An all round excellent meal with great and humorous service in front of a roaring log fire. Some excellent grouse and partridge and as always the pies were very good although being really picky a little more filling would have gone down even better. I know its sacrilege to critique those world famous pies but as we keep returning we had to find something that was not perfect!

Great country inn near Clitheroe with an interesting menu focused on the use of local produce. I've been here many times and always had a lovely meal. The cooking is great. There's a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and well behaved dogs are welcome too. Local beers on hand pump. Highly recommended.

Took the family out for lunch yesterday. We selected the 'snack menu', and had chinese chicken wings, spicy lamb on sourdough, cod cheeks with fries, and afterwards coffee and cheesecake. The drinks chosen were various wines, beer and soft drinks. Everything we ate was excellent locally sourced produce. Good service and great atmosphere with open fires.

I booked lunch here after happening upon an article which said it had been voted best pub bistro in the Uk. It was a near two hour drive, and a minimum £50 per person for lunch but I figured it’d be a treat worth the money/effort. It wasn’t. On arrival, I was hit by the aroma of damp walls. There was one other couple already in the dining room and we were seated next to them… so close we could hear each other’s whispered conversations . Ambient music would have helped. My other half ordered the giant prawns to start (£15 supplement). Three prawns, shell on, that produced no more than a single mouthful of meat. The effort was not worth the meagre reward. (Please say on menus if food includes bones or shells). My starter was potted beef. 10/10 for the pickles, 5/10 for the beef (boring and bland). OH had the pie main course which he enjoyed. My lamb shank was well cooked but came in a briny, watery gravy in a small bowl which made it awkward to get at. Accompanying mash was delicious but served in a soufflé style bowl with a big crack in it. I pointed it out but waitress merely said she’d tell ‘them’. I ordered the cheese plate (v small and can’t understand why it required a £5 supplement). Altogether, final bill came to just under £150. The host was welcoming and friendly, the service good. We won’t be returning and would not recommend. Perhaps we were unlucky and picked the wrong things but for that price, not worth the time and effort.

Wow!! I treated my hubby to dinner here tonight and it didn't disappoint. This was both of our first visit. We were the first people to arrive for tonight's dinner service. We were warmly greeted by the owner who showed us to our table. We had the tomato and mackerel for starters which were beautiful in presentation and taste. We then ordered the meat pie and the cheese pie. I had read the reviews which all said the pies were amazing. My hubby's meat pie was the special curried mutton which he said was probably the best pie he's ever had. My hubby's a Yorkshire man so he knows his pies😀. Again beautifully presented. My pie was so yummy. The pastry was so soft and the cheese and potato were beautiful. The fries with the pie were so good. We then ordered the rice pudding and chocolate mousse. I had the mousse....oh my God if you love chocolate and mousse you'll love this as much as I did. I even half jokingly asked the owner if I could have another to take home it was that good. The service was impeccable, food outstanding and presentation 10/10. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.

I have been coming here for over 5 years now. 2-3 times a year and never, ever been disappointed with the food. As others have said, the pies are amazing, especially the curried Mutton one which I must have eaten at least 4 times. Today (20th July) was the first time we have come when lobster was on the menu, so had to go for that (sorry pie, next time) and it was fantastic. Opted to have the fries but in hindsight, the rice may have been a better option to mop up the bisque. The snacks and starters were fresh and seasonal and the plum tart was again very tasty. It is a trek but well worth it. After lunch, we wanted to go for a walk and AJ mentioned there was a c45m walking trail nearby, so we went on that, meant walking thru fields of sheep and lambs, even a few running grouse were seen, Quite an easy trail, There is a map at the start, so take a picture to help you with your bearings. See you next time :)

