Held a baby shower in the Laurel Room and couldn't fault the service, venue or food - absolutely perfect! So good, that we cam back for family Sunday lunch the next day (excellent quality and value), then I cam aback with a friend for dinner on the Monday evening. We opted for their steak and cocktail special - only £20 - and again, couldn't fault the quality at all. This is a fabulous local venue that should be shouted out more often!

Tried the Sunday lunch. Poor value for money. Beef was definitely not carved from a joint, Yorkshire was dry as sticks, Roast potatoes were just wrong. Only decent veg was the carrots. Service was poor but that is not a judge of any staf… just poor training. Will not go back!

A large group of us visited this restaurant last week. It was my first time. I booked a table & was asked to pre-order as we were a large party. No problem. All the staff were very welcoming and professional. The restaurant staff were particularly attentive and helpful. Decor was lovely and our food was good. Good choice on the menu. Reasonably priced. Will return.

This was the mince and dumplings. Menu says carrots. Picture shows said carrots. Menu said leek dumplings, still to find said leeks. Was I full, no. Was I asked if everything was OK, no. Was it tasty, not really. Would I go back, no. Should be done under the trades descriptions act. I eat out most days, this is the second time I have been in since the refurb, first time when it first opened with limited menu, and this is one off the list for me. Plus £3.25 for a coffee. I wasn't charged that in the 02 in London!

This is our 2nd visit and we had another great meal, visited for Sunday Lunch last time which was very tasty and it's always great when you don't have to cook yourself! This time we thought we would try the tenner at teatime menu i've seen advertise and it was such great value, our meals arrived quickly, I had the chicken tikka and my son had the sausage and mash, both absolutely delicious and for only £10, incredibly good value when you can't be bothered to cook! We will be back.

I was booked in with my parents for a meal on Saturday night. It was the first time that we’ve been and I can guarantee that we will be back soon! The food was amazing. I am somewhat of a fussy vegetarian and I felt like the restaurant did a great job in both their selections for veggie options and for the patience of the incredible waitress whilst I asked questions about my dish. My parents were very happy too, and given that my dad is a grumpy Northerner, he can be difficult to impress! Well done! All the staff were lovely and super welcoming. The drinks were *amazing* and I definitely would recommend the house rosé. Thank you again for a great wonderful evening. We’ll definitely be back, hopefully to try the Sunday lunch next!

Visited at the weekend with my husband for tea. First and last visit. I got the garlic chicken that was very very dry and had zero taste of any garlic. Basically just a plain chicken breast with no sauce at all. My husband got the belly pork which he said was average. Really disappointed.

This review is only for the Oak Room restaurant. Have to say the quality of the food was not good. The fish and chips were very dark in colour although not overcooked. The chips also had a greasy feel to them, suggesting an oil change maybe needed in the fryers? The salad leaves accompaniment to both meals was limp and lifeless and didn't taste or feel at all fresh. The ingredients looked as if they had been carelessly thrown onto the plate with salad leaves and chips under a steak and tasteless mushy peas with a skin on the surface and little flavour. On a Friday night between 7 and 8 the place was almost empty which perhaps tells a story. Pleasant enough decor but no atmosphere and background muzak allied to the mediocre food don't make for a memorable dining experience. You'd probably get a better meal at a Spoons. Overpriced for what was on offer.

We booked a meal for 10 people at this restaurant as we heard some really great things. As we were a large group we pre-ordered our meal, but despite this we did have to ask them when the food would be delivered after waiting for around 30 minutes after arrival due to us being booked at another event fairly soon after our meal. This was brought out almost immediately and our first impressions were extremely high, the Brisket Bolognese was the first meal out. One of the members of our party did unfortunately have to send hers back in as the Chicken and Vegetable casserole came with one very underwhelming chicken drumstick and she unfortunately cannot eat chicken on the bone. A fact that we would have mentioned prior but didn't expect a boned piece of chicken in a casserole! She was given the option of changing her meal which she did, but again the presentation was not the greatest as the rice had not been drained causing the sauce to become extremely watery 😞 Other comments around the table were fairly satisfactory but over use of sage in all the dishes was highlighted by all. However, the staff were pleasant, friendly and accommodating in their service but this was not enough to convince us to come back again 😔

