Food was lovely, although it was only the set buffet menu served on a Sunday. We were a family of 2 adults, 4 children (2x14, 1x 10 and 1 x 7) and only the 7 year old was charged at a child’s price. I don’t believe at 10 years old, you should be charged an adults price. Understandably for the 14 YO (at a push). As tasty as the food was, we sadly won’t return. (We were the only people in there).

We were on a river cruise holiday and went on Saturday evening, not for the first time and throughly enjoyed it again. We had set menu A and it was good, the only thing we not sure about was the dry ribs on the mixed starter, we prefer the sticky ones. Service was great and we had a lovely time and we will be back next time when we are in Abingdon. Don’t understand some of the poor reviews as the restaurant is good.

I cannot understand some of the reviews for this little Chinese/Thai restaurant in Abingdon. The food is delicious, beautifully presented, excellent quality, flair and piping hot. Staff greet you with a smile and are so attentive to your needs. Capital spare ribs and mustard chicken to die for. We always have the ‘all you can eat menu’. We have ordered takeaway food and the quality is exactly the same as sitting in the restaurant. Abingdon are lucky to have this gem of a restaurant.

We did not feel welcome from the start. We felt rushed to make our order and felt uncomfortable for asking for more drinks. Food was poor, came out warm not hot. The dumplings were not appetising at all and made me loose my appetite for the rest of my meal. After a terrible experience we just could not get out quick enough.

Was greeted rudely by staff. Asked for our drinks order and I said we would start with water and before we could look more at the menu the alcohol list/wine glasses were taken away… Felt rushed to order our food and when we said we weren’t ready for the second time waitress shook her head as walking away! I found this quite funny as she then went on her phone… not the best image… Once we had finished our mains the most bizarre part of the evening was that our table cloth was removed making us remove our glasses and belongings from the table?!?! Food came fast, I enjoyed my main of chicken chow mein and egg fried rice…but the won ton soup was spicy. After a quick look and a taste test from my partner we quickly realised it was the amount of black pepper! I didn’t finish it. I felt like a burden to the staff and found their lack of interest in their job confusing! I saw multiple staff members sitting at what I started calling the ‘phone table’ and another waitress plugging their phone in to a plug socket next to an empty table! As we left we began feeling nauseous and got tummy aches! Hoping that’s all that happens… I would get take-aways occasionally from here and forgot why I never went in…remembered very quickly!

Staying in Abingdon for the Jubilee Celebrations and visited this restaurant Did not enjoy our meal at all. All you can eat buffet brought to us at the table. Tiny portions and having to ask for more tiny portions of very average food. With a long wait for each tiny portion. We gave up in the end which is what I think they want you to do, we were basically ripped off Would not recommend.

I am absolutely disgusted with the quality of this food! On the 15/11/21 I paid the sum of £41.30 for a takeaway. This takeaway I bought for my family while we celebrated at home my mother’s husband’s birthday. On feeling the containers I asked my mum and my brother to hold them and tell me if this food was hot. They agreed with me that this was of unacceptable quality. I rang back and explained that this food was Luke warm! His reaction was not good enough, he challenged my integrity. I asked this person, are you calling me a liar? He said nothing. My mother has been buying food from them for a long time apparently, I know this because this Abingdon central restaurant/takeaway recognises this address by the phone number connected to my mum’s house. I will also add that because of the lack of care for their regular customer’s, I most certainly will never buy from there, and they will always not. This has ruined a small family get together to celebrate my mum’s husband’s birthday who also suffers from chronic MS. My advice is avoid this awful place at all cost if you require a properly cooked meal. Avoid this business who has no respect for customers!, especially customers that have spent a lot of money with them over the years who, without a shadow of doubt should be trusted. As I have mentioned, I am thoroughly disgusted, and they will never see another penny from me invested into their business when I visit my mum next time.