One star is generous. I would give zero if I could. Worst meal I have ever paid for. Food inedible and appalling service. The staff seemed so unhappy and completely unsurprised I left over half of my main course. Food all tasted like cheap frozen ingredients which had been reheated (and not even well). Honestly we were so excited to try this place after reading other reviews / ratings but it was just so disappointing. Please don’t waste your time or money.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had whilst eating out. The food was utterly appalling. The cauliflower main, which tasted and smelt of bleach, was particularly bad. The lobster starter was also extremely disappointing. The food was obviously frozen and not prepared fresh. The accompanying vegetable salad resembled that you would get with a samosa when ordering an Indian takeaway! We were required to pre order and pre pay for our entire 3 course meal, which was £60 per person. The chef was extremely rude in her email correspondence whilst facilitating this. Ironically, the menu wasn’t even the same as that provided at the time of pre-booking. Those who pre-ordered pavlova instead got cheesecake, without any apology or explanation. We were also told that the restaurant had run out of chips for the children’s menu. I could understand this if they were fresh homemade chunky chips, but the fries that did in fact arrive with the main course were frozen ovens fries. The service was very poor also. We had to wait 20 minutes for our initial drinks order to be taken and then our second round of drinks, which was placed as our starters were being cleared away, arrived after our mains were being cleared. We weren’t offered a drinks menu/ wine menu on arrival. We had to walk to the bar to get one. The mains came to the table whilst our starter plates were still not cleared and we weren’t brought any cutlery for the main course. It will only be a matter of time before this place closes down unless it drastically improves. To say this establishment has been featured in the Top 50 Gastropubs in the UK really does bring such accolades into disrepute and undermines the efforts of much better restaurants lacking such fanfare. All in all an extremely disappointing Mother’s Day meal. One in which people were putting the food aside to keep for the dog. He probably won’t like it either.

Awful booking platform and terrible customer service. Being a "small business" is no excuse. You either care for your customers and want to help, or you dont, and this lot clearly dont care about their customers. Cant edit or cancel bookings yet are charged for it at the start, and there is no telephone number to speak to anyone, and they are overly defensive and rude when eventually replying. Genuinely bad vibes from this pretentious bunch. Too many other lovely food places in the Ribble Valley who do care and provide lovely customer service, where I will be spending my money in the future.

After such great reviews I had high hopes for eating here, sorry but have to write how we experienced it. Arrived for 18:30 table to freezing cold restaurant granted there was a big fire on but we were sat other end of pub where we weren’t in line with fire, there was just 2 tables of 2 where we were and one of the seats was a small bench seat so for someone like me who is tall it was so un comfy and we were also opposite the bright lit bar so as the place filled up it got cozier and buzzier when you looked to left with dim lighting we were totally out of the atmosphere. Non refundable deposit had been taken which you are aware of before you arrive, I did think what if you have to cancel for illness, but we went with it after the great reviews. To be honest if I hadn’t paid this I would have seen my table, coldness and choices on the menu I would politely declined and left. Starters were nice and bread was best thing, mains my husband had pheasant pie which had funny bits of meat which he left on side of plate, I had cheese pie which was stodgy and bland, it came with tiny pot of sauce that had no flavour and chips were incredibly salty. We left some and when the young waitress asked how our food was we said ok, she saw what we had left and she put her head down and quickly walked away. Desert choc mousse was good, my rice pudding soufflé was again bland and you got a teaspoon of rhubarb ice cream to go with it. This pub has a lot of regulars as we could tell, if you weren’t you were asked ‘you come far today’ booming across the bar, even my husbands Guinness didn’t taste right, all in all not a great night and feel we were ripped off for what we paid, sorry I really don’t enjoy writing negative reviews but feel I needed to on this one

