Patisserie Lewes is a lovely, small independant business. Great coffee, bread and cakes - and superb croissants.

The Patisserie—formerly at the top of Station Street—is a Lewes essential. Its current location doesn't have much seating but their pastries are really good, by far the best available in town.

Memo to self: Never again travel by train on Easter Saturday, in hot weather when the world and his wife is travelling with you and when there are engineering works everywhere, just to make it all so much more - er - "interesting". Yes, believe it or not, this is what we chose to do last weekend, instead of driving straight from Surrey to Sussex. We thought it would be less tiring! After a three-hour trip involving three changes, by the time we arrived at Lewes station, only one thought was on our minds: lunch! Not having visited the town for some years, we started to trek up the hill, keeping a beady eye out for any likely-looking places. At first glance, Patisserie Lewes appears quite small and, with its appetising-looking display of cakes, tarts and pastries in the window, it could easily fool you into thinking it is merely a bakery. But the magic word "Cafe" on their sign had us diving inside immediately. We sat in the lovely, calm and peaceful room at the back and finally started to relax. (There is additional seating outside in the small courtyard area.) It was just what we needed after our epic journey. In fact, it was difficult to winkle ourselves back out of our seats afterwards. Our sandwiches, cakes, fruit tarts and drinks were delicious and the staff were lovely. Lewes itself was as delightful and interesting as we had remembered. We will be back and, next time, whether by car or train, we now know to head straight for the very welcome refreshments at lovely Lewes Patisserie!

I have not visited the Patisserie for some time but very much enjoyed a lunch their last week feasting of the French cuisine pastries and cakes. Loverly atmosphere and friendly service all made completely by a beautiful art show by the talented artist Carol Anne Slater.

Popped in here the other day. Sat in their garden with a lovely warm quiche - they do have others. He had a sandwich and cake and we shared real tea. Garden a bit quirky, lovely service, nice staff. Always good to support local shops rather than the big chains.

A lovely place for good coffee and nice French patisserie. It's a small independent cafe and, when busy, can be a bit of a squash - but worth it. The croissants and little tarts are really fresh and tasty. Nice treat.

Popped in on my way to the station for a quick lunch. Wow, a tasty chicken, brie and cranberry sandwich on malted bread, with a smooth latte. The courtyard is such a great place to sit, sheltered and pleasant. I would have stayed longer and had one of the delicious looking pastries with a second coffee but needed to catch my train.

Patisserie Lewes is situated in a tiny period terrace on Station St. But don't let that deter you from entering as there as tables in the back room and a little sun terrace outside. The quality of the patisserie is excellent. We have a particular weakness for the raspberry custard tarts and lemon tarts whIcy are all very French. Triangular spinach and feta pastry and their coffee also excellent.

I've been here a couple of times whilst visiting Lewes. A real find as a tea shop. You order at the counter and there's a variety of different loose teas and coffees to choose from. as well as beautiful pastries including brioche and tarts. There's a hidden tearoom at the back. Free wifi is a bonus and it being so near the station if you have a spare half an hour before your train is really welcome. Enjoyed the raspberry and almond tart immensely.

First time visit to Le Patisserie , lots of delicious pastries and savouries to choose from that looked very fresh. Lots of choice of hot and cold drinks , I had a hot chocolate which was of good quality. It is a little cramped out the back but added to the charm and individuality , pictures for sale adorn the walls. A small patio out the back can be used on warmer days. Free WiFi for those working was a bonus and most unexpected.

Staff behind the shop counter friendly and happy to show you through to the back room with five or six tables, quaint rustic cottage style. Lovely place to stop for a coffee or tea and tasty snacks. But as same staff have to serve the passing trade for takeaway croissants etc. the service can be a little casual. (Perhaps avoid office lunch hour period if you are easily peeved?) I had tasty heated sausage rolls but had to ask for sauces but for what you get it seemed good value and nice place to meet and catch up with a couple of friends.

Most eateries in Lewes town centre on a Saturday at lunchtime seem to have queues waiting to get a table so we ended up walking back to this place that we had spotted on the way up from the station. We placed our order and then were about to be shown through to our table at the back when a customer came through and stood in our way for ages whilst he fumbled for his money to pay and then fumbled even longer to count his change and depart. The lady taking his money could have politely asked him to move on into the shop area so we could have gone through but obviously hadn't a clue how to deal with the situation. There was no apology afterwards either. The quiche when they arrived were lukewarm on the outside and stone cold in the middle. My wife sent hers back to be reheated but I was so hungry I couldn't be bothered to wait. The quiche was actually rather good apart from that. We had asked for three teas and were asked if we minded sharing one pot but the pot wasn't big enough and there was no extra hot water brought to the table so there was only enough for about four cups between us. The seating area is very bare and cold in appearance and really could do with some sprucing up. We won't be returning.

A little gem of a place. Small, cosy, friendly.. providing a comforting trip back to simpler, gentler times... and for me at least, a reminder of how things might be if it were not for the modern pervasive commercialism endlessly searching for the next micron of profit. The grub is good too, not made there but made by the best small baker in Sussex.

The Patisserie sells great bread, croissants, brioches, pastries, cakes and French desserts, mainly sourced from Cocoa in Brighton. There's a nice little tea room at the back, with a garden beyond with some tables outdoors. Both are quite small with only a few tables, but this is a good, usually quiet spot to have breakfast, lunch (they do very good sandwiches), or coffee. Service is always very friendly, fast and helpful. Very good value, too.

Sorry, bit of emperor's new clothes about this place. The baked patisserie goods are bussed in from the real patisserie in kemp town and then left in the window in the sun all day to go crispy. Savoury food is ok but don't make the mistake of ordering a coffee in this place. Ordered a flat white and was asked "how would you like it"? What do you reply to a question like that. Flat and white please. It was pretty undrinkable when it came. My girlf had a cappuccino and it was similarly awful. Admittedly these are very first world problems but worth flagging them up in case other good coffee lovers head there in search of a decent brew. Also heard someone order the most lewes drink whilst in there: earl grey with a splash of soya milk. Unreal.

To start with I must say the cakes are some of the best I have tasted anywhere. I had a "chocolate tart with hidden raspberries" and it was superb, I cannot remember which my partner had but she said that it was excellent. However it does let itself down a little elsewhere. Our savouries were very good but the salad accompaniment was unimaginative, which was disappointing as the rest of the food is so good. Also they are in a lovely old building but the interior could make more of it. I'm not saying it should be super modern or olde worlde (heaven forbid) but a bit more attention to décor and 'dressing' would not go amiss. Nevertheless if you are in Lewes you must head straight here.

This patisserie cafe really is the best place for lunch in Lewis. All the pastries are made locally by a French chef and the toasties are hand made by Carol to your own specification; for real treat try the brie and basil toastie in sour dough bread followed by carrot cake and coffee. Often there are exhibitions in the cafe by local artists and you can buy the work if you wish to.
