Absolutely brilliant. Had mums 90th birthday afternoon tea here. Highly recommend staff absolutely amazing as some of the guests needed helping upstairs and they insisted on helping. Nothing was too much for them. Highly highly recommend. We had the whole of upstairs to ourselves which was brilliant. Pls consider this location as handy for parking and vvv kind people working there. ! Defo 10/10!!!

We had a voucher for afternoon tea but I am dairy intolerant!!!.... the ladies were so helpful and together we worked it out....my husband enjoyed his afternoon deliciousness while I very much enjoyed my alternative one.... thank you ladies👏

Decided to pop in for the all day breakfast. This was a great choice and was most certainly fresh produce and well prepared. The staff are very friendly and professional and provide a quick and efficient service. Patisserie Valerie has had bad press in recent years but this one is well worth a visit if you are in Southend, the prices are good for what you receive

Really disappointing to be honest. Extremely over priced for the food portion size and quality. £14 for a small omelette and £5 for a children’s miniature slider advertised as sliders. We also had to ask for more crème cheese after a thin spread in the bagel. Will not be returning.

Myself and my friend came yesterday for brunch. Waitress very welcoming and attentive. Food was lovely, we both had Eggs Royale. Lovely hot and fresh. Will definitely return the cakes looked amazing.

I went for afternoon tea today with family and we really enjoyed it. A lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes, fresh and warm scones with jam and cream and unlimited tea and coffee. We had a voucher for afternoon tea for 2 and paid for an extra afternoon tea for 1, as well as food from the full menu for a child. The voucher included extra cakes to take away too which was a nice surprise. We were serves by Ana Marie and she was fantastic, so lovely, helpful and genuinely enjoyed serving us! She's been mentioned on other reviews and she really made the while experience for us. Her colleagues were equally as lovely too. We'll definitely be going back again soon as we really enjoyed it.

Fabulous food (all day breakfast) plenty food, not too much that you're put off by. Great service from our lovely attentive waitress. It's not the first time we've ve been and would definitely go back again.

Special offer 4 cakes for £12 - take away We bought mille feuilli, cheese cake, blueberry and lime cake and a mango passion cake. The cakes were great apart from the mille feuilli. The puff pastry was raw. For the price you should expect the cakes to be perfect. You can do better.

Lovely and clean, staff friendly and attentive, although they were really packed the staff didn’t keep us waiting, the food was lovely, drinks were delicious, what really stood out was that the staff all seemed to really enjoy their work

We had a voucher for afternoon tea so my daughter and I went together We did not have to wait to long for a table compared to some that waited around half hour We got directed to a table which we was glad to have a seat but it was still dirty and full of plates from the people before and we didn’t see a waitress for around 15 mins !! Eventually it was cleared after 15 mins and we ordered drinks which came promptly Food was about half hour as they were busy Food and drinks were nice, couldn’t really take advantage of the unlimited coffee as was hard to grab a waitress as they were rushed of their feet Would be a lot better if they had a few extra staff members as the staff seemed so stressed and the atmosphere was so stressful we didn’t feel relaxed and felt a nuisance asking for anything we needed And we left with a headache 🤕 But food was nice 😊

My husband and I had an excellent Afternoon Tea here (our 2nd visit having this). The food and drinks got served very quickly and our Waitress, Janecca, explained we could have unlimited hot drinks with the Afternoon Tea Food. My husband had a pot of tea and I had hot chocolate, well 2 hot chocolates and it would have been more if we stayed longer. We had very tasty sandwiches, warm scones and delicious patisserie cakes. I had trouble validating my voucher online but the Manageress, Micaela, was so helpful and helped me get this all sorted so definitely will give her 10/10 for her helpfulness. All the staff were very good, especially the Manageress Micaela and our Waitress Janecca and both were always smiling. We will definitely be returning for another Afternoon Tea. Good value for money when using the voucher.

Had an afternoon tea voucher nearing expiry and given we were in Southend for a day trip figured use it or lose it! I honestly wasn't expecting much and, as we waited for quite a while to be seated, I feared the worst. After ordering we asked whether we could move upstairs. This area is apparently only for customers ordering via the app, so it was almost empty and much calmer. The staff agreed and the guy who then looked after us was brilliant. I wish I'd got his name as he made us laugh as we watched the crazy Alice in Wonderland costumes going past outside. Our drinks and then afternoon tea arrived quickly. This was too much for the only other family upstairs, who claimed they'd been waiting over 40 mins for their food and subsequently upped and left. We had to go and get some jam, as this had been forgotten, but the sandwiches, warm scones and patisserie treats were actually not bad at all. I mean, it was no Fortnum and Mason afternoon tea but given the voucher price and that it filled us up for the rest of the day we're not complaining!

