The George and Dragon in North West Leicestershire

Not been here for years we had a lovely lunch . Pate was great . My husband had the steak and ale pie full of meat . I had fajita and Chocolate brownie all was very enjoyable . Customer service by michelle was excellent all in all excellent experience .

We had a great meal today at this lovely countryside pub, great choice on the menu especially as 3 of us are vegetarians. The food arrived promptly and we were very impressed and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend for food or just drinks

The staff were very rude - as they handed us drinks, it spilled all over us and they gave people the wrong drinks. They even gave an 11-year old a vodka and told her it was water, and gave a person who doesn’t drink vodka and told them it was coke. They seemed extremely unenthusiastic and missed out drinks from orders multiple times. The pizzas were also undercooked and had a sickly amount of cheese, and as the family came home they felt quite unwell and uncomfortable. Would not recommend for a family meal as your orders will be messed up a frustrating amount.

Had a family lunch for my husbands retirement. The food the drinks where gorgeous and can't recommend enough. But the icing on the cake was the staff. Really helpful and friendly and couldn't have made you more welcome. Well done everyone.

Good food and great facilities for the kids. Bar and service staff were friendly and efficient… shame they were let down by who I believe is the manager/landlord? Exceptionally rude when we asked for clarification on the bill. Argumentative, arrogant and highly unprofessional. Judging by other negative reviews, I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves an equally arrogant and rude response to this review. He caused a scene in the bar and made us feel very uncomfortable because we asked if it was right that a shandy was the same price as a pint of beer on our bill. Ruined an otherwise lovely meal with family and friends.

Lovely steak meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary dogs welcome too which is a defo plus this time of year. Steaks cooked to perfection lovely sides and salad, stilton sauce extremely good and the beer battered onion rings were to die for. Staff are so welcoming and friendly just can't do enough for you.

Ww’ve been several times over the last two years and enjoyed consistently fabulous food, atmosphere & service. The Sunday roasts are superb, Landlady and waitresses very friendly. Highly recommend.

My husband and myself popped in for a drink while our caravan was being repaired we opted for a kebab quissdilla, my husband can't have cheese so we asked if they did it without and they said of course it came and it was absolutely amazing, the staff are so friendly and helpful you couldn't ask for more we give it 10 stars.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast. I had the large breakfast which had everything on it. My friends had the medium breakfast which was equally quite big. The quality of the food was amazing! Will definitely return on a Friday for a full English again. Well done!

We arrived after trying to find somehwere to book for 10 of us 4 adults 6 kids, they were more than accommodating, the food was amazing, kids portions were really big.! Us adults had a roast dinner that was just as good. Big portion too....

We had a takeaway today a Sunday dinner and pudding ,delivered . It arrived spot on time ,it was very well presented looked lovely, very good size portion ,it was very very nice ,couldn't fault it thankyou do very much would recommend

Booked a table for the “eat out to help out” meal. We arrived at 5.45pm and were taken to our table and ordered drinks. Then the waiting started. After we had ordered, it took 45mins for the starter to arrive. The food was delicious. Then, another hour’s wait for our mains. By this time everyone was complaining and several walked out. No explanations, just the waiting staff going round apologising. We were offered a drink on the House, then (eventually) our dessert arrived. We final left the place at 8.50pm, over three house since arriving. Food great, but if they don’t sort out the food delivery it will get the place a very name.

Not as good as it usually is, I had cheese and veg tart (the tart was burnt) My partner had gluten free fish and chips great large portion but the fish tasted bland. The menu seems more basic than usual.The service was good the staff were attentive and wearing masks, social distancing was observed. I had booked online but it was not in the book we had to wait for a table but luckily not for too long. Maybe best to call to book or to checking your booking before arriving.

I'm currently here and whilst I am all for places opening, social distancing is not being observed I have been trying to have a nice meal whilst a table of 7 was in such close proximity, this made me uneasy so will not be back. Whilst the floor is marked out and screens are up this is not what I expected or accept in the current climate.

Great to sit out in the garden made very welcome in these difficult times. Delicious food nicely cooked shame drinks are expensive but overall well worth a visit and Brilliantly able to social distance in the well maintained garden.

Lovely delivery from the George and Dragon ! Food was hot when it got to my house and quality was spot on. I was amazed with the portions as well. All really good and tasty.

Met with friends before the Christmas break and we were well taken care of !Food was great, they accommodate if you don’t want certain ingredients on your pizza for example, which is great when pubs are so open and kind.Also nachos are well made (in layers!! So you have salsa and cheese everywhere!!)Will return with or without friends!

