Best sandwich shop in London with the friendliest staff!

Good local find and worth the queue, which moves fast. Infinitely better than chain options. Coronation chicken seems a staple and was great.

We came here at noon on a weekday. The store was busy with customers constantly coming in for takeaway sandwiches. The inside of the store was lined with jams and other foods, and it was a classic and wonderful space that I like. Sandwiches are purchased through face-to-face sales. We ordered sandwiches while looking at the ingredients in the glass case, but we were so inexperienced that we couldn't decide quickly or speak smoothly, making us very nervous. However, the staff did not rush us, calmly listened to our order, confirmed any missing information, and completed a delicious-looking sandwich. We were both happy and relieved. Not only the skill with which they make the sandwiches, but even the high-speed movement in which they wrap them in paper is a masterpiece of long-established craftsmanship, and you'll be amazed. The sandwiches I received after returning home were each distinctly different in taste, unique, and very delicious. I thought it might be too big for us, but everyone ate it up in no time. It was a little crowded this time, so I was disappointed that I couldn't see much of the food and miscellaneous goods in the store. Next time, I would like to take a closer look at the interior while eating other sandwiches inside the store.

Honestly had one of the best sandwiches of my life here. Go for the pastrami and Swiss! There was a bit of a line, but I was able to get a seat inside as a solo diner. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in London!

I had a pastrami sandwich. The ingredients are plentiful, the mustard is strong, and the bread is not dry and delicious! I'm happy with this price in London. Very satisfied with the cost performance. I haven't been to the store since I had someone come and buy it for me.

Hell of a queue builds up here. One of those rare fashionable sarnie shops. Prices actually very reasonable. I had the salted beef ciabatta roll with a coke for just £8 and it tasted worthy of this place’s reputation. Very kitschy window displays that attract local office workers and tourists alike. Service was quick but if the queue is bad, expect a wait.

I am a sucker for local shops. I stumbled upon this place during a hungry afternoon and I had the most delicious chicken salad! I was so happy with it my feet were dancing.

I am surprised by some reviews which are below 4 for this place. It has amazing food ( I ordered pastrami and grilled cheese). The place is authentic, workers are so cooperative and polite, people will always be in line and place is busy. I highly recommend it, must try, great varieties

Really lovely delicatessen! Small queue on a Saturday lunchtime but worth it. So many options to choose from - I went for cheddar with red onions and chutney toasted, and my partner had pastrami, emmental and pickles. Both were delicious and great value. We also got a scotch egg with mustard which was yum! The employees were smiley and helpful too. Would definitely recommend and come back.

To be honest, I only want to try this deli to find out if the Que that I see every day is justified and Sadly it wasn’t . Not great also not bad. I had an egg mayonnaise, bacon with cheese sandwich at a grand total of £8. For the location it’s pretty reasonably priced. if you’re coming out of town, It’s definitely worth the visit to add it you instagram collection. It’s a beautiful preserved shop, like a moment in time frozen and well kept. A nostalgic view of London glory days befor it was replaced with Starbucks and Pret. If you’re local, don’t bother to Que! Your lunchtime is better spent resting then getting moody waiting for food. Over all experience was meh, amazing atmosphere but mediocre food.

There was a queue when I went to this sandwich shop and I didn’t know it was that famous. Everyone was there to get a soup and sandwich and it reminded me of a sandwich shop o visited in Belgium. The interiors are very vintage and the jam jar wall is pleasing to the eyes. I got the coronation chicken sandwich in brown bread. Creamy and mild curry flavour of the sandwich is complimented by sweet raisins. I’d definitely go back to try others.

London's most authentic kosher deli serving up sandwiches that will satisfy. Staff are super friendly and happy to answer any questions you might have. Best of all sandwiches are made fresh to order right at the counter with effortless expertise. I went for the pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and mayo on brown bread toasted. Super delicious.

Excellent old school place - had that London charm. The sandwich fillings are delicious. Both the granary bread and white bread were yummy and fresh. I tried coronation chicken and the seafood cocktail mix - both were super good. Already plotting my next visit back to try the pastrami and other flavours. The place is also super small and cute - the staff are also very sweet and nice.

