PAYA Cuisine (Highgate) in Haringey

Missing items, sub-standard food not as pictured or described on the menu and heavily overpriced for the quality. Very unsatisfied.

Big portion but the sweet and sour chicken sauce was unfortunately lacking - watery and bland. £7.95.

We’ve been using this Chinese takeaway for the past 2 years and they are awesome. The food is great and super tasty and delivery is so so quick. The crispy seaweed and Crispy Shredded Szechuan Beef are our favourites from here.

I’ll admit that I should have ceased eating from this establishment, due to previous orders being incorrect and the terrible service you get when calling to place an order. I tried to place an order, and was querying the dish because the gentleman asked me what is was although it was listed on the menu. All I’m going to say is I didn’t bother ordering, I went else where where the customer service, and food is of a high standard.

Placed an order and it got cancelled saying was closed but everywhere says its open.....

This is a take away review. Overall I'd rate this just above horrible looked better than it was. Vegetable spring rolls were all pastry and very little minced Vegetables. The mains were a real waste of money .All the veg mainly onion upon onion on the raw side of al dente who wants that in your Chinese? The fried rice tasted like it was fried in really old oil ...yuk. Best avoid this place it's a 2* all day long .

The Singapore noodles are really good, so giving 5 stars just for those.

AVOID. I’ve always tried to support PAYA as there aren’t many offerings like it in-and around highgate/archway… but this was the nail in the coffin. Totally inedible. For starters we had pork buns in which you could taste the uncooked dough and the bottoms of which were cold( indicative of a microwave). We got what looked like a carcass than a quarter duck, hardly any meat and tasteless. The chicken wings used to be a staple of theirs and a large reason as to why I would persist and order again…however these failed to impress and they have changed something I’m sure. Chow mein ridiculously oily. Even the banana fritters had undercooked batter and not even the golden syrup doused over them could redeem the situation. We were left with an awful queasy feeling and I hope there are no consequences for me tomorrow morning…

I ordered in December 2022. Really happy with the food, good portions, and gave a positive feedback. I ordered exactly the same again in January 2023. It was £5 more expensive. The duck was half the size and tasted mainly of salt. The spare ribs were fatty and the little meat on it was like rubber, the sauce was disgusting, layered with onion. Seaweed was half the portion. So disappointed. I will not be ordering again.

Staff were insulting. Food just about edible but poor quality. The battered fish was undercooked and the tofu overcooked. The prawn noodles had only 4 prawns in it. Neither dish had any vegetables in as stated in menu. Only used as other take always were shut. Very expensive rubbish for £18. Will not return.

I ordered for the very first time and won't be ordering again ! I got a Pad Thai which didn't really taste much like a pad Thai and was swimming in the sauce, the noodles were overcooked and soggy. Dim sun's nice however overpriced !!! 5 x dim sum £7.95 I ended up paying almost £16 for the meal and did not enjoy it one bit (I only ate it because I was hungry) I do not recommend ordering from this place !

Sent meat instead of vegetarian food and said I was lying even though I was sending photographs. Said my only option was to go down there and bring it back in, they wouldn’t offer a replacement.

Delicious lobster with ginger and spring onions. Owner was very friendly gave us a free bottle of coke

Had some delicious chow mein and egg foo young the other night! Great price for what you get.

A new favourite! My colleagues and I first ordered from here only this month and have since ordered food twice more. Collectively we have sampled and savoured a range of dishes: curries, stir fries, noodles and spicy rice. Each dish left everyone with much to rave about and wanting more. The takeaway portions are very generous. If you really like heat then I recommend the Malaysian stir fry. If a mild dish is more your thing then the Massaman curry and chow mein may be to your liking.

I seldom complain but felt compelled to. I ordered on Deliveroo and it was 45 minutes late. Further, this food has made me extremely sick; I have had food poisoning once in my life previously and it was nothing compared to the cramps, aches and excavation of fluids I’m now experiencing. I have had to take time off work and no one is taking responsibility from Paya. If I could swear, I would. It’s an absolute disgrace and I can’t remember a time feeling so terrible. The positive reviews ARE fabricated. They are either from “ghost accounts” or simply pasted. I imagine this is from their employees. Never again. Please don’t go here; there are so many better quality and better priced options.

