Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Came here for our wedding anniversary. Thought it would be a winner considering we ordered the most expensive item on the menu, a £100 steak. On a promise you would think, but no IT WAS BY FAR THE WORST STEAK I HAVE EVER BEEN PRESENTED WTH…. We paid and tipped thinking maybe we are common and not worthy of this venue but we were just in shock! After we recovered from the disappointment we tried to complain but mr ainsworth is so up himself he doesn’t think he needs a complaints department. I hope to bump into him though and being local is very likely. I have a sandwich attached to my left arm for him to try. £100 is a good days wages in Cornwall WTF

Amazing, from start to finish, the food, the team, the explanations, little touches of emails..... the cookies were out of this world that we were given at the end of the evening to take home. We had good chat with all staff members. we worKed our way through the cocktaills which were lovely too 🍹. Attention to detail and surprises along the way was worth the visit from Yorkshire! thank you to all the team.

Another great visit to No.6, we try to come each year in April to celebrate a birthday and it always becomes the highlight. First visited before Paul Ainsworth owned the restaurant and was the Chef only way back when, each year since the food just gets better and better. Not a lot I can say but fantastic food and fantastic staff. Roll on next year

Our evening dining was fun and interesting with most importantly the highest level of cooking and service. The attention to detail of having individually named menus in place on arrival, and the efficiency of the paired wine service elevated the hospitality experience to the next level. All in all an experience that we will not forget.

The food is of high quality and the service is very good. The location is not that inspiring. I thought it was very expensive particularly the wine. I think there are better eating experiences in the area.

The best restaurant I've ever been to...bar none. That's including Waterside, Hand and Flowers, Bibendum, Manor...and many more. The all the pigeon dish was a masterclass in cookery. And beyond the food you could not get a better atmosphere. I went with the wine pairing and the sommelier was fantastic in presenting and talking me through all the accompaniments. All front of house were awesome. Paul wasn't present, busy guy as "they" all are. Chris was awesome though. Great to see him behind the pass and then come out to have a chat. Really great chef.

Oh wow, such a wonderful evening. The quavers and dip were a fantastic start. Both tarts tasted amazing. The young chef produced both tarts all night to an incredible standard. Really impressive to see a young chef doing such incredible work. All the food was so good. What makes this restaurant as well as the out standing food is the service. Everyone takes time to talk to you and nothing feels rushed. Really lovely to start dinner that 1930 and finish at 2230, a change when most of life is so rushed.

Totally amazing would recommend to everyone! If you haven’t been you need to go. We went for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary and wow what a wonderful experience we were both totally blown away by the food and the service. The little personal touches were so thoughtful too, an anniversary card on arrival was just lovely. We will definitely be back soon.

What a fantastic experience we had at No6 tonight. After a warm welcome from the team when you arrive you are presented with a tasting menu that gives you the opportunity to choose some of the courses which was a pleasant surprise. The food was tremendous, a cut above similar restaurants in our opinion, and we left feeling very satisfied. The service was exemplary and the team were friendly and knowledgeable. Cant wait to come back!

What a treat. The whole evenings attention to detail was second to none. From our personal printed menus through to a follow-up email when I reached home. Warm and cosy restaurant with a glass screen on to the kitchen. The food was exquisite. Every mouthful a taste sensation. Each courses ingredients were explained to us and where they were sourced. The service and staff were impeccable. There is nothing I could fault from this evenings experience. And to end the night, we were given gift bags of tea and cookies. If you get the chance to experience here. It is very special and we are going to now try further Paul Ainsworth establishments.

I’m never normally one to write a review but my wife and I were so blown away by this incredible restaurant that I felt obliged. We came to celebrate my wife's birthday, as she had wanted to come for a while and it certainly did not disappoint. Every element of the experience is done to the highest degree from the personalised menu, service knowledge, to of course the most impeccable food I have ever eaten. Highlights include ‘crab sticks and scones’, the turbot and of course ‘yesterday’s scone’. DIVINE. I also must mention the service, every member of the team has so much knowledge and passion, special mention to Emily who was so attentive and Lauren whose knowledge of wine is epic. Huge recommendation to anyone that wants to experience a really memorable evening. We will certainly be returning as soon as we are back in Cornwall.

