Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

£480 TAKEN from MY BANK ACCOUNT!!! I booked this restaurant for myself and 2 of my sisters for Tuesday evening. When booking you are told that 48hrs notice of cancellation is needed. Not a problem, so I thought until we had to cancel. I tried to ring the Restaurant Sunday to advise of our cancellation . but there was no reply just a recorded message saying that they did not open until Tuesday at 10am and that the phones are not manned and no answer machine. We were in the middle of nowhere (deliberately) We were all staying at a caravan site about 10 miles away. from Padstow, therefore no internet service. I managed to get an email through on the Monday morning. I continued to phone in the hope someone may answer! No luck. I was charged for the whole meal not just a percentage but the whole lot. They refused to take into account the fact I’d rung numerous times. I have the proof. Poor show Paul.

If you dine at a Paul Ainsworth restaurant you take it for granted that the fundamental feature of the experience - the food - is going to be high quality. From that perspective the tasting menu at Number 6 more than delivered to those expectations but the overriding sensation of this lunchtime visit was the attention to detail in all aspects of the experience. The decor of the dining-room, the staff chosen music playlist and the great service from all the staff … at Number 6 it all adds up to a special couple of hours of the finest dining. A great dining experience is more than just great food. But of course the food itself was great. The highlight for me - if I had to pick one - would be both the beetroot and eel dish and then the pigeon (which was an option between this and the cod dish). From a pure eating experience Number 6 is in the top 3-4 restaurants I’ve visited but as an overall experience of service, atmosphere, decor and the ambience of the main dining room it perhaps only ranks behind L’Enclume as an entire package. From arriving and having a pre-meal drink in the upstairs Ci Ci’s bar and throughout the entire duration of the lunch, those few hours at Number 6 count as one of the very best dining experiences I’ve ever had. You are going to spend a fair few £££ to dine here but if you are visiting Padstow and fine dining is what you are into then it is an absolute must to book here. I had very high expectations and without doubt they were exceeded. The final slice of attention to detail came unexpectedly from one of the team at Number 6. During lunch we mentioned that we were going to visit the beach over at Rock afterwards. The waitress gave us lots of advice about getting the ferry rather than driving around there and the times of the ferry and how late it would run to bring us back given the tide times etc … and essentially why it was a nicer experience to take the ferry rather than drive around there. The next day she sent us a message asking how it had all worked out and whether we’d had a nice time etc. A simple touch that leaves a lasting impression of what Number 6 is all about.

From the point of booking to the post visit email, the customer service was faultless. We took the opportunity to have a few drinks in Cici’s before dinner (and one after), very refined but relaxed and i would strongly recommend it to others. The bar tender was very happy to engage but was discrete enough to take his leave at the appropriate time. On moving downstairs for supper, every single member of the team was so attentive, the dining experience was intimate, personal and we were made to feel special as if they had all the time in the world to chat, genuinely taking an interest in their guests. We are very fortunate to have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the UK, Number 6 very much remains at the top of the list. We came to Padstow to chill out, do some walking, eat and drink - this was the perfect way to end the week. Whilst I very much recognise the price point is high end, every course was exquisite, beautifully presented and tasted sublime. I could not select a particular course as my favourite - I would usually prefer savoury over sweet but the desserts were out of this world. The matching wine flight is extravagant but definitely worth it. We must make special mention of team members Lauren and specifically Fiona, who obviously took on board much of our chatter to craft such a terrific post visit email. It might be 6 years since we last visited but we won’t leave it so long next time.

Having enjoyed cocktails in CiCis one night , we were curious to experience No 6 restaurant, and delighted that we managed to get a booking for the next evening . The food was, as we expected it to be, absolutely superb , but what really blew us away was how personalised the service was , from the welcome to a thank you mail afterwards . We’ve had many amazing meals in Michelin starred restaurants around the world , but this was one of the best service experiences we’ve encountered.