Disappointing, was looking forward to a nice lunch after seeing this advertised on Facebook. The restaurant was lovely, warm, modern and the greeting was friendly. I ordered the hot beef sandwich which according to the menu came with skin on fries and gravy. Received my meal which was toast with some beef inside and crisps, no chips or gravy. The table opposite complained as they received the same order and to be fair a pot of chips appeared halfway through the meal but no gravy. There was only one waitress on service so no offer of top up drinks or dessert. Such a shame as I was trying to support a new business but unfortunately was left very disappointed, so much potential but to be frank the food was rubbish.

We'd seen that the Park Head had been renovated and was under new management, so we went for brunch to check it out. It was disappointing, particularly because the Auckland Project (google it!) seems to do most things well. I had "American pancakes with berry compote". They were basically tiny drop pancakes with some good compote, but any American would have been shocked, particularly at the price. I could do far better at several local pubs that offer brunch. My partner had veggie sausages in a bun. I can't remember what the menu called them. But that's all they were, and very basic at that. Again, there are several local pubs that would do better at little more than half the price. We won't be back, I'm afraid.

Local to us and newly refurbished / reopened a group of 10 booked a Christmas menu. Start with a positive, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were lovely. Prawn cocktail starter had the presentation of a top class restaurant but that’s where it ended. Prawns not particularly tasty. Stodgy bread, the frozen butter did not make it any more palatable. Slow cooked beef was so tough the 3 of us who ordered had to return it. Fresh veg would be nice too. Good response with very nice thinly sliced beef given but as everyone else had already finished it was disappointing. £19 for two glasses of wine, guess that would have been ok if the food was outstanding but it wasn’t.

Chose the Park Head Hotel for a Sunday Lunch with 6 adults and 2 children. The ordering was chaotic even though the waitress entered all meals on a tablet. 3 orders came out incorrect and 2 deserts were incorrect so 4 meals were going cold while the kitchen sorted new meals out. The Sunday dinner quality/ size was only average with 3 small bowls of veg for 6 adults. The drinks bill was incorrect with 1 additional drink being added to the final bill. Overall a disappointing experience.

Well, we went for the Sunday dinner now to say the portion was small is a slight understatement.. Not to mention the tiny amount of vegetables that you have to share between 2 people. But to then have crackling missing off your meal is a bit of a disappointment to say the least. The 2 staff seemed absolutely rushed off their feet constantly, took ages for anyone to come take our order and then once our food arrived I had the tea towel dipped into my food however I didn’t mention this at the time as the waiter seemed rather on edge and pretty stressed out?? Not once we’re we asked if our food was okay, and upon payment we brought the issues up to the waiter and it felt completely dismissed. When you’re paying around £40 for a two sunday dinners & two drinks you’d be expecting the service to be better quite frankly. The worst part was upon leaving, we was greeted by the waiter stood in the door with a saucer of crackling?? Which we was told to take the crackling in our bare hands as a gift from him? Absolutely baffled as to why anyone would think that would be okay? Felt rather embarrassed.. The waiter had plenty of time to rectify the small mistake, we sat afterwards having our drinks. But at the door was not the place nor the time. Rather inappropriate. Overall disappointed and won’t be returning, it used to be absolutely lovely what a shame.

On the whole a lovely Sunday lunch. Child’s portion was a good size. Roast pork and lamb were both lovely, nice Yorkshire and gravy. Malbec was very nice but nearly £10 for a large glass. Waiter was very polite and helpful. One thing that needs improvement was the broccoli cheese which was very hard and I would say raw. Starter of chicken terrine had a small piece of bone and a large piece of gristle in it which should have been removed if it was made on site. A few small things to work on but I would definitely return for another Sunday roast.

