A very nice gastropub about 6-7 minutes walk from the High Street. We were three people and ate Sea Bass, Fish & Chips and Beef Burger. Cozy environment, good service and good food. Also affordable. The bill came to £60, including drinks.

Beautiful garden and friendly staff

Lovely place, away from the busy high street, with a relaxing garden. Staff were all super friendly and nice, and the sea bass was tasty and light. Definitely would recommend!

Fantastic old pub down the back streets of Canterbury. What a find! Worth every penny too. Staff were all brilliant and food was excellent So pleased to have found a pub without hoards of dogs running loose too. Keep it up!!

Came here for birthday celebrations. Service was really good and all staff were friendly. Bravo to the gentleman who took the plates all in one go! The crab cake type thing was delicious, the Yorkshire pudding and vegetables were delicious. The steak would have been rarer, but I think the type of meat used doesn't really allow for that to happen. Potatoes could have been roasted more. The desserts were really good, thoroughly enjoyed them! Would recommend and come again!

I've been in here few times. Never had the food but I've had some of the drinks in there. Not sure what the name of the seating area is. I like garden👍👍👍

Very cosy place with spectacular lunches!

I love this pub! We had dinner here this evening myself and my Mum and Dad (I’m over from Australia on a visit but I’ve been going to the Parrot for over twenty years on and off). We had a lovely evening there, the food, service and atmosphere were lovely. A good crowd in and mixture of people. The beer garden and tables inside are both lovely - the pub itself is very old (there are Roman walls just outside). The food was truly excellent, lovely menu - I had a wild boar ravioli pasta with pancetta and a mushroom and cream sauce. It was the best pasta dish I have ever had - delicious! The parents both had the beef shin pie with mash and veg. We also had starters, mushrooms and a prawn cocktail - delicious. A good selection of ciders and beers on tap. Staff including the manager Francis were very helpful - great service! Would highly recommend. Very well priced and exceptional standard of food!

A secluded garden, far enough from the bustling center, where to relish amazing locally-sourced plates surrounded by an historical suggesting context! One of the finest pub/restaurant by far.

A massive portion of the Chicken Sunday Roast!! But very good indeed. It was my first roast ever and I quite enjoyed it. Love the option of veggies on the side (and a lot of it). Do recommend.

Had the paté which was delicious - could have done with a few more bread pieces though. Parents and partner had the roasts, and they really enjoyed it. Ciders and beers were delicious.

Fantastic meal in a super cosy and atmospheric pub. I had an absolutely beautiful pie here for dinner - the staff were so attentive, friendly, welcoming and polite - would definitely come back here again, and recommend it to all!

Lovely hidden gem best beer garden in canterbury

I finally found "The Pub" in Canterbury. A little away from the tourist crowd, frequented by many locals, good beer and good food and a very warm welcome. Not to mention an authentically historic setting and a pleasant environment. What more !! Danny from Dunkirk.

Amazing period pub with nice food and good selection of drinks

Went with a group and didn’t have a say in the menu. Food was good, chips, chicken and multiple different sandwiches. Very good very nice!

Gorgeous old pub, lovely garden, nice fireplaces.

Main problem: I've got sick after Fish & Chips You have to look for the menu yourself, which is not very convenient. The Fish and Chips were quite tasty, but it was difficult to eat, and when I started feeling sick, it turned out that I had been poisoned by the food. This was quite a shame, because the place looked good and had local charm and good ratings. Also this is a nice local bar.

We fallen in love with this place and indeed we spent here all the dinners of our stay in Canterbury. The place is "old", warm and cozy. Like opening the door on the past, but a pleasant past. It is never too crowded, and privacy is maintained between adjacent tables. The food is very good, with also vg options. The staff is really nice and makes you feel welcome since the moment you set foot inside the door.

Quaint and cozy. Servers made thoughtful recommendations and provided professional service. Seafood linguine & burger were delicious! The onion rings & lemon merengue tart were perfection!

Really tasty food and a good bottle of wine. We will be back!

Delicious Sunday Roast with friends

The best Sunday Roast ever! Lovely.

A really lovely place to to chill and eat, good food at good prices. No photos of the food as we ate it all :-) Only 4 stars on the food because the steak was not quite up to the 5 star standard, not because of the cooking but because of the cut.. All food cooked perfectly with a traditional English desert menu. A well time team of staff who are polite, well presented, and well spoken and fine example of British food and dining

This is only my experience as others may have a better time. The Sunday lunch of beef potatoes and veg . The potatoes were hardandveg unimaginative. The waiter knocked drink over me did apologise but had to sit with wet patches all meal.the budding is delightfully old and characteristic very clean but Will not be returning .

Delicious Sunday Roast! The pork and the beef were tasty. I highly recommend the sourdough bread and the dessets were so delicious too. Coffee is not the best 🫣

My partner and I moved to Canterbury about a year ago. It was around then that we first visited The Parrot for a few drinks and bar snacks with some friends. We really liked it then and came back a few times during the summer, enjoying the lovely garden/terrace at the back. However, there was more! Last week, we returned with our in-laws for lunch and discovered the amazingly charming upstairs attic seating space (we had no clue), which is available only during lunch hours. We loved it so much that we came back a few days later. The food is very good, and the atmosphere is cosy and warm. The staff were really helpful and nice. It took us some time to discover this hidden gem in Canterbury, and we are looking forward to becoming more of a regular at The Parrot!