What an experience from start to finish they were so helpful, so positive with constant smiles. I have coeliac disease so this was a worry for me at first, but wow they couldn't be been more helpful or understanding of my dietary requirements. Myself and husband had the same meals throughout which didn't make me feel left out which was great, the value for money is what i would expect regarding the meals we were served. We hope to come back soon, thank you No6.

I do not need to leave a long review as all the previous reviews that say it is epic I concur. I had got engaged in the afternoon so of course was hoping for a great experience for dinner. And boy did it not disappoint. The staff made a fuss over us for obvious reason but did not go OTT. The perfect balance. The food was as I expected having waited to eat here almost a decade. The pigeon a favorite of mine! I have eaten in a lot of quality restaurants over the years around the world and would put this up there. I wish the team all the success in the world. And with Padstow now having life significance I will no doubt be back in the coming years!

What an absolutely amazing evening and a real experience. Staff were friendly and engaging and explained every course in lots of detail which was great . We had a cocktail in Cici’s bar before which was lovely. Every course was absolutely amazing -each one getting better and better. It is very expensive but worth it for a real treat . Shout out to our waiter Tyler who was very friendly and welcoming -we loved all the personalised touches from the menus to the email following up our meal showing us our waiter really listened to what we had said throughout the meal. Highly recommend

Wow! What a meal… Great drinks, amazing food, and even better staff. The scallop was the best I’ve ever had, along with the soup and scones too. It was my friends birthday and first Michelin experience and safe to say he was speechless! The FOH team made his birthday extra special. Tori and Amelia were especially amazing, so passionate, friendly and attentive! Thank you to Chef Paul & his incredible team for an unforgettable meal! We will definitely be back!

Really nice experience and lovely food. Just feels a bit too expensive, I am not a rich man but i can understand why they charge the prices they do but for me it is a little overpriced. Food is great but the service is second to none, really attentive and friendly staff

Fabulous food, beautifully presented and SO tasty. We took 2hours to eat all of the courses and were so full at the end that we had to forgo the coffee. We will definitely return.

I visited here recently for a relatives 60th birthday! It was a magical visit from start to finish! We were lucky enough to be in a private room and served by a very polite and informative guy named Elliott. He introduced each dish with it's flavours, the origins of the ingredients and was very attentive to our group. We felt well looked after. The food itself was on another level and exactly what you'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Beautifully presented and powerful flavours. A great recommendation for a special birthday or celebration. A meal you will not forget.

Last minute Dinner booking. It's been a number of years since our first visit. In fact it's that long ago,Paul had not been there too long himself either.To our shame we have only just managed to re-visit.Although last year we did go to Caffè Rojano and that was because we couldn't get in here,but still lovely. As soon as we booked,we received a phone call asking if there's any special requirements and the names of the diners. This shows true customer service. So we finally made it back. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table right next to the kitchen. What's on the table? Personalised menus. That displays the attention to detail they go to. Although it's a tasting menu, it is explained to you as there are two choices of starters and mains. We chose one of each obviously. We're not going to go through each course as they were all beatifully presented and delicious. A couple of the chefs served the turbot dish which we loved and on tasting the fish,brought a tear of joy. The pigeon was so tender and the cod,just perfect. Not forgetting the delightful desserts. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, professional and super friendly. You can just tell they love their job. We were even shown to the kitchen to meet the very talented chefs and a look at the amazing kitchen upstairs. We had the most fantastic evening & truly memorable. This has got to be one our best dining experiences ever,and we've had just a few of them. If you are ever going to try a fine dining restaurant. Then look no further than here as this is the epitomy of hospitality at the top of their game. It certainly deserves an extra star from the tyre men.

Possibly the best meal I’ve ever had! Me and my partner ate at No6 last week and are both still recounting the experience a week later. The service was exemplary! The attention to detail was astounding. We had the tasting menu, which was personalised to our dietary requirements and preferences. Every course was memorable, the wine pairings were inspired. I would say more but I don’t want to give away the surprise and magic of the experience. All I can say is I would recommend it to anyone as a special place to eat.