Tried the steak & stilton pie for lunch. A proper pie! Encased in pastry, tender meat, gooey stilton, perfect chips... Oof, I can't move cos I simply couldn't leave any!

We ordered at 5.20 and when it was getting on for 6.00 the waitress told us the sea bass had fallen apart in the pan. My wife whose birthday it was, had her meal when everybody had finished their meal. Not good. (Had to choose something else.)We did get a free round of drinks but unfortunately that didn't make up for a spoiled evening.

We went on a Tuesday which is pie night with a variety of different fillings cooked fresh to order. I chose the chicken bacon and leek and asked for stilton to be added too which was no problem and my daughter had the steak and ale. You could choose either chips or mash and garden, mushy peas or beans. There was also lots of tasty homemade gravy served in a jug. The pie was delicious with perfect pastry and it looked great on the plate. Staff were polite and couldn't do enough making sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be visiting again and will try the Pizza night on a Monday too.

Can’t fault this place at all! Food is excellent (pizza and pie from our experience was great!) The staff are very friendly too.

Early evening dinner with a choice of 3 menus, specials, early bird and full menu.We all chose from their full menu. Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. It was 6pm, there were several other diners and people who had called in just for a drink. Really nice ambience/atmosphere. Connor was our main server and was a delight.

Came for dinner with family for a meal, as soon as we walked to the bar we were asked if we are dining and taken to our table, drinks orders all done at the table which is good. I decided to have one of the dishes from the Specials... Spiced Halloumi, and it was great! Fresh crisp salad served with it and lovely chunky chips, my Wife had the leg of Chicken Special, she said it was also very nice. Service at our table was good and attentive throughout. I like how the children’s menus have colouring in and games on them! we will definitely be trying again! We stayed for drinks afterwards in the Bar area, which meant we didn’t have to move on to a pub after the meal! Thanks everyone !

Visited for dinner on 16th November. Staff friendly ,atmosphere a little too load due to football team. Food below average. Waiter asked if everything ok , when I said the chicken tandoori was a little watery he just shrugged his shoulders. Please management if you are TRULY interested in what people think then get your people to ACT on the feedback. We won’t visit again.

Went to the fireworks display last night. Best display I’ve seen, maybe ever. Nearly 40 mins of constant, multiple large display fireworks. The sky was lit up and I was most impressed. It was on another level to most pub displays. Beer tasted good too!

We love this zany friendly pub anyway as it is our local but yesterday they really pulled out all the stops in providing us with an amazing meal for our wedding breakfast. The starter of home made tomato and basil soup was excellent. Followed by a roast dinner which was tipping off the plate it was huge, the choice of puddings were mouthwatering and all topped off with a nice cup of coffee. The children were catered for with the usual kiddie favourites and everyone commented on how lovely the food was. Compliments to the chef.

We usually eat out Saturday nights and thought about trying the G&D; so booked in advance, We arrived early and was promptly shown to our table. The decor is clean and well kept with the indoor dining area felling cosy. The menu is wide ranging and has the usual pub grub you would expect. We ordered the specials, pie and curry, which arrived well presented. We both agreed the food was really well cooked, tasty and the portion size was just right for us. Sweet next and again served very well presented and very tasty. All in all a good night out, very friendly staff and look forward to returning in future.

Had high hopes as when we’ve driven past the car park was usually busy. “Home made kebab” was very dry and overcooked. Fajitas were a bit odd and tasted like they’d just been cooked in sweet chilli sauce? Coffee (cappuccino) not nice

Booked a table for a birthday meal. Invited all the family and were really looking forward to a nice evening. Arrived to be told, despite booking, the restaurant was closed and we have to sit in the packed bar full of loud blokes swearing and shouting. Ordered drinks, coke for me, 2 gin and tonics. Came as 2 pints of beer and tried mine which had alcohol in. a tia maria and coke.(i cant drink, im pregnant) we got that corrected, went to order and they reeled off a list of what they didnt have, meals re ordered, one arrived with mould on one of the fajitas, another stone cold, and burger very tough. Expected puddings to be of reasonable size as were nearly 6.00 each. Eton mess consisted of about 3 strawberries sliced up and a tiny bit of meringue , hot fudge cake barely a sliver. The evening was terrible and expensive. Do not waste your time.

Having been to the George quite a few times and had amazing well cooked, well presented food it was our favourite place to eat. Last time the beef was not good I had to send mine back, the wait had been a while too. However my meat was swiftly changed to Pork and was good. Hopefully this was a one off, we would still recommend this pub, also has lots of outside space for kids .

