The George and Dragon in North West Leicestershire

Went for a family sunday dinner. We booked well in advance. To get to the table you have to walk through the main bar which was full of football fans shouting at the tv. Not a great welcome. Place was decorated lovely and the table was away from the busy bar. We all ordered, most of us a roast dinner and was then informed there was no chicken, belly of pork or beef so the only option was leg of lamb so we went for that. Waitress then came back to say there wasn't enough lamb so one of us had to compromise. The dinner arrived there was one small bowl of cauli cheese between 6 of us and was charged for an extra bowl £3.50. The dinner was small veg also came in little bowls and we ordered extra. The lamb was not was was on the menu. There was no leg and you got a coupke of slices of lamb. Waitress really tried her best but I felt she was very embarrassed. We ordered dessert, most of us cheesecake. Waitress returned to say only 1 cheesecake left. Why does this pub have no food? They knew we were coming well in advance. Food was nice not enough of it for the price. Staff were great can't fault them

As always excellent service and great food shell our server for our meal was super friendly helpful and couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a nice meal -thank you!

I had the best time at my birthday party last night. We were looked after brilliantly by Josh and the team all night. The food was the usual excellent standard. The music Connor played was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better night, thank you so much.

The worst service I have had for a long time. We had to ask someone to take our order after we had been seated for Sunday lunch for 45 minutes. The service was so slow it almost went backwards. Barely any meat on the Sunday Roast and no green vegetables. We always leave a tip but not this time. Avoid if you want any sort of quality.

We live approximately 10 minutes drive away from this establishment but have never got around to visiting, as it was my birthday today my partner suggested we give it a try, well all I can say is I wish we’d tried this place sooner as the experience was excellent, upon arrival we were greeted and within less than 45 seconds we were asked what we would like to drink, these arrived promptly and after review of menu which had something for every pallet we placed our order for starter and main course, the food was piping hot and served efficiently and in a courteous manner, my partner ordered dessert and I opted for hot chocolate with Jamieson & orange, the lady apologised and said they did not have Jamieson and offered Bells as an alternative no problem to me at all, The service throughout was good old fashioned hospitality, table check back to ensure all was satisfactory and also asked if further drinks required, this is how a public house should be run, we will most definitely be returning with friends due to how valued we we made to feel. We also asked if they were dog friendly and the reply was yes, our Westie enjoys a night out in a friendly pub 🙂 Thank You, Ian & Paul

Popped in to see the new menu and sample some of the dishes. Quite impressive and even the vegan dishes sounded delicious but being an omnivore I just had to try thechicken and mushroom pie served with Mash and Mushy peas. It might sound a simple dish but it was still amazing. I will definitely be back to try some more dishes. Venue clean and staff friendly and very attentive.

Had a starter and main with a friend - food was great and staff even better. Went outside to meet family and children in the very large beer garden, very nice with a little wildlife to look at too.

Pub and restaurant with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food . This is no ordinary pub grub venue. We have enjoyed every meal here and today's steak pie was outstanding. Home made, top quality with top restaurant standards. None of your bog standard ready made gravy. Real jus with melt in the mouth steak. Highly recommended for all .

Out for a friend's birthday this place is so welcoming the service at the bar is brilliant lots of staff working and the food absolutely lovely good portion size all freshly cooked and delicious. We had fish Friday which was 2 large beer battered haddock homemade chips mushy peas and tartare sauce for just £24! Was so fresh and such a lovely light beer batter. We will all be back soon.

Small friendly local pub, excellent garden which is very well maintained and very child friendly. There are 2 bouncy castles to choose from Excellent food menu with plenty to choose from. Good carparking options.

We have been here multiple times for food and have always been happy with the experience and quality. However we called in last week on a whim as it was a nice evening so thought we would have a drink and some food in the garden. Everything was fine until our food arrived. My child went to the bar to ask for salt and vinegar and was told it was £1. I thought the bar staff must’ve misunderstood and thought he wanted crisps so my husband went to ask. He too was told that to have salt and vinegar outside you had to pay £1! When you are paying £15-£20 per main course plus drinks you don’t expect to have to pay for condiments. It’s not expensive to buy sachets of vinegar and salt. Due to this we have vowed not to return unfortunately unless this crazy charge changes.