Terrible service. The staff did not know the menu or what gluten free mean't. They kept changing there minds as what milk was available. Horrendous.

I went to Patisserie Valerie with my son and sister today as a summer holiday treat. Was every so disappointed. It wasn't her fault but there was only one girl serving, she was running around answering the phone, cleaning tables, taking enquiries ect We waited 20 minutes to have the table we were seated up cleared around us and to have our order taken. We asked for 2 coffees, a scone and a scoop of ice cream for my son. The coffees came out reasonably quickly, the scone was warm but was really hard - I didn't want to complain as a few items I had asked for first were out of stock and I actually felt bad for the girl on her own. Our coffees were long finished before we asked about my sons ice-cream to be told "it will be out soon" and wait another ten minutes. The air con system was leaking onto the floor next to us and the cafe smelt really badly like inadequate plumbing - we were getting wafts of raw sewage smells that were really off-putting. My sister kept on saying we should leave but I felt sorry for my son as I had promised him a treat. I would not ever visit again. It used to be such a lovely place to go but it was tired, run down, and poorly managed.

I went to patesserie valerie again . I love this place very nice food ,the staff and the managers they are always welcoming, the atmosphere in there is so nice, if every restaurant had the staff like they have I wouldn't need to cook anymore.

We recently visited as a family with young children for Afternoon Tea All staff were amazing and so friendly with nothing being a problem and very welcoming to the children We used vouchers for Afternoon Tea which was amazing value for money. The sandwiches were a very good size with deep fillings, the cakes scrummy and the scones were fresh abd warm. We ordered extra toastier which was also very tasty. Not many Patisserie Valerie’s left around so this was a real gem and hopefully gets used more to keep it going Definitely recommend and will be back

The cakes and Pastry's on display in the window always look great (and they display the cheaper takeaway price too), but in all honesty they are no better that a normal bakery/cake shop, just these are more expensive, a lot more expensive, certainly not outstanding...

I came in to have a breakfast whilst I was waiting for the nearby barbers to open. I ordered a full large breakfast but unfortunately I was given the lesser size meal. To be fair the waitress noticed straifgt away and said it would only be a couple of minutes. Sure enough the extra sausage was delivered piping hot. It had obvioulsy been micro-waved and was foul. I purchased a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea with friends, we were unable to pre-book a table in advance, the restaurant was pretty busy but we managed to find a table ok, we were allowed any hot drink unlimited which was good, the actual afternoon tea was pretty standard, the sandwiches were quite thin but they tasted ok, the scones with cream and jam were very nice, we had a fruit one and a plain one each, and the selection of small cakes were also tasty, overall it was a nice experience, the staff were very friendly and helpful and I would go back and have the same again sometime.

Very friendly staff and delicious food. I am not a local, I was visiting friends and will definitely return next time I'm in the area because the staff was very attentive to make sure we were enjoying our meal.

As we approached the door a lovely lady raced to hold open the door and welcome us in we sat at a lovely table and the lady was so nice making sure we were comfortable in the wheelchair we ordered 2 teas and giant slice of strawberry sponge for the wife and a lovely strawberry flan with an absolute load of filling which we thoroughly enjoyed the lady was so helpful and kind it is a lovely relaxing atmosphere would definitely recommend.

This is my go to place every morning for breakfast. Why? Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and a great flat white! The porridge is also a real winner.

Patisserie Valerie in Southend is a regular go-to for me and my partner. Good coffee and food is simple (if you don't have the cakes :-) ) and consistent standard. What makes it stand out for us is the quality of service. Ana Maria has served us for over five years; her welcoming smile and engaging manner make it a pleasure to dine there. Many restaurants in Southend could learn a thing or two about customer service from Ana Maria and her colleagues. Even through the rough times that PV has gone through recently and the uncertainty that has brought, the staff have maintained their professionalism and warmth. Ana Maria stands out and it is always a pleasure to see her.

It is always refreshing when I visit pat val, never a dull moment, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or just a coffee, staff are fun to talk too, Ana Marie is lovely, always goes above board, nothing is too much, it’s great that Southend-on-Sea has a establishment that takes pride in what they do, us local people always need something like this as it’s worth going to town for.

Came in for a quick pit stop for tea and a slice of cake. Quite disappointed here. The cakes were quite dry. Although the service was lovely and accommodating and you can't go wrong with a tea.

Nice, clean, tidy and good service. Other than that nothing special over priced big time. Cakes and food are good but not fantastic which I would expect after nearly falling off my chair with the bill. Homemade bakers in Leigh wipes the floor with these guys and at a cost that you could buy five of the delicious delights to there one. As said though couldn’t fault the rest buy food and cakes are average and too expensive.

