Papa's Taste in Taunton Deane

THE WORST REVIEW YOU MAY READ -please read before booking this establishment. Reserved a table for Saturday 12 April for a dinner with me and my husband. We arrived slightly early but said we didn’t mind waiting until a table was available. The place was empty…. Was greeted by one of the employees who immediately started shouting and raising his voice at me and my partner-as we were early. We said we understood and are happy to come back in 10 minutes. He sat us down slammed down our menus still insisting we have 30 mins to eat, which didn’t make sense when I did the maths and questioned him on this. We then said ok, we can see we are early and will come back in 10 minutes he says we CANNOT LEAVE THE RESTAURANT, this is because he’s changed the booking to early (well it was empty so why is this a problem) plus we are entitled to leave the establishment if we would like. If it was about the reservation he could change this no bother?? But tell us we have to stay and have no choice. My partner chirped in also and challenged him on this. He then kept shouting walking off going mad. Me and partner said we are going to call BARE GRILLS which we booked for 15 minutes after. Wow that was the best place ever, service and food. Didn’t even get to eat anything as we upped and left. Cant go to a restaurant as lovely as pie and be treated like this. Funnily enough, while there he was the exact same to another couple who were also in there. As whilst we were deciding on where to go He goes over to another table and starts challenging them they’ve got 15 minutes and they say they’ve booked and do not the attitude awful Place should be closed down first impressions count Don’t go here I would not give them my money ever!!!

Always the best food, has never been anything but delicious. Don’t think twice about ordering from here if you love authentic Greek food😊

Arrived 10 minutes early, to be greeted by a young male waiter whom seemed totally disinterested in us as customers, showed us to the most a table near the door ( just for info in full view of the very regular Deliveroo/Just Eat Drivers) Informed by waiter we had 1 hr 30 minutes to eat and vacate. Tool what seemed like forever to place an order with again the young male waiter whom seemed to be in a permanent sulk. No advice given regarding wine list etc, so we went for the house . Please avoid the house red, it looks like a glass of rusty water with the equivalent amount of taste. Was informed that the ordered starters , they have run out of ( this is 19.10) so we went for an alternative. This arrived and was eaten by 19.20. We then waited until 20.05 for our main course to arrive ( not too difficult to make as 1 was a salad, and one was a chicken gyros Kebab) Honestly i think i would have been better paying after the starter and leaving , this turned out to be the most expensive salad and kebab ever ever purchased We paid and left the restaurant at 20.25 just in case we were forceably evicted at 20.30 Defiantly will not be returning here # What i would say is that if you were to order through one of the ap's then you would get a lot better service as this seems to be the main focus

Fantastic food. Lovely atmosphere. We had a wonderful evening. We love Greek food and we weren't disappointed. Many thanks to all the staff for a great evening !

The best moussaka of my life!!!

Popped in on a Tuesday night, only a few tables occuppied, though a constant stream of collections and deliveries went out during the evening. This was my first visit to Papas Taste, a couple of our number had eaten here before. We were met with a friendly welcome, which continued throughout the night. My starter of spinach pie and main of Greek pork souvlaki plate were both tasty and enjoyable and washed down with a couple of Mythos beers, memories of Kos, as long as I didn't look out of the window!! All In all we had a pleasurable evening's dining and at a reasonable cost.

We like greek food and we were not disappointed here. This restaurant is a fantastic option to eat autenthic greek food. The dish was well cooked, contained large portions at an appropriate price. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We'll be back when in Taunton next time :)

Didn’t get to try the food as left before ordering. Very unwelcoming and actually rude waiter who couldn’t be bothered. No wonder the restaurant was empty.

Truly one of my favourite restaurants to go to. The staff are always incredibly friendly and the food is incredibly authentic. Always reminds me of my holiday to Athens, cannot recommend enough!

Only Letuce in salad not tomatoe or cucumber

Food was cold. The delivery driver arrived and said he had been forgotten about therefore the delivery was late. Chips were freezing & food was not very appetising. Which is a shame as we usually love food from Papas taste.

food was good as usual but a bit cold. the delivery time changed several times so took nearly an hour longer to be delivered.

