We've had a full Sunday lunch here twice and both have been great. This time (Sunday 20th October, 2024) the beef dinner was exceptional with sliced beef and pulled beef in a Yorkshire Pudding and lots of veg with creamy mash and gorgeous gravy . The bar man/waiter was brilliant. Sadly it all went downhill with the roast potatoes. They weren't roasted properly. They were not even brown, just cream coloured. I had to really fight to slice into them. I left mine and commented to the excellent waiter. I wouldn't have posted any negative if it wasn't that, while paying, we were told our drinks would not be charged due to the comment about the roast potatoes. Good news to any Yorkshire lad's ears. But sadly, the deduction didn't take place. I don't think we will be returning

Probs one of the best pubs in terms of atmosphere and food. Every time we come here, the staff are super warm and friendly. Cute little log fire going in autumn & winter. Would 10/10 recommend the flat iron steak. Prices are spot on, too.

Love this pub .Stayed for a few days at the adjacent campsite with our Shetland sheepdog Tommy. The pub is very dog friendly. The staff were extremely well trained and I was particularly impressed with the tall girl who seemed to live there! The beer was excellent ( Hazel and I are long time CAMRA members ) and although we didn’t have any food we overheard many comments from customers who did saying it was excellent. The pub is superbly run by the Landlady with clearly total support from her husband/ partner who turned up after his own work day to be the very humorous quiz master . Love to see so much effort being put into making a pub ( which may have been shut down ) be successful, especially in these days of so many pubs closing down . Hazel and I ( and our dog Tommy plus my fishing friend Richard ) loved our visits to this pub and the campsite;.plus I caught a 6.5lb brown trout in the river below the bridge which any angler will tell you is an absolute specimen !

The food here is terrible & well overpriced for what you get! £8.50 for a teeny tiny cake with not even a full scoop of ice cream with it! It was half a spoon !!The food is chewy & tasteless and looks like they are cutting back as everything is well over priced & very poor quality!! Iam a local of clitheroe & been here a few times & everytime is worse and worse! The food from the dog menue even made my dog throw up ! If you want quality decent fresh food with big portions id advise to go to calfs head its much better ,cheaper & fantastic quality food! This place needs to re look at what they are doing & get a proper chef especially with the prices you are charging its disgusting!!!

Food was lovely tasting but not worth £32.50 sharing platter price. One fish cake and 3 prawns plus other fish bits doesn’t share between two and we had to get chips extra £5!. The meal was worth £20 at best and a bottle of wine is an overpriced £30. Hence why place was empty on a Friday afternoon. Won’t be returning. Run by young adults who were all lovely btw. Popped in just for food as I have run Marstons pubs myself, so I thought it would be good. I had the honey chicken wings which were so salty I nearly drank edisford bridge river dry. My husbands starter was the same and he left it. After being put in a dark corner, even though the pub was nearly empty, we made our way to the bar to be met by the most unhappiest bar maid I have ever seen. She looked so scruffy and and it was the sour look on her face that made our decision just to have starters. When we arrived at the pub, there was empty glasses outside, these where still there when we left, even though the scruffy tattooed barmaid was doing nothing apart from making herself look more miserable and twiddling her thumbs behind the bar. She could have been, stocking fridges, wiping tables down, wiping the beer spills down off the bar etc, but she just stood there looking down right miserable. There was lip stick on my wine glass and my husbands pint was flat due to the lazy scruffy barmaid putting it in a warm glass. Apparently this wasn't the case. "The glass had just been washed". So it will obviously still be wet and warm. I really think you need to use less salt in your food and also train your bar staff how to wash glasses, pour a proper pint and put a smile on there face and dress in appropriate manner. We will not be visiting again.

We waited an hour for food and it wasn’t busy. My portion of chips was small and had off cuts of fries in them so I asked for more as my meal was almost £20. The chips they brought out were also small and they added £4.50 onto the bill for them. I wouldn’t have minded the wait however if service is slow customers should be told upon entry there is an hour wait for food. Compared to other places in the area it was disappointing in terms of the food, price and service. Such a shame as I’m local and really wanted it to be good. I’d go again for a drink, just not for food.

We planned to eat here so beforehand we took our dogs for a walk up the path next to the river which runs next to the pub then treat ourselves to some food and we were not disappointed. The pub was run down and the new management have been asked to save it and already changes have been made. Disappointed is to say the least. We originally had a booking for Valentine’s Day, was then messaged to be told the ‘chef was ill’, they had to cancel our booking and offered us a free complimentary meal which we rebooked in for. We’ve turned up today for our complimentary meal to be told ‘there was a gas leak and they had to close the kitchen and she thought she had contacted everyone’ in which she didn’t contact us at all or we wouldn’t have turned up!! There was apology or offer to rebook us in, I had to mention about rebooking in. Extremely disappointed.