I rang and confirmed before ordering that the food would be gluten free, it arrived and was covered in soya sauce which contains gluten, so I could not eat any of it! and after contacting them about this I have heard nothing. Appalling

I haven't ordered from this restaurant but won't because clearly the 5* reviews on here are fake. Also its weird that they are flyering my area which is miles away from Highgate. I live in West Finchley. They seem to be running out of areas to sell to because their reputation is that bad. Some of the reviews on here are copy pasted and its the same text under different names. I am very suspicious. I resent the fact that a restaurant treats its customers like this. Beware Paya you won't get away with it. If you are that desperate to write fake reviews then that is warning enough.

I’ve tried many Chinese food in different locations in London, but this one was absolutely Wow!!! delivered so quick, amazing taste, great customer service and beyond of that,reasonable price. THANKS PAYA HIGHGATE 🙏

The Wontons are categorically not Wontons. They were deep fried filo pastry with little filling. The sauce they came with was illuminous red, sweet and really not very nice. Dumplings were reasonable, but burnt on one side. Salt and pepper squid was ridiculously salty. I love salt, but not like that. Service was good. I will give them one more go, everyone has a bad night, my wife is not so forgiving.

Nice little Thai takeaway -well deserved it's place on area market by providing good service over quite a number of years

ordered delivery that was late in 30 minutes after they argued with me about my address, to the point they said they will be happy if I never order again. than I had to stand outside in the cold because he couldn't find the building. the food was not crispy nor amazing taste. prices are not cheap. very disappointed. wouldn't bother.

I think Paya is wonderful. The food is always fresh and hot, portions generous and good value for money. I’ve been ordered from them for about 7 years and have never had a bad meal. I wouldn’t order from anywhere else.

Still can't get past the Crispy Duck and Pancakes, half a Duck and a half bottle or Rice Wine from next doors Japanese restaurant go perfectly together.

I have been Ordering Chinese Traditional Food from Paya-Archway since 2017 and regularly order from them three to four times per month. Honestly, this Chinese restaurant is one of the best amongst the competitors and highly recommend this Chinese shop to Chinese Food Lovers.. Their staffs are well behaved, polite and punctual and always get my food warm enough to eat. Thanks guys..

I found a METAL SCREW in my noodles. Found it in my mouth!!!! The most shocking food + hygiene. Avoid this place!!

Duck is dry and overcooked and they forgot the pancakes. The rest was okay.

They accepted my order online, but they cancelled it later. They didn't give me any explanation, just sent me a generic email saying that my order has been rejected. I waited for that delivery for one hour. No apology, no explanation, no compensation. I tried to call but nobody answer the phone. I tried to send an email, but it was rejected. Awful experience.

Ordered take away through Deliveroo. I think it must be the poorest take away we've had. Crab and sweetcorn soup over sweet; Peking duck sauce watery; Red Thai Curry, very few prawns, watery sauce and very strange colour, flavour and consistency. It also was certainly not cheap. I don't often write a bad review, but it really disappoints me that food of this standard is sent out.

Very disappointed with what the chef considers to be good food. Order fillet steak and got the toughest dried steak with the container filled with mostly onions and sauce. That was def not fillet steak. The crab was overfried and oily and the rice was very hard. Been a customer here for almost 9 years and when I rang to complain I was told the chef said the order was correct but they can give me 20% off my next order. Who cares about an order that will never be placed when the current order is disgusting! Never again! The Oak Chinese is wayyyyy better.

I can’t believe that taste and quality

Quality of the food has dropped severely. Ordered Pad Kee Mao and it was revolting, Beef was fatty and tasted off, noodles smelt like they'd been sitting around and were disgusting. When I called up to complain the man on the phone accused me of calling them before and complaining, i've never called them up before. He was rude, aggressive and bordering on delusional. Avoid this place like the plague.

It's such a shame but Paya has really changed since it opened many years ago. The quality of the food has plummeted.

This is my favourite place for delivery- in fact, it's the only place I trust ordering from. The food is so delicious and fresh, and it arrives quickly. The offer very substantial portions for a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend the hot and sour soup- it's the best I've ever had. If you are not a huge meet fan, the vegetarian mock duck is fantastic (I'm not a vegetarian, but it's too good to resist).

One word to sum up this takeaway experience...disappointing. Food was bland, boring and overpriced. Never order from this company again.

Worst chinese ive had....... tried to feed it to my dog but he wasn't having non of it!

I ordered Thai & it was the worst Thai food i had.

Terrible place. Delivery was late and when the food arrived it is cold. We ordered a drink and the driver didn't have it and had to run to the shop. Food was missing from the order and when calling the place to tell them we were accused of lying (driver was also eating when he eventually arrived). Absolute let down - didnt even want to eat when it arrived DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!!