This was our third visit for dinner at No 6. We endorse all that the previous latest reviewers have said: that is, complimenting the staff, the service and most of all the exquisite food. The menu contained some of my favourite foods. The beetroot and smoked eel tart was superb. The three desserts were beautifully created with delicious ingredients. My only criticism, not being a big meat eater, would be: I should have liked a vegetable to accompany the tasty fillet steak or another option with a vegetarian slant. This wonderful evening, together with our stay at the Padstow Townhouse, was a treat which we shall definitely repeat!

We visited No 6 for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. On arrival we were welcomed by every staff member we saw. On our table was a lovely card wishing us a happy anniversary from Paul and his family. Our menus were personalised and had the date of the visit which was a nice touch. The food as you would expect was amazing and service was impeccable. It was a lovely touch to have some of the courses served to us by the head chef and team. At the end of the meal we were given a gift bag which had cookies and some tea which was a lovely touch but what I liked most was the QR code for the play list on Spotify which we could download. I thought this was a great touch which I have never had before when visiting a Michelin starred restaurant which I do often. But the cream of the crop was receiving an email from the restaurant thanking us for our visit and hoping we had a great day in Bodmin and watching the football the next day. Half the time when talking to staff they listen but don’t truly take an interest To have such a personalised email just made us feel special. To fishing off I then got a call from the customer experience team advising me that I had left my glasses behind. The fact that they didn’t wait for me to enquire was excellent. They then arranged to get them back to me. Truly excellent customer service. Definitely worth a visit

Visited Ci Ci bar this afternoon and we could not have asked for finer food, cocktails or service. A must try for anyone visiting Padstow.

Taken as a treat by my son this was an unforgettable dining experience. Each course was executed to perfection, the staff are so knowledgable, welcoming and friendly. Every dish was explained with intricate detail. The food was exquisite. We couldn’t manage the last course and were offered if we would like to take it home, in what is the best “doggy bag” I’ve seen. The surroundings and ambience is spot on. Our names on the menus is a lovely touch. We thank each and every one of the team for a dining experience we will not forget.

We love No.6 and in fact the entire Ainsworth stable. Our son gifted us a meal at Christmas by means of a voucher. It was a thing of beauty itself. I knew from previous experiences that we were in for a treat but my goodness, it really is out of this world! If you've never been then if you go expecting the best food, the best service, a wonderful ambience and the finest attention to detail, you won't go far wrong (you will experience so much more but set the yardstick there). Our table was one of the ones near to the kitchen with a high backed corner sofa - the perfect place to sit and while away the hours. Menus were printed with our names and we set off on our voyage. The set meal is the same for lunch/dinner and had just changed as No6 staff came back from their R&R. Crabsticks & Scones - devine. A fresh piece of crab which was tempured in the most fragile and delicate of batters. Served with a cheesy light and fluffy scone with hand churned butter. Morel (me) - wow! Delicate but punchy with the most amazing tomato ketchup. Land & River (him) - the stand out if there can be one. 'He' said it is quite simply the best dish he has ever eaten. A soft smoked flavour through the pretty beetroot. If you follow No.6 on Insta, have a look at how they make this. Then imagine how amazing it tastes. Wild Red Prawn (me) - the juiciest sweet prawn with an almost-hollandaise with attitude. Exquisite. Wild Turbot (him) - in the subtlest of Camel Valley sauces. King of the sea indeed. Scarpetta - when you don't think you can possibly sink to new lows, you get this to mop everything up. Oh my goodness. It's really naughty. Fillet of Moorland Beef - we are lucky enough to have Philip Warren as our butcher and rarely eat steak anywhere when out as there is nothing quite like it. No6 even made Philip Warren's beef go off the scale. The carrot was incredible. Yesterday's Scone - a dense dark sherry which you sample and then pour over this cleanser. Needless to say as non sherry drinkers we have ordered some for home. I have never tasted anything like it. Genius way to use up the crumbs, worthy of a star all on its own. Yorkshire Rhubarb - I dislike rhubarb so wasn't looking forward to this but it was with blood orange and the roasted vanilla and madeleines meant it was taken to the very best a rhubarb could be. I am now converted. I guess I've never really had it done well. This was done brilliantly. Our Apple Pie - incredible apple pie (tarte tatin style) with two complimentary cheeses. Yum. I have no idea how we ate what we did but I guess the glass of Pouilly Fume helped. If you are able to go to No6. You absolutely must. Quite simply the most fantastic afternoon - the best part of two and a bit hours of sheer perfection. You also get a goody bag - the cookies are to die for!

