Patisserie Valerie in Winchester

Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else! The food was overpriced and underwhelming. As for the service, it can be best described as appalling.

Unfriendly and rather rude staff, we rather felt like an inconvenience. I had such high hopes but with rude staff, marginally above average food and dull surroundings we won’t be back. Overpriced and over-rated.

Very disappointed. We were visiting the Christmas market & wanted a coffee & cake before we started shopping. The Cafe was busy but quite a few empty tables that were not cleared. I went to the counter to order coffee & cake. I was ignored by the 4 people behind the counter, eventually someone looked at me I asked if there was a menu, no, only the food under the counter. There were no cakes so I just ordered coffee, no idea of the price as there was no menu/price list. The coffee came in a cup, no saucer, plonked on the table by a very bored waitress. The toilets were not in use apart from the disabled! I would not go again, or recommend. There are so many other lovely cafes in the area, we chose the wrong one.

I visited Patisserie Valerie in Winchester today with a friend to have one of their Afternoon Teas. The friendly staff soon had us sat down and pots of tea were quickly served. Our plate stand soon followed with tasty sandwiches, delicious scones with the necessary cream and jam plus some very naughty pieces of cake and a couple of macaroons. The plate looked exactly the same as their sign advertising their Afternoon Teas. Our waitress Maddy, very cheerfully and helpfully arranged another pot of tea to wash everything down. Maddy was very friendly and knowledgeable about the many cakes that were on offer and enquired whether everything was OK with our meal, which it was. My friend used the ladies toilet which she said was extremely suitable and found it clean to use. We can't wait for another excuse for having a meal here again.

After 35 mins wait for our afternoon tea we were told it was on its way and there was a sign on the door saying there may be up to a 30 mins late (we didn’t see it). 20 mins later I went back and again told it was on its way. Another 15 min wait .We waited a total 1 hour 5 mins and no apology given.

I've always wanted to try this place out and when my Mum said I could be her plus one for a Tea for Two that my son had got her for her Birthday I thought now's my chance! We arrived and there were a few spare Tables but all were covered in the previous Customer's leftovers. We got a Table and because we're not entitled I started clearing the Table and walked the plates and cups down to the ladies working there. I did two trips and passed them to them - not even a Thank you! I then, as no one appeared to be that bothered, asked for a cloth to clean the Table..I was told "hang on a minute". After a minute or so of waiting the young lady grabbed a cloth and spray and followed me to the Table to clean it. I wouldn't have minded doing it but I'll be honest I'd have been a bit taken aback if I'd been expected to (which was the way I thought it was going) as I was under the impression this wasn't a greasy spoon! Like I said not entitled, but I thought that would be pushing it a bit far. We were then served our Tea but waited another 25/30 mins for the food. Whilst we were waiting we witnessed one of the staff approach the Table behind us with a massive bag of salad leaves and at the Table put it onto the Customers plate as they had obviously missed it off previously. Doing it at the Table, in my opinion was a bit off. The plate should have been taken back to the Kitchen to do this. In addition there was an older lady trying to use the Toilets - they all have locks on with a code that needs to be put in. The code is out on the wall in the eating area...the poor lady couldn't remember the complicated code and also couldn't see the buttons to input the code in to get into the toilet. Surely a better system could be thought up here? A Member of staff did help her but not ideal. The food was nice but the sandwiches were underwhelming and had barely any filling in them. The plates and cutlery also looked dirty. We couldn't eat all of it and asked for a box to take the remaining cakes with us - this was provided quickly but it was like a Generation Game task trying to put the box together! I'm pleased we didn't pay the full whack for the experience and it was at my son's expense. I wouldn't go back...I have had better service and been in cleaner cheap cafes! Disappointing for what I always thought was meant to be a fancy Patisserie. It seems I've not been missing much!

