Not bad, but wasnt clean and lacked character. Probably wont return. Staff didnt seem to care, tables coverd in the last persons food.

Been going steadily downhill over the last year to eighteen months. Staff seem to not care about proper service, tables are not cleared and there is a general lack of cleanliness. Hot drink facilities are usually poor. Cheap and cheerful is no longer cutting it with several new competitors opening up in the town. Sadly, I don't see this branch lasting much longer unless some upgrades in standards and training are made urgently. We are not likely to go back which is a shame because we were weekly visitors.

Yuk! Pre-cooked poached eggs - cold in the middle! They gladly replaced them, however, they were exactly the same - tasteless and cold.

What a lovely weatherspoons. Visited Sunday morning. Wasn’t busy. Lovely clean and tidy. Ordered breakfast. Came pretty quick. Only grumble food wasn’t “hot” but Luke warm.

Terrible Tables dirty. The staff just serve the first person they see, no awareness of who is waiting and in which order Poor training.

Popped in for quick lunch and a couple of pints. As usual most of the empty tables was full of pots and glasses to be moved by customers. Ordered by the app and shockingly the drinks came out fairly quick, food to follow. Food was ok on this visit. Thanks.

Visited for breakfast and it seems communication isnt a strong point, plates came out with 6 hash browns on each plate and no eggs, also it was all cold, when we asked the server he said he'd go and ask why, he came back and said they were out of fried eggs and only had poached, we said we'd have poached then, off he went and came back and said we can't as we'd had extra hash browns, I explained that wasn't our choice, the cook had made that choice for us without asking, plus it was cold so returned both breakfasts and they said they'd redo them.. Both came back obviously just microwaved, missing the mushrooms we'd paid extra for, still no eggs and the now soggy x6 hashbrowns. This was the second time we'd visited for breakfast and it had been a total waste of time, should stick to selling drinks as they really can't serve food very well.

Walked in to dirty tables with plates and glasses on . Managed to find a clear one . We stayed just over an hour ,the tables still hadn’t been cleared . Had a pizza it was undercooked and cold Not going again

Understaffed over priced & portion size is a joke. I’m not a fan of ashby spoons for some reason it’s a cracking venue but it’s just not as good as other spoons. Are they counting chips are they eating the food on the way out or dropping it on the floor! Very poor quality food. Lots of work that needs to be done on this place.

Went for breakfast come out frozen sent back. Then it was microwaved and shocking the cheese on the wrap and vansied in to a hard crust. Manager said she watched them cook it when she went outside. Attitude stinks,think maybe need new staff or the manager to go on a course on how to speak to customers

We go here quite often, the food is cheap and cheerful and service is fast and polite. I just wish they would clear and clean the tables more often. You always have to clear the table you want to sit at but are then left with a wet, sticky table. Sort this and it would be an excellent place to eat.

Visited Monday afternoon. came with some friends for meal & some drinks!! Will not be returning. Staff were rude, food was cold, staff on phones, manager seemed to be not doing an awful lot to encourage the staff. Why has this place gone downhill? After talking to a few of the regulars, they seem to think that it's gone downhill since the new manager took over?? the last time we visited was early March, I was served and looked after a lovely lady. Leanne I think her name was, so polite, couldn't do enough for us. Where is she? Can the place get more people like her please because the place is lacking a fantastic character. I'll visit once you have some good staff. What a shame.

Came on Wednesday night. Understood no draught beer as temp high .. the food was terrible, ordered the new chicken with gravy ... food cold sent some back , came back with food when I'd finished . Staff gossip amongst themselves and play with their mobile phones. Customer focus has been a problem ever since Wetherspoons took over this place. Some respected experienced staff have left since the new manager took over. Remaining staff seem to be unhappy and don't hide it.

My daughter and her friends visited this pub hoping to have their tea. Unfortunately the manager refused them because they were in their uniform. They were well behaved and just hungry. Not been a problem in the past. Fare enough! Rules are rules but please inform them before you let the girls order and pay for the food. My daughters account as still not been refunded. Disgusting! I’m really hoping they are going to be refunded soon. This happened Thursday June 23rd! For a weatherspoons this place is really nice. They have a lovely garden, the food is decent and the staff are very friendly.

Had a drink and a meal at The Shoulder of Mutton. To find a clean table was very difficult. You would think the pub should be extra clean, especially with Covid around. Most tables that we found had not been cleaned from the previous user....

Pleased to see a good sized outdoor smoke and vape free area. Correctly enforced my a member of staff which was great to see. Food came quickly and decent portions. Nice undercover seating outside .