My son who is a regular fish and seafood eater started throwing up after eating several courses. We also learnt we are not the first to suspect food poisoning.

After a few courses Ben threw up. He threw up again on the way home & continued once he got home. He has no allergies or intolerances, he eats seafood & shellfish regularly. None of his friends or family have a bug. We also learnt that he isn’t the first to suspect food poisoning

I booked for our special meal while on holiday with family. I am newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s and was taken really ill with covid symptoms. Was gutted to cancel and come home early from holiday. I got a negative test result but am now under my gp having antibiotics, endoscopy, ultrasound etc to find out what’s wrong. I was horrified to find out £500 odd pounds has been taken out by restaurant. After speaking with the manager today I’m informed because it wasn’t covid there’s nothing I can do!! No movement no whatsoever. Heartbroken !! 😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪 Please note - No response from restaurant!!!

Came here for our wedding anniversary. Thought it would be a winner considering we ordered the most expensive item on the menu, a £100 steak. On a promise you would think, but no IT WAS BY FAR THE WORST STEAK I HAVE EVER BEEN PRESENTED WTH…. We paid and tipped thinking maybe we are common and not worthy of this venue but we were just in shock! After we recovered from the disappointment we tried to complain but mr ainsworth is so up himself he doesn’t think he needs a complaints department. I hope to bump into him though and being local is very likely. I have a sandwich attached to my left arm for him to try. £100 is a good days wages in Cornwall WTF

Premium multi course dining experience.Fantastic attention to detail (individual menu’s and quality gifts) with real showstopper dishes.We particularly liked the Wild Turbot and the Fillet of Cornish Moorland Beef.Superb.The focus on sweet and savoury dishes plus scones was a lot of fun.Excellent wine list and service.Certainly a premium price at GB Pounds 160 per person but reasonable when you consider what is being delivered

Amazing, from start to finish, the food, the team, the explanations, little touches of emails..... the cookies were out of this world that we were given at the end of the evening to take home. We had good chat with all staff members. we worKed our way through the cocktaills which were lovely too 🍹. Another great visit to No.6, we try to come each year in April to celebrate a birthday and it always becomes the highlight. First visited before Paul Ainsworth owned the restaurant and was the Chef only way back when, each year since the food just gets better and better. Not a lot I can say but fantastic food and fantastic staff. Roll on next year

Our evening dining was fun and interesting with most importantly the highest level of cooking and service. The attention to detail of having individually named menus in place on arrival, and the efficiency of the paired wine service elevated the hospitality experience to the next level. All in all an experience that we will not forget.

The food is of high quality and the service is very good. The location is not that inspiring. I thought it was very expensive particularly the wine. I think there are better eating experiences in the area.

The best restaurant I've ever been to...bar none. That's including Waterside, Hand and Flowers, Bibendum, Manor...and many more. The all the pigeon dish was a masterclass in cookery. And beyond the food you could not get a better atmosphere. I went with the wine pairing and the sommelier was fantastic in presenting and talking me through all the accompaniments. All front of house were awesome. Paul wasn't present, busy guy as "they" all are. Chris was awesome though. Great to see him behind the pass and then come out to have a chat. Really great chef.

Oh wow, such a wonderful evening. The quavers and dip were a fantastic start. Both tarts tasted amazing. The young chef produced both tarts all night to an incredible standard. Really impressive to see a young chef doing such incredible work. All the food was so good. What makes this restaurant as well as the out standing food is the service. Everyone takes time to talk to you and nothing feels rushed. Really lovely to start dinner that 1930 and finish at 2230, a change when most of life is so rushed.

Totally amazing would recommend to everyone! If you haven’t been you need to go. We went for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary and wow what a wonderful experience we were both totally blown away by the food and the service. The little personal touches were so thoughtful too, an anniversary card on arrival was just lovely. We will definitely be back soon.

