We booked the New Years Eve fixed meal at £90 per head. The room was empty except for the diners which were seated along the windows. As it was dark outside on one side with nothing to see and empty on the other there was absolutely no ambiance. We were last to be seated and ended up next to a draughty fire door used frequently by smokers going in and out as well as the kitchen door. We felt completely rushed through the courses and had finished our meal in just over an hour, by which time we were the only ones left. A thoroughly disappointing experience. The pre ordered food was mediocre.

What a wonderful place to stay, from the moment we arrived to a warm welcoming reception the staff could not have done anymore to make you feel both valued and welcomed. Reception, bar, restaurant all so very helpful, thank you for making the stay so fantastic. We had dinner on the first night as part of our exceptionallly well priced winter break, great food, cooked and served which made for a lovely evening. Breakfast was extremely good and again the staff could not be more welcoming and helpful, thank you. The views are stunning, go for a seview room its a no brainer in terms of value for money and such an amazing way to start the day with a cup of tea on the balcony looking at the waters surrounding St Ives. Thank you for a wonderful mid week break to all at the Pedn Olva ..... we will without any doubt see you again.

The food & restaurant service was great! The views were amazing. The only downside was the rude woman cleaning the men’s toilets after lunch on Friday 13th September.

Luke at the front desk was so accommodating! Called from the US to ask SO many favors as my fiance was checking in later and having a rough go. Luke went out of his way to get flowers, fruit, chocolates I delivered to room and as a concierge helped me navigate local massages and such to make his guest spoiled. Truly above and beyond and I am so very grateful!

On this occasion, we just called in for a drink and sat on the terrace overlooking Porthminster beach, it's always somewhere we call in at least 4/5 times during our annual St.Ives holiday. It's always clean, staff are welcoming and friendly and it's dog friendly too 👍 .

It's a great location, but dinner tonight was very poor. The place looked quite tired, all old furniture, faded interior, yet still quite pricey. Children had pasta that was OK, but menu items missing so had fish and chips for £20 that would have been far better on the wharf. Couldn't wait to leave. Could be a great place if it went up market and did things properly, but felt like wetherspoons by the sea, but expensive.

We went for a meal on a Sunday evening. We arrived early and enjoyed our first drink with the amazing views from the deck. When we came to order, we found the menu was very limited, and the only fish on the menu was sold out for by our booking at 7.15pm. Check the Sunday menu before booking - we didn't, unfortunately. The children's menu was also sold out to the extent it only contained 2 hot dishes. Our meals didn't arrive until 8.15pm, an hour after our booking. We had the crab, and it came with an extremely hard and dried out single slice of bread (this was replaced with a softer slice after complaining). The beef on the roast was good, however. The cauliflower cheese was very undercooked. Based on our experience, I would definitely avoid eating here on a Sunday and would research before booking on other days.

This is one of the most magical places I have ever visited. Our room has some of the most beautiful scenic views I have ever seen! The staff was very warm and welcoming. It's a mere 5 minute walk from the trains station and another 10 minutes walk to the city center. A perfect place for our honeymoon! The food and the beer served at their restaurant is second to none! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner is perfect! Will definitely come back here! Thank you Pedn Olva, St Ives! Definitely recommended to all travellers!! 🫶💙

Our favourite spot for a drink in St Ives. Nice location just outside the chaos and crowding of pubs on the front. But with views to beat them all. The bar has a stunning panoramic window with seats overlooking the ocean. Photo is taken from this window. The service here is also head and shoulders above anywhere else in St Ives. The older gentleman who tends the bar (apologies I do now know his name) is an absolute gem. We’ve not tried the food yet but will do next time. We’d also like to stay here at some point soon.

We have just returned from St Ives after a nine night stay. We visit St Ives at least twice a year. We did not stay at the Pedn Olva this time but spent most of our time there eating and drinking like we always do. What a fabulous place in terms of location, food & drink. It’s got a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are first class in everything they do. Staff always go the extra mile to make your experience the best it can be. We had Sunday lunch there before leaving. The lamb was outstanding. We will see you real soon. Neil & Denise G.

We stayed in room 32, the room was cosy in size with a fairly compact shower. The sea views were incredible with the balcony area overlooking the rocks and beach. The restaurant and bar area are great, tasteful and welcoming. The food was excellent but the best part of the Pedn Olva are the staff. All were smiley and helpful, assisting with our bags, putting up with all our requests at breakfast for options that weren't on the menu etc. The level to which we were looked after went above and beyond what I would reasonably expect from a hotel, I would give 6 stars if I could.

Just had a battered sausage & chips which was cooked fresh. It was delicious & a great portion size too. I had my 6 year old with me who said he was cold & one of the guys working there heard this & came out & plugged in a portable heater for him which was a really nice touch. Thanks I will be back & I highly recommend here👍

The Tolcarne Inn is a pub in Newlyn, Cornwall, just outside of Penzance. I happened to be on my way to watch a film about an Irish architect, when I stopped in the Tolcarne Inn for lunch. Suspicious of gastro pubs, ranging from uppity to down-facing. Ladies were pleasant, very quiet clientele, like a village pub. I sat by the window with my book about the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, but when the food came, I forgot about Uncle Joe entirely. I ordered turbot with hollandaise sauce and asparagus, a side of boiled “Cornish dailies” and a white Americano. A warning about “small plates”. Quite, quite. You could have lost the fish in the wash, the two asparagus were stolen from a fisher-maid’s garden, the hollaindaise failed to mask the paltry dimensions. The bowl of potatoes, lathered in butter and dill, was substantial, boasting my fish like a thin man wearing large clothes. (£25 for the lot. Suspicious? I thought so too.) After the first mouthful, I was shocked. I chewed slowly, methodically, the flavours informing my tongue. The turbot was cooked with rock salt; the flesh keeps shape, easy to pull apart. The hollandaise has none of that wiry flavour; it’s smooth, not unlike a Bailey’s. Asparagus are tender, simple. Boiled “Cornish dailies” - new potatoes - are tender too. Dill and butter not overpowering. When you are filled with shock during a meal, this usually comes from the waitress dropping your plate, or some punter attacking the bar, but rarely the food. My modest meal shocked me. I forgot about Joe Biden, remembering my youth. Perfect fresh fish - prepared differently in Bermuda, but the same sensation. The outside world vanishes. Flawless food. Tourists ambling in and out of the pub, acting like the Inn was just another watering hole. No, no, no. My little turbot and asparagus and potatoes forced me back into the shell of my youth, I thought about people thinking about youth; what form it took, and so on. Walker is in shock, on the verge of tears. Now, at this point, you reach out and touch your partner’s hand, but I was alone. So the waitress came over and asked, “Is your food alright?” Because I’m thinking about time and space, prompted by the excellent food, I look up slowly, like a post-operative patient jigged back to life. “It’s flawless,” I said. “Suspiciously flawless,” I added. She smiles, walks away. Meanwhile another customer - frothy, biscuit-shirted - has the audacity to say their beer is “a bit frothy” when archangels and medcine men craft in the kitchen like so many Cornish saints. A chef peers out of the kitchen, catching my eye. A smug smile on his face. “Yes, you are God,” I want to say; I want to sing this from Newlyn to Planet Neptune.
