and watch the world pass the plate glass windows while you eat.

I travelled a fair way to try this one, I normally travel to Hadleigh in Essex every week. Good fish n chips never greasy and they cooked from ordering so always fresh and hot

The service like the welcome was very good. The food was piping hot and tasted terrific. The fish was sparklingly white and tasted very fresh. As the fish was cooked freshly for us it was a short wait but well worthwhile.

Always fast. The food is always ready and hot. Better portions than Smiths - a large chips is more than enough for two people!

Second visit to this fish and chip shop and as before the food was excellent. Good size of fish with lovely white flakes of cod and pleanty of chips for two! Only complaint was that it is cash only! Really in this day and age!!