Do not go here! Went for afternoon tea but the scones were burnt and inedible. Couldn’t even cut them so hard. Showed member of staff who said they were dry!! But she didn’t even apologise let alone try to help! Will never go there again

Popped in to this place as we unfortunately had a voucher from a well meaning friend for Afternoon Tea. We asked ‘staff’ if the voucher was transferable as we only wanted a quick coffee and a sandwich. Honestly, you’d have thought we had asked a question about quantum physics. The ‘staff’ initially didn’t know the answer, until one very rude guy in an apron said ‘afternoon tea voucher is ONLY for Afternoon Tea!’. Clearly the P&L is still running separate accounts and balance sheets. Customers who were sitting and waiting for food (no one was eating) looked up apologetically but equally grateful for the brief entertainment. One guy at a table said “you are lucky, it’s rubbish here” so maybe we escaped a tummy ache later on. Meanwhile, I need to use a voucher towards this failing chain…and next time ask for socks.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Tea good, sandwiches fresh with lots of filling, scones warm and crumbly, cake tasty. All served to us quickly and with a smile. They offered us a cake box for the cakes we were too full to eat. Toilets clean. Agree that the decor could be improved, which is why we marked a 4. Overall a big well done and thank you.

We came here for my Nans birthday for afternoon tea and had a great time. We were really looked after by a manger who was working away from his original cafe, to cover someone else at the Winchester branch. He really pulled out all the stops to make it a special afternoon.

The staff member who served us wasn't really listening as I had to correct the order and twice tell her where we were sitting (outside). The two Croque Monsieurs were very well done and the piece of blueberry and lemon cake was tasty but a bit squashed. I wish we had walked a bit further and used one of the independent cafes.

I was utterly shocked at the state of this place, especially for a central Winchester setting. I booked this through red letter days, expecting a decent cream tea for my nans birthday. Boy oh boy was i wrong. The place to start with was drab, dirty, looked like a school cafeteria. we had to wipe down a table for our self. Food was horrendous. Sandwiches were thin, lacking filling and flavour. quite frankly a boots meal deal would have been nicer and i have had children make better sandwiches. Stingy with the cakes, only gave us one full size slice and cut it in half. half the cream was missing off the top. 1 STALE profiterole each and the cream was hard. utterly disgusting. Other cake were obviously old as weren't holding shape and tasted dry. the scones, the bit my nan was most looking forward to were SOLID AS ROCKS. i could whack them on the side and not a crumb. i have no idea how this place is serving food. it is horrible. I am seeking compensation for this visit and would highly suggest you do not go here.

Awful. Really awful. I’m not one to leave negative reviews and have worked in the industry so I know the signs when a place isn’t run properly. I should have trusted my gut. Honestly I wish I hadn’t eaten it. Me and my wife aren’t feeling right this evening. Had an afternoon tea and the teapots were filthy, yellow stains on the milk pots, stale bread, cakes were soggy, profiteroles were stale. One sandwich seemed to just be lettuce which was also not in the best condition. On top of that the staff from the get go were pretty unprofessional. I’m not expecting to be treat like a prince or whatever, but they really didn’t care and made that abundantly obvious from the second we spoke to them. I really can’t stress the teapot thing. It was grim. If you can’t even be bothered to do pot wash properly what are you doing in a restaurant. Judging by the other reviews a lot of people are having the same experience. Avoid this place like the plague. No matter if they respond to any of these posts and apologise and give some spiel just do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Truly truly awful. Oh and the bathroom was a state. Water everywhere, pee stains all over the seat, no hand soap in the dispenser and a loose toilet roll sat on the side of the sink which was also very wet so the toilet roll was soggy. Honestly it’s as if every person working there either doesn’t care at all, or this is their first job and they’re really really bad at it. Really entry level stuff to keep your pots clean and have someone clean the toilet.

Came for a cream tea staff where helpful and friendly the cakes and scones where very nice arrived quickly and warm reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the toilet was pretty dirty could do with cleaning too to bottom

I cannot believe that this cafe is allowed to remain open! After reading other reviews it would seem that the management are doing nothing to improve it. Tables were not cleared and left dirty. Food was disappointing, some things were not available for Saturday lunch. Service was poor and unfriendly. Toilets were disgusting.