Just started to eat out again. Our food arrived fairly quickly but my small plate of ham, egg and chips was plentiful but not hot enough. My husbands chicken was very hot but again the chips were not! We will not go back there.

The waitress put food on our table which we presumed one of our friends had ordered which had quickly left to go outside, they then realised they put the items in the wrong table and try to make us pay for them, they rudely took all our food and drinks of us (most of which we had paid for) I politely said can you check the cameras to see what happened and she told me I would be barred. Then they refused to serve and and kicked us out. In the toilets was wee up the walls and overall had a dirty feel and bad atmosphere. Would NOT recommend and will not be going back, considering the length this has been closed and between us we had spent over £100 in the short time we were there due to staff mistake.

Frequent visitor! So nice to see the place finally open. Visited yesterday evening with my husband. Was greeted & welcomed by Leanne, was very professional on all levels regarding COVID-19, wearing of masks & sanitising. Leanne is a very happy bubbly member of staff & she brings so much life to the place which is so heartwarming to see as I’ve seen other members of staff looking miserable & like they don’t want to be there..didn’t wait long at all for our drinks or food. Very pleasant evening. Will be returning at the weekend. Welcome back guys ❤️

covid 19 health care, could be cleaner, tracking forms to fill in at the entry. cutlery not wrapped and touched the table when put down. meal, fish and chips and a scampi, both good quality, hot and with all the trimmings. self service for coffees. waitress was masked and asked me to put on mask to pay at the bar, service good.

This was our first and last visit . We used the app to make it easier for them as requested . Then our breakfast arrived before coffee cups and orange juice then i asked for pepper and i was told i will get some when i can ( abruptly )Which never arrived , once we finished eating staff where walking past our table clearing others , the plates where left for over an hour and never collected , which where still there when we left at 11.00am .they where extremely short staffed , however this doesn't mean they can be extremely rude and speak to customers as if they where being enrolled in a prison camp . One member of your staff needs to have some high intensity customer relation training.

Coronavirus has caused considerable problems for retailers and hospitality companies, but this Weatherspoons has everything in place. Felt very comfortable and safe.

In August my husband and I visited this restaurant in August and we’ve never been back!!! We loved Wetherspoons and went every week but not now! It was a joke as regards staff and customer safety! We were traumatised! Fabulous staff pre COVID but not a clue at this time!!! We were lent over delivering our meals etc etc!!! We got out as fast as possible. NO WONDER YOU HAVE 66 cases - it’s not the staffs fault it’s your leadership and guidance!Staff Wear masks! Insist that customers stick to the guidelines! PROTECT OUR COUNTRY ABD TOWN!

I visited here yesterday with my two daughters and my husband and we were very disappointed! It's the first time that we've been here since lockdown and we were surprised at how quiet it was for 1.30pm on a sunny Saturday!! My daughter wanted a pizza but they didn't have any pizzas! I wanted a BLT on granary bread but I had to have white bread as I was informed that they hadn't had granary bread since reopening! Our food came with a drink but I had to pay extra for Sauvignon Blanc as they hadn't got any pinot grigio which was the wine included! My daughter wanted fudge cake for dessert but was informed that they only had apple crumble! We always visit Weatherspoons whenever we go out as they are exceptionally good value, however on this occasion, they failed our expectations!!

We are regulars here as its not so far for my grandma to walk! Eric at the front is lovely and megan always makes brilliant drinks with a big smile on her face! As a spoons goes it's one of the better ones!

Went to Wetherspoons for breakfast. Social distancing was non existent. This included the staff, also no masks and no-one kept to the distancing markers and were not challenged by the staff to do so. Tables were not sanitised after use. Felt very uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave. Won't be going back in a hurry.

We went to this pub for a couple of drinks on Sunday night.Initially we sat outside but the beer garden was full of kids (yes I know that makes me sound old!!) who were swearing at the top of their voices. To be fair to the staff one lady did come out and ask them to be quite but her warning didn't last long so we went inside.The table we initially sat down on didn't look like it had been wiped for hours which is not go, especially when there should be extra cleaning going on at the minute with covid. After a while another table came free with what looked like more comfy chairs so we moved across (we had been in the pub for at least 40 minutes by this point and no one had been anywhere near to attempt to wipe down our table). The people who had vacated the 2nd table had been eating so we moved their empty plates to an adjoining table and ordered some more drinks via the app. The drinks were delivered but the member of staff made no attempt to take away any of the empty plates on the adjoining table (nor wipe the table we had originally sat at).The ladies toilets are 2 flights up (not ideal in heels). There were 4 cubicles on one side and all 4 of them were stuffed full with toilet paper!! Initially I thought someone had just been messing around so tried to clear one so I could use it only to find that there was NO water to any of the toilets at all - the water was running because the taps worked fine - so I gave up.After 3 drinks, and around 2 hours, we eventually left and during the whole 2 hours we were sat inside the pub not one member of staff came by the wipe down any of the tables we were using, or any tables nearby.Come on Wetherspoons get a grip!!! Simple hygiene should be a given in a place that serves food and drink but in these days of Covid19 it should be even more prevalent - it appears not at The Shoulder of Mutton! There is no excuse for this as the pub was possibly only half full - it is not like the staff were run off their feet!We won't be returning.