Only two other people in the restaurant, no music, cold, lacking in atmosphere. Food was basic. Halloumi starter was 4 bits of griddled halloumi with lettuce and tomato. Main course was lamb kebab sitting in oil soaked pitta with dry chips and the obligatory lettuce and tomato that came with everything. Lamb was tender but portions are huge. Not a lot on the menu for vegetarians. Good place to go if you just want to fill up.

Awful.... Garlic bread had no garlic taste.. Hardly any meat in the Gyros,all pitta,no meat... Handful of chips,instead of a portion.... Definitely not worth the money paid....

Just ordered a takeaway... Absolutely awful.. No meat in the Gyros.. Garlic bread had no garlic at all.... Was a dry as an old chip,even though we ordered Mayo... Total waste of money.. All dough,and no meat....

Delicious meats, definitely recommend the gyros If you're confused ny the pastas in the dessert menu, its a delicious mousse cake, again recommended. Burger smelt incredible too.

My son and I went in on a Saturday night for food. Admittedly it was 9pm still 1 hour before closing. The waiter abruptly came up to us ranting about how they close at 10, close at 10. To which I reply we only wanted something light. To which he said light food is takeaway only. We live half hour away so wasn't going to take food home as would be ruined before we ate. It was like they really didn't want to serve us. Will not be in a hurry to visit!!

We dined at papas taste last night. The food was fantastic albeit the portions weren't huge it was clearly very high quality and authentic Greek food. However the service we received was a little bit strange. It was as if we had done something wrong (although not sure what) because when we asked questions about the menu, the waitor just seemed to be really annoyed with us. We had missed a notice that one item as only available for lunch and before we even requested that item we were told a stern 'no' with no immediate explanation that this was a lunch item. It was just a bit weird, like I said we just felt like we had done something wrong. For that reason, we are bit put off from dining in, but would definitely order takeaway as the food was delicious.

Frequently order the same thing from here but unfortunately the time my order is wrong and items forgotten so I couldn’t eat it. They do nothing about it at all, won’t be returning again

Expensive kebab, tasteless dry chicken, unfriendly atmosphere, freezing cold was warmer outside than in restaurant. Don’t like writing poor reviews as appreciate folks are trying to make a living but do wonder how places like this can keep open,

Great meal only thing I would say was the lack of chips and online was expecting Tzatziki in our Skepastis but really you get mayo, bit disappointing.

Nice food but not great value for money

First experience at PT's, excellent Greek salad and the chicken gyros wrap was generous and full of flavour. Polite staff and bang on time for collection. Prob favourite discovery in Taunton recently. Will be back!

We had a lovely meal here and the atmosphere was buzzy but not over so . Our daughter really enjoyed her meal and she is very fussy. We enjoyed it so much that husband and I popped back for a quick lunch the next day. Their hummus and feta cheese are so delicious I feel I could never eat the supermarket offerings again! We also had a lot of advice and help in choosing from the menu. If we are ever in Taunton again, this would be our first choice

First time here for a date night. Got there early for our booked table and still got sat! Service with a smile and humour! Food was fast and tasted amazing! I've seen some reviews complaining about service and food for this place, all I can say is I saw NONE of that! Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

We had a really positive experience having lunch here on a rainy day in Taunton. The man serving was calm and friendly, making the effort to chat with our children and make them laugh. The food was delicious - we have been looking for authentic Greek food, and this was it. The lamb souvlaki was amazing, and the chips and pitta tasted very authentic. Portion size was also excellent, especially for the children’s (and it was great these were Greek too, not just nuggets and chips). The decor was lovely. We will most definitely be back.