Arrived afternoon Sunday 27th Aug. The restaurant was mostly empty, yet every table was dirty. We stayed as previous experiences in patisserie Valerie elsewhere have been good, cleared a table ourselves and sat down. After a while, we went to the counter to order, and was curtly instructed to return to our table and wait for a waitress. The waitress eventually turned up, took our order, then returned 5 mins later telling us the order we had made was no longer in stock. We changed to a scone, to which again curtly informed this would cause a wait (she plainly didn’t want us to order this, presumably as it was effort for her). When she brought the food over, she placed the tray of hot drinks in east reach of our 10 month old, then reacted rudely when we moved it away from the baby. Awful experience, rude surly staff, filthy restaurant - we will not return, and would advise anyone else from going as well.

I visited this cafe with my son, the ladies were super friendly, inviting and accommodating. The minute you crossed the door you get greeted and feel welcome. The food was amazing, the sandwiches were generous in size and not to mention they very extra yummy and the coffee and hot chocolate were the right temperature - not boiling nor freezing cold. Definitely coming back as my son would like to try the passion fruit ice cream!

Five of us went to Patisserie Valerie for coffee and cakes. We had to wait a little while to be seated and served, but the service was friendly. Both the food and the service were good.

We were attracted to this place by the beautiful window display However once inside we had to wait a while to be shown a table. We didn't really like where we were sat (next to the toilet) so we asked if we could move which they said was fine. They did sanitise both tables I must admit. However once shown to the new table we waited a long time for our order to be taken. The time we waited to receive our order however felt like forever. Meanwhile one of the waitresses was clearing a table behind us. She was making such a noise dropping things constantly. It felt a very stressful place to sit. We never once had an apology for the wait. Our plates were taken away even though we hadn't finished our coffee. My friend went to use the disabled toilet where the hand dryer wasn't working. She reported this to the waitress and was told you need to hold your hands right under the machine. I think she knew whether or not whether the machine was working or not. One of the toilets was out of order and the other had a constant queue. When my friend went to pay the bill she asked if cash was acceptable. The waitress said you need to go to the front to pay cash. However another waitress took our cash and let us pay on the other till. When we left nobody acknowledged us. It just felt like they were trying to get as many people in to take money but there was absolutely no customer service. Disappointing as it isn't cheap and we were after a special experience.

Zero customer courtesy.Not a smile or a polite word from any of the staff.Waited 15 minutes for our drinks ( the pastries arrived quite promptly) and when I asked a member of staff if she could chase them up she mumbled something unintelligable and went off to take orders from other customers, essentially ignoring us.We got a basic apology from the only waitress who seemed to be serving, blaming the number of tickets, but there was hardly anyone in when we arrived.A prime position on Winchester High St but less than prime service and courtesy.

I ordered a ham and cheese baguette for my lunch. I waited for over an hour to receive my order, which looked like it had been thrown together. To be short: I have never seen a supermarket meal deal look as poorly put together as this baguette, which was 3 times the price.Also, as a nice little bonus, the waitress stank of cigarette smoke, and practically threw the bill at us.

The review is not for food or drink as I didn't get that far ! Person serving behind counter finally looked up and I asked if there was anything other than cake to have with coffee, her reply no we don't have a Chef .I said just a Cookie or similar, without looking up she said no .Most rude and unpleasant person and so unnecessary , Needless to say I didn't linger , never again !

Excellent service. Staff were friendly and efficient. Eggs were poached perfectly and arrived promptly. Delicious, thank you!

Visited on a Sunday initially just for a coffee but decided to have something to eat there as well. Not at all busy but we waited and waited for someone to acknowledge us then a very off waitress came and asked what we wanted……perhaps the menu might help! Food mediocre, my bagel was lovely and coffee was nice and hot but would have liked it to drink whilst waiting for the food. Husbands baguette was not nice soggy wet bread not the best. The atmosphere in the restaurant was dull and looked like another well known coffee chain, where dare I say has more character and does not costa so much! Would not rush back

we should of perhaps guessed as whole place only had 4 people in at 12.30!!we were told a waitress would come to give us table service, so we waited so longand had to go to desk and interupt waitress chatting to ask her to take our order.When the food came is was below average, in hindsight i would have bought a wrap from Pret or M&S for half the price and would have got excellent food! however the wrap and hot sandwich we ordered was terrible and very small with hardly any ingredients inside, very substandard indeed! We will not be visiting any time soon.