This place does the most amazing pies! We've never had a bad meal there, its always great. The rest of the menu doesn't disappoint either, great homemade pizzas etc. The portion sizes are always big enough to fill us up, so much so that most of the time we cant manage a dessert, and that saying something as we both have a massive sweet tooth

Our family thought we'd make an unplanned stop for a late lunch mid-week, and we were glad we did. It's a very welcoming pub, with plenty of parking and a lovely outside seating area. We sat inside and found a table immediately, easily big enough for the 6 of us. Service was quick and friendly, and the food was delicious......massive portions !!!! Would definitely visit there again.

Stopped here yesterday for an impromptu lunch and shared steak and Stilton pizza, and goats cheese pizza with my partner. The waitress said there were no mushrooms which were on the steak and Stilton, so we asked for onion instead. Both were delicious. Service by the young lady who was also serving at the bar was friendly, prompt and efficient.

Myself, my Mother and my Brother and his Girlfriend went down there and ordered from the “Beer Garden Menu”.... Plenty of choice and had gluten free options... we had the Margherita Pizza, Steak & Stilton Salad and Ham & Cheese baguette, all came with fries... we waited about 15 minutes and our food came out hot and gorgeous.... I Highly recommend The George & Dragon... keep up the good work

As ever the service and meals at The George and Dragon were very good. We'd reserved a table it being Sunday but none of us chose to have the Sunday Roast. We like that the full menu is available. My daughter had the American Platter - I'm not sure what it said on the menu - but it would've been enough for two of us!! My husband enjoyed a nice pint of Timothy Taylor desserts and I'm saving dessert till next time ☺

Eight adults and two children were at this meal. Lots of choices. Two courses 14.95 three courses 19.95. large portions. We had a 12 o'clock sitting there was also a 3 o'clock sitting. Very large car park and a small animal farm. Outdoor seating. Good selection of drinks.

You don't want sweets. Then go and stand in the bar. We want your table. Half an hour before we should have been disturbed. (A two hour slot) Spent £114. Left feeling very angry.

Visited in December for an annual get together with friends, the pub was busy but expected for the time of year. Great singer on in the bar area which gave the place a nice festive atmosphere along with the decorations.

I was looking forward to a good roast and had heard this was the place to go. The food certainly looked the part but some of the elements let it down. The beef was quite tough, too chewy to enjoy. Also too rare for me, I should have asked how it was served. Some of the vegetables were a little under cooked but at least the carrots were good. So not the best roast after all. I did like the the atmosphere and the decor in the pub and the service was good so I’d be happy to eat here again but just choose something else.

Family birthday meal out for six of us. It was very busy, which helped the atmosphere no end.

We had a 30th birthday party at the George and Dragon there were 20 of us in attendance quite a large gathering but I have to say the staff were superb the meals arrived all together the food was good and a great evening was had by one and all.

Walked through the door and this kind young gentleman opened the door for my nana and us. Was automatically impressed. A waitress showed us to our table and we were quickly welcomed with the menus! I had the best cooked rump stake of my life and the family and i were very impressed with the quality of the food!! Our desserts were quickly served and were also incredibly delicious. They welcomed us back on the way out and we were very impressed with the service! I will be coming again!!

Fantastic value midweek 3 course for just 8.95 each. Will be back can honestly say some of the finest food I’ve ever had out.

Very very sorry to say that this was one of THE worst meals I’ve had the misfortune to order and with great reluctance have to pay good money for. Food tasted so salty that it was not possible for me to eat and upon explaining this to the waitress I got a ‘sorry love’ and she walked off with the plate, such a poor response (really wasn’t at all bothered that we’d had a bad experience so obviously doesn’t need more customers) has warranted a review as I’d hate anyone to suffer the dissatisfaction and disappointment I’ve just experienced. Go to the Gelsmoor instead for great food and service.

I've passed this pub loads going from Ashby to Loughborough. Today I had time to stop off for a quick drink and snack.

After 3 of our party choosing ploughman’s at a hefty £12 p/p we were expecting great things , sadly not so . The lettuce was stuck to the plates, slimy and brown and totally uneatable. We mentioned it when waitress cans to collect plates and were told”ok I will mention it” we heard no more . How hard can it be to get lettuce right! Sorry unfortunately we will not be back.

Had a very pleasant evening here, there was a good atmosphere. The food was nice and the staff very friendly and accommodating we will be returning.

Had my retirement party at the George and Dragon on a lovely warm Sunday afternoon.

This was my first time visiting and to put it simply i wouldn't go again. Things got worse. Firstly, the bar staff were eating whilst serving customers which is unprofessional and rather rude. Secondly, the bar was covered in dirty glasses,bottles and napkins for the time we was there. Not something you want to look at when your sitting down to eat. Finally, then when the food came, the first chip my friend picked up on her fork had a long straggly hair hanging round it. Absolutely disgusting. Won't be returning.