Turned up late with 1/3 of the food missing. Tried to call papas taste but no answer. No option to get a refund for the food I was missing.

placed order and had confirmation email at 17:59, food arrived at 20:11 cold. could tell the food had been sat in the restaurant for a long time as the packaging was damp. have submitted a refund request. hard to show food is cold through a picture

It was nice but I wouldn’t rave about it or have it again. The chicken didn’t have much flavour and the chips were soft. Plus it was around 30mins late.

On a summers day evening, my friends and I decided to visit this Greek restaurant. The reviews looked promising and we were working in the vicinity all week. Thursday evening it was then and at 7pm three of us entered this highly rated restaurant. The waiter asked had we booked ahead? There were only one couple eating at that present moment. We informed him it was spontaneous, so he sat us in the middle of the restaurant on a table for six. It was perfectly lit, the tables and chairs were all laid and presented like a local library or school classroom. No Greek or Mediterranean music played in the background and there was just the one waiter. The decor was not like a Taverna, more Ikea if anything especially the lampshades. Not long after we were given menus, another group were seated behind us. We were informed we had one hour and forty five minutes only. This was ample time as we ordered just the main dish opting for no starter or desserts. My friend and I ordered the moussaka whilst another preferred the 350gr Gyros, tomatoes, onions, tzatziki and chips. We were told the mains would be thirty minutes so had three bottles of Mythos whilst waiting. The traditional Greek lager was the highlight of the meal. The moussaka unfortunately was bland in taste and any flavour or substance. The béchamel sauce was overwhelming. The layers lacked eggplant and lamb mincemeat in this iconic traditional Greek delight. The Gyros was also undercooked and lacked flavour and taste. We were all bitterly disappointed and vowed never to return. More diners arrived as we were trying our hardest not to cry over our meals. The lager was the highlight and the waiter was attentive and polite. We lied through gritted teeth when asked “was everything alright?” The bill arrived, we paid a begrudging surcharge and promptly left. To highlight then, an overall underwhelming evening.

The pod from Papas taste is absolutely amazing but sadly 'Just (dont) Eat' are incapable of delivering it and yet again the restaurant and myself have put our faith in just eat for nothing, nada, no food! Complaint again raised with Just Eat now to wait a week fir a refund! Porridge it is then!

Love this place, not just because it's our nearest Greece outside of actual Greece. The people are lovely and the food is amazing. So much so I ordered a whole bunch of it for my 50th birthday party which went down a treat 🥳

Amazing food and timely delivery

Popped in for lunch today. Good menu selection, nice decor and friendly staff. Food was very good and enjoyable. Plan to go in one evening next time when it’s likely to be much busier.

Family of 8 came here at a very short notice booking. It was a really nice atmosphere, not too busy. We went at 7pm on a Saturday night. Good choice on the menu, I went for the seafood menu, with king prawns with shells on. I can highly recommend it. The price came to £150 for 8 of us. Which I think is very fair. Would definitely go there again.

Really disappointed, £30 for pitta bread , chips and sauce, literally no pork wat so ever, 1 slither of pork,

The prices are so high but the taste just isn’t what it used to be, the chips weren’t seasoned and the skepasti wasn’t great and seamed sloppily put together. It was alright but not as good as it used to be. Don’t think I’ll be running back here especially for the price.

We tried this restaurant last night for the first time. It is wonderfully decorated, has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were so welcoming and cheery. The food was absolutely fantastic! We took dessert to-go as we were so full, and that was just as good as the mains we tried at the restaurant. Have already raved about this place to family and friends and will definitely be back. Only ever order the Chicken Gyros from here because it’s that good…will definitely try more of the menu in time. If the Gyros is anything to go by, I’m sure it will be delicious. Favourite takeaway by far! Always on time, if not early and always come warm :)

We were there for the first time and definitely not the last one. Atmosphere is absolutely brilliant and staff is very friendly and welcoming. Food is absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes Greek food in great place to be in.

Fantastic meal with excellent personal friendly service! Lauren couldn’t do enough for us, and made us feel very welcome. The food was freshly made - good choice and decent portions (with great recommendations). The perfect way to celebrate a birthday! The ouzo also went down very well! We will definitely return!