We have visited here a few times and the service is always excellent and waitresses are polite and helpful . Food is very good particularly the cakes. It is a little more expensive than all the usual coffee places on the high street but it is very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated and you are not sitting on top of everyone else . It is definitely a little more upmarket in every way. The main reason I would recommend this branch is the friendly service. We visited the same establishment in Henley and the staff were curt and it felt as if they were doing you a favour to serve you. If you prefer being served and like a relaxing atmosphere then this is a good place to go.

Ideal place for a great coffee and cake. Really great selection of cakes and pastries great coffee and attentive staff. A good break from shopping in town.

For a shop sitting on a bustling high street, from the minute you enter the ambience was very calming we sat upstairs and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea the server was very attentive and polite and genuinely interested in us as customers .The food is delicious and well worth it with an endless supply of hot drinks we sat and watched the world go by for over an hour and half and were not rushed in anyway thank you we had a great time

OK is about the best I can come up with. Overpriced with average service and I suppose it's all you can expect from a chain. Restaurant was reasonably busy but not rammed so couldn't really see any reason for the average service . Food wasn't great and certainly didn't justify the prices charged. Not on the list for a return visit.

Rude staff; Made to feel like an inconvenience with the size of our party (7 and a toddler). Staff got order wrong, refused to let us pay separately and then added items we had not ordered to our bill. Inappropriate comments were made to my friends who were sorting out a clothing disaster (broken zip) in the toilets, and there was an incident involving another customer trying to come in in a wheelchair and a staff member started cleaning a table instead of assisting by opening the door so another customer held the door open for them

Awful experience me and my friends had in the Southend branch this afternoon.

Popped in for a sandwich on Sunday as we were out shopping and fancied a quick lunch. Very attentive friendly waitress. Tuna melt sandwich was delicious with crisps and salad on the side. As we both left our salad (just fancied the sandwich!), the waitress did say we could have said no to the salad and got more crisps or something instead. So good to know. The only reason I avoided the salad was I didnt fancy the dressing that was on it.

Treated to afternoon tea by my daughter. We went this morning and were really disappointed. Although the initial service was great, we were greeted by very polite ladies, the food was mediocre, most of the sandwiches and cakes were completely flavourless, shell in the egg sandwich, a completely tasteless mini quiche and although the drinks were "endless" we were not approached by any staff after our initial serving, for more tea or coffee. I had to ask in the end. On top of that, my daughter had paid £25 online for the voucher and the shop advertise Afternoon Tea at £20.

We sat up stairs to relax and watch the world go by.

Made a pit stop whilst doing a spot of shopping. A pleasant place for a coffee & tasty cake. Plenty of fresh & delicious cakes & pastries to choose from. The only downside of our visit was several tables had not been cleared, but it was quite busy. But can’t complain about the quality of the products.

I have heard this outlet may be closing which would be a shame .it is a bit expensive for what you get but the produce is delicious ,just could have better sized portions .

This was our first visit to a Patisserie Valerie, although I’ve long admired the cakes. The tables are very close together downstairs, and unfortunately upstairs was closed off. It was very busy, but we were seated immediately. We didn’t wait too long for the food. A lovely assortment of sandwiches, cakes and scones which were delicious. The sizes were very mini, and the smallest I’ve had anywhere, but the price was also the cheapest I’ve paid. Lovely cappuccino, and a second cup each willingly given. We would return.

Have been here for breakfast. Nice, clean place with wide selection and kind staff but we payed at least 20% more than it was worth.

Have been here for an afternoon before which was fine, but came again recently in the summer and it wasn’t as good of an experience unfortunately. We were seated quickly but then forgotten about despite it not being too busy. When the waitress eventually came over we asked about vegetarian afternoon tea (as on the menu it stated it was an alternative to regular afternoon tea, and just to ask your server). The waitress told us that yes the afternoon tea is vegetarian friendly. And then brought us out a regular one with ham, chicken & salmon sandwiches! Fortunately my boyfriend eats fish but no check back was done despite us leaving a majority of the sandwiches. I think the waitress may have been new but it was a huge shame as our last visit was a lot better than this one. The attentiveness wasn’t there at all - for example we weren’t offered another drink until right at the end of our meal when we were meant to have unlimited tea/coffee. Really disappointed!