What a fantastic experience we had at No6 tonight. After a warm welcome from the team when you arrive you are presented with a tasting menu that gives you the opportunity to choose some of the courses which was a pleasant surprise. The food was tremendous, a cut above similar restaurants in our opinion, and we left feeling very satisfied. The service was exemplary and the team were friendly and knowledgeable. Cant wait to come back!

What a treat. The whole evenings attention to detail was second to none. From our personal printed menus through to a follow-up email when I reached home. Warm and cosy restaurant with a glass screen on to the kitchen. The food was exquisite. Every mouthful a taste sensation. Each courses ingredients were explained to us and where they were sourced. The service and staff were impeccable. There is nothing I could fault from this evenings experience. And to end the night, we were given gift bags of tea and cookies. If you get the chance to experience here. It is very special and we are going to now try further Paul Ainsworth establishments.

I’m never normally one to write a review but my wife and I were so blown away by this incredible restaurant that I felt obliged. We came to celebrate my wife's birthday, as she had wanted to come for a while and it certainly did not disappoint. Every element of the experience is done to the highest degree from the personalised menu, service knowledge, to of course the most impeccable food I have ever eaten. Highlights include ‘crab sticks and scones’, the turbot and of course ‘yesterday’s scone’. DIVINE. I also must mention the service, every member of the team has so much knowledge and passion, special mention to Emily who was so attentive and Lauren whose knowledge of wine is epic. Huge recommendation to anyone that wants to experience a really memorable evening. We will certainly be returning as soon as we are back in Cornwall.

This was our third visit for dinner at No 6. We endorse all that the previous latest reviewers have said: that is, complimenting the staff, the service and most of all the exquisite food. The menu contained some of my favourite foods. The beetroot and smoked eel tart was superb. The three desserts were beautifully created with delicious ingredients. My only criticism, not being a big meat eater, would be: I should have liked a vegetable to accompany the tasty fillet steak or another option with a vegetarian slant. This wonderful evening, together with our stay at the Padstow Townhouse, was a treat which we shall definitely repeat!

We visited No 6 for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. On arrival we were welcomed by every staff member we saw. On our table was a lovely card wishing us a happy anniversary from Paul and his family. Our menus were personalised and had the date of the visit which was a nice touch. The food as you would expect was amazing and service was impeccable. It was a lovely touch to have some of the courses served to us by the head chef and team. At the end of the meal we were given a gift bag which had cookies and some tea which was a lovely touch but what I liked most was the QR code for the play list on Spotify which we could download. I thought this was a great touch which I have never had before when visiting a Michelin starred restaurant which I do often. But the cream of the crop was receiving an email from the restaurant thanking us for our visit and hoping we had a great day in Bodmin and watching the football the next day. Half the time when talking to staff they listen but don’t truly take an interest To have such a personalised email just made us feel special. To fishing off I then got a call from the customer experience team advising me that I had left my glasses behind. The fact that they didn’t wait for me to enquire was excellent. They then arranged to get them back to me. Truly excellent customer service. Definitely worth a visit

Visited Ci Ci bar this afternoon and we could not have asked for finer food, cocktails or service. A must try for anyone visiting Padstow.

Taken as a treat by my son this was an unforgettable dining experience. Each course was executed to perfection, the staff are so knowledgable, welcoming and friendly. Every dish was explained with intricate detail. The food was exquisite. We couldn’t manage the last course and were offered if we would like to take it home, in what is the best “doggy bag” I’ve seen. The surroundings and ambience is spot on. Our names on the menus is a lovely touch. We thank each and every one of the team for a dining experience we will not forget.