Called in for Sunday roast. On the whole the food was good, however it could have been served hotter as most items were lukewarm. Broccoli cheese was unfortunately very undercooked, almost raw in fact, which made it impossible to get a knife into. Kids dessert of pancakes with Nutella was poor. They were cold and dry, straight out of a packet with two small packets of Nutella. My granddaughter found them inedible. We did point this out to a member of staff who said he would notify the chef, however we were still charged for them. My daughter and myself had the Sunday roast minus the meat but were charged the same as the meat eaters. Ordinarily a price adjustment is made in allowance for a ‘meatless’ Sunday roast, well that has been the case in my previous experiences. The staff were pleasant but could do with further customer service training. My daughter ordered a glass of Chardonnay but immediately changed her mind and asked for a glass of rosé instead, however she received a glass of Chardonnay. The refurbishment of the restaurant is very nice, it is bright and roomy. Could do with some background music playing whilst people are dining. A few tweaks in the kitchen, restaurant and the staff would make all the difference to the diners experience, as it is almost there !

You have the choice of eating in the bar or the restaurant, with the same menu in each, and I chose the bar. Service was fine; the menu is pub food and, as long as you accept that, you won't be disappointed. I had the steak and ale suet pudding and I enjoye dit. The vegetables were good -- someone in the kitchen had chopped up savoy cabbage and carrots and they hadn't overcooked them. But do remember: it calls itself a country hotel and restaurant, which could make you think you're going somewhere you're actually not. It's a pub. P-U-B. Pub.

Not in a small dish heated in the microwave but a proper piece cut from a large Lasagne... A lovely weekend ! Thank you.

My wife and I visited the Parkhead on a Saturday evening, there was only 3 other couples in the restaurant (8.00pm) ! We visited approx 6months earlier and I must say the quality of food has gone down hill. It was not bad, but not good !

Just been for Sunday lunch with my partner and his brother and had the carvery (it's actually our 3rd visit) and were not disappointed. It's great having somewhere where practically everything is gluten free ( only the stuffing isn't) as they prepare home made gluten free Yorkshire puddings, non of that frozen nonsense here. You also get a free dessert!!!!!!! The only let down is that their choice of gluten free dessert is either Eton Mess or ice cream, would love to see a bit more variety here. If your Yorkshires are homemade it'd be great to see a homemade pudding too. This place easily is the best carvery in the area. All this for £10, it's definitely worth it to anyone from large groups to couples.

Decided to give it a try when we got a flyer through the door. No atmosphere, asked to be moved table when children had on noisy games on tablets, belly pork starter took ages to arrive & was average to say the least, steaks OK, nothing special.

Stayed here for a couple of nights.Food is delicious. Rooms very clean and staff including very nice bar maid, restaurant staff and lovely funny cleaning lady, really friendly and very helpful!!Good free car parking facilities.A good base is you want to be touring out and about.Just a couple of suggestions.. there was no box of tissues in room which would be a nice gesture and the bedside cabinets were nice wood so a couple of coasters would be nice for your cups so you don,t spoil the wood.Would recommend here and if we,re travelling will be back!!

We recently spent four nights at the Park Head as part of a large group on a coach holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This family run hotel has quite an unusual layout as it offers accommodation both in the main building and also on two levels in a U shaped annexe with a well maintained and beautifully planted relaxation area in the centre with tables and chairs and is perfect for sitting with a drink after dinner. A beer garden is located to the rear and there is also a play area to keep the kids occupied.Smokers are also catered for with a roofed smoking area. Our room was a good size with a double and single bed and although fairly basic, it was spotlessly clean and all the creature comforts were provided including hair drier, iron, flat screen tv, tea/coffee making facilities and a small selection of toiletries. A small packet of biccies would have been very welcome but that's a minor point! We also had an excellent free wi-fi connection to our room which was really handy. There was an issue with the hot water supply but after reporting it to reception in the morning, it had been fixed by the time we got back later that day. We found all the staff to be extremely pleasant and very helpful and whoever is in charge of training/customer service should be very proud of them!We have been on many coach holidays in the past where hotel menus have very obviously been prepared to a tight set budget. This was not the case at the Park Head as we had an excellent choice each evening which also included a vegetarian option. Starters and desserts were served to the table and main courses were self service carvery style. Compliments to the chef who prepared the melt in the mouth roast pork mid week..it was simply superb!Breakfast was also self service with a good selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc and of course a full English cooked breakfast. Drinks at the bar were reasonably priced, served with a Park Head smile and there was ample comfortable seating in the lounge area to sit with friends. The hotel enjoys a lovely rural location but if you venture out for a walk after dinner, the main road is extremely busy with very fast moving traffic, so be careful! If we were returning to the area on our own at some point in the future, I would have no hesitation in booking the Park Head. Thank you for a very pleasant stay and keep up the good work!

