i have been coming here for years, always a nice place for lunch after a walk round Calke Abbey, but i will say it has gone down hill big time. Last time i went i had fish and chips. The fish was so over cooked it was more like eating cardboard. Chips were rather limp. Looking at other reviews i can see why now you are not so busy. You could have a gem again if you make some improvements. Sorry many be a new chef. Serving staff are great.

My husband and I went to the garden centre, which was lovely. We decided to go to the cafe for a coffee and cake, it was quite busy, unfortunately there was no atmosphere and the staff running the food were very miserable, one of the waitresses was slamming things down on the table, we weren’t the only people to notice, such a shame, the cafe itself looks very tired

A very busy Monday lunchtime. Lady behind counter was taking orders and making drinks which may have been slowing things down a bit. However, the lady was amazingly chirpy, polite and had her finger on the pulse. It was great to listen to her. She could run training courses on customer service. Overall, I wonder if the menu is too comprehensive for the size of the place. I kept finding more offerings on different cards and blackboards. First timer, will return. Delicious steak pie

Disappointing lunch. Seems very hit and miss on quality depending on what you order. I had a chicken burger with the thinnest piece of processed chicken you've ever seen. My mother in law had the fish and chips of which the fish was pretty inedible. My wife had the lasagne which she said was lovely but ended up with food poisoning that evening. Wont be eating there again.

Poor quality of food. Gammon was overcooked and dry, jacket potato had a thimble of beans for an extra £1.50, Pasty had one piece of meat in it. Avoid this place at all costs, totally overpriced for very underwhelming food.

Not a very good experience here and has unfortunately gone drastically downhill. Tea was luke warm and ordered 2 cakes which were not very nice - lemon cheesecake tasted gone off and the lemon meringue was tasteless. The cafe looked dirty and the sofas had bits of food on them and lots of stains. We had to sit there because we had a dog and this was the doggy area - I literally just sat on the edge! . There was also a horrible smell - like an old greasy cooking smell. It’s so sad how this has gone because we used to love visiting this cafe when going to the garden centre. I understand times are difficult but a cloth, cleaning solution and a bit of elbow grease doesn’t cost the earth! It wasn’t busy that day either …… very sad to see and won’t be returning back

Arriving around midday on a cold January Friday morning, our first choice, the tea rooms in the Ferrers courtyard was completely full..thus we moved onto the Peach House cafe a couple of minutes away in the garden centre. By contrast, this was very sparsely populated, we were 3rd in the queue. With just one lady, service was slow and appeared quite un-coordinated. We ordered and received our 2 Latte's and cake (1 bakewell slice...which was very nice) and awaited one toasted teacake and one bacon cob. Price was a hefty £18! Latte's were served luke warm, so after 25 mins with still no hot food they were half drank and somewhat cold. I politely enquired at the counter and the surprised lady, told me "just being done now". When I said that by now our coffees were stone cold she replied, "yes I know". It was obvious that our order has been forgotten as several later customers were receiving their hot food orders in the meantime! Cob and teacake arrived a few mins later and were shoved onto our table with zero decorum by the young waitress...no apologies offered. My wife, who had by now finished her drink, explained the situation and asked if there was any possibility of receiving another drink to accompany our warm food and was told, "I'll ask". A middle aged lady arrived clearly from the kitchen and asked what our issue was. When I told her of our wait, she was clearly ruffled and claimed that all warm food was dealt with as soon as the order was passed through. I said, well obviously there has been a failing in sending through our order. She shrugged her shoulders and huffed. My wife asked once again about receiving another drink, and with a distinct look of frustrated annoyance, the lady replied "OK!". After hearing raised voices from the kitchen/serving area that sounded like some reprisals were being administered (undignified and unprofessional to conduct in earshot of the customers- It seems apparent that this occurrence was not a "one-off"), the said "gratis" drink (One!) was duly shoved unceremoniously onto our table a few mins later. Having since read the numerous appalling reviews relating to the service levels from this establishment I have tried to be honest, accurate to avoid sensationalism. Naturally, the whole affair has left us feeling very negative about this place, a real shame and in contrast to many visits over several decades. The potential is evident. Clearly, this business needs a thorough review from top to bottom with acute focus on the critical details of organisation, team work and most importantly, customer focus...........or it will inevitably sink without trace, sooner rather than later. I sincerely hope someone will be big enough to take this and other genuine feedback on board. Good luck!