Down in the area for a birthday treat, started with Afternoon Tea here. The best we have ever had anywhere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cafe clean, on a whole an excellent experience.

We decided to use a cream tea voucher at lunch time and it worked perfectly. Outside table in the vibrant high street, tasteful music from busker over the road. And most importantly tasty sandwiches & cakes, tea/coffee with unlimited refill and friendly attentive service (manageress coincidentally with the name Valerie)

We enjoyed a full afternoon tea. All food was fresh and tasty. Great service from friendly staff. Bottomless tea pot and a box to take home what we could not eat. We will be back

We called in for tea and cake. We eat inside and it was near closing time. There a few cakes left and we choose a raspberry tart. The food was fine, service ok as we were the only customers inside.

The tables outside were really busy as it was a sunny weekend but we found one and were so pleased we did. The service was speedy and really friendly. We could see how hard the staff were working but they really made the effort to make us feel welcome and check we were happy. The cakes are amazing!!!

I have been to Patisserie Valerie In Winchester twice in recent weeks. On both occasions the service was very friendly & I didn't have to wait long for my drink & lunch to be served. Food & coffee were excellent. Lovely staff. I will be back! Thank you.

What a pleasant surprise to see my favourite patisserie being opened again after this long lockdown .And they ve upgraded their food menu AND brought back some old favorite cakes !!! I m so getting some carrot cakes and Madame Valerie caramel ones !!I really loved their Mediterranean wrap ! I can only warmly recommend as a vegetarian option!!

We stopped for tea and a cake yesterday. We sat outside in the sun. I was horrified to see the tiny tables crowded together. No space between them at all. Even in pre Covid days, they are far too close together! As I was with friends, I didn’t complain at the time, but wore my mask and couldn’t wait to leave. I felt very uncomfortable and vulnerable. Please forget about profit and put your customers safety first. Remove at least the tiny cramped table in the corner so that you can space the others out a bit more at least! I hope someone reads this, but I shall also be contacting your head office as it’s so important. I know outside is safer, but this was unacceptable even outside! Also , at only three thirty, there were only a few cakes available. Coffee was slurped all over the saucer and the toilets were not very clean.

No idea what the coffee and cakes are like. We wanted to try the vegan raw cakes. We were asked to take a seat. There were only two other tables with customers who had somehow managed to get served. One woman was stood at the counter on her phone. I think there was another one around somewhere. We waited. And we waited. But we were the only ones doing any waiting. We got up and left.

My Mum and I arrived for lunch (never eaten in here before but always see the cakes in the window which look lovely so thought we’d give it a try). Whilst we were sat down a member of staff had dropped a milk jug which subsequently sprayed all over the floor and on to another customers coat (accidents happen). It took 3 members of staff to clear the mess and cause more fuss about it than was needed, meaning the other customers, myself and my Mum included, had to watch the ordeal before our order was taken. After waiting a while our order was taken, we both ordered the breakfast. When the two breakfasts arrived, the ‘bacon’ looked anemic, the eggs were cold, as were the baked beans and the toast was still bread. The bacon tasted of ham rather than bacon. The two breakfasts were sent back and shortly returned which had obviously been microwaved (I had taken a bite out of a mushroom which returned with the same bite out of it) and the baked beans were congealed with a skin on top. The alleged toast was still bread and the ‘bacon’ was no hotter than before. They offered to change the breakfasts again for us but we’d given up hope and we had places to be before our car parking ran out. On top of this, a member of staff walked past us with a dirty plate in one hand which she’d obviously cleared, whilst texting on her phone in the other. Will definitely not be returning.

Had a lovely cream tea yesterday afternoon. Very reasonable at £7.95 for two and really tasty. So impressed with the waitress who was fantastic - really attentive and happy to help. A huge thank you as she even lent me her own phone charger as my battery was running low and I was waiting for an important call. So much appreciated.