It absolutely pains me to write this as we’ve eaten here plenty of times in the past and enjoyed it. We had really been looking forward to returning post lockdown but now really wish we hadn’t. Frankly it’s no surprise that cases are up in the area with business behaving like this. - Social distancing... what social distancing?! We were rammed in like sardines with people at adjacent tables closer to us than we were to each other. It was ridiculous! Closer to 20cm than 2m. - Masks. Glad they kept the waitresses’ chin warm but they generally work a bit better if they’re not pulled down below the nose and mouth. Really enjoyed a nice face full of a strangers exhalations whilst she was leaning over us in a cramped restaurant to put plates on the table. - Gloves. Pretty pointless if you wear the same pair for multiple hours without changing them or washing. Just don’t bother wearing them and actually wash your hands! - Tableware. Our table was laid for four when we arrived. The extra things weren’t removed for the first half hour we were there so we moved them to the side. When they were removed the glasses went straight back on the shelf and chopsticks straight back with the others ready to be put on someone’s else’s table. We’re really careful about keeping hands clean etc but hardly ideal at the moment. - They’d accepted a booking for a table of 15 people cramped shoulder to shoulder around a table too small. Last I checked that’s not currently legal. I mean some responsibility needs to sit with the customers there but equally they should’ve refused the booking! Oh, but it’s okay because there was a laminated sign up at the door saying “keep 2m apart” and one bottle of hand san by the door so nothing to worry about! As for the rest of the meal:- We had to ask 3 times for some water. - Service was all over the place. We were either bugged every 30 seconds or ignored for half an hour. - The vegetables arrived with our crispy duck containing an extra treat, namely pieces of blue kitchen towel. This was replaced with the waitress assuring us “don’t worry, I’ve checked this one’s ok”. You’ve guessed it, more blue kitchen towel! I wonder if it was actually a fresh plate or did they just fail to pick it all out in the kitchen... anyway, third time lucky! Obviously no apology though. - No desert available as the freezer was broken. On the plus side, it was cheap thanks to eat out to help out, and most of the food was really tasty. On the downside I spent most of the meal on edge and was desperate to leave, and then spent most of today sat on the loo. I’ll give it another shot at some point when this has all calmed down, but it really wasn’t good enough. Their lip service to COVID restrictions was really unimpressive, and I wish I had just followed my first instincts to turn around and leave when we first walked in and saw how busy it was.

We haven’t been able to visit since late last year, and the long wait didn’t disappoint. Delicious food as always, lovely (albeit busy) atmosphere. I believe the menu may have been slightly reduced however all our usuals were able for us to order, the Thai ribs and chilli chicken wings are a firm favourite. We were very happy to see the Parasol participating in “Dine out to help out”. Many thanks to the hardworking staff for our thoroughly enjoyable evening out.

The worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. Walked in, wasn't sure what we wanted so ordered two beers and my friend ordered a soup. Asked for our order 3 times in under 5 minutes, very pressured and uncomfortable. The menu didn't appeal so we didn't want to order anything else. Was told by the manager that this was and I quote, "not good enough" and we need to leave.I offered to pay for the beers. The soup was denied and we were rushed out the door. Then told we were "the worst customers ever."Absolutely appalling treatment. Never experienced anything like this in my life. The restaurant also smelt very weird, like rotten fish and damp.Do yourself a favour and avoid.

Attended a couple of weeks ago, and found we were not the only ones there, which was great!. Ordered the lunch time specials 2 courses for £7.50....bargain! There were only two spring rolls and a about 4 strands of lettuce and carrot. The main meal was sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice...with lots and lots of peppers and onions and only 4 little chicken balls. The toilets were a disgrace! The floor hadn’t been cleaned in ages, the toilet was full of brown water and the dryer didn’t work, and there was only a little pot of hand wash. This area needs looking at especially as the kitchen is next door. The owner spent most of the time on his phone, and ignored another couple that arrived for nearly 10 mins until we “coughed” to indicate for him to look up to notice. This place has really gone down hill!

