Terrible experience rude staff, dirty table and cutlery the food was awful it was tasteless and tough. Worst meal we have had in years. Then to finish it off the staff then argued with us when we went to pay, trying to charge us for food we had never had.

Was really looking forward to this visit with our neighbours. However the overall experience was disappointing. Given the fact that the chef had won Masterchef the professional s last year I was expecting an imaginative and original menu- this was not the case with just a selection of pub standard fare. Steak pie, fish and chips, burgers and the now standard slow cooked lamb. The food, however, was well cooked and tasty, no problems there. The dining experience was a different thing altogether. We had booked online and had noticed it was dog friendly - our neighbours have a little dog which we take out with us. On arrival the greeting was off hand and we were taken to a table in a dark corner of the pub. We were told that dogs were not allowed in the restaurant- fair comment but not made clear on the website. We asked for another table near the window which we got. The gentleman taking the order was also the sommelier but when he brought the wine to us it was just plonked on the table with no offer of a taste and no effort to pour for us. Not the end of the world but would be nice especially if the establishment wants to maintain high standards. The cutlery offered for mains after our starters was handled by the tines of the fork for one of our guests- great way to spread germs. The daily fish special was a choice of sea bass or cod. My wife asked what vegetables the fish came with and was told- potatoes. She ordered sea bass. What she was served was cod- no apologies that the sea bass had sold out prior to being served. Luckily she enjoys all fish and enjoyed the dish served. The day was saved by Becky who took over service and explained what veg the fish came with and took on board all our concerns about the sommelier and his attitude and poor service. Gave us a complimentary pie to take home as a gesture of goodwill. Thanks Becky for your service. Overall, decent food, limited basic menu, poor service from the sommelier, not cheap. Definitely a lot better places to eat in this part of lancashire and won't be rushing back.

We had been here before so expected it to be as good. It wasn't!. Two of the dishes ordered were not as stated on the menu. And not very good. Of course, you order but who keeps the menu to check if what's delivered to the table is as stated. Service wasn't as good either, allowing us to order, but then telling us what's available as the kitchen was being worked on. Should say upfront then we don't waste time choosing. We won't be rushing back.

Ate here on Sunday night as a table of 3. After seeing Dan win Masterchef the professionals I was expecting it to be amazing. Maybe I had too high expectations but didn’t think he would have come out of a mediocre kitchen with those skills. I didn’t have a starter but my partner and his friend did, the terrine and the parfait, they were both really nice and tasty. I decided to go straight for a main and opted for the roast beef, as did the rest of the party. I’m sorry to say it was below average, soggy roasties, lumpy mash, bland vegetables, flat as a pancake yorkie and the beef was grainy despite being lovely and pink. I understand each strip loin can vary on quality so it’s not always the chefs fault but the whole plate just lacked seasoning and the gravy tasted like it could have had granules in (not home made). I then had the sticky toffee pudding which was rock hard both on top and underneath to the point I could hardly get through it with a spoon. The flavour was lovely it was just a shame it was like a brick. Clearly food had been held for a good part of the day in a hot box and had lost its freshness. I mentioned to the FOH staff about this and she knocked the dessert off the bill and apologised. Disappointing when you cook for a living yourself and go out to eat so you can be on the other side of the kitchen for once.

My M/F fish was a small piece of Hake. It was very overcooked , and the potatoes were cold. On the whole, it wasn't a great dish. The beef was ok, and the yorkshire pudding was exceptional. Again, the vegetables served with it were a little underwhelming. On the whole we were disappointed with our visit. As we travelled some distance to eat here, we won't be coming back.

We left feeling disappointed. Initially we were hoping that the fact that a winner of Masterchef would mean the food would be excellent. What an opportunity for the venue to showcase. However, the prices we felt, were city centre prices. The menu choices were minimal and very ‘pub grub’ . The quality of the food was mediocre . Under cooked vegetables, over seasoned fish, gloopy sauce. Sorry but we won’t be returning or recommending. Shame that the chance to maximise a Masterchef is so poor. On the plus side the waitress was excellent.

Went for lunch last week for Birthday celebrations. The Black Bull in Old Langho is only around 25 mins from us, so we thought it would be a lovely birthday treat to go and try the restaurant where the winner of Master Chef Series 17 is the Chef at. We were so thrilled when Dan won, and picked him as the winner from the start. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!! We were looked after very well from the minute we stepped through the door to when we left. The service was excellent - our waiter was very attentive, not intrusive and very professional. The food was excellent - we were a party of four, we each had starter and mains and everyone enjoyed the dishes we chose to eat. The atmosphere was excellent - plenty of space between tables, low hum of chatter and enjoyable background music. The only thing to highlight was, the room we were seated in was a little chilly, even with the fire being lit. Saying that, it was a cold miserable day and I do feel the cold so others may prefer it this way. We would highly recommend you visit if you are in the area, we are sure you will love it too.