We had to visit this weekend given the shocking news in the press regarding the future of this chain. In spite of all the insecurity and anxiety, we were once again treated with warmth, kindness and professionalism and our brunches were delightful. So relieved for the staff that fingers crossed, things are going to be ok. Keep up the good work

This was my first visit and it was a delight. Beautiful coffee and a cake to die for. What a treat! It’s not surprising that all of the staff were smiling - it’s such a delightful experience!

Having heard good reports about this venue, I suggested to my family that I would like a visit to our local Southend branch to celebrate my birthday. The staff were polite and reasonably efficient, but very fond of making a loud din as they threw dirty crockery in the sink. Despite lots of colourful cakes and pastries being on display at the counter, the £25 for 2 fare was minimal, very bland, lacking in colour and quite boring. The sandwiches were tiny and the fillings unadventurous, the quiches were obviously of the bought in frozen variety (absolutely no flavour whatsoever) and the cream cakes and scones were squashed and very disappointing. I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed a good number of very nice cream teas in my time - this however was not one of them. Sadly, just another example of cheap and bought in, pre frozen cakes being sold at top prices by a nationwide chain. Will not be returning.

I recently purchased a Groupon voucher for "Afternoon Tea for 2" and went on a Saturday to redeem it (I know little wild) however seated us straight away!

We were very surprised with the afternoon tea. No need to book, sandwiches freshly made, although we requested no mayo it would have added to the flavour to use some butter. Cakes were fresh and tasty. Scones served with fresh cream and selection of jams. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Visited this place on Saturday 25th with 2 very excited kids who came from California. We walked into the cafe and the kids were checking what to pick as the cakes were very different to what they have in America. 2 obnoxious staff arrived immediately and giving us awful looks and talking between each other looking at us . We made sure the kids didn’t touch anything and constantly asked the kids to make a choice. I kindly told one of the staff when she asked if we would like to sit or to takeaway that we haven’t decided yet and is it ok if we take couple of min to choose. Imme one of the staff says there is a table service. Being polite to a customer is a basic thing to follow if u are fronting an office or a restaurant . I would have said something calmly and walked off but as I am with children, We calmly picked a couple of cup cakes and walked away. Worst place ever, will never go back again . Rude staff who doesn’t even know how to serve customers.

Our daughter treated us all to afternoon tea here and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Our waitress, Anna, made the experience so much more enjoyable too. She was friendly and helpful, explaining we could still order the afternoon tea for one extra (it comes for two) as there were three of us and offered to take photos for us of us all too.

This was one of our regular haunts in Southend after a brisk walk down the pier. Nothing better than a Chocolate mouse cake for Mrs Spaniel and Eggs Benedict for me. Sadly the mousse cake is gone and to be honest the other cakes all now have a slightly plastic mass produced feel to them. The Eggs Benny also seems to vary in size and care & attention (although there is always lots of bacon).

One of the best coffee shop in the town. So many lovely cakes and the price is really good for the quality. Was so difficult choose one so we shared each other the cakes! Finally we tried the smoothies Strawberry delight and Mango Dream, delicious. Next time we will try the breakfast. The service was spot on, Friendly. Is difficult getting better in Southend High Street ...

If you are a real cake addict then you will love this place, you only have to look at what is on display in their window & you will be hooked & will have to go in & select one or more of their sweet delights & thoroughly enjoy the experience !

Cant believe the prices they charge for cakes etc. The cakes are nothing special and I have had better at better prices. It is a typical chain set up overcharging for basic stuff

We live locally and have been to this branch of Patisserie Valerie a fair bit. My eldest daughter is a vegan, and there's not much on the menu for her, so we aren't that frequent now.

Just had the afternoon tea and can honestly say it was lovely. Our server was Anna who couldn’t do enough for us. Would recommend.

As a welcome repast, after our usual promenade walk from/to Leigh on Sea to Southend High Street we enjoyed the brilliant hospitality, at this well appointed Patisserie, that offers a summer specialty of English Cream Teas and appetising lemon cheesecake at a reasonable price.

Went in for cakes but had not realised they did a hot food menu. Decided to have a breakfast. Was very delicious and hot. Table service was excellent and very prompt. I had 2 slices of toast with 1 large mushroom and a small pot of beans, green tea and pure orange juice. My sister had eggs Benedict with the same drinks. Did think it was very pricey for what we had.. £27. Would not be someone I would venture into very often. Certainly not for breakfast even though tasty as just as nice in a few other places in southend at half the price.

Costly cafe the food always look better than it tastes with some of the cakes being very bland an boring.

Still sitting in here now, lovely decor, waitress is brilliant, very polite. Had the strawberry gateaux and tea and my other half had the ham and cheese croissant both absolutely delicious. Lovely little stop off down the high street. Also Seen the afternoon tea come out which looks very good.