Me and my boyfriend went for a quick meal a week ago. We where the only ones in there, and was greeted by a very unhappy mature women. She very rudely told us what was available and then took our orders. There was staff seated at the table near the bar who clearly didnt care of the noise or way they where behaving infront of their only guests. The food arrived and was plain, hardly any flovour and just looked like it had been thrown on the plate. To end the experience my partner was brought the card machine and the lady watched his hand as he entered his pin, never looking away or saying thank you. All in all, will not be going back. Well positioned in the town close to the river for us boaters. Advised to try the all you can eat menu. Started well with reasonable hot and sour soup but the sesame prawn toast was precooked and soggy as was the chicken satay but the deep fried squid was fresh and crispy. Next came the best bit with crispy duck and pancakes not so the Thai chicken in lettuce as boring. Tom Yum was so so but this is not a Thai restaurant. The main courses were very disappointing prawn and beef in black Bean sauce was so salty, crispy shredded beef in chilli was rock hard and chewy Pad Thai was ok and chicken with ginger and spring onions was edible. The menu is nothing like their main with no desert and limited choice. If you want a whole meal of crispy duck and pancakes then go for it otherwise leave well alone as we will not be returning.

I spoke to the waitress whom seemed to be the only one who spoke full English about our meal and her answer was I should of said something sooner I would of if the staff spoke full English. to top it off no proper sorry was given. Our party of 7 adults visited on a Wednesday evening & we all opted for the Eat As Much As You Like buffet. The waitress informed us we could order a selection of starters & once eaten, we could order more dishes before moving on to the soup/aromatic duck course. They will charge for uneaten dishes to avoid people over-ordering & unnecessary wastage but are more than happy to bring you more dishes, once you have eaten the first round. Everything we ordered was cooked nicely, well presented & piping hot. There was plenty of shredded duck meat & we were offered more starters/pancakes & even duck, but we didn’t need it. On to the main course, plenty of chicken, beef, prawn, & vegetarian dishes to choose from, as well as various rices & noodles. We were in the restaurant over 2 hours & never felt pressured to eat up & leave at any point. The waiting staff were attentive, helpful & eager to replenish any dishes & drinks. Clean, tidy restaurant, background music not overpowering, complimentary chocolate mints & a sweetie as we left, rounded off a perfectly enjoyable evening. Would highly recommend.

The buffet food was OK but some chicken dishes were too salty, the rice was too sticky and I think they used too much MSG. The coffee at the end was only luke-warm - tho they did offer a refill. If your thinking of going after 10pm ?DONT!!!!!!! The staff just want you out so the can close. They were extremely rude and unwelcoming. The food was nice but spoiled by the atmosphere. I'd like to say that the Indian waitress isn't just rude and unfriendly after 10 , I've been at 6 and she's the same . Get a job you like Don't advertise your open until 11 if you don't want customers at these times! Shut at 10 and people will go to restaurants wanting the custom! Maybe a lick of paint in the toilets may be an idea. Truckers cafe big comes to mind.

"Eat as much as you like banquet" is great value, you can do exactly that, eat as much as you like! We have always found the owner to be extremely friendly, without being intrusive. We have found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. I would have no reservations in recommending the Parasol to anyone looking for good value, good quality, very tasty Chinese or Thai food.

A return visit with a friend who lives in Abingdon. We chose the Thai banquet for three of us and it was very good - lovely fresh flavours with plenty of variety and all freshly cooked, plus proper jasmine tea made with tea leaves. It was all delightful, and showed that Parasol is consistently good, totally different to the Beijing Diner in Wallingford which we visited a few weeks ago, and definitely not recommended. We will certainly return to Parasol again.

Five of us sat to eat and enjoyed the meals we were presented with. We were able to order great variety and try and share around the table in all courses. If it had not been for the one rather spiky Asian waitress this would have scored 5/5.