We visited on a Saturday morning and the restaurant was full. 2 staff on the floor and doing their best but pressure starting to show. I ordered BLT which was really more of a bacon sandwich as 1 part of a lettuce leaf and 1 slice of tomato. The chips that came with it were burnt but cold. I asked to have them replaced and they did so. When returned it came with the comment "hopefully these will warmer"!!! Overall disappointing and for this standard expensive. Not reflective of visits to other outlets of the chain

My friend and I had pre paid for an afternoon tea via Groupon. We didn't need to book so turned up around 1.30pm on a Saturday. The cafe was half full so we were able to find a table and Sat down. W e were promptly served and gave our order. I asked for gluten free bread, however they didn't offer this - so be aware if you have a gluten allergy. We didn't wait very long for our drinks and food. Our waitress was attentive.My only negative moment would be the toilet doors as they were quite stiff and I'm not sure if they locked properly.Over all it was clean and the food was good.

I popped in here for quick refreshment and only then discovered it was a Patisserie Valerie ! Staff were cheerful and friendly, atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Excellent, strong decaf tea and very fresh delicious fruit scone. I was very pleasantly surprised !

Popped in here for lunch and it was very busy but the service wasn't great and a little slow. Food came out fairly fast but the toasted sandwich was rather well done and nothing special. Toilets weren't all that clean either.Had an OK lunch but was a little disappointing for a patisserie Valerie

We went there on a Friday afternoon/evening and a lovely waitress served us, was nice and quiet with a nice atmosphere, coffee and cakes were well deserved after a days sightseeing.We went back on Saturday afternoon after visiting the Christmas market and just WOW! The place was packed, and we felt sorry for the poor waitresses who were rushed off their feet!We had the same table and waitress, coffee again with some nice scones with jam and cream.Again, kudos to the waitresses for holding it all together!

We went in on a busy saturday when the xmas market was on every table was taken and when one became empty it was taken straight away so they were very very busy we were told before we ordered that it would take 10mins for drinks and 20mins for food so that was fine and our order turned up after about 20mins which was fine i did not have food but i eas told the food was really really good the only reason i have given an average score is because my coffee was not hot enough and this should not happen even when you are really really busy but saying that the staff were very good and the whole place was very clean and tidy.

No toilet loo no scones no sweetener would never return, first time in one, will never return to one again

After walking around Winchester seeing the sights like The Great Hall and poking around the many fine shops in town we stopped here for some cream tea. Very good service, good food selection, the place was neat and clean. Had a very good experience here.

Firstly when ordering the woman asked multiple times what we we would like as if she kept immediately forgetting.. then when the food was brought over they had forgotten my partners meal and when we said that we had ordered it they were oblivious to that order. After apologising they said they would bring the order over. Several minutes later the missing meal was received, however the chips were uncooked. We then had to ask for new chips. The chips received were still not nice. Whilst we were eating our meal an employee was carrying bins through the restaurant and he was then stopped by another member of staff for a chat and we were then left eating our meals next to a bloke with 2 smelly bin bags. This was not the experience that we expected and were left very disappointed.

Went for brunch on a Sunday morning, very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Special thanks to Valerie for her amazing personality! I will visit again.

We visited here on Saturday. Wow what a fab time, super food and super helpful staff. Had the full afternoon tea, really wonderful.

Tried the Full English Breakfast as a change from scones. Nice choice of seating options and obviously a lot quieter but not as cool as Soho's Patisserie Valerie. Fidelscastrol.

We visited Winchester on the 15th of Sept. and stopped at Patisserie Valerie.

Quick service, good light meals and cakes, friendly and approachable staff. Excellent location. Thoroughly recommended.

It was amazing food and drink the service was amazing from Alexa and we got cakes to take home too. Prefect place to meet up with friends and family. Child friendly too.

We were in Winchester and walked past window and see afternoon tea advertised. Honestly the service by a waitress called Valerie was amazing she was attentive asked about dietary needs went through options any special request and explained about bottomless coffee. The coffee was amazing and afternoon tea was lovely. Me and my partner couldn’t fault the service or food we had to go back and tip her. Would highly recommend and we will deffo be going back

Visited a year or so again and found the service to be poor. Yet again. Having waited ten minutes to even place an order for we walked out. It was not busy and there were staff wandering about. Indeed one waitress walked past our table twice ignoring us completely - and she wasn't serving!!!