We love No.6 and in fact the entire Ainsworth stable. Our son gifted us a meal at Christmas by means of a voucher. It was a thing of beauty itself. I knew from previous experiences that we were in for a treat but my goodness, it really is out of this world! If you've never been then if you go expecting the best food, the best service, a wonderful ambience and the finest attention to detail, you won't go far wrong (you will experience so much more but set the yardstick there). Our table was one of the ones near to the kitchen with a high backed corner sofa - the perfect place to sit and while away the hours. Menus were printed with our names and we set off on our voyage. The set meal is the same for lunch/dinner and had just changed as No6 staff came back from their R&R. Crabsticks & Scones - devine. A fresh piece of crab which was tempured in the most fragile and delicate of batters. Served with a cheesy light and fluffy scone with hand churned butter. Morel (me) - wow! Delicate but punchy with the most amazing tomato ketchup. Land & River (him) - the stand out if there can be one. 'He' said it is quite simply the best dish he has ever eaten. A soft smoked flavour through the pretty beetroot. If you follow No.6 on Insta, have a look at how they make this. Then imagine how amazing it tastes. Wild Red Prawn (me) - the juiciest sweet prawn with an almost-hollandaise with attitude. Exquisite. Wild Turbot (him) - in the subtlest of Camel Valley sauces. King of the sea indeed. Scarpetta - when you don't think you can possibly sink to new lows, you get this to mop everything up. Oh my goodness. It's really naughty. Fillet of Moorland Beef - we are lucky enough to have Philip Warren as our butcher and rarely eat steak anywhere when out as there is nothing quite like it. No6 even made Philip Warren's beef go off the scale. The carrot was incredible. Yesterday's Scone - a dense dark sherry which you sample and then pour over this cleanser. Needless to say as non sherry drinkers we have ordered some for home. I have never tasted anything like it. Genius way to use up the crumbs, worthy of a star all on its own. Yorkshire Rhubarb - I dislike rhubarb so wasn't looking forward to this but it was with blood orange and the roasted vanilla and madeleines meant it was taken to the very best a rhubarb could be. I am now converted. I guess I've never really had it done well. This was done brilliantly. Our Apple Pie - incredible apple pie (tarte tatin style) with two complimentary cheeses. Yum. I have no idea how we ate what we did but I guess the glass of Pouilly Fume helped. If you are able to go to No6. You absolutely must. Quite simply the most fantastic afternoon - the best part of two and a bit hours of sheer perfection. You also get a goody bag - the cookies are to die for!

Just a great experience . Food was amazing … successive courses were pitch perfect … service was faultless . Loved the music and ambience which gave a nice vibe . Left smiling .

To put into words this dining experience is almost impossible. We have dined in one, two and three Michelin Star restaurants and No.6 surpassed them all on all accounts. The welcome at this very cosy “house” that looked just perfect at Christmas time was genuine and heartfelt. We started our amazing evening with cocktails and champagne in the upstairs bar having booked a table in advance. There is a tapas menu and some people had just come for that and drinks. We were then taken to our downstairs table and were fortunate enough to have one that looked into the kitchen where all the magic was happening. There was only one word to describe the waiter that looked after us most of the evening - perfect. We had chosen the wine flight and glad we did - amazing. The food was just so inventive and beautifully cooked and plated. Without doubt the best meal we have had. And as we left we were given a small gift bag - what a lovely touch. This is a restaurant of the highest quality and we can’t wait to return.

Having visited No.6 for the first time on the special Christmas Eve Eve special menu we were both blown away by the hospitality of everyone at No.6! Truly a very very special evening was had. The entire team made us both feel so welcome and our heartfelt thanks! Though we wonder why the underline on the 'passe' board ;-)

We had a brilliant meal and indeed experience here just before Christmas. The quality of the cooking has definitely gone up a level or two since we last ate here. This feels like close to 2 star Michelin standard if not already at that level. The attention to detail in the presentation is superb but so are the flavours of the dishes. I loved my pigeon main course but equally was very envious of my wife’s cod dish. We also really appreciated the opportunity to choose at least a couple of courses and not just be confronted with a no-choice tasting menu. The service was also exceptional, chatty but not over-familiar and the personalised menus are a great touch. It is a small and intimate place and I think they have got the balance of ambiance, service and food pretty much spot on. We will be back in 2024 without a doubt.