I can highly recommend the Parkers Arms for anyone who enjoys seasonal produce cooked to perfection. We booked on a whim to go for dinner on the same day and so I cannot comment on the local area too much as we travelled in the dark. I can say, however, that we were greeted warmly by the proprietor and very much enjoyed the Sloe Gin Fizz and Bramble Crush cocktails. We had some Piri Piri Pork Puffs to whet out appetites and were then walked through the menu for the evening. The three-course menu has excellent choice - I would happily have ordered everything on it! We ordered lobster bisque with charcoal cod, and a lentil cream for my better half - both starters served with some lovely fresh sourdough bread and a pesto/herb oil (I think). For main we both opted for venison loin, beautifully pink, with a deliciously rich, savoury and slightly sweet sauce, a wonderfully earthy mushroom puree, wilted cavolo nero and an exquisite parcel of venison in hot water pastry - it’s not surprising the pies served here are very highly regarded (one for next time). Apple strudel with a Seville marmalade cream and a chocolate delice for dessert. Excellent food, attentive service, a warm and friendly front of house and lovely company. Definitely worth a visit.

Just had a wonderful meal with family at The Parkers. We went for a mixture of starters including a Lobster bisque, which was full of flavour. The venison pie with a red wine gravy was delicious, the pie full of meat and the pastry probably the best I've had. Feeling sufficiently fed, I did manage to find some space for a bit of strudel. The cooking of every course was perfect, the food had great flavours and the restaurant was warm and welcoming. Great staff, who looked after all our needs. 10 out of 10 all round. Worth the trip to Newton on Bowland.

I have been so excited about trying the Parkers Arms but, living in Southend and paying infrequent to see family in Lancashire, I just haven't had the chance. It's my brother's favourite ever place and so this weekend the stars aligned and I got the chance to go with my brother and his wife. The menu had a range of choices and in all honesty it was a challenge to choose what to have. We shared some very light and crispy piri piri puffs before my starter of Cornish anchovies Boquerones style arrived. The combination of the anchovy with the orange and parsley was sublime and I mopped up the oil with the delicious bread that's provided with the three course set menu. Choosing a main was even harder, with my brother and his wife each recommending a different pie from the menu. However turbot is one of my favourite fishes and so I couldn't resist ordering it. Beautifully charcoal grilled and served with a delicious parsley and lemon dressing, it was the nicest piece of fish I'd ever eaten. It had been charcoal grilled so delicately that it just fell of the bone and had the most beautiful smoky flavour. The dessert of baked chocolate mousse was equally sublime and all in all the meal lived up to what were very high expectations. My only disappointment is that I didn't try one of the pies, but that just means I will have to go back! Living in Southend and eating out a lot in London, this meal represented outstanding value and you can see how much love and attention goes in to the cooking here. Brilliant.

Valentines Meal at The Parkers Arms The Place Welcomed into the bar area, then we were told we were early, which I acknowledged and apologised for (arrived at 18:10, reservation time 19:00). However, we had a table and said we were happy to just have a drink and chat until the correct time of the booking. It did feel a little strained and the Chef did come out to look at us and tell us that we had "set her back"? Around 18:50, what I assume was the 19:00 crowd, came in and sat in a room adjacent to the bar. Around that time, the chef came out again to tell us that our food was "on the way". At approximately 7:15 our starters came out, see below for that review. We then waited, and waited, and waited. We watched as the other seven o’clockers had their main course and deserts. Not sure when our main course came out, sometime after 20:15, see below for that review. Eventually my desert came out, just as the other seven o’clockers were leaving. After the desert, we left, and I must say there was a slightly sarcastic comment from the barman, that we chose to ignore. The place is okay, but where we sat the seats adjacent to the window are really uncomfortable and you could only perch on the edge. Also, the decor is tired. The Food First course My wife had the citrus cured organic salmon which she really enjoyed. I had the lightly smoked 5 spice wild duck breast which I found tough and tasteless, so much so that I left over half of it. Second course We had the charcoal grilled 60-day aged fillet, I struggled to see how it was charcoal grilled as both faces had no sign of heat and were in fact pink. It looked to me like the fillet had been cooked as a piece and then sliced into portions. The crispy potato terrine wasn’t that nice, the ultra thin wafers of potato proved quite sharp when trying to eat them. Dessert I had the Yorkshire rhubarb and white chocolate parfait, which unfortunately came out frozen solid. After 15 minutes of careful dissection, I did manage to taste a morsel and decided it wasn’t worth the wrestling, at which point we paid and went home. Summing up This was our second visit to The Parkers Arms, the first one was underwhelming, but on the back of its recent award, we felt it deserved a second visit. On reflection, we should have gone with our original thought, i.e. never again. Although surprising to me, I now realise that the number one gastropub is not given to the pub that cooks the best food, in this case far from it, and I would love to see the scoring system. As far as I am concerned, the food is mediocre, the décor dull and dated and the service slow and curt. How it beats the Freemasons at Wiswell, or the Three Fishes at Mitton is beyond me, both are simply so much better in every culinary category to The Parkers Arms.