Sunday Lunch with friends before a drive back to the Midlands. Beautiful part of the country and a great spot. Main course was lovely although we were awaiting gravy. Then we ordered desserts but two items were off the menu. It took a while to be told this so most of our group decided against dessert in the end. I had a ‘rocky road sundae’ on the specials menu that honestly was badly put together with a bit of cake, icy ‘ice-cream’, cream and marshmallows. Our server understood and kindly offered to take some money off the cost. I felt though that it was not the server’s fault. She seemed to be being pulled in lots of directions. I really felt like she was trying her best but her manager didn’t seem to be talking to her very nicely. I understand that I only saw a snapshot but it just made me feel uncomfortable and I felt quite sorry for her. I’m not sure if there are staffing issues or it was a bad day but it has put me off returning. Sorry

This is a proper good pub, with two out of the four handpumps operational. Wainwright's Gold and Hobgoblin on tap. The beer was on form and well kept, obviously clean lines. We called for lunch with our two dogs and were made very welcome and she kindly pointed out the area's where dogs were permitted. A good choice on the menu, my wife opted for the hot beef baguette with chips and side salad, I had the trio of sausages on a bed of mash with a rich gravy. Both were delicious and we thought good value. We found it a warm and friendly pub and will be going back again before the end of our holiday.

Came here with a camping group, booked end of August, sadly booking wasn't sent through to new manager. She said she'd fit us in 17 of us. Asked us to pre ordered food in the morning. Came for dinner and only 16 places not a problem but a bit squashed. Service was excellent, one young waitress on and she was amazing.... Food was excellent and they worked really hard for us in a busy pub.... Come to pay and the bill on some of the food was more expensive than then menu said. 12.95 for a steak pudding and was charged 18.... 6.25 for started and was charged 6.95 Questioned and she said it was a larger pudding however we weren't informed. She precessed to say...you pre-ordered and I accommodated you! She said the puddings were bigger and not regular size and if we hadn't pre ordered she would have told us...our bill ended up £15 more expensive than we expected over the group. She said she'd knock off the deserts for the two couples who had been charged extra which she did but when I paid the balance and got a receipt they were still on there. We spent around £700 between us all in the pub over the whole weekend... So am undone she tried to con us. Sad really as the food and service were so good.

Ordered the steak pudding and was told ‘oh it’s the last one and it’s a large’ - thought we’d got lucky with the last one being a large, anyway paid the bill and left and realised we’d overpaid. Steak pudding on the menu was £12.95. Rang up and asked for a breakdown of the prices on our bill and was told the pudding was £18.95 because we’d ordered a large. Erm no, we didn’t. You told us the last pudding was a large. At no point were we told about the additional cost. Firstly, not even worth £18.95. Secondly was just told ‘sorry’ no offer to come back in and get our extra £5! Bit shady that to not even say ‘the last pudding we have is a large but is an extra £5 is that ok?’ Also the chips on both our meals were undercooked, pale and hard.

Have to say Saturday had a great night with the rugby showing followed by a cracking singer. The staff are so friendly and the homemade beef burger was spot on. Will revisit.

Called in for food @ 7:30pm on a Saturday evening with my wife and 10 year old son. Greeted with stares from customers, clearly we were not “Local” or “Regulars” Someone appeared upon entry to which I asked if they had a table for food. The gentleman then said we’re not serving food at moment, he then saw me glance around the room (People were eating!) He then said we’ve run out. I got the impression we just weren’t welcome. Disappointed as we drove to the venue.

Took our two young (5 & 7) Nieces whilst camping and the service and food were wonderful. Very friendly gentleman behind the bar and the young girl who took our order for food and drinks were great with the girls. Steak pie was very meaty and plentiful and my wifes fish and chips went down well as did sausage and chips & Pizza for the kids. Beer & Guiness just as you like it, and all good value. Recommended.

Had a fabulous meal for a small birthday party. Food was excellent. The tomahawk steak was just perfect. Service was brilliant too. Can't wait to go back.

We had three delicious meals for lunch from the light bite menu and were pleasantly surprised to see steak and gammon there. The staff member was very friendly and dog friendly. We sat indoors which was nice, clean and warm. Our Rossy dog also enjoyed his sausage. Lovely area too close to the river

Food was very good and the staff excellent. The only problem was we wanted to eat in the pub side and not the restaurant side . But there where dogs everywhere and a large dog came to sit by us with its owners and it smelt . We therefore moved into the restaurant ( not our choice of sitting) The pub used to have dogs by the bar or in the wooden floor small area. Not in the main rooms . Bit disappointed

We stayed at a near by caravan park for 2 night, bobbed in for a few drink last night. We did not have food but what was coming out looked lovely. The manager behind the bar was amazing and made us feel so welcome, the locals we got chatting to where so lovely too. Amazing , friendly ,cozy, old school country pub. We well definitely be back.

Lovely place with stunning views and hosted by Jonathan and Fran who are the most welcoming people. Bed and breakfast for one night only but we felt like we were visiting close family. We would highly recommend a stay here.

An excellent full English breakfast prepared with quality ingredients and prepared to perfection. A very friendly and professional staff team. The farm shop is a delight with an excellent range of products. The butchery and bakery departments are outstanding.

An all round excellent meal with great and humorous service in front of a roaring log fire. Some excellent grouse and partridge and as always the pies were very good although being really picky a little more filling would have gone down even better. I know its sacrilege to critique those world famous pies but as we keep returning we had to find something that was not perfect!