Was passing by and saw the bouncy castles so stopped for a drink with the kids, beer garden was very busy as was the bar but we still had a lovely drink in the sun. While we were there we all shared a pizza and chips which was quick out and tasted amazing.

Live locally and have now been here a lot of times for food and just drinks either with the Mrs or friends.

Left today feeling really sad. I'm vegan, so I accept menu choice is limited and was happy to see a vegan pie. When I opened it up a beefy looking thing was amongst the pie, stringy and a bit sort of fatty. I asked my partner to taste it and he said, beefy. The waitress said the pies were bought in so would ask and it came back with confirmation from the chef it was the texture of the mushroom. Unfortunately I didn't trust it at that point especially as it wasn't cooked onsite. Instead of saying they completely saw it looked like meat I was told it was mushroom and despite eating none of it and it was taken away, I had to pay almost £11 for it. My partner had almost finished before I was asked if I'd like anything else. Worked in catering for years and know it wouldn't have hurt to comp the bought in pie but for £11 you've lost me for good. His fish was served on a paper that became soggy and ripped. Bad experience.

If you are looking for a nice pub to enjoy a drink with the other half whilst your kids play this place is great. Outside in the beer garden the kids love the bouncy castles and the ducks and chickens etc. Well worth a visit

Fantastic breakfast as usual, a great way to start the day. Brilliant staff in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended! They also provide a tasty vegetarian option.

Me and my partner visited for breakfast after some really good reviews, we walked in and were seated straight away and drinks order taken tea and a soda we looked at the menu and order the biggest breakfast they did as we were both starving! It's took a while to come but It was huge we couldn't believe it was all hot and plenty of it! After a few mouthfuls we were both desperate for a drink but there weren't any staff around, we caught the attention of someone and asked for two teas, after waiting about 15 minutes and through a staff change they didn't arrive I asked a young girl who has just started if we could have two teas she went off to get them and bought them over, both the cups appeared to be dusty but we cleaned them out after look what was floating in and on top of the milk I suggested to my other half that we just paid and left! I have attached a picture! Not sure what they were in the milk! We also got charged for three teas even though it said unlimited tea and coffee with a breakfast?! So would have expected to pay for 2 teas not three!

We were scouting for a place for Sunday dinner and we were not disappointed! We turned up without a booking and got a table straight the way. I went for Roast Beef and my partner was tempted with the Chip Shop Platter and how he managed to finish it I don’t know! When the platter was brought out the whole room went silent followed with a lot of ‘oh wow that looks fantastic’ to which it was. Food served very quickly, waitresses very attentive and atmosphere was spot on. Have already booked in for another meal!

Table booked for a family meal - the majority of us had the Sunday Lunch option. Overall really disappointing - meat a little tough, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding had obviously been sitting around for a few hours, vegetables (carrots, cubed swede & shredded cabbage) watery and tasteless gravy. Not a good experience. We did convey our comments to the Manager who was seemingly uninterested.

Just literally come back from having a meal here and I am sorry to say it was the worst meal ever. I think it may be because we were booked in at 6.30pm and we ended up with the days leftovers reheated. We were a party of nine and we had pre booked the meal as we had previously had breakfast a few weeks ago which was very nice, but the sunday lunch just eaten was barely warm, the 'Seasonal vegetables were a joke - cabbage and carrots in one bowl and carrots and swede in another!! The baked potatoes were old and like leather on the outside and the Yorkshire puddings were llike very thin cardboard. My partners fish n chips were luke warm. I paid 13.95 for roast lamb- expensive microwaved food. Disgusting. What really pissed me off is the waitress asked if every thing was okay, so I politely informed her it was not and our whole party very politely informed her of our individual complaints and off she went. We also went down there for the pub quiz, however we were in a room away from the bar and generally forgotten about, we then heard the quiz master ask the first question, which was annoying as the staff did not even have the courtesy to let us know or even ask us if we wanted to take part. We did want to of course, did but it was too late by this time. When paying the bill we were asked again if everything was okay, so my partner told her NO and said that we were waiting for the manager to come down and speak to us. He came and to be honest was a bit of a wet blanket and stood there and looked as if he was gorming out!!

Had to ask for more vegetables as there was 4 of us and given small dish for us to share.Roast lamb was average nothing special for the price and beef was tough. Just an average lunch nothing special. Seems a bit bizarre all the different paintings grouped together and being up for sale with price tags
