I have been visiting the tearoom for years, Helene and Janet do a fantastic job. I recently won a Facebook competition for a breakfast for two including tea or coffee. I went today and claimed the winnings. The breakfast was lovely coming from lancashire we have great black pudding (bury black pudding) However here it is a local butchers and wow it was delightful solid 11 out of 10. We had a choice of white brown or seeded bread for the toast( I love the choices) the sausage and bacon are also from the butchers it was all very nice. Helene has advised there is a new menu coming soon and it looks for have some really nice options so I'm looking forward to the next visit. Also wanted to shout out to layla which is a young lass who works at the tea room her attitude to work is so refreshing for a girl her age, she is a little work horse!! She always has a smile on her face and is very attentive and very polite!! I love a visit to Helene's. We didn't have cake today but the carrot cake is also 10/10 I usually choose this when I'm there.

We were in Skipton around lunchtime and happened to see Helene's Tea Room, we decided to give it a try and we were so glad we did. This place is a real gem. The food was delicious, well prepared, home cooked and very reasonably priced too. This is obviously a family owned and run place, they are tucked out of the way and easy to pass by but most certainly well worth a try, next time we are in Skipton we will definitely be going back, might try their breakfast next time, looks delicious 😋

No greeting on arrival. I went to sit at a table to seat four, despite there only being two of us, was told you can't sit there, there is two of you, sit at a table for two.. I wouldn't mind if the place was busy, it was dead! Never have I felt so uncomfortable in a cafe as here! She stood over us, waiting for us to order, said no breakfasts, cakes are round there if you want to look. A toasted teacake was served with a lovely slab of butter, rock hard, it wouldn't spread at all, I had to try and scrape bits off with a spoon to try and spread it. The coffee was awful. The woman who was cooking, dressed in jeans and a hoodie, hair scraped back, looked unkempt. A woman came in with a child and sat at a table for four, that didn't matter as they must've been family or friends as they chatted whilst we were there. The only time manners were used were when we was paying! We will never visit this place again, no atmosphere, front of house staff unpolite, not engaging with customers, rude, not surprised the place was empty. If it wasn't for our politeness, I wouldn't have paid, as it wasn't worth it..

I popped into Helene’s yesterday and was just about to leave a review about their lovely lunch when I saw the poor review. Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but I have eaten here before and been in a few times for coffee and I’ve never had anything but friendly service. The last one mentions apple juice in a pint glass 🤭 This is not Starbucks or Costa and neither should it be. The cups are (deliberately) mis-matched but all china, they have an assortment of glasses. The lady behind the counter and her daughter are warm and friendly. Why anyone would think they’re not welcome in a small business in Skipton is beyond me. Our businesses would love to have MORE customers. Perhaps she didn’t run over smiling that doesn’t mean she’s unwelcoming, she may be a little shy or not want to crowd you. Not everyone is the same and if you speak nicely enough to anyone instead of second guessing how they’re feeling you may be surprised. Anyway rant over. 😂 the food and freshly made cake was tasty, the coffee lovely and the homely atmosphere a nice place to while away an hour or so.

I very rarely write poor reviews. However this experience was not enjoyable. Firstly we felt as though we were not welcome in the cafe. We ordered a latte and a apple juice. The apple juice came in a half pint of Guinness. And the latte tasted like milky water. We ordered food and it was okay. (Two jacket potatoes) The main issue was the attitude of the owner. She made us feel as though we were a burden for walking in.

We came for lunch, as soon as I walked in elderly woman behind counter was staring at us (felt uncomfortable). But I didn’t think much of it, she came over and i said “ sausage sandwich please “ to which she said “ no” very abruptly. It was silent for a moment as I was a bit surprised then she says “ sorry we’ve ran out”. This is at 1pm in the afternoon in a cafe. How have you ran out of sausages? When half of the breakfast menu includes sausages. She then proceeds to stand there and stare at me whilst I have to choose something else, when it’s very obvious I don’t know what to order. No offer of coming back when I’ve chose something else. I then received an undercooked bacon sandwich. Overpriced and not nice. As said in other reviews, it is a strange atmosphere. Can’t fault the young girl waitress. But the older woman who I assume is the owner needs to work on her customer service skills.

We popped into this cafe roughly at 2pm, the waitress, think her name was Janet - served us and the atmosphere just felt a bit off, we sat down at a table and we ordered our food, when our food came my order was wrong - I asked for a toasted sandwich and got just a normal sandwich, not major I still ate it and it was lovely, crisps were borderline soggy like they’d been open for a few days, and no coleslaw came - we then queried this and the waiter said “we’ve run out”, Our food was lovely, we were going to get some cakes - however we overheard Janet say her baking day is on Monday! Keep in mind we have come on a Friday, it totally put us off thinking the cake was Four days old! She also did moan a lot and turned a group of 6 away as she couldn’t be bothered to move the tables! Nice visit to SKIPTON, but the service was very poor.

Very busy day in town, you might think cafes would capitalise on that. Not this one. Several people were turned away from 2pm as they had stopped doing sandwiches, leaving tables empty. One chap muttered as he was leaving “I thought this was a cafe” to which one member of staff said quite loudly “we may be a cafe but we stop doing sandwiches at 2pm”. She might not be wrong but I did not know where to put my face to be honest. Just made for a not very customer friendly atmosphere! Young lad at the till was very polite. Can’t say they were rude to me but there was just a vibe in there that was off. Chalk board could do with filling and looking better. Can’t say I had an issue with the price or charging, and the food was ok, cakes certainly looked great. But with all the cafes in Skipton, I won’t be going back here…

If you like value for your money, then this place is not for you. Sandwiches and drinks priced too high. The offer for a cream scone and coffee needs to be fully explained, as apparently we were charged an extra £2 each for having milk. The scone wasn't worth the money, as it was small, just a thin scraping of jam, and a tiny dollop of clotted cream. We won't be going again.