We regularly visit the winchester branch, in the past it was great food and service, however over the past year it’s gone downhill completely. A couple of times now we have arrived to dirty tables (not just 1 or 2 but all of them in the cafe!), filthy toilets like they haven’t been cleaned all day, staff that look like they hate their job and nothing on the menu in stock! Today was no exception, once we found a table that we had to clean ourselves, a grumpy waitress greeted us and asked “what do you want” so we ordered a couple of cakes, 15 minutes later she returns saying they are out of stock!!! Nothing was said when we ordered or even just after she had checked with the kitchen. We found 1 cake in stock so had that, as the waitress delivered it, it fell over off the plate!! No apology and expected to scrape it off the table and eat it. Better table service in McDonalds! My husband went to take my daughter to the toilet, he couldn’t even go in it was so dirty. We paid up and left quickly, never to return again. On our way out we noticed empty cabinets, flies on cakes, cutlery all over the front table as you walk in, mirrors in their bubble wrap left leaning against a wall, it’s almost as if it’s been so understaffed and busy that no one has stopped to finish anything. Horrendous and won’t be back!

We were surprised to be able to get in on a Sunday morning visit, as usually, at this time of day it's quite crowded. We sat at a table, waiting - whilst there we noticed that there was only one member of staff, who looked totally fed up. We looked in the cabinet, to choose a cake, it was empty. We weren't there for long, so can't vote on speed of service, so will concentrate on appearance of the shop. It looked as though it was about to close down, and had no atmosphere at all. We live about 30 miles away from Winchester, and used to look forward to our visits here, with normally a fantastic choice & staff, who looked happy to work in this lovely shop. We left the shop, without purchase. As we left, we looked back in the window, and it had several wasps on the cakes. It made our start to the day a very sad one.

We didn't actually get through the door so put off were we by all the dead/dying wasps trapped between the poster and the window. Our gaze then was on other wasps crawling over the cakes in the window. The cakes I photographed were eventually moved from the window a while later so I guess my photography shamed the staff into actually doing something about the problem!!

Just ordered toast for a quick lunch. We went in, only 2 tables of people outside and 4 tables of people inside. We tried to order at the counter and they told us to take a seat and said they'd be right over. No one appeared anywhere near the tables for over 5 minutes, so my friend went to the counter and ordered. She had to repeat the order of 2 portions of toast and 2 glasses of water 3 times. More than 5 minutes passed and another server came to the table and said we had to give her our order or it wouldn't go through the till. This makes me wonder why the first person accepted our order. We then received slightly burnt toast, but it was lovely bread, quite quickly. The station that had the till in the back of the cafe was quite untidy and messy and there were lots of flies hovering in the cafe because the door was open and the air con off

We had a Groupon voucher for 2 people but my other daughter came too and they happily supplied a third plate. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were lovely and plenty for three. The service by the gentleman who kindly took this photo was exceptional, we will be back.

Patisserie Valarie has the ability to be amazing with its location. To eat outside you have to order at the counter, we got our food before the coffees and never received all our drinks! Very disappointing!

I have been to several patisserie valeries over the years but this one was far far from the best. We sat outside as it was a nice day, a waitress came past to drop off food at another table and from the banter and conversation I suspect they were staff, as she returned we asked if we had to order inside or if someone comes out, she pretty much ignored us so when she went to another table we called her over again, she told us that someone would come out. After 10 minutes of waiting my husband went inside to discover that you had to order inside as they were busy. It was a case of do we now order or just go somewhere else, as we had a table i went in to order, i pointed out that we had been told it was table service and the blonde eastern European lady was very apologetic and took my order, she also later offered us water for the dog as it was a hot day, all dealings we had with her, sadly i cant remember her name were fantastic, she is a credit to your company. If only some of the other staff were the same, one shoved past me as i was going out the door with not so much as an excuse me or sorry, the young girl who brought out our soggy sandwiches practically dumped them on the table then went to the aforementioned table to chat to her friends. all in all not the best experience.