My wife and I have been to No6 quite a few times and it's always a special treat on our visits to Padstow. This time we enjoyed a wonderful New Years Eve at the restaurant and the staff and food were as amazing as ever. Highly recommend...

No.6 is the most amazing restaurant I have been to. It ticks every box and everyone needs to experience it. Spending New Year’s Eve there was magical and I can’t wait to visit again.

Mind blowing cooking at No 6 today for lunch , fantastic flavours and excellent service . Lovely bar man conjures up some great non alcoholic cocktails and the young floor staff team are knowledgeable and charming. Worth every penny.

What an experience!! We treated ourself with a dinner at number6. It was fantastic from start to finish, the flavours were like fire works in our mouth. Every glass of wine was advise expertly to fuse with each dish. And the service was "aux petits oignons", available but not oppressing. Thank you so much to Chris and Alice and their team for that wonderful evening.

My Mum and Dad recently visited No. 6 restaurant and The Mariners and stayed at the townhouse. They had the most wonderful time, my Mum was completely overwhelmed with the time Paul spent with her and in doing so created the most incredible memory. We had dinner at No 6 last night. What an experience. The food was top class and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. They were all so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We even got to go in the kitchen and meet the younger chefs. I’d highly recommend as a special treat.

Now I now what a Michelin* restaurant is all about and more. Not only exceptional tasting and presented food, but service and attention to detail match. The personalised menus on the tables with you name added even showed the small alteration due to dietary requirements!

Spectacular. We booked for an anniversary celebration, and it was everything we could have hoped for. An experience like this is a leap of faith - and No.6 is a pair of safe hands. The food is exceptional. The wine pairing package was expensive but excellent, and really took the food to another level. What set No.6 apart was the service. Brilliantly friendly without being overbearing, knowledgeable without being irritable when asked stupid questions (!!) - a shout out to the sommeliers! So many special touches ... an anniversary card, personalised menus, gifts to take away, a map of local ingredients and suppliers, and a follow up email was a lovely touch. The restaurant itself is small, but accommodates enough guests to keep 15 or so tables full, with enough staff to perfectly serve everyone, without feeling noisy, busy or stressful. I envy anyone who can eat there regularly, and will certainly be back!

My husband had always wanted to visit No6, as we live in North Northumberland it is quite a trek. I am so glad we made the effort! The venue is fantastic, I would suggest leaving for the restaurant a little early so you can visit the wonderful Ci-Ci’s cocktail bar above the restaurant, I had the best vodka martini I have had in a while! The restaurant itself has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff are amazing, extremely knowledgeable and friendly and the service throughout the meal was brilliant. Now the food, I am not sure how to describe the wonderful array of courses. A master class in cuisine across every course. Everything was superb. The matching wines and sommelier were fantastic. The best thing I can say is we will definitely be back regarding of the distance travelled.

From the moment we stepped through the door it was an absolute joy and delight. CiCi’s bar had a delightful person called Tom serving us our pre dinner drinks (he gave permission to use his name) he made up a cocktail based upon my tastes. It was perfect and Tom even took the time to write down the recipe! At the allocated time we were escorted down to the restaurant where (do look at the photos) the table was adorned with our personalised menu. I had a birthday card too waiting for me! Very thoughtful. Thank you. Every course and pairing wines (Lauren was our sommelier) were explained to us with wonderful enthusiasm and so very interesting to hear. This was also accompanied by the best music (it could have been our Spotify playlist!) Each member of staff get to pick 10 songs and we get to enjoy listening. Upstairs it is mainly Emma’s choice which is more upbeat. Photos probably don’t do justice to the love care and attention to each creation. When we left we got a Goodie bag with treats.
