Acclaimed as the oldest pub in Canterbury, this is where you want to go if you'd like to simmer yourself in historical ambiance rather than the current football match. No DJs, no televisions, come here for the atmosphere and you can nearly imagine yourself as one of Chaucer's pilgrims huddled around the fireplace and biding their time with tales. Service here is understated and polite. Food is delicious. I strongly recommend the melted Camembert & bread appetizer. Their red pepper humus is nearly as good as my own. Plenty of local beers and cider on tap along with a small selection of liquors.

Extremely medium. Decor is nice inside, food was fine but not good. We ordered an extra £7 of chips because the menu incorrectly said the burgers didn't come with chips and then they did. So we over spent and had far too many chips! Very dissapointing experience.

We had a small lunch here on 3rd of May, shared a creamy woodland wild mushrooms, and a classic burger. The both dishes were so delicious. The burger meat was amazing, was not deep fried, oily beef, juicy, nice one, we really enjoyed. Even It was a busy bank holiday weekend with a nice weather, the staff were so attentive, we were served so quickly with big smiles.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at The Parrot in Canterbury a couple of times now. It's a really charming pub with a great atmosphere. We like a proper Sunday roast, and The Parrot definitely delivers. I had the roast beef, which was cooked perfectly, and my wife opted for the vegetarian roast, which she said was delicious. Both our roasts came with generous portions of crispy roast potatoes, a big Yorkshire pudding, and a medley of fresh vegetables. The gravy was really tasty, too – just what you want with a roast. What really impressed us was how accommodating and friendly they were with our son. He's a bit of a fussy eater, wont eat potatoes of any shape or kind, and even though it wasn't on the kids' menu they were happy to swap his potatoes for a big Yorkshire pudding. He was thrilled! It's little touches like that that make a big difference when you're eating out with kids. The staff were all really friendly and attentive, making us feel really welcome. I also love the story behind the name "The Parrot." Apparently, the building dates back to the 14th century and has had a few different names over the years. It's a nice touch that they've incorporated some of its history into the pub's identity. It also turns out that, until recently, the pub actually had a resident parrot who would often entertain the patrons! It really added to the quirky charm of the place. Overall, we had a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Parrot. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and it's a great place for families. We'll definitely be back! We came back, New menu but still delicious

The pub was recommended by the hotel clerk. The food was amazing. We had the steak with the pepper corn sauce along with the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The dessert was to die for. This is the oldest pub in the area. The manager let us go upstairs to look at the architecture. The Parrot was one of the best restaurants we found on our trip.

Lovely old pub, good beer, but a very odd idea of service - I ordered a salmon salad, was served makings of a salmon sandwich (salmon slice, bread, a few leaves and diced pickle) and, when I asked about salad was told that I was given a starter, to be fair. Beware of ordering a burger - you may get fish and chips - it is a main, to be fair!

Charming Historic Pub with Fantastic Flavors The Parrot Pub, a Canterbury icon, delivers a brilliant mix of history, hearty food, and warm hospitality. The Scotch eggs were a crispy, savory start, followed by a juicy beef burger and the standout Chicken Whitstable Pie - creamy, comforting, and wrapped in flaky pastry, of course, cannot forget to mention the yummy gravy they had. Paired with a rich Whitstable Bay Black Stout, beautiful dinner! Staff were welcoming, super-helpful, and full of energy, even during the busy rush. The lively, historic vibe—packed but cozy—added to the charm. With affordable prices and top-notch quality, it’s a must-visit. I’ll be back! 🍻

Back to The Parrot - Still Awesome! Went back to The Parrot after ages and it was just as good as I remembered, maybe even better! Really great vibe, super friendly staff, and they really know their stuff. Service was spot on, made the whole thing a brilliant experience. This place is legendary, no doubt about it. Makes you wonder who's been through those doors! I swear I nearly saw the Kardashians there (maybe not!). Heard a rumour Coldplay recorded their first album there too - pretty cool, right? The Parrot has something special, that's for sure. The "manic cellar" is a bit of a laugh, definitely worth checking out. Basically, if you're ever near The Parrot, go! Great atmosphere, history, and the staff are fantastic. I won't be leaving it so long next time!

Had a delightful experience at The Parrot. We arrived around 5:30 pm and were greeted with warm, attentive service from Victoria and Jo. The goat's cheese burger was spotless and the haddock and chips are very generous! Also paired with the great roasted tomato soup that went very well on a cold night. To finish, the double chocolate brownie was simply divine—rich, gooey, and the ideal sweet treat to end the night. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend!

Fabulous meal at the Parrot - booked having trouble to decide where to go and chose here more by luck having decided against a few trips further afield - so glad we did, everyone happy and one of the best meals had in a long time. The pie is a proper pie, the veg was fresh and perfectly cooked - starters had some fabulous options and quite simply couldn't fault. Coupled with great service we will definitely be back - it's slightly off the beaten track in Canterbury but really worth it and can highly recommend.

The crab cake type thing was delicious, the Yorkshire pudding and vegetables were delicious. The steak would have been rarer, but I think the type of meat used doesn't really allow for that to happen. Potatoes could have been roasted more. The desserts were really good, thoroughly enjoyed them! Would recommend and come again!

I love this pub! We had dinner here this evening myself and my Mum and Dad (I’m over from Australia on a visit but I’ve been going to the Parrot for over twenty years on and off). We had a lovely evening there, the food, service and atmosphere were lovely. A good crowd in and mixture of people. The beer garden and tables inside are both lovely - the pub itself is very old (there are Roman walls just outside). The food was truly excellent, lovely menu - I had a wild boar ravioli pasta with pancetta and a mushroom and cream sauce. It was the best pasta dish I have ever had - delicious! The parents both had the beef shin pie with mash and veg. We also had starters, mushrooms and a prawn cocktail - delicious. A good selection of ciders and beers on tap. Staff including the manager Francis were very helpful - great service! Would highly recommend. Very well priced and exceptional standard of food!

Main problem: I've got sick after Fish & Chips You have to look for the menu yourself, which is not very convenient. The Fish and Chips were quite tasty, but it was difficult to eat, and when I started feeling sick, it turned out that I had been poisoned by the food. This was quite a shame, because the place looked good and had local charm and good ratings. Also this is a nice local bar.

Definitely a busy place. When we got there, only a handle of seats was available and they were all taken. We ordered takeout. We just needed to tell what we wanted to the staff with our names. When the food is ready, your name would be shouted out. Price is ok compared to other oysters 🦪 shops around. We found the deep fried oysters were quite interesting. The raw ones were fresh, no incidents afterwards.

Arrived to a very loud and noisy bar to find out our table was next to the door, across from the bar and next to noisy drinkers. We waited 15 mins for a drink although the drinkers at the bar where served ahead of our drinks order.....we knew then we had made a mistake! The food was excellent we both cleared our plate but atmosphere, service and attention to detail was lacking. Would not return in the immediate future.