Awful!! Do not buy from here!! Was an hour and a half late and arrived cold and without the drinks. However the cherry on top was when I opened my crispy chicken balls to see 3 small nugs rattling round. Alarm bells should've sounded when the delivery man rang my ball chewing his jaw off. I called the restaurant to ask how many chicken balls there is normally and he said 8. My spider senses were tingling. I said there were only 3 and he said that was simply not possible. Mountains would fall into the sea before a dish left the kitchen with only 3 chicken balls he said. I asked for a refund on the dish and he accused me of lying to him! Aye mate, it's the great chicken ball swindle of 2017. What a goon. 1 star. Crispy Szechuan was alright doe.

If you want to order takeaway-simply don't do it !!! Ordered takeaway food that never came. They said delivery time 50min and when I called after 1h waiting, they said I need to wait for another 30min so I cancelled the order! While I was on the phone with the restaurant, the guy put me on hold and I was able to hear him apologizing and saying to other customers that their orders will be late too !

Got a delivery from here after moving to Highgate the chips and chicken balls were hard recooked would never use this place again and exspensive for rubbish food !!

inedible. takeaway arrived alarmingly quickly. they could not have cooked the food and delivered it in the time taken. the rice was dry and over cooked. the chicken balls smelled of burnt oil. the crispy noodles were so crispy they just crumbled when you touched them. the pak choi was slimy. the prawn toasts were burnt (and bizarrely had cheese on them!). even the prawn crackers were bad. all dishes were thrown away un eaten, like the money I wasted on them. they should be ashamed of themselves for producing this. don't order here is my strong advice.

Would not order here simply for the fact that they got my mobile number from somewhere and keep pestering me with messages even though I requested for them to not contact me again. Not the sort of company I will give my money to.

Very poor quality of food. Food arrived too quick hence one questions the freshness. I ordered a Thai green curry. I have made better green curry in my kitchen. It was vile. After a couple spoonfuls I chucked the whole lot in the bin. NEVER ordering from here again. Waste of money .disappointed

VILE and OVERPRICED. All food so salty it tasted the same. Delivery fee of £1.50 even though a few minutes walk away. All inedible, everything ended up in the bin. Hopefully you'll all read the reviews, un,I keep I did, before avoiding this place.

Their hot and sour soup is pretty awesome. Seaweed and crackers too. Pity they charge for delivery or we'd order all the time

The worst takeaway I have ever had. Service was good but the food was so terrible! Words cannot describe. Couldn't eat it.

We order online and we received very quickly. We tried the meal balls with sweet sauce and was the worst that I've never tasted. For another hand the rice with curry was not bad.

We ordered three meals, sweet and sour and Chinese curry king prawn, and squid in xo sauce, and all three were lovely, no complaints at all, and delivery driver was great. Not cheap but standard price for a 'branded' takeaway, would order again definitely.

Came much faster than expected but food was a major disappointment. The lotus seed buns were so hard I couldn't even sink my teeth into them. All three had to go straight into the bin. Never again!

Terrible Thai food, It was bland at best and not made with the right ingredients. A Tesco ready meal would be more authentic and cost a less than half the price. avoid this restaurant.

Their flyer distributor walked passed me when I told him he is not allowed access to our mailboxes. There are signs that say so. He was distributing the flyers as I was telling him to leave. I had to get the building manager to chase away. This review will remain here until they respect our mailboxes.

Words fail me on this place – it’s horrendous…! Avoid at all costs. Usually okay at best, recently called to order and they refused my service initially as ‘it was raining and I needed to order more than six items.’ I refused and went elsewhere but they had the cheek to call me back 10 minutes later to say they’d take my order if I wanted…!!! Unbelievable…they wrote to me on Twitter to say they were dealing with it….nothing back. I’ve heard similar stories elsewhere and their Hygiene is also questionable. I’m led to believe they’re currently under investigation from local authorities for vermin control issues….just stay well clear – plenty of other great options nearby.

Used to be the best Thai take-away in town - and their Tom Yum soup was reason enough to order every week because it was excellent!! But... they have since changed the recipe and is now about as tasty as a bowl of hot water... not to mention if you pay by card they make you read your card details into the deliver driver's mobile - really secure, guys... not to mention very professional - I'm guessing I will have to find another place to get my thai...

Service was good, shame I can't say the same about the food. I can't understand were did people in this country forgot their sense of taste... Bad food and very pricey.