We had walked for quite a way so we didn't mind indulging in some very nice cream cakes. The one my husband had ordered me was not suitable so the waitress changed it without any fuss. She fully understood the reason why I couldn't eat it. We had passed this restaurant when we got off the park and ride bus and decided that as a very special treat we would visit it on the way to catch the return bus, We were not disappointed.

Visited with friends for lunch. Most of us had quiche with salad which was very nice and well worth the money. One person had mashed advocado on bloomer bread with a poached egg and watercress. When it came it was two slices of normal white bread one was completely dry and the other has some avocado on it with a poached egg on top. There was no watercress and it was very disappointing.

We were served by a lovely young lady and enjoyed the advertised afternoon tea. We chose this for a lunchtime treat and was advertised inside the restaurant at £20 for two, we thought what great value. But alas on the bill £25.00? I politely disputed it but was told the head office had increased that morning! Remember to change your prices next time on the outside display board and the inside menus!

We’ve always been a fan of their afternoon tea and today didn’t disappoint. Fantastic service by our waitress (we should have asked for your name) and absolutely delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes. Proper tea brewed with tea leaves instead of the tea bags we often get in cafes today. We will be back!

I enjoyed a brunch and a breakfast here on consecutive days, a Sunday and Monday.

We had a wonderful time at Valerie. We had a cup of tea and snacks. Although the snacks weren't something special, it was nice enough. The waitress was very kind. We had to wait long for the order to come.

We love Pat Val - amazing cakes. Really pleased to see they are staying open. Best cakes on the High Street especially the strawberry mille-feuille !

4 of us popped in to have a cup of tea and snacks this afternoon. Stacie seemed to be the only member of staff on the floor and although she was clearly run off her feet still had a huge smile and was very welcoming. She provided great service which made our visit more enjoyable. Thank you!

Not sure how this place is still running, the service is just very poor and it's evident from all the reviews that the service is unfortunately consistently bad. I'm surprised the management hasn't changed anything, at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't last too much longer, what a shame!

Table service was efficient and the coffee were nice. We had 2 cakes (raspberry tart and a chocolate cake) which were both delicious! They also give 15% discount to nhs staff which is a bonus!

Excellent brunch with hot drink included. One of the best waiter services we have received due to his professionalism, friendliness and sense of humor.

Dropped in for coffee On a mid-morning Saturday, planning to sit in the restaurant. (All the good local independent coffee places were busy - should’ve known there was a reason this place had space.)

Popped in for coffee and cake during a cultural visit to Winchester. Had to wait 15 minutes for our drinks which were then delivered to another table till I said they were for us. Cakes didn’t arrive after another 10 minutes so departed. Manager waived the bill once I explained that we didn’t get our cake. However not a good impression of a location renowned for its speciality cakes which was the reason we visited in the first place!

There is no doubt that the staff here are extremely pleasant and well meaning. But the service is absolutely shambolic.

Just waited over 15 minutes to have our order taken and then over 20 minutes before cancelling coffees and leaving.......appalling service

We have visited this cafe in Winchester on 8th December.

Came with a family for coffe and some snacks. Choose from the menu some chicken for a kids, mozzarella baguette. Everything was wine,but......I choose hot chocolate brownie and.....it was horrible. It's was hard to cut, burn inside.

First of all you have to know that Pat Vals’ pasteies and cakes are reliably good and well worth sitting down for ... this morning we enjoyed an excellent Croissant and one of the best Almond Croissants I have enjoyed in quite a while ... crusted witl Almonds and oozing a Almondy Creme Patisserie filling .... washed down with a very nice Late

We stopped in for mid morning coffee and danish. Our waitress was cheerful and polite. Our danish fresh and delicious.