Alright drop whatever you're eating and head to this place before it's 4pm and this shop is closed. I'm a stranger on the internet but trust me, just go to this place. You can't go wrong with any of their choices. One of my favorite food experiences in London!

Visit Paul Rothe & Son, a quaint deli that has been family-run since 1900. There's a reason for the massive lunchtime queues: their sandwiches are renowned. Disregard boring chain offerings. A cheese lover's dream come true as white-coated personnel mix up an incredible assortment of fillings, ranging from traditional salt beef to creamy tuna mayo. With its vintage formica tables, caff-style chairs, and jam-filled shelves, these spaces transport you back in time. A feast for the eyes and senses! Paul Rothe & Son is a London institution, much more than just a deli. Strongly advised!

Small, unusual place, where you can eat an unimaginable number of very good homemade sandwiches, on site. The staff is pleasant. The place being small and popular, try to go there at less common times to hope to get a place.

Excellent deli-style sandwich place with lots of fillings. The homemade smoked mackerel paste was absolutely delicious. They have a great range of sauces, mustards, pastes and spreads from all over the world for sale. The diner-style tables were really charming.

Came upon this cafe/deli quite by chance. Delightful. Lovely homemade soup and an excellent range of sandwiches. Can either sit down or take away. 'Old school' in the very best way.

Really good, definitely not the best sandwiches I've had in London but a cool deli that reminds me of a Jewish deli in NYC.

Have walked passed several times and always looked in the window. Finally went in today. Est 1900 and still going strong. Not surprised the sandwiches are fabulous. Highly recommend the fabulous soup and pastrami sandwich, all tasty

Very cool deli in Marlyebone, reminiscent of old school Jewish delis in New York like Barney Greengrass. I had the pastrami, mustard, Swiss cheese and pickle sandwich which, to be frank, was better than most pastrami sandwiches I’ve had in New York (and also about 20% cheaper). It’s tiny, but if you can get a seat, do it - it’s got a lively atmosphere. Great spot to read a chapter of a book while you eat (if you have the time).

Cheap bread bought from a supermarket, overpriced sandwiches. You're better off doing a supermarket sandwich deal at least you get what you pay for with those... £17 for 2 sandwiches you expect a bit of substance. I ordered pastrami and a hot frankfurter, the franks were those cheap nasty £1 from a jar types and slathered with too much sauerkraut and I couldn't taste the pastrami on account of the amount of mustard in it all in all this place left a bad taste in my mouth(pun intended) and I won't be giving them a second chance...

You really can’t go wrong here - it’s a great place for a sandwich or jacket potato. I’ve always been lucky and found a seat, even at lunchtime but you do have to join the queue and order before taking a seat. The coronation chicken is absolutely amazing - I keep wanting to try one of the other fabulous array of fillings they offer but just can’t resist it every time!

Love this place, but what a shame they have cut their hours so drastically. I was going to pop in on Saturday but it would appear that they are closed😔

I came in with my wife and a friend who had never been before. We were very lucky to get a table at lunchtime. We shared a pastrami and cheese and a corned beef bap. Both were freshly made and well filled. It isn't the cheapest place but the quality is excellent and the atmosphere is unique.

Great sandwich bar with good portions and good hot drinks. A hint of nostalgia in the interior and decor completes a lovely atmosphere. And the food is a good price.

One of a few establishments in London that is evidently owner operated. Friendly, efficient, clean and good quality food - rare in London. They were still accommodating customers at 4pm when it was closing time.

Top notch coronation sandwich and a ‘proper’ cup of tea. Apologies for the bite mark in the pic - I couldn’t wait! Everyone is super cheery and helpful. Who needs Pret when you have Paul and Stephen Rothe making your sandwiches.

Visiting Marylebone we were looking for somewhere to lunch. In a side street we found a lineup of people standing outside a deli. That generally means good food available! Joining the line, we made our way in a few short minutes into the deli where we were able to find some spare seats. Our lunch soup and macchiato coffee orders were taken and quickly arrived. Just a pleasure to find good food with friendly service with a smile. We will be back on our next visit to London.

