Coal Drops Yard is a 5/10 min walk from Kings Cross & well worth a visit for shops & eateries such as Parrillan. The grill option was fun! Restaurant cosy, or on terraces. Staff & service exceptional!

What utter rubbish! Saw this restaurant on TikTok with a wonderful selection of seafood cooking at your table. Lobster, huge prawns,scallops... what we actually got was mackerel, mussels, tiny scallops and three prawns for four of us. The whole place stinks of cooking, my clothes smelled when I left. Really expensive. Crab croquettes were nice and so was the cheese but we went home and had dinner.

The restaurant is in a fantastic location with terrific views. The alfresco was great for lunch in August but not too sure about October! The service was fantastic and our server, a good looking black guy, did a fabulous job particularly with my grandkids. The food itself was delicious and the kids enjoyed cooking the meat on the table grill (both over 10 years old!). It was expensive, particularly for a lunch but I have to say worth it for the memory.

Was disappointed. Basically as a lot of the other reviews say, the food is expensive for small portions; a tuna stick which had 4 cubes of tuna on was £16! The service was very slow and this wasn't taken in to consideration when we were barked at to vacate the table, still with drinks. We had to ask to order food and the gap between the starters and the main was very long and we had to chase for that even though others were receiving theirs before us, having been seated after. The smoke is annoying, especially when the restaurant gets busy. We noticed a waiter helping a table of young ladies next to us with the cooking, we asked the same and he said they don't help with cooking and walked off. I wouldn't return, bit of a novelty restaurant to be honest. The quality of the food was nice but over priced. Stick with their sister restaurant next door, much nicer and the food is cooked for you.

Greeted at the door (I was slightly early) with a demand for the table back after an hour and a half. Tiny portions, atrocious service, overpriced. The whole place is full of smoke as diners burn their own food. A poor experience. Won’t return, although the sister restaurant next door is excellent.

My wife and I went to Parrillan recently for lunch. It was a very fun experience. I have not been able to grill since living in London for last 18 months and this experience helped me fill that gap. We started with tomate bread - yum and croquettes. Then had sirlion and veggies and that is when the grilling started. Excellent service and fun to sit outside in nice summer weather. Prices are little high. We will be back.

Very small portions. Im paying to cook , get smoke on my face for 45min , from my table and the next and leave with a stench of smoke and intoxicated. Worse than smoking a pack of cigarattes. Overall a very pretentious place, a no go for sure.

Eating in a restaurant is a treat. What I don't want to do is cook my own lunch and then pay for the privilege! The plate of vegetables in the photo below cost nearly £16 - half an onion, half a mushroom, three sprigs of broccoli, two pieces of pepper and some courgette. To our surprise a grille was placed on our small table with the instruction that we were to cook it! We were glad we didn't order a side salad as we would probably have been expected to forage for it! The restaurant is in a nice setting but we left hungry, stinking of smoke and considerably poorer. I don't usually write poor reviews, but the experience was awful... never again.

Been here many times but this time was very very disappointing. Poor service. Had to send potatoes back as undercooked and cold. Asked to leave our table after 1 hr 20 of our 2 hour slot. Will not return.

A great experience - quite a quirky concept but it works extremely well. Sacha our waitress was extraordinarily attentive, utterly charming and very patient with our lively table! The food and service were excellent. Will definitely return. Felt all rather Mediterranean in the middle of King’s Cross!

Found this restaurant just off Borough market on a busy Saturday afternoon and thought it looked good. No tables available outside although some were empty and we were ushered inside. On the whole the food was good. We ordered the grilled prawns as part of our sharing starters but were told we could only have them on the terrace ! Strange as the table next to us had them but the waiter told us that one of them worked there so was allowed to have them. We spent £350 for 5 people with 2 bottles of wine. However our table was very wobbly and my glass fell and the waiter was quick to clear the mess but didn’t offer a small glass of wine to replace it. He did acknowledge the wobbly table. I know lots of local restaurants that wouldn’t have hesitated and replaced that wine.

We had booked the outside terrace and the weather was unseasonably cold and wet. The staff went to great lengths to keep us warm with chair heaters and blankets and bring a grill to the table to warm us up. The food was great and we enjoyed grilling it at the table . Staff were lovely and very helpful. Thank you for turning around an unpromising situation!

Glad we visited for an impromptu meal & some drinks, but as most of the reviews have said, the price to portion ratio isn't the best. £17 for two lamb skewers, £39 for the cheapest bottle of wine and the bill really starts to creep up. However, the quality of the food was superb and everything we ate was delicious. The grill at the table is a novel way of dining if you're into that kind of thing. Just don't take your eyes off of it otherwise your food will burn! Will definitely visit again in the summer for some drinks as the vibe around the area is brilliant.