This is such a friendly pub n the food was amazing. All home cooked. What ever you order, you won't be dissapointed Will be going back for sure

Called in here for some lunch, was planning only to have a light bite, but was tempted to have something larger as there wasn't a great deal of difference between light bite and main, everything was reasonably priced. We walked in unbooked, but was easily accomodated. Service was friendly and swift in terms of getting our drinks, food took a bit longer as a party of walkers arrived about the same time as us, but I don't mind waiting if the food is good and warm. I ordered ribs and wings, the ribs were mainly bone which was slightly disappointing, everything else was alright, the highlight being the coleslaw. The good lady had dirty fries with duck and hoisin, on reflection I wish I'd picked that. There was nothing outstanding but equally nothing really poor, prices were right for decent pub grub and we weren't put off returning. I guess you get what you pay for.

Went there for Father's Day, great time had by all, 5 adults, 2 children, 1 dog.

This was our second visit and it will not be our last. We couldn't fault anything from the warm welcome, to the service and excellent food. Hats off to you all on a very busy day. The quality of the food was excellent, well done chef and kitchen team as well as the hard working, smiley, patient front of house. Loved it .

Lovely food at excellent prices, nicely decorated, great staff and service. A good choice for groups with mixed dietary requirements, I had the best vegan fajitas and vegan chocolate cake ever and will absolutely be coming back!

We were a party of 26 and had an excellent evening. Everyone enjoyed their food and the staff were a credit to the establishment. A really enjoyable evening.

A great find. Looks like a proper community pub that caters for the whole family. Check out the pens with chickens, guinea fowl and ducks. We hadn't booked, but still found a table. From start to finish, the staff were brilliant; helpful, efficient, friendly and the food they brought us was ridiculously tasty. The menu forces us to go back one day soon, there is such a choice (even kebabs) and we know we'll be in good hands in a place with a nice atmosphere and big ticks for beer, food, servers and price. Well done, you've nailed it.

I've driven past here for 14 years and finally decided to go in and I wish we had stopped in sooner. Food was really good and reasonably priced. They knew how to cook a delicious rare and a blue steak and they didn't skimp on the sauce. Will definitely return.

Celebrated at the George and Dragon, for our works Christmas Party this year. The food was really tasty and well presented, staff friendly and courteous and the room we were in was very smart, clean and presentable. Will definitely be returning! Thanks everyone

We had a lovely lunch here today! Great menu with lots of choice, partner had the 3 meat kebab which looked amazing and the portion was huge. Tasted so nice! I chose the smothered hunters chicken. The homemade chips that came with that were amazing. Definitely recommend and will definitely be back. The service was great too, really friendly!

Not been here for years we had a lovely lunch . Pate was great . My husband had the steak and ale pie full of meat . I had fajita and Chocolate brownie all was very enjoyable . Customer service by michelle was excellent all in all excellent experience .

We had a great meal today at this lovely countryside pub, great choice on the menu especially as 3 of us are vegetarians. The food arrived promptly and we were very impressed and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend for food or just drinks

The staff were very rude - as they handed us drinks, it spilled all over us and they gave people the wrong drinks. They even gave an 11-year old a vodka and told her it was water, and gave a person who doesn’t drink vodka and told them it was coke. They seemed extremely unenthusiastic and missed out drinks from orders multiple times. The pizzas were also undercooked and had a sickly amount of cheese, and as the family came home they felt quite unwell and uncomfortable. Would not recommend for a family meal as your orders will be messed up a frustrating amount.

Went for lunch a couple of days ago as I had won some vouchers in a raffle. Ordered at the bar, food arrived quickly, but both starters and main course were brought out at the same time. Starter was lovely, main was not the best, dirty fries with steak, stilton and onion,. Was a congealed mess. Steak was bland and chewy, and it was not topped with stilton, it was nuked With tasteless cheese. Husbands scampi was ok, his chips were a little lacklustre. Overall, glad I paid by voucher as I certainly wouldn't have parted with cash for it.

Worst place I’ve ever been. Customer service was none existent they were rude and abrupt. Food was not great. Won’t be going there again. Felt like a working men’s club. So noisy

I like coming here to eat. Come with my mum at weekday lunchtimes & my son in evenings. Plenty of choices available on menu, our food is always served promptly to table & really tasty. The pub has a welcoming atmosphere, nice decor & clean. The chef & servers are very friendly & attentive. Would certainly recommend.