Oh my lord. If only we'd read the reviews first. I don't know what the waitress' problem was but what an attitude. Cream Scone was advertised as £6.75 with tea or coffee. We were overcharged by £2 each due to not having a plain coffee, which was not stated on the advertised price. When we queried the price charged the waitress was very rude. We definitely will not be returning or recommending to anyone else. And don't even get us started on the hair in the coleslaw. Rude, rude, rude.

We were greeted at half past two with, "We have no food, it's drinks and cakes only. " There was only one scone left £4 with butter. I had that and my wife had a piece of coffee and walnut cake. The food was alright but the Cappuccinos, whilst in resplendent cups, were diabolical. I can safely say that it was the worst cup of coffee that I have ever had. For £3 it tasted like it was entirely devoid of coffee and consisted of lukewarm milk. It was that bad that I left much of it.

The food was good, though they messed up our order. We all had sandwiches which they said came with salad, coleslaw and crisps, no one got the crisps and they didn't say they ran out or anything. They also sent us over 2 cappuccinos, when we order one, then we said we only ordered one the waitress was very, very rude to us and said its our fault because we wanted a different kind of milk and we confused her. Never been spoken to like that by someone in a cafe before. The cappuccino, if you can call it that, was a watered down coffee with hardly any milk. If you can't make it due to it being decaf and oat milk, just say and we could have ordered something else. Don't serve something that looks like bog water and doesn't taste much better. The staff also didn't wait until we left to start talking about us being difficult customers because we ordered a cappuccino. Honestly terrible customer service and wholeheartedly would not recommend due to the staff there.

Reviewing as a takeaway, the experience was not good. Took a long time to take the order of 2 sandwiches 2 coffees and an orange squash even though it was quiet. When it came it was just a very simple filling, one plain cheese and soggy tuna mayo, no salad or sauce/dressings on cheap white bread (even though I ordered one on brown) and it cost £19 which is extortionate for what we got. Probably better as an eat in, maybe you get more with an eat in to justify £7 for an awful sandwich

We visited as part of our trip to Skipton market. Upon entering we were greeted with 'you'll have to sit downstairs because there's no space but you'll have to order now then go down' very abruptly. In hindsight, we should have left at this point. We sat downstairs, which initially looked cosy, however the tables and chairs were right next to the toilet. We spent our visit with people stood constantly at our table waiting to use the facilities. Not pleasant at all when eating food! Really put us off.Despite being told no one would come downstairs to take our order, a lovely lady from the kitchen did come and take it. The other lady who brought our drinks was also very lovely and chatty. These 2 made us feel very welcome - thank you!As we came to the end of our food, the initial lady appeared and very rudely told us that we had 'a minute or two' to leave because she had people waiting to come in and she 'wasnt turning business away because of us'. We politely explained we were just getting our things together (despite not having finished our drinks), however she repeated the same again in a very rude manner. She stood with her arms crossed telling us it was very busy today and she had people who needed our table. The tables we were sat on had not been reserved. We wouldn't recommend a visit here unfortunately - it's a shame that one person can really spoil a place as the other staff were so lovely and seemed embarrassed at their colleagues behaviour. Not the start to our coach trip that we had hoped for.

We had the “mini”afternoon tea for 2. Absolutely brilliant, excellent value for money, delicious food in a lovely setting. Very efficient and friendly service, really added a lot to our stay in the Yorkshire area. Highly recommend.

Real thick ham in our sandwiches, lovely fresh chopped tomatoes in the tomato soup, generous salads & coffee that stayed warm to the end of lunch. And nice friendly staff. Recommended. (Went back for a cuppa & cake a bit later!)

My brother & I like to travel the world & source very special cakes. Yesterday we added another location to our select list. Before we left northern UK we looked for the best scones jam & cream with an English cup of tea in a town called Skipton a short distance from the Castle.

Two cups of restorative coffee on a day out in Skipton were served by a friendly and attentive team. Lovely atmosphere, great coffee and delightful surroundings. What more do any of us ask?

We booked afternoon tea for our hen party and it was fabulous! The ladies closed the shop and we had the place to ourselves! Everything we ate was delicious, two particular highlights for me were the scones and a chocolate slice! Would definitely recommend.

Food was lovely and service was good. I went out with a group of friends with various food allergies and they were able to cater to most - if I’m out in skipton again I’ll definitely come back

Arrived 45 mins before closing and were greeted with “we only have filter coffee” which wasn’t a problem to us. Then told “the kitchen is closed” - we said we only wanted tea and cake and were told, “no one has been in for 45 minutes”.

Once again, it was an excellent experience. Lobster a particularly good highlight! We've been several times now, and it never disappoints.

An excellent full English breakfast prepared with quality ingredients and prepared to perfection. A very friendly and professional staff team. The farm shop is a delight with an excellent range of products. The butchery and bakery departments are outstanding.

Lovely place with stunning views and hosted by Jonathan and Fran who are the most welcoming people. Bed and breakfast for one night only but we felt like we were visiting close family. We would highly recommend a stay here.