I came to the pub today for lunch with my daughters for the first time since lockdown. We were visiting family in the area. It was well organised and clean. The food was good, typical Wetherspoons food, cheap and cheerful but I have to say there’s a girl working called Darcie who really deserves a mention. She served us and made us feel so welcome and was so friendly. Great service, we will be stopping by again when we come back through Ashby!

I visited this Wetherspoons in Ashby this week and I’ve got to say, although there are some obvious changes due to the Covid situation, the pub remains a lovely place to visit!! The staff really do make it; One member of staff, in particular, really makes the pub come alive, Darcie!! She is bubbly, professional and extremely good at her job. Thank you for making one of my first trips out to a pub after lock down, such fun!!

I visited shoulder of mutton today with an old friend for lunch. We ordered our lunch through the app and had fantastic table service right away. There was no wait for our drinks and food followed shortly afterwards! We were served by Darcie Who couldn’t do enough for us and made sure we had everything we needed. First time at a pub since lockdown and was surprised how well things was laid out and well organised. Had a good breakfast and the staff was very friendly. Will be going back very soon.

Monday lunchtime, weather was warm and dry so we thought we`d have a quick drink in the garden which was quiet. Very pleasant. You could use the app or just use your card. Easy, no problems. Cheap and cheerful.

Typical Wetherspoons, well laid out, clean,tidy and excellent staff - very friendly and welcoming. We visit at least once a week and it's always the same.

This is a really good Wetherspoons. The staff are really good and the food and drinks all you would expect The problem is that the seats and soft furnishings are absolutely filthy ' so caked in grime that they have grimy shiny appearance. Such a shame to have let standards drop to this level. I certainly would not wear my best clothes here.COME ON GIVE THE PLACE A THOROUGH CLEAN! !!!!!

Monday17th Feb, my wife and I went for lunch, it was very busy but the ordering was quick and the food arrived in a fair time and was hot. there were a lot of groups with children and all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

You know what you’re getting here but some are nicer than others and this is an old building with a new light airy space at the back so covers both options! Lovely food, clean toilets!!

Great place to go for a few beers ,lovely pub with plenty of choice of drinks.. The breakfasts are really good aswell.

Visited today with family of 6, confusion on ordering as bar staff said items were not available when actually they were. No coffee available. Food arrived luke warm, plates were cold. Some food seemed overcooked and hard, naan bead completely cold. Tables were not cleared at all. The pub was fairly quiet at 12.30 , plenty of staff just poor service today. Nowhere near the usual standards.

Been coming here a long time and other reviews are about right concerning food etc. Good selection of drinks, good menu, cheap and cheerful, hit and miss with the food but generally a decent meal. Can be packed on a Friday and Saturday evening so expect a wait to be served. Coffees are good with free refills. Only faults, very dirty carpets, makes the place look filthy. They are black in places. And the toilets need some TLC and even after the cleaners have gone up to 'clean' they still smell like pee!! But otherwise I love a spoons.

Nice to treat ourselves to lunch out. The Shoulder of Mutton in Ashby de la Zouch is one of the better Wetherspoons. Enjoyed a juicy steak and salad. Good value for money and very enjoyable.

Although the entrance off the main street is like trying to navigate a maze (you'd struggle to get out in an emergency!!) once inside the pub is of a decent size and has a garden at the rear. I only had a coffee which tasted quite good, but the ambience was pleasant and the noise low.

Popped in as needed a quick, cheap and cheerful bite to eat with my daughter whilst my younger child was at a birthday party.

A wide ranging menu, helpful staff, excellent value. It was exceptionally busy and took a while but it arrived hot and tasted good.

We stopped in for a drink before dinner during an overnight stay. I thought when we first went in it was quite small however the further you venture in the larger it gets with a substantial beer garden at the rear. Drinks are a good value and the service was good. To be fair as a rule I am not usually a fan of the Weatherspoons brand but this place has changed my perception.

We go here a lot, it’s cheap & good value & usually quick service. The last 2 visits haven’t been the same.