We call here simple because it is good food with a good choice and Service with a Smile at a very reasonable price, as I have a dietary requirement they are always happy to ensure I have nothing to be concerned about, The grandchildren when we are frequently at a local attraction say we want to go to Garden centre for our dinner and for the price and quality of what they get well it beats eating at home or anywhere else for that matter, often it is very very busy (that speaks for itself) but somehow they always manage to get your meal lovely and hot to your table without having to wait very long at all, the other thing is that is especially important is that they are always making sure the tables are very hygienically clean. Yes they are very good with the children very attentive to them, Thank you all! Ps Homemade Lemon or the Orange Cheesecake is delicious, had another portion Today 16/12/23 See you in the New year when we return from holiday until then merry Christmas and a happy New Year

When ordering the coffee we was asked do we want chocolate on top, we ordered Cappuccino and ended up with a mocha and they were cold, the food was average and portions were small, to be honest chips were good. When I asked for the condiments the response was like what ? Haha There is one older lady who seems really nice and clearly has some Customer service skills.

First visit in a long time, my word this place has gone downhill! At first it seems pleasant enough, we waited to place our order a long time as serving each customer seemed to take a very long time. We selected choices from the chalkboard menu of specials only to be told our choices were sold out. No apology, remained on the board for others to be similarly disappointed. The woman on the serving area was blunt and rude. Once we placed an order she asked where we would be sitting. We told her outside the main door. She gave us a numbered wooden spoon to display on our table to assist the server and snarkily remarked “we don't want to be shouting ourselves horse looking for you do we?”. I’m afraid I quipped back “we are literally the only people sitting out there!”. The food was at best average and very disappointing. Needs a culture overhaul, a makeover and a much better chef/cook! One to avoid.

I have come to this café many times before and never had too much of a problem however... this will be my last visit. After waiting 25 minutes in a line to order, I was asked to seat myself anywhere in the café. I'd then waited another 60 minutes at the table I'd sat at with none of my order to have still came. It was busy this day and with time to spare, I did not want to rush the staff. I went over to the desk to query when my order was coming, to which it had been figured that it had been taken to another table entirely. I'd then asked if I could have my order to go in which they did not seem pleased to fulfill. I'd waited another 10 minutes at the desk for my order as not wanting to seat myself again. Eventually, I requested a refund as my order still was not being prepared to which the response was 'No, It was not our mistake so we will not issue a refund'. Reluctantly, I waited... AGAIN and was finally (after 2 hours) handed a panini. I was so frustrated with the service that I had received that I sat outside in the freezing cold to eat my lunch as it was better than sitting in this café. Whilst spending an unseemly amount of time here on this day, I'd noticed that many other customer's were receiving similar service to myself. Not to mention the uncleanliness of the café itself as there were ants all over the floors. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend anyone to this café which is a shame as it has amazing businesses surrounding it to visit.

Busy Sunday lunchtime at the Peach house restaurant. My wife & I Waited for an indoor table for a number to deliver our food to. The crockery was still present from the prior customer along with a fabric finger plaster which had been left on the tabletop. My wife asked a waitress if the table could be cleaned as the order had now been placed. This was done in a very reluctant fashion with no pleasantries on her behalf and in my opinion an unacceptable customer attitude. The table was cleared with the exception of the fabric plaster which was noticed and left on the table., Another visit from the waitress after our drinks had arrived saw a minimal cursory table wipe, and now having been wrapped in a napkin by myself the plaster was taken away. Undoubtedly the staff member was stressed & busy delivering food during the busy period, and the timely clearing of tables for new customers was too much for her to do on her own. Would suggest to the management that more waiting staff are required at busy periods to improve the service, cleanliness and happiness of all. That said, the restaurant has a nice feel with an excellent menu choice & great food.

After exploring the garden centre, myself my elderly parents and my other half popped into the tea rooms Saturday ( 30/07/2022) . Wish I hadn’t of bothered. Where do I start ?! Firstly, appearance wise…. VILE ! old fashioned, dirty, outdated, smelly, uncomfortable the list goes on ! We braved it as the weather was nice and we gagging for a drink. Our tea cups was filthy, chipped and looked like they was bought in a bulk from a carboot ! As I was ordering my food/ drinks, I was so shocked and appalled by the way I overheard the manger talking to other staff. She sounded like a right bully. It was disgusting to hear. After that our food later arrived after waiting nearly 40 mins and to a young girl who looked like she didn’t want to be there and upset. With that in mind I wanted to eat our food and immediately leave. I witnessed staff walking in and out I assume wearing the same dirty apron as they cook in. If that’s not cross contamination then what is ?!!! Our food was cold but as I said wanted to get out asap. I came a few years back and it is not how it is now! Wrong and poor management has left this cafe in the dump. If this is what the business looks like then how does the management live ? IN THE SLUMS ?! Finally, I shall never ever be returning. What a vile place to eat and drink in.