We went down as a trio to the restaraunt after Work and had no problem getting a table (could of been a sign!) We opted for the Buffet as there are two options, The food was ok and not a decent portion, you are also told if you dont eat up your portion that you have chosen you will have to pay for everything on la carte menu, this was where the penny pinching started! The owner is constantly present and over bearing, The Beer is expensive and to top it all off we were slammed a 10 % charge to our bill. I found this irregular as i chose when to tip good service not the greedy owner, i challenged this and was met with excuses and insults as he picked up i wasnt local! Unless you are full of Money and like to pay over inflated prices it should be fine for you, there are better places to eat in lovely Abingdon.Greedy Rude Owner!! AVOID!!!!!!

Went with a big family group. Service was really quick and couldn't do enough for us. Found that to be the same when visited as a couple too. Food tastes good, and lovely and hot. Atmosphere is nice in the restaurant. Would only say tables a bit too close together for my liking. Do an excellent takeaway service too.

we came here for a friends birthday and we dont often get to go out as we are all mums of young children, and the service was great. they were very patient as we took our time and even though we were the last ones left they never made us feel uncomfortable. when the waiter found out we were celebrating a birthday he even offered us a couple of amazing drinks. and to top it all the food was excellent. weve been here a year and honestly this was the best chinese food since london. well definitely go back!

Have ordered a few times and really enjoyed the food. The duck was particularly good, although not enough spring onions/cucumber provided.

My wife & I went for a romantic meal last night having eaten here on many occasions. We sat down at 8pm and was instantly aware of the owner manager lunging from table to table and talking at the top of his voice. He eventually made it to ours and then knelt down putting his elbows between my wife and I. He explained he had had a bad journey from London so got in and drank a bottle of wine before opening. After 10 minutes of meaningless conversation my wife asked if he would leave us alone as we had a lot to catch up on. He then just bounced to another table and pulled a chair up and joined that poor couple. You can't act like this in a small town like Abingdon and hope to keep customers.

Phone ordered a take away over an hour before we wanted it. Went to collect at allocated time and when we were assured it would be ready. No food ready. Appeared 20 minutes later. On a day when timing was of the essence (quarter finals of rugby world cup), this I thought was pretty poor. Will not be using them again.

I visited there a couple of Saturday's ago, to have the lunch menu special. The starter was spring rolls ..usually three, now two with a salad...but the salad consisted of three strands of lettuce and three strands of carrot.... The main course was sweet and sour chicken, the portion was smaller with hardly any chicken in it, the batter was very crispy and had so many onions, peppers and pineapple... Seems like they reduce the chicken and replaced with peppers and onion. Although the egg fried rice was as usual great, and thee portion too!. There was only three tables being used, yet they seemed keen to get you out of the door, on two occasions they were rude and didn't understand what we were asking when the sign on the door said closed, making people turn away from the door. They also charge more for noodles on the lunch time menu, yet they do not mention this. We complained to the waitress about the food, only to be told they would tell the kitchen, no recompense for our disappointment of the meals. This continued when we asked for a pudding to be told, they have now closed. This was closely followed by tidying up our table when one member was still eating/drinking. They need to sort this out otherwise this place will get worse! Certainly won't be visiting again, and I will be keen to tell others to do the same. Seems like this place will only be nice to those, spending a lot in the restaurant, and seem to treat those opting for a cheaper meal with rudeness....seems to say it all from other comments read!

We have always enjoyed going to the Parasol to eat, as the quality of the food and service have previously been very good, however, today opinions have changed.Firstly, we gave our order, and had to repeat ourselves at least twice which did not bode well, then we had To ask for the front door to be closed, as the restaurant was freezing cold, despite it being sunny outside. The starters arrived, and they appear to be getting smaller in portion size, previously spring rolls came as a minimum portion size of three rolls, today there were only two. We did ask for a quarter of aromatic crispy duck as an extra, which was good and plentiful. The main courses ordered were sweet and sour chicken, and chicken in black bean sauce. The sweet and sour was overcooked and tough to chew on, whereas the other chicken dish was of a more slimey consistency. Just not good enough, for a restaurant that previously had a reputation as the best Chinese restaurant in town. The meal was supposed to be a treat, but ended up in bitter disappointment, and to top it off, we decided to have pineapple fritters as a sweet treat, only to be told that these we unavailable now, as the restaurant was closed (just after 2pm) and the chef had gone home. This place has "gone downhill", and regretfully we won't be going back in the near or long term future. Two words describe this visitBitterly Disappointed

We have been very happy with delivered food from The Parasol over recent years. Tonight though - soggy prawn crackers and chips, mushed dishes, and mixed vegetable foo yung was supplied instead of plain omelette which was ordered. Regrettably poor and hope previous standards return.