Good pub with a good garden and nice atmosphere. Food could do with some work and the burger in particular was really poor. The burger patty was bad quality and the lettuce and onion poorly prepared (it was like they had been cut with a dinner knife). Rest of the food seemed okay and the menu is pretty reasonably priced.

Another very good meal yesterday with very attentive and polite staff. I will keep going back with the trouble and strife

On the ONE spring day we've had so far we were lucky enough to be in the garden at The Parrot pub. Ace food. Don't go there please because it's for us to enjoy and us only. Far too exclusive and lovely for the likes of you. The Magnolia was out to perfection as well. A wonder in hiding. Let's keep schtum.

Great Sunday lunch & red wine !! Plus crumble & custard!

I absolutely loved Parrot. The atmosphere was homey and welcoming; you really felt like you could spend your weekend nights here. The Tudor style architecture made me feel like I wandered into a tavern in a fantasy setting like DnD or LOTR. The servers and bartenders were all nice and accommodating, especially Francis, and the food was phenomenal. I know the food is already going to be good when the menu is enticing enough that I want to order both a starter and a dessert. I had two different red wines, which were also top notch. I will definitely come here again on my next trip to Canterbury.

Very tasty and generous Sunday roast in a fabulous venue. Excellent Panko prawn starter too! Prices reasonable, ask to sit upstairs for a more roomy experience with vaulted Tudor ceilings.

We had a lovely Saturday lunch. It wasn’t too busy x but had a good atmosphere - wide choice including plenty of vegan dishes and specials. Brilliant value on the kids meals. All of our dishes were good, with a couple excellent (rarebit) and some slightly less (the polenta special) but overall a good find

Topclass and staff topclass a must to vist

It was a bloody freezing day so a pint and a seat by that beast of a wood burner was just what was needed.

Lovely old pub in Canterbury. The food is superb. I had the pie. Comes with seasonal veg and mash and a large pot of gravy. Really nice.

If you find yourself in Canterbury and are looking for a warm and welcoming traditional English pub with thoughtful food, even for vegans, definitely visit it. Tip! It would be good to make a reservation. Reasonable prices and don't forget to taste the local beer!

Only had snacks here, which were tasty but lovely to sit by the fire in this historic pub from 1300s and soak up the atmosphere.

Nasty. It is fine to be *not* a dog-friendly pub. But the staff attitude was extremely dismissive and derogatory.

An exceptionally nice pub. My wife and daughter visited this pub, we were seated near a roaring fire on a cold day warming us through just right. The food menu had lots of choices, my wife and I ordered the galf roast chicken Sunday lunch. It was cooked to perfection, my daughter irdered fish and chips which was equally as good. All in all a really nice visit where the staff on duty that day were kind, helpful and polite.

One of the oldest buildings in Canterbury (1930’s). This gastropub has AMAZING atmosphere and delicious food. We got the haddock fish and chips as well as the steak shin and bishops finger ale pie. Both very scrumptious and recommend! The pub is also very close to the cathedral which makes it a convenient location :) staff is friendly as well.

Called in for a quick pint. Lovely warm log burner. Pint was pretty good too! Cannot comment/rate the food as did not have any. Word of mouth tells me it is good!

Beautiful seating outside. Great food. The sea bass had nice crispy skin and a great porky sauce. The seafood risotto was loaded with seafood. I highly recommend this place! For the quality, the price is very affordable.

A must to experience in Canterbury

I brought some visiting American friends to the Parrot as they wanted to try an English pub meal on their last night in the UK. Got to say the pub smashed it. Food was absolutely delicious - we all had a lovely time - highly recommended

This place could get by off of historical appeal alone, but it actually has quite good food. Stopped in at noon when they opened for a meat pie and a pint of cider, and everything was quite good. Definitely worth a stop in just to see the interior.

Das Essen war gut. Leider mussten wir recht lange auf die Bedienung warten.

Food was lovely except I asked my waiter Keegan about the statrer I was looking at as it mentioned chillis, which I am allergic to. Does the dish have fresh chilli in it all as I can't eat fresh chili or is it dried chilli, which I am fine with. Leave it with me I will check with the kitchen. He came back said there are no fresh chilli in dish just a little spicy. So we ordered,the dish came up, I ate some of the food only to find there were fresh chilli in the dish. Thankfully I didn't eat any of the chilli. I brought it up with staff politely to be advised they would make staff aware. On bringing it up with the waiter i placed order with, before paying the bill, there was no apology and i was told it was "on me " as I didn't mention the word allergy. I am a very calm person, never quick to kick off especially as my son is a chef. All I wanted was an apology as I could have been very ill had I not noticed the chilli in the food. Absolutely disgusted with his attitude, arrogant and cocky . Had it been different this would not have been posted, all I wanted was a apology . I am 58 and never ever put a negative review for any restaurant, pub or hotel ever . Shows how upset I am when my son is in hospitality for me to say this 😪

Our first visit and we were quite impressed. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, good variety of beers and good service. Outside area to enjoy our drinks in the hot weather. Visited the medieval dining room upstairs, with its slanting floor and beans. Would promise a new dining experience.