After just moving house, my kitchen was not yet up to speed. Also we had no wi-fi, so we had a couple of breakfasts and a few lunches here recently. Their wi-fi is not always very good, bu the place is always busy as specials are good value.

Sometimes call in for a traditional breakfast - tastes OK and pretty good value, Beware of the queue for the coffee machines though (especially when they break down which seems to happen a lot).

Arrived for breakfast 10am, restaurant was busy, lady behind the bar was superb, under ridiculous pressure due to shortage of staff, but worked calmly and relentlessly taking orders, fixing coffee machine and topping up sugar milk etc. At 11.30 and still with no breakfast order arriving at table we decided to abandon breakfast. We did not complain , the reason for this was people had been at the bar waiting to complain for 30 minutes plus. I did contact venue via there complaint website, no reply,apology ..nothing. Very bad ,management you should be ashamed. I just hope you appreciate your staff who worked so hard for you, and at least thanked them.

Been to this restaurant many times with my family but never have I had to wait as long for my breakfast as today. It’s father’s day which is understandable, it’s going to be busy. But they are so short of staff that we have been waiting for our breakfast for an hour and a half. The table next to us have been waiting for 2 hours. We’re all so hungry and bored sitting at our dirty sticky tables. There’s plates absolutely everywhere that no one is clearing away. Definitely needed more staff on today.

Always clean and tidy compared with many Wetherspoon pubs. I like to grab my breakfast or lunch here at least once a week. The service is always a good standard, with friendly staff.

Great to table service, good choice of food and drink and good staff. Lovely seating area outside if the weather permits. Only downsize is the toilets are upstairs and it’s more than one flight, the downstairs disabled toilet requires asking for a key which is a bit inconvenient.

Firstly the service was brilliant, the staff were friendly and the service was faultless! But my main point has to be the air conditioning units, they kept the public house a comfortable temperature for all, the staff seemed very hot so it was good that this was turned on. I sat under the air con unit as obviously this would be the coolest place to sit, if I didn't want the air con unit to blow on me I would sit somewhere else in the pub, but I didn't, I sat under the air con unit and it was divine. I did hear someone complain about it but I would suggest them not to sit under the air con unit, because when you sit under the air con unit the cooled air will be more likely to make you feel cold, luckily for me the staff didn't turn off the air con unit, making my experience much more enjoyable.

Went to Wetherspoon for a mid week drink. Asked for air conditioning to be turned off as it was blowing cold air.

This wetherspoons is one of the best locally, the food is good and comes out quickly and you can't beat the prices for drink! I'd say this wetherspoons has one of the best atmospheres but due to its location it's also one of the busiest!

Met up with friends for a lunchtime meal. Very busy place, but was quieter from 2pm. Good choice from the menu. Friendly helpful staff. All our food was enjoyable and hot.

Busy but staff worked hard. Visited midweek and early evening but fish and chips off menu - all gone! Found other choices though form a good ranging menu. Good ale/drink choices too. God value.

Visited for family meal, ordered food and drinks. Ordered glass of milk for my son, this was sour and should not have been served. I was not aware of this until he told me it tasted disgusting. I took back to the bar, I was told I'd get a replacement but I opted for glass of water instead. This water had a dirty look so I didn't let my son drink it. Ended up buying a bottle of water. Just hoping now my son doesn't become ill as a result of this!!

Went in last night for food with the family. We are a regulars here, and don't have high expectation but feel it's great value for money when you don't fancy cooking. Was served by a young dark haired girl behind the bar at 5.30pm. She was probably the most rude person I have ever been served by. No manners, looked down her nose at me, and was very unhelpful when asked basic questions about the menu. Made me feel so unwelcome and not valued as a customer. Food was the usual standard, and the chap who brought the food out was great. Wish I had made a note of the bar persons name. Really put me off going in again.

Really great pub experience, very clean and it feels a bit more upmarket to most Wetherspoons, I love the Empire state burger, The steaks & the Curries. The beers take a bit of beating too, always some great craft ales.

Normally no problem here, we visit often when in the area and enjoy it here.

Last Thursday and Saturday we were able to go to the S of M for breakfast and were not that impressed. Both times the tables we sat at were not clean with remnants of the previous occupants salt , pepper and drinks still on the table. The food served has been average and not to the standard of the Wetherspoons in Swadlincote. Also there seems to be a lack of staff and the drinks machines are always running out creating queues. Think we'll try a different place in Ashby next time.

Bonjour, I am on a lifelong quest to find the best casual dining experience in the world. I recently tried the Shoulder of Mutton in ye olde market town of Ashby de la Zouch - famous for Adrian Mole and the defunct magazine for ZX Spectrum owners, ironically called Crash!