Absolutely wonderful meal tonight. My black pudding starter was beautiful. Very impressed by the use of local produce. Two sirloin steaks for £25 offer. They simply melted in the mouth. Divine. My dessert of Creme brûlée was heaven sent. Our waitress was so polite and helpful as was the waiter. Can't fault this place and would recommend highly. Definitely visit again

A bit disappointed with our lunch this time. Other visits have been great. Today we went at 4.15 after booking our table for 3 people. We went to the carvery where we got our meat which was plentiful and varied. BUT there was no stuffing left. After that all of the tureens of veg and potatoes were empty apart from a rather unappetising cabbage one. We waited in the queue for 5 minutes when all were replenished apart from mashed potatoes. We waited a further few minutes for that to arrive. The quality was fine but it was rather cooler than I expected. There was no concern for our wait either. There was only mint garnish left too. However we enjoyed our lunch even though there was no free dessert of my grandsons choice and not offered any substitute ( he did not like any of the others on offer). There was no apology for there being lack of food only the fact that they had been busy. We may return but not soon.

The menu had lots to offer, I like to try something different and not the typical normal menu. The starter was done to perfection, pork belly and crunchy crackling with it check and black pudding. Delicious. The rest of the meal was also delicious and food fresh. John our waiter was very attentive and knew everything about the food and wine and conversed with us. A lovely evening. Will definitly be back.

Parking is plenty and is a one way system, so don't try to get to the front out of laziness or you could get stuck during busier times and end up having to go back out and round into the main dual carriage way and roundabout if there is too much traffic. The parking is free and it is a gravel car park . As you enter there is a sign to wait to be seated, but don't wait if there are plenty of seats, as you'll be there forever. I think the sign should be put away during quiet times and brought out in busier times. Once seated it's easy to order, choose what you want from the menu and go to the counter (remember what your table number is). Massive cake/sweet selection at the till area so I suggest having a look there as well for sure! At first glance £4(something) for a Melba is a bit much but then when you see the size of it, it's fair. Delicious too! They have take away boxes as well, yum! The last time I went I tried the hot beef bap and it was really good, no chewy, gristle or fatty bits in the meat at all. Spot on. Time before was the cheese pie which I absolutely loved (my lactose intolerant body however rejected it, but was still worth it and I'll do it again NGL). The majority of the staff are lovely, I've never felt anyone has been rude (even when they seemed to be having a crappy and busy day). Have been a few times now and definitely will go again. Edit: it's also (well behaved) dog friendly.

I last reviewed this place in 2019 where my main issue was poor service and would you believe it things haven't changed. Service today was non existent. We were seated for over 10 minutes .... Not even a greeting. Front of house totally disorganised. It's a wonder the floor covering wasn't worn out because of the too-ing and fro-ing which never seemed to produce anything. This service is the worst I've experienced anywhere.. Cone on.... Get a grip !

A hidden gem of a pub. We were recommended by a friend to seek out this place just off the main road between the Eden Arms Roundabout and Newton Aycliffe. Good friendly staff. Food was lovely .Little Jill had the Pie of the day, Chicken and Ham, I had the Gammon. Both were really lovely. The only gripe i had was the overflowing wall mounted cigarette bin at the main door it was unsightly and off putting to us non smokers. Maybe move it or empty it more often. Only a little gripe and will not put us off returning.