Also I’m assuming the loud lady 🐮 in the back is the manager who is constantly shouting loud abusive language to their young staff!! It appears the drinks seemed very costly with a can of Pepsi at £1.60. My two Grandsons chose a healthy orange drink and they were £2.80 each. I appreciate there should be a bit of a mark up but with wholesale price around 80p, a 200 plus % increase is a bit too much in my view and being a bit greedy. With a light lunch for a family of four costing £45, sadly will think twice before we visit again.

Visited here on a very nice day in April. The place itself is surprisingly long and if the weather is nice you can sit outside. The food was very nice and I would definitely eat here again.

We went for a pot of tea a few months ago, and saw the food menu and thought "Wow, good menu, great prices & bet it's proper home cooking" My husband also clocked the fish finger baguette, and was sold. So, we ventured down this week when the Ferrers Centre was open and said we'd eat there. Obvs, he picked fish fingers, and I had beef stew and dumplings. His looked lovely. Not Birdseye fingers, but homemade, with chips and salad. But the stew.....1) It came in a separate dish (suspicious!!!!) 2) It had been made and frozen and defrosted (hence the separate dish) and 3) It hadn't been "nuked" sufficiently after defrosting and was still luke warm and congealed (like when you take gravy/stock out of the freezer) and the dumpling had turned into a small brick. I didn't complain as it was £7ish, but we won't be going back.

We went for the garden center and popped in the so call restaurant for a bite to eat. Well the staff were so rude and unhelpful tables had not been cleaned, should have walked out. We got a drink, omelette and baguette. I don't know what they did to the omelette but it was awful, I left it and complained to the so called manager Julie - who to be honest did not seem bothered in the slightest. let just say I had an upset tummy that day. Would not eat there again even if they paid me. Horrible place.

Four of us visited on Monday 13th August for our Mums birthday lunch. Started with a coffee which was nice before looking around the garden centre. Went back in for some lunch which was a chip butty, Ploughman's which looked very nice, and two cheese omelette & chips. Have never seen omelettes like them, in fact one of our party though they were battered fish because they were so brown on the outside. Should really have sent them back at this point as the look and texture of them was not normal but not wanting to make a fuss we left most of it. I was then sick with an upset stomach for the next two days which I can only put down to the horrible omelette. How I wish we had sent them back! An email was sent by my sister in law the next day (Tues) saying the omelettes weren't nice and asked if anyone else had complained of being ill. It is now Sunday and they've not even had the decency to reply. The Stables Tea Room was closed when we went but we shall make sure they are open next time we go as won't be eating here again.

We visit this restaurant with family pretty regularly and have seen it go from bad to worse. Two teenage girls seem to be doing all the cooking, serving and clearing away. Cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. We were prepared for a forty minute wait and sat for almost an hour before food arrived. This took away time we could have spent browsing the garden centre and purchasing items on sale. I would definitely avoid this restaurant Saturday lunchtimes before Christmas because it just is not run properly. Food is just about acceptable if you don't mind grubby tables and an hour wait. Avoid.

If the garden centre was not in the Staunton estate it would be fine as a garden centre cafe (not really a restaurant ) as has nice seating space and the usual cakes, jackets etc . But as there is another cafe a few hundred yards away which is better I suspect most people choose the Stables cafe instead.

We visited two months after our last visit. It was very quiet. The coffee was fine and the hot chocolate not too sweet. We did not have any food but there were cakes etc. on offer. We only saw one staff member at the counter, but given how few customers were present that was not surprising. Bearing in mind that this is a facility provided by an excellent garden centre, it does the job it sets out to do. It is hard to know what more it could do. We noticed a small outside play area for children that we had overlooked last time. The sliding door access is difficult for wheelchair and pushchair access but it is a period feature of the original building so should be retained. We can't put our fingers on why we were not tempted to return for lunch at the end of our visit to the garden centre but we weren't. If we had, that might have enabled us to write a more useful review. Maybe next time.

Called here because the tearooms at the stables nearby hadn't opened. Pleased I did as the breakfast was super. Tasty and large with black pudding and hash browns as a bonus. My only criticism is that I could see a small breakfast as an option which they need to offer as not everyone has my appetite (not even me some days).

Hardly on the beaten track, this place is set well off the main road. Having finally located the garden centre after around 30 minutes driving around the area, the restaurant is then further secluded within the many outbuildings of the site. A rather peculiar, and very stiff, sliding door gains you access to a reasonably modern and appealing dining area. The counter, however, didn't seem adequately staffed as there were long queues there throughout most of my visit. The menu was a bit limited and the food no more than OK. Not sure it was worth the effort!