Aww this place.. I loved. Family run since 1900, friendly staff. Very cute autumny decor with an incredible variety of sandwich fillings to choose from, I couldn’t believe how much choice. I went for coronation chicken which was amazing. Around £6.50 for the quality and the area, is alright. Would definitely return to try some different kinds and hopefully also soup. There is seating inside but seems to get very busy, with a queue outside too but doesn’t seem to take too long to get down.

Best Chicken bacon sandwich in England

I wanted to take a nice hot soup and just found them. Tbh I am tired of recent cheap chains. So I really loved the original atmosphere. The beef stew was really tasty and the toast with juicy butter was very good. I've been living in London for 1 year, but it was definitely the best food I have ever eaten.

Fantastic, affordable sandwich deli in the heart of London's financial district. There is little room for sitting, but when the food is this good, I don't mind. The hummus and sun dried tomato sandwich was to die for and even on a hot day, I opted for the soup of the day which was a cream of broccoli soup. Both tasted very well and satiated my appetite. I will definitely return to try the rest of their menu and eagerly anticipate what their soup of the day will be.

On a hump day (Wednesday) during our lunch break. My colleague came with this seafood sandwich. I asked him where did you get that sandwich? He told me about this place. I was so intrigued I was dying to find out more about delicatessen sandwiches, which is a rare occurrence in London. Got tired of Subway so I wanted to eat something unique. Anyways, fast forward to Friday - walked inside this cute little vintage sandwich shop currently running by Paul and his son Stephen Rothe (as they’re 3rd-4th generation of this 123 year old establishment) I ordered the popular vegetarian option - Sundried Tomatoes, Swiss Emmental Cheese and Hummus. Tasted great way too delicious I was really impressed. Just the sandwich itself it’s £4. Massive bargain! Downside - They will charge you £0.50 for toasting the bread! Hilarious I know but it’s okay. The drinks on top of that will be around £8 quid. Which is not that bad pricing wise. But there’s no meal deal option. Limited halal options. Only the chicken is halal.

Found Paul Rotherhithe & Sons Deli today just off the main shopping streets. Give it a try even if you would like a coffee, rather than a corporate conveyor shop. The sandwiches are made to order try the salted beef with horse radish. It’s a hidden gem for any traveller visiting the city.

A very good find in Marylebone, London. Had read glowing reviews about this deli prior to visiting, and it certainly lived up to them. Extensive selection of sandwiches, and the ones we had both time we visited were delicious! The staff were very friendly, and the prices reasonable. Further, a great selection of condiments on display to buy. Will definitely be back next time we are in London!

Got a a brown BLT sandwich this morning it was amazing. The ingredients and bread are so fresh and tasty. My friend got white bread ham and cheese and the ham he said was delicious.

Every time we visit London this Deli is top of our list to visit. In fact we no longer book breakfast at our hotel as we want to go to Paul Rothes every day. It stocks just about everything and they make the most delicious sandwiches and homemade soups. A truly wonderful selection. Such a lovely family business which I can only describe as special. It’s lovely that some places never change. Honestly its a little treasure of a place and my husband and I cannot wait to return. They deserve all the trade we can all give them as this is a shop that should be preserved. We need to keep places like this going as I know of no others as special as this.

Truly the best part of visiting london

Amazing, friendly place that's been under the same family for at least four generations. It's got a great vibe. Honestly, not the very best coffee and sandwich I've ever had, but it's good, surprisingly inexpensive (for some things) friendly (when not busy), and full of character. Beware new staff who don't know what they're doing though. I bought a hot salami sandwich that was actually two presliced bread slices, butter, and a few thin slices of salami for more than 5 quid. I think she forgot the hot and the toppings!

Wow. What a sandwich joint! Egg sandwich with mayo and anchovies is maybe the best egg sandwich I’ve had in my life. The pastrami with Swiss and pickles is also amazing. This is a must try for anyone in London.