We have been meaning to try this place for a long time and I am delighted we got there today. Top quality ingredients handled with care. Every element was perfectly cooked for top flavour and every mouthful was fabulous. We both had the Pumpkin Cream, Crab starter. Delicious pumpkin base with a punch of citrus to balance a generous helping of sweet crab. topped with the crunch of a poppadom type crab crisp for a touch of texture. A top draw piece of cookery. Main course I had the Pheasant pie and my wife the Pork Cheek. Each as good as the starter. The pastry was light and flavoured around a perfectly cooked game filling with a sauce that just set it all alight. The vegetables were delightfully buttered and seasoned with care and attention that is rarely seen and I am ashamed that we both had to admit the mash was better than my own which is the best compliment I can give. The pork cheek gave equal pleasure but was not mine to comment on. To finish we both chose a beautifully cooked Pear Frangipane Tart, A fabulous soaked layered pastry with a hint of the texture of a good baklava, light and delicate fanginpane and the gentle sweetness of the pear leaving a delicate after taste served with a light chantilly qunenelle on the side. The service was warm and welcoming with a genial host and attentive staff. A lunch in a pub is does not get better than this. We are excited to return.

We chose the 3 course seasonal menu for a late lunch and waited with great enthusiasm to find out what the options were. We’ve uploaded a photo of the menu to help readers know what great choices there are. We were spoiled for choice, I could have enjoyed any of the dishes. Mussels were the star of the show for me - and my husband. I offered him my dish to try and struggled to get it back! Equally, the crab starter with roasted pumpkin cream was delicious as was the homemade pork. The pheasant main was excellent, the mushrooms were the tastiest I have ever eaten and both the mash and fries took the meal to a different level. The sherry sauce was exceptionally delicious and a truly generous amount, I resisted my urge to lick the plate but mopped every bit of sauce up with the wonderful home made bread. The venison pies enjoyed by our friends were tasty and generous in proportions. Apple tart fine with a surprisingly unctuous bay leaf ice cream topped the meal off beautifully. I had opted for cheese which was local and each had distinctive and fantastic flavours. Beer and wines were really good and the open fire such a treat after the recent spell of rain and cold weather. Service and ambience was spot on. Our host explained that we were unlikely to need any more bread, he was right, but we could ask for anything during the meal and they would do their best to accommodate. Lancashire hospitality at its finest and the best meal out I’ve eaten for as long as I can remember.

The best Pub in the UK 2023....Can`t argue with that. The Food is all cooked on premises and it`s very clearly made with love and care. its perfect comfort food with no whistles and bells....a pie is a pie but this is the best pie you`ll ever eat. The Lobster , cooked to order and up there with the best bistros in Paris with the amazing sauce freshly made from the crushed up shells .Every part of every dish just tastes good. The food is seasonal and i chose the Grouse for my main. It was shot locally , plucked and prepared by chef Stosie and then served traditionally rare with its heart and livers on a grilled skewer. The sauce was made from the goodness of the Grouse along with local berries which were part of the birds diet....amazing. The Plum dessert was just superb , simple and ticked every box. £50 for 3 courses including bread and bites. Service was extremely friendly and entertaining thanks to A.J the comedy barman and his great one liners. All in all i would highly recommend a trip here and you`ll also find a local B&B 2 minutes up the road (clerk laithe lodge).