We've had a couple of horrendous experiences here in years gone by, which have put us off returning. However, we'd heard really good things recently. We attended a christening and it was lovely. An area reserved for us, a nice buffet and (mostly) friendly staff. It was busy at the bar when we arrived (but we were booked in, so it wasn't a surprise), but one girl in particular got very flustered and to be honest, rather rude. However, she regained herself later on. All in all, although it looks a little tired on the outside, it's a lovely pub with good food and looks smart inside. We'll return to sample the menu!

Never been here before and we called in for a late lunch - around 1.30pm. Was quietish......which was nice. All three of us fancied something plain, so we had ham, egg & chips and onion rings! Ham was thick and tasty. Chips were homemade and yummy and the onion rings - the batter was so light and they weren't greasy at all. We all really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back and taste some more dishes!

Nice place, great food and drink however I was shocked to find the premises does not have a disabled w/c or a baby changing facility in the gents w/c. As a father to a 2yr old I was told to use the baby changing facilities in the female w/c and then no efforts were made to stop females entering the w/c whilst I was in there changing my sons nappy!?? Your venue is plenty large enough to install a disabled w/c with a baby changing facility in for both male and female parents to use so why haven't you invested in this?

Lovely family friendly pub and restaurant. Very welcoming with great service. Waiting staff (especially Jack!) are fantastic and attentive. Food portions are big and good value for money. Large drinks collection. Gin connoisseurs will appreciate the effort here.

Food is excellent, decor is very good and chairs are comfortable. Portion are BIG so be hungry.

Had a family lunch for my husbands retirement. The food the drinks where gorgeous and can't recommend enough. But the icing on the cake was the staff. Really helpful and friendly and couldn't have made you more welcome. Well done everyone.

Good food and great facilities for the kids. Bar and service staff were friendly and efficient… shame they were let down by who I believe is the manager/landlord? Exceptionally rude when we asked for clarification on the bill. Argumentative, arrogant and highly unprofessional. Judging by other negative reviews, I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves an equally arrogant and rude response to this review. He caused a scene in the bar and made us feel very uncomfortable because we asked if it was right that a shandy was the same price as a pint of beer on our bill. Ruined an otherwise lovely meal with family and friends.

We went on a Saturday night, busy, but good atmosphere and could not complain about the service. Really warm, inviting and friendly. Menu is one of the best, something for everyone, and a fab selection for vegans. I actually couldn't decide as there were so many dishes I fancied. Great place. We will be back soon. Thank you

Lovely steak meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary dogs welcome too which is a defo plus this time of year. Steaks cooked to perfection lovely sides and salad, stilton sauce extremely good and the beer battered onion rings were to die for. Staff are so welcoming and friendly just can't do enough for you.

Never had a bad meal here. Food and service always top notch. One small critism it can get a little loud as the bar is next to the dinning area. It's well worth a visit. Great staff.

Ww’ve been several times over the last two years and enjoyed consistently fabulous food, atmosphere & service. The Sunday roasts are superb, Landlady and waitresses very friendly. Highly recommend.

My husband and myself popped in for a drink while our caravan was being repaired we opted for a kebab quissdilla, my husband can't have cheese so we asked if they did it without and they said of course it came and it was absolutely amazing, the staff are so friendly and helpful you couldn't ask for more we give it 10 stars.

Good value and service. Will have small breakfast next time! Would have been 5 stars but menu does not show £2 charge for coffee/tea.

Wonderful Wonderful, atmosphere, staff , service, food, beer and wine selection, outside play areas, the pub restaurant themes were all there to accommodate everyone and enjoyed by everyone, this was my first experience of the George & Dragon and nothing was disappointing We will all be back

I would like to thank all the staff for the amazing service and the food was fantastic. I ordered the 3 meat kebab and it was honestly one of the best kebabs I’ve ever eaten. Will definitely return. I was part of the group with the poor comments below and 100% disagree with their views.

I was also a part of the party that has been complained about below, and do not agree with the statements being made what so ever. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was wonderful, they catered for a large party very well and the foot all came put fresh and very quickly considering the size of party. The staff were all polite and wonderful and dealt with us very well. Also, they were very considerate of the birthday girl having a daily intolerance and catered to this. Thank you for a wonderful evening x