Really decent ‘gastro pub’ food. I went for the non meat dishes which were excellent. I chose olives and hummus topped with Dukka and Ciabatta, yummy; sea food tagliatelle, piping hot and packed with perfectly cooked fish, mussels and prawns, and thankfully cream free, delicious; and coconut maringue with passion fruit and pineapple sorbet, tasty and refreshing. I thought everything was prepared with care and wth good quality ingredients, the portion sizes are really good too, It’s not a fine dining style restaurant that are typified by more courses and smaller plates ( and I’ve been to a few), its just top notch pub restaurant food. My partner had an excellent meal too and we both agreed it was worth the journey. The table staff were very pleasant and competent, my concern was they were somewhat over stretched which meant we had to sometimes ask for additional drinks ( rather than be asked) and we offered to take our bill to the bar to pay as we’d waited to pay longer than we liked

Very poor! We have been several times before but today…. JUST NO! Book elsewhere until they sort it out!! waited 45 mins for food, kept getting told “it’s on the pass” for 15 mins, fish and chips were bang average, steak was asked for rare but came medium at best , The chicken jalfrezi had overcooked wooly chicken and the naan was rock hard sons dish was meant to be ‘mac n cheese’ but came as tagliatelle with no sauce and just grated cheese unmelted on top !!! Our sons new dish came 1hr 20 mins after we ordered Just REALLY dissatisfied this time! It used to be so good! …. Speculating here but has the “master chef winning head chef” departed the business ? Who knows but for a £££ place, it was marginally above Wetherspoons!

Food good and service a bit slow but it was Boxing Day. However the female “manager” needs some serious customer service training. Aggressive and poor in her approach - didn’t bother telling us about the specials (she did to the next table but after we had ordered), didn’t check about allergies, didn’t know details on the menu and not particularly friendly at all. Other staff lovely. Get she probably didn’t want to be there but that’s no excuse in hospitality. Dreadful. Country pub which thinks it’s a Michelin Star fine dining establishment with staff who have a serious chip on their shoulders. Booked a table three weeks in advance. Arrived, seated, people arriving after us were seated and had their orders taken whilst we sat seemingly forgotten about. One table were eating their starters and we hadn’t even had our order taken. Both drinks orders wrong both times, food eventually came, very poor for the price. No check back, no asking if we wanted more drinks, no clearing of the plates, nobody came to ask if we wanted desserts. We were simply left alone. They could’ve sold more drinks and four desserts, eventually we’d had enough of waiting and I went to pay. I complained to the manager and the attitude was simply dreadful. Obviously customers are seen as a cash cow and a hindrance. This place has an unearned sense of exclusivity and management have a dreadful attitude. Don’t worry guys, we’ve found somewhere else where the food is much better, and more importantly, the service is spot on and very attentive.

A quiet midweek visit not far from home where the previous experience has been mixed. This time more towards the lower end and not worth the money (perhaps more and more influenced by GF’s chef status at home). Poor watery and greasy fish and chips (recommend nearby Artisan instead) and other dishes that included a pricey prawn pasta where the number of prawns was similar to the number of people in that night (very few). Take nothing away from the serving staff who were very good but the prices charged for food demand a better food experience. Wonder why they don’t try a midweek special set menu to drag the customers in. On the plus side the rarely seen Malaga lager was excellent. It’s got a nice finish in a nice location but needs to offer more for the prices they charge.

We booked a table for 7 people at 6.30pm. Extremely slow service despite booking. After 30 minutes waiting with a baby and a toddler I asked if someone could take our order. The man at the bar said “we will come when WE are ready” I was so shocked I asked him to repeat it assuming I misheard and he was happy to repeat it. When the server eventually arrived half the items on the menu were not available. I tried to find the manager or gentleman to complain about his behaviour but could not find anyone to talk to. Even the local patrons said to me they were shocked by the behaviour. So we left and went to Millstone at Mellor, much better choice, price, food and service.