We are huge fans of “ Barra Fina” so we decided to try Parrillan. The portions were ridiculous small and it wasn’t as tasty as should be for the restaurant prize. I’m more than happy to spend money on a good Spanish restaurant in central London ,but as I said on a good one. The only worth plates were the desserts, normal portions and tasty. Service wasn’t good neither, they took the plates away when we weren’t finish and suggested a couple of times to take last bits away so they could take the playe away. They were constantly cleaning around us (mop included).

Been here twice before and found it amazing. Since lockdown it has sadly gone downhill. The most astonishing reduction in portion size across everything - only got 2 sardines, tiny piece of monkfish, pork consisted of 4 small bits. One tiny scoop of sorbet for pudding - all so very different from my memories. The only thing that was acceptable was the cheesecake! We were a large group and we all left feeling very short changed. Also didn’t appreciate the wine recommendation of a £87 bottle that was on discount so a magnum would only be £140!!! Wondered if this place has changed owners? Won’t be heading back there.

The menu was unclear with only weird names. When we asked waiter about more explanation, we were not informed that was very spaicy. In that spicy chiken Paela, you could not find any chicken except a tiny chicken wing anf 2 small pieces susages. It was disappointed.

They have a policy of no kids allowed due to health risk of the grilling! Does this policy really exist!? They asked us to leave because of my child and happened at 7pm! Not worth going

Came here with some friends. Really lovely food. The best dish for me was “Pan con Tomate” and “baby gem & anchovies”. The service was helpful and very nice, just a bit slow at times. I would like to go back. General: 8/10

Lovely outside patio setting, big parasols, excellent service. However, food disappointing. Small portions and over priced, the pulled pork pate was a blob of pork fat with a few bits of meat buried inside. Lamb skewer great flavour but 6 small pieces for £18. Food swimming in oil. Would have a drink here but definitely not eat.

Although the food looks amazing it doesn’t taste anything like that. As much as I wanted to like it, I just couldn’t as it lacked any seasoning and was simply just bland. On top of that, squid was very chewy and my friend burned herself on the grill that was brought to us with our prawn dish. As much as I love the idea of cooking things yourself at the table that just doesn’t seem right. The grill is way too big and is placed in the middle of the table which definitely makes interacting with your friends harder. The only good thing about this place is service as our waitress Teresa was very attentive and knowledgeable. Thank you Teresa and sorry for a bad review

I came to Trip Advisor to read other reviews because as we really liked this restaurant, there were aspects which made us feel it could do better . Firstly the food was excellent, and the idea of grilling at the table was a good one which we enjoyed. But the staff were almost disinterested in us at first. The greeter at the door looked at us as though we'd appreared from Mars when we asked if they had a table. There were plenty of tables available. She then asked for my name and phone number, then asked us to wait while she checked with someone. She then showed us to a table but didnt offer us any drinks or explained the menu. A very nice waiter then came and did explain the menu, and suggested dishes for us to try. We asked for 2 beers and the waiter took the order then wandered off for 5 minutes and served other tables before he came back with them But we found the food very good value with 2 grills and a starter and 4 beers coming to £79 including service so relatively cheap for Coal Drops Yard. The outside ambience was lovely with plants all around and a view of the canal, but we won't be returning as we were made to feel unwelcome here. We may try their sister branch at London Bridge which appears to have friendlier service.

We had anticipated something aligned to Barrafina but the food wasn’t good on the night. Mussels were over cooked and drowned in sherry vinegar, it really felt like this was a genuine mistake in preparation as the level of vinegar was really too much. Unfortunately our side dishes lacked seasoning and flavour and the whole experience was disappointing.

The lagarto ibérico I had here still haunts my dreams. It was DIVINE. I got a side of potatoes to go with it and they were very tasty as well. Absolutely no complaints.

The most satisfying meal I have had since coming to the UK. The fried rice was delicious and the tom yum soup was delicious. But is the soup with 4 shrimps priced at 8 pounds too expensive? Not counting the 10% service charge, but overall it’s still delicious.

I’m shocked to discover that this place has been open on my doorstep for a quarter of a century and I’ve only just discovered it. The important bit: you won’t find a better steak at a better price. Or a better steak full stop. Hamid and Sirous (manager and proprietor) can advise you what to order. I’ve forgotten our starters (they were good) because the steak is the story. The côte de boeuf we shared was cooked to perfection and large enough to satisfy three healthy appetites coming as it did with salad and fries. Another thing: the wine list. No wine was over £35. The excellent Côtes du Rhône that we had was only £30, a price that justified a second bottle. The dessert menu is limited but that doesn’t matter as diners are unlikely to have any appetite left after the steak. Service was superb. An excellent experience in every way.