To put into words this dining experience is almost impossible. We have dined in one, two and three Michelin Star restaurants and No.6 surpassed them all on all accounts. The welcome at this very cosy “house” that looked just perfect at Christmas time was genuine and heartfelt. We started our amazing evening with cocktails and champagne in the upstairs bar having booked a table in advance. There is a tapas menu and some people had just come for that and drinks. We were then taken to our downstairs table and were fortunate enough to have one that looked into the kitchen where all the magic was happening. There was only one word to describe the waiter that looked after us most of the evening - perfect. We had chosen the wine flight and glad we did - amazing. The food was just so inventive and beautifully cooked and plated. Without doubt the best meal we have had. And as we left we were given a small gift bag - what a lovely touch. This is a restaurant of the highest quality and we can’t wait to return.

Having visited No.6 for the first time on the special Christmas Eve Eve special menu we were both blown away by the hospitality of everyone at No.6! Truly a very very special evening was had. The entire team made us both feel so welcome and our heartfelt thanks! Though we wonder why the underline on the 'passe' board ;-)

We had a brilliant meal and indeed experience here just before Christmas. The quality of the cooking has definitely gone up a level or two since we last ate here. This feels like close to 2 star Michelin standard if not already at that level. The attention to detail in the presentation is superb but so are the flavours of the dishes. I loved my pigeon main course but equally was very envious of my wife’s cod dish. We also really appreciated the opportunity to choose at least a couple of courses and not just be confronted with a no-choice tasting menu. The service was also exceptional, chatty but not over-familiar and the personalised menus are a great touch. It is a small and intimate place and I think they have got the balance of ambiance, service and food pretty much spot on. We will be back in 2024 without a doubt.

What an experience!! We treated ourself with a dinner at number6. It was fantastic from start to finish, the flavours were like fire works in our mouth. Every glass of wine was advise expertly to fuse with each dish. And the service was "aux petits oignons", available but not oppressing. My Mum and Dad recently visited No. 6 restaurant and The Mariners and stayed at the townhouse. We had dinner at No 6 last night. What an experience. The food was top class and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. They were all so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We even got to go in the kitchen and meet the younger chefs. I’d highly recommend as a special treat.

Now I now what a Michelin* restaurant is all about and more. Not only exceptional tasting and presented food, but service and attention to detail match. The personalised menus on the tables with you name added even showed the small alteration due to dietary requirements!

Spectacular. We booked for an anniversary celebration, and it was everything we could have hoped for. An experience like this is a leap of faith - and No.6 is a pair of safe hands. The food is exceptional. The wine pairing package was expensive but excellent, and really took the food to another level. What set No.6 apart was the service. Brilliantly friendly without being overbearing, knowledgeable without being irritable when asked stupid questions (!!) - a shout out to the sommeliers! So many special touches ... an anniversary card, personalised menus, gifts to take away, a map of local ingredients and suppliers, and a follow up email was a lovely touch. The restaurant itself is small, but accommodates enough guests to keep 15 or so tables full, with enough staff to perfectly serve everyone, without feeling noisy, busy or stressful. I envy anyone who can eat there regularly, and will certainly be back!

My husband had always wanted to visit No6, as we live in North Northumberland it is quite a trek. I am so glad we made the effort! The venue is fantastic, I would suggest leaving for the restaurant a little early so you can visit the wonderful Ci-Ci’s cocktail bar above the restaurant, I had the best vodka martini I have had in a while! The restaurant itself has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff are amazing, extremely knowledgeable and friendly and the service throughout the meal was brilliant. Now the food, I am not sure how to describe the wonderful array of courses. A master class in cuisine across every course. Everything was superb. The matching wines and sommelier were fantastic. The best thing I can say is we will definitely be back regarding of the distance travelled.