Came today for the first time with my Mum. We had the Gambas Pil Pil to start which was incredible. The prawns were huge and succulent and the chilli oil was delicious with just the right amount of mild spice. We had the Sunday Roast sharing platter and we were both blown away by the quality of the food. The beef was cooked to perfection and tasted insanely good, the Ham was wonderful, the Yorkshire puddings were amazing, the gravy was beautiful with a delicate herby flavour, the cauliflower cheese was creamy and devine, and every other item on the board was outstanding too. We loved the "sharing board" concept as we could pick and choose what we wanted and how much we wanted. We had the Sticky toffee pudding for dessert and that was just heavenly. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Every staff member had a smile and were helpful and kind. Each course arrived quickly and served with a friendly smile by the waiting staff and they were quick to clear our plates once we had finished. The Inn itself is stunning and has a rustic, charm to it. It has to be the best restaurant I've visited for Sunday lunch and the staff there made our experience even more enjoyable. We dined here last weekend after hearing great reports but unfortunately left feeling quite deflated. The setting is lovely, a cosy country pub feel but that was the highlight unfortunately. We found service to be a bit haphazard and slow at times considering it was quiet at the time we dined and overpriced food for the quality on offer. We all ordered starters and a child's main to come with the starters. We were very clear on timing and anybody with kids will understand why. Unfortunately our children's meal came 10 minutes after our starters with no explanation or apology - this set the tone really. Of the 3 courses we had everything was just ok for the price. My rack of lamb (£30) for example wasn't remotely pink and the fat wasn't rendered down, nor was I asked how I would prefer it to be served. We dine out regularly from pub grub to Michelin stars and for the price of the place, which certainly is in the Michelin Guide ballpark, the food was average with haphazard service levels. When you have anything between 4-5 different people waiting on your table it naturally lends itself to quite a poor customer experience. Allocating a waiter to a table certainly feels more personal and professional. I must also add that not one of the numerous people serving us asked how anything was or if we needed anything else. Nor did they keep on top of our drinks so we were constantly having to flag them down to order. Some other niggles...we requested a cocktail from the cocktail menu...the lady returned to say we don't have that on the menu anymore but they would do it for us anyway (which was appreciated) - ensure your menus are current to avoid confusion. For the price I expected much better food and service levels.

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE ! Called for Sunday lunch for two . Firstly , there's absolutely nothing wrong with the food , its fine . However the options are ... either two courses or 3 courses , you cannot simply have "A Sunday roast " we really didn't want two courses but basically had to have a pudding . So 2 x Roasts 2x puddings plus 1 Beer and one wine And the bill was £91 which although nice food , it aint that nice and we object to having to pay for two courses when really ..We only needed one . Its simply too expensive for a Sunday lunch , there are many equally good options in the area for less money and without being forced to pay for what you can't eat

Great pub and restaurant, I was staying at a lodge just down the road and the black bull was the closest for us to have something to eat. The first night I ordered the 10oz steak, I was slightly disappointed by its size as it wasn't 10oz but I was hungry so didn't send it back it was cooked nicely and the fries it came with were also cooked perfectly. On our second visit I ordered the cheese burger and chips both beautifully cooked, the size of the burger was huge, my partner on both nights ordered the chicken burger. First night she said it tasted a little salty but the second night she really enjoyed it, we also ordered the garlic flat bread and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the place is very clean and tidy, if you want food then ring up to book a table as Saturday evening people had a wait of around 30mins because it was busy. We'd definitely visit here again.

Terrific. Outstanding food and service. Just don't eat too much of it like I did. The Guinness was also the best I've tasted in any pub for a number of years.

Excellent everything. This establishment can cater for everyone. It has a main dining area that is decorated beautifully, intimate side rooms, spacious bar area, a large huge outside area that is 50% covered with a modern canopy and all incredibly clean. I asked to move tables into the dining area because im fussy and the lighting was much better for me personally and the lady was so accommodating, no issue, we had a choice of 3 tables in the dining area and what a fabulous atmosphere. A great selection of food on the menu and the most delicious wine. The food was outstanding! Nice hearty portions, hot and fresh and so very flavourful. The service was excellent. So friendly, helpful, cheerful, professional- just was at our table at the correct times and would definitely recommend and be visiting again soon!

Went for food celebrating a birthday Had my 19mth old granddaughter with us Booked table for 5 didn’t take order till 5.45 and another hour before food arrived Cheese and onion pie not filling inside whatsoever just pastry and chips overcooked Had to ask for gravy as meal was so dry Son and partner didn’t get the extra vegetables they ordered Told if I wanted another meal would have to wait 25 minutes Like I’m going to do that when everyone else had their food Didn’t realise it was a set price for two courses and since by this time none of us wanted desserts due to disappointment we opted to get desserts to take home and had to wait another half an hour for them Completely terrible experience and well understaffed for the amount of customers I the place All this with a 19 month old baby who was totally fed up and hungry Would not recommend this place to anyone Lots of other more nice places to eat

Went for Sunday lunch in the restaurant and chose from the Sunday Lunch menu. Found the service slow, the food average and the prices for food and drink very high.

Came for a belated mothers/fathers day meal. What a delightful place and definitely recommend it. The interior was lovely and quite fitting for a countryside eatery. Highly recommend the black pudding scotch egg and the Manchester tart. I gave the food 4 stars, but that's only because my bakewell tart wasn't that flavoursome, but that's my own personal taste. My husband, mother and father all raved about the food. The views in the surrounding area are lush full of greenery. With excellent outdoor seating. Reasonably priced too, cost £200 for 4 of us, all having a 3 course meal and 2 drinks and table water. A visit is a must, even if you have dogs

First time visiting and certainly not the last. Staff were so friendly and attentive, can't buy that!! We had the sharing board for two and all I can say is WOW!! The food was all cooked to perfection and there is so much to choose from! 😋 could have done with a nap afterwards but no... we chose pudding! Have to say the coconut and malibu panna cotta pudding was out of this world.