Daughters day off so mums treat to take my son and his sister to Wetherspoons for lunch. It was a Monday lunch in early January but the place was busy. We ordered and the meals arrived. All came as we had ordered but it just seemed bland, mass produced and no where near as good as it used to be. Jump forward to this Sunday lunch. My husband and I bobbed into town and he suggested we popped in for a quick lunch as we weren't eating till tea time. I hesitated but gave the place the benefit of the doubt. Bad move. We waited ages for the 3 dishes for £10. A soup, chicken strips and the battered prawns with chilli sauce. When they did eventually arrive my soup came with a spoon, no knife to spread the butter on the bread, and a thick skin on top of it. My husband didn't even have a spoon with his. When asked if he needed anything he said a fork please. A fork duly arrived. No knife, no napkin..in fact he went looking for napkins but none to be found. I left 2/3rds of my soup. He ate his although they looked like they had been deep fried 3 hours previously. To be fair we didn't complain, so we have no idea if they would of replaced the food with fresher, and the boy behind the bar did come and wipe the table after I asked him to, but I had to move the dirty plates and glasses from the previous customers. Such a shame as the place could be fantastic with the right leadership. Definitely gone down hill.

cheap and cheerful, food is always good.... set in the old town of ashby and in a traditional old building. only down side is toilets right at the top so bit of a hike.... being a listed building cant do much about it.

Come here most Sunday mirnings for breakfast and hardly ever have any issues. The staff are always really friendly and very helpful. We have tried other places in Ashby for breakfast but always come back here. It makes us feel like we are on holiday, love Ashby, love The Shoulder for breakfast.

Visited for breakfast after the school run. First breakfast was cold and had to send it back. Second breakfast came out Luke warm. Several other customers were returning their food because it was cold and semi raw eggs being served. Staff were brilliant but food atrocious. Sorry it’s a shame we used to really enjoy visiting but probably won’t bother again.

Haven’t been in here since the menu change but I had what I usually have which is the Buttermilk Chicken Burger. The price had gone up and the quality had gone down, it tasted like a completely different burger with fewer chips. We then tried the mini doughnuts which were very average. Sorry Weatherspoons you’ve gone downhill and I doubt I’ll be eating here again.

All Wetherspoons are the same in terms of menu and drink selection but The Shoulder of Mutton is definitely a favourite for it's lovely decor, cozy atmosphere and touches of local history.

Food is surprisingly good quality for the prices paid. Very good service and staff very helpful and friendly.

Lovely place. Clean tables, friendly staff with prompt services. Food arrived within minutes and was of good quality. Thoroughly recommended and we shall be returning soon :)

We popped in for breakfast and as with all Weatherspoons they are busy on a Saturday morning. As always the breakfasts are excellent value and quality. What we didn't know there was a 45 minute wait for food. Someone at the bar could've said this was the case. Neither did we receive an apology for the long wait when it eventually turned up. We have visited many a Weatherspoons on a busy Saturday morning and never had to wait so long for breakfast. We won't be going back to this one any time soon.

Stopped here only quickly for a pint after a long journey so can't comment on the food but the place was lovely, the ale choice was fantastic and the quality of the ale is worth mentioning - brilliant! Lovely staff too and a good beer garden - great Spoons!

Only my second tome in a Wetherspoons. Good value breakfast and as much tea as I needed. 10 of us met for breakfast, quick service. Good breakfast. Waiters were great but the young girl who took my order was surly with no manners. Please/thank you and SMILE. Would definitely do this again. Such good value for £4.99

I'm 50/50 on this place. I don't hate it, certainly don't love it. Food ok for the price u pay. Tables are left dirty, usually always end up shifting plates so I can sit at a table. But one thing I always say, and its been the same for years, there is never ever EVER enough bar staff. Your stood there for ages waiting to be served and most the time someone gets served who hasent been standing there as long as u. Poor bar managment. Its aint rocket science really. I do still go in here, but I haven't actually been to the bar myself all year

Always good value and tasty food for a morning meeting. The big breakfast sets you up for the day ahead!!

Very good value as with all Wetherspoon pubs. This pub is clean and tidy with good service. It’s all you can ask.

We called in on a Saturday lunch and were really surprised at how good the food was. I had a chicken burger and it was fresh, tasty And well presented. But the pub really needs a refurb, it's very tiered and grubby inside.

When we go to Ashby-de-la-Zouch we always call in for a meal and it’s always nicely cooked, the staff are polite and the refillable coffee is very good 🤗

Popped in on a weekday lunchtime and the first impressions were the place was spotless and had great decor.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was good & quick. Food is cheap & cheerful and all microwaved.