Visited busy Saturday with my daughter and 11 year old granddaughter. Had afternoon tea for 2 between us. Plenty of food absolutely brilliant. Even took home cakes as all full. Service amazing. Staff polite friendly even though rushed off their feet. Given FREE takeaway coffee on leaving. Can't wait to go again. Best£25.00 lunch for 3 ever. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Amazing lunch here today! Really surprised to read the negative reviews as we visited here today at lunch time, it was very very busy, but the staff were amazing, food fantastic, unlimited tea top ups and a free takeaway coffee! By far one of the best lunches we've ever eaten with the friendliest staff of anywhere we've visited! Seriously fantastic!!! Give them a chance and I hope you won't be disappointed!!

Busy Winchester but why disd we chose here.Half the order never ever turned up so we left.No apologies.We paid what we owed but the tills weren't working.

A lovely little cafe near the coach stopping point, unfortunately looks can be deceptive.

We are great fans of patisserie Valerie, but our experience at Winchester branch was a real disappointment.

Went in with my daughter and her friends plus two 2 year olds for a hot chocolate and pastry. Waited 10 mins to get our order taken. Then waited another 15 mins for it to arrive, by this time the little ones were getting restless. The drinks were luke warm and they had to be reminded about the cake/pastry. Not enough staff on as the people serving the take away trade were also doing drinks etc for people sitting inside. Toilets were dirty but had no choice but to use them as when a two year old wants to use the toilet they have to go! Complained to staff but just got a shrug of shoulders. Will not use again.

Popped into Peterborough for coffee didn’t expect somebody cleaning Toilets to come out not clean there hands and make my Coffee lwon’t be going back

We have been going to Patisserie Valerie since it opened in Winchester and have seen a dramatic improvement in it's management and customer service.

We were visiting Winchester to visit friends and found ourselves often walking past this shop. The only problem was that the wife couldn't walk past - she had to go in every time! In four days she must have visited 6 times! Her favourite were the eclairs. Apparently the coffee was very good as well!

I went with my son for a late lunch on a Thursday. It was around 2.30 and at the time there was only one other couple there. He ordered Eggs Royale and I a toasted sandwich which came with fries and we both ordered tea. The tea came almost immediately. After waiting about 20 minutes for the food I asked if it was coming soon. (My tea was now cold and although I had drunk some of it, when I have a sandwich I actually like to drink my tea at the same time.). The waitress said she would find out. After about another 5 minutes or so she arrived with the food. I said I hope that this has not been sitting there waiting for you to bring it. Oh no she said, the light to say it was ready only just flashed. By this time we were really hungry. I tasted a chip. It was luke warm. My sandwich was cold. I asked my son about his dish. He said his was cold. Eggs Royale are poached eggs on brioche bun with hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon. His favourite so he ate it. We had waited long enough. As we left we complained. The staff couldn’t have cared less! All we got was ‘sorry’. I certainly won’t go there again and I’ll be telling other people not to bother!

As walking through town, noticed this yammy cakes smiling to us through the window so decided to have a treat. Entered the shop happy as ever, we were served by Claire, not happy Claire, not smiling Claire, not patient Claire but Claire who rushed and were miserable. When placed an order we waited for short period of time but received our cracked and cappuccino instead of latte and when reported, we were told that we received what we ordered. We didn’t order cappuccino as we never drink cappuccino, always latte but Claire firmly repeated that this is what we ordered and left the table.

I was graduation day in Winchester, the place was heaving, and the staff run off their feet. They were so polite and obliging even though they were under such a strain

Came here for lunch with my fiancee. Service started off great, food and drinks order taken quickly, all arrived very quick. Fresh, hot and yummy. But then it got worse.

I remember when patisserie Valerie was the last word in elegance and style. A place to go for a treat. Two years ago, my daughters 18th birthday cake was from here. But it has deteriorated alarmingly. We had a ‘tea for two’ Gift voucher and arrived on a Saturday afternoon. We were directed to a table where we waited for 15 minutes and eventually. I had to ask someone to take our order. They were very disparaging when I asked if they would give my daughter a cold drink instead of tea nd said the only ‘free’ drinks were the hot ones. This was a gift token someone gave me as a gift - not a ‘freebie”. It took half an hour for afternoon tea to come although my cup of tea arrived well in advance, meaning I had nothing to drink with my tea. The sandwiches were awful, tatty and cold - clearly just out of the fridge.