CiCi’s bar had a delightful person called Tom serving us our pre dinner drinks (he gave permission to use his name) he made up a cocktail based upon my tastes. It was perfect and Tom even took the time to write down the recipe! At the allocated time we were escorted down to the restaurant where (do look at the photos) the table was adorned with our personalised menu. I had a birthday card too waiting for me! Very thoughtful. Thank you. Every course and pairing wines (Lauren was our sommelier) were explained to us with wonderful enthusiasm and so very interesting to hear. This was also accompanied by the best music (it could have been our Spotify playlist!) Each member of staff get to pick 10 songs and we get to enjoy listening. A truly memorable experience. The minute you walk into the restaurant you feel special and although it is busy the service and attention to detail feels unique to you. With Paul himself serving some of the courses, him along with his chefs explain each dish in detail. The food is amazing too. A special occasion experience well worth the money!

It’s a difficult restaurant to find. Allow an extra 30 minutes to park the car and wend your way through the charming streets to look for the barely identifiable restaurant. That said, we were immensely impressed by the lady who stayed on the phone for about 20 minutes to guide us! The leather topped tables are definitely an interesting feature and the restaurant as a whole is warm and cosy. The food was excellent without being exceptional. The scallop was delicious but it was better at the Shore. The Cornish Cod was clearly very fresh but slightly bland. The scones were interesting but do you want something so stodgy when you’re having an eight course lunch? They certainly made a huge effort, not only enabling us to find the restaurant but in the charming welcome and the personalised menus. But at £150 per head plus drinks, almost double the cost of the Shore, we expected more.

Outstanding food, amazing staff & a barman that made me the best long Island iced tea I've ever had. Forget Rick this place is fantastic

It's our first time in Cornwall celebrating a birthday. We heard lots of good things about this restaurant so we were very much looking forward to it. I have been to several fine dining places before. Observations: 1. The customer services is the best of all restaurants I've been to - timely call to acknowledge special requests, a birthday card upon arrival and a gift bag upon leaving, and finally a customized thank you letter afterwards. I had to say the thank you letter was a real pleasant surprise - I was impressed that Izzy remembered our quick chit chat between the courses and the email was clearly not generic. 2. The food was wonderful, the quality and freshness of the ingredient was evident. My favorite was the scallops - I usually do not like them but the satisfying texture won my heart this time. I liked all of their savory dishes more than the desserts - except the Yesterday's Scone, which is now my favorite ice cream-like dessert and I am actually sad that I can't buy it anywhere else. I would give the food 4.5 stars, as sadly I don't actually like the rest of the desserts. Overall, this is a fantastic meal, unlike some fancy restaurants where presentation is everything and there's no flavour in food. 3. The restaurant is rather small, tables relatively close together and hence 4 starts. Padstow is a beautiful town, I only realized that on the day and sadly we didn't have time to stay. I would even say skip St Ives and just do Padstow. Parking is a nightmare - the advised public parking lot was full, so was nearby street parking and one house owner was actually outside stopping tourists parking near his house, so we ended up showing up late because we had to park far away. To make things worse, there was constructions all along the highway. Moral of the story, leave early and leave plenty of buffer room during peak season.

Absolutely stunning, exceptional service, gobsmacked by the intricacy of the food which delivered on flavour as well as appearance. A delightful treat experience.

Highly rate this place, wonderful experience. Everything was next, next level. Nice music selection too.

We’ve eaten at some excellent restaurants around the UK but this really was special by any comparison. The staff were attentive, well organised and friendly. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and even has a fab soundtrack (we’ve since found it on Spotify!). But mostly the food is spectacular! Every course is carefully created, the flavours balanced and dishes creatively presented. The turbot and the peach melba dishes were particular highlights but there really wasn’t a weakness in any course. The matched wine flight was equally creative and expertly explained by our sommelier. We spent 3 hours over lunch and were genuinely sorry to have to leave! Just superb!

This is our second time here and it was excellent/ exceptional as before ! Can’t fault the quality of food / personal attention given / from menus to the service ..! We started with the bar upstairs where we had a cocktail and champagne. The prices are very much central London but expected at a Michelin star restaurant…! The only slight negative I would point out was the old fashioned way as ok and not exceptionally good as I have had in some London bars ..! Set menu was amazing and wine list / selections etc was all awesome ..! The food was so delicious and everything was perfect that we wondered if it’s only a matter of time before they get 2 stars :) The scones were delicious with butter ..! Scallops were amazing…& so was pigeon ! Verdict - 5/5 Budget - easy £200 a head with drinks