Went to this restaurant at 6.30pm tonight on my own as on business in Abingdon and fancied a Chinese meal. Met at the door by a smiling waitress, however as soon as I asked for a table for one the smile disappeared and she said restaurant was full. It was in no way full in fact it was 70% empty I pointed this out to be told all tables reserved. I asked if I was being declined a table because I was a single diner and she said yes. In 25 yrs of business travel never had this before quite disgusting and imagine how u would feel as a widow or widower, shame on you Parasol. Avoid this place if a lone diner.

There's an all you can eat option which is clearly very popular. However we went for one of the set meals and it was most enjoyable and still very well priced. One dish which was Thai in style was chicken in coconut milk and was very bland and I mentioned that we were having a lovely meal but that one dish was very disappointing and they immediately changed it for something else which was great , a sizzling beef dish. Although they have quite a bit of Thai on the menu I suspect their more Chinese/ Cantonese dishes are what they do best. Finally I left my rather expensive camera at the end of evening and it was there ready to collect the flowing day for which I wasn't grateful. So in short good food at reasonable prices and with excellent friendly service.

The restaurant is centrally located in Abingdon and close to nice pubs if you want to go for a pre-dinner drink. 11 of us went to the restaurant on a busy Saturday night and were given a round table. Whilst we were a bit cosy, the table really helped us all be able chat.We decided to order 3 set menus (they have a min order quantity) to give us a good range of food across three courses. When the first course arrived, it did seem a little small but the next two courses were bigger and we found we had the perfect amount of food. The food was lovely..everyone was happy that there were several things in each course they could eat. The service was great - drinks were brought quickly, water glasses refilled, food came quickly, forks were happily offered and given for those of us that weren't good at using chopsticks and when we realised that only special fried rice was in the set menu - they kindly brought a plain rice.I will definitely eat here again :)

I have eaten at the Parasol a number of times over the years. The staff have always been impeccably helpful and friendly. On this occasion we came for takeaways. We rang our orders through and indicated the time we hoped to arrive to pick up the meals in my car. When I arrived at the stated time our orders were freshly out of the kitchen and good to go. In spite of a ten minutes drive to get back home again everything was still in good order when we got home. The fact that there were no leftovers tells it own story. All of us were pleased with what we got and will definitely take this route again.

Been to the Parasol three times now, and have never been able to fault anything. We particularly like the food here, which tastes very natural and leaves the mouth feeling clean, not claggy as after some Chinese food. We have always found the staff to be friendly and efficient. I'm sure we will return again with our friend who lives in Abingdon.

We'd heard good things about the Parasol so had high expectations. However we were somewhat disappointed. The staff were very friendly and we opted for the buffet menu. We ordered a small selection of starters which came quickly and were very tasty. However when we ordered a few more we were kept waiting for ages. We ordered the crispy duck and pancakes which were good. We then ordered a selection of mains. Again we waited ages. The restaurant was very busy with takeaway orders. The mains were disappointing - just not very appetising. I don't think we will return.

We went there on a busy Friday night and were pleased with the warm and friendly service. We opted for one of the fixed menus and were not disappointed. The food was fresh and well cooked, the vegetable dish being particularly good. However, the one thing that if anything spoilt it for us was the constant take away traffic going past our table. Okay the food must be popular to demand such traffic, but please find some other way of dealing with this side of the business. We will be going back, but will ask for a table away from the take away route.
